We went for date night on Saturday. Had this place on my list for awhile. The pork soup dumplings are every bit as delicious as previously posted. We'd do a double order again in a heartbeat. Pork juicy and tender, dumplings toothsome with an explosion of all flavored soup. Also for the salt and pepper shrimp that the husband loved, at least 13 big shrimp that were cooked perfectly an order of fried rice, which was on the verge of salty and I do love salt. It was better the next day, after taking it home I ate it all. We tried the beef patties, husband hated them, I thought it was ok. If you want a Chinese hamburger or are feeding kids this is for you. Also 3 egg rolls, which were crispy and flavorful and didn't have the sulfur cabbage flavor I hate in these rolls. Not as good as Tottie's Asian Fusion, but this would be my #2 best egg rolls in Phoenix. One order soup dumplings, one fried rice, one salt and pepper shrimp, 3 beef patties, 3 egg rolls and 2 waters was about $65 before tip, so a little pricey for a date night, but you'll have food left over. I really enjoyed eating at their other location so I had to try their new location near ASU. The menu is identical and the food tasted very similar. This is newer location so it's cleaner, has nicer booths, and has more staff working. There were lots of students eating here as well, so be prepared to wait during peak hours. Their soup dumplings came out nice and hot. It oozes juice as you bite into it. The flavor was spot on and had plenty to share (10 per order). Their chive and egg pockets were one of my favorites. When I had first decided to go into this place I was super excited to try the food since the reviews were all great but sadly we were taken by surprise when we had found hair on not only one of the dishes we order but BOTH! It was literally backed into the chicken and we had already started eating the noodles at the we noticed the hair in it... we let the server know about the first hair we found and then found the other one and he asked if we didn't want to eat the food because we didn't like it but it was just that we found yet another hair. At least we didn't have to pay for it. I was extremely disappointed with my experience at this place. The lack of cleanliness and attention to detail is unacceptable. The Szechwan spicy chicken was bright orange and greasy. The house stirred fried noodles are not made with homemade noodles, again, store bought. Chou's Kitchen First time here have been wanting to try this for a while. Started off with the Pork Xiao Long Bao, Pork Pot Stickers, Braised Ribs, Yangzhou Fried Rice and Toothpick Lamb. The Xiao Long Bao were good with the soup hot but not too hot, average to small in size. The Pork Pot Stickers were very doughy and expected to be more pan friend but was soggy, would not recommend. The Braised Ribs were very good and nice to eat with white rice because of the sauce on the ribs. The Yangzhou Fried Rice was pretty good with alot of items mixed in like eggs, shrimp, a crispy chicken and veggies. Probably one of the better dishes was the Toothpick Lamb which had a nice rub on the lamb and was interesting to share and eat. Overall, pretty good and a little on the expensive side. Don't know if I would call the restaurant a little hole in the wall or not. Will probably come back again to try other dishes. read more

Was craving some Chinese food on this particular night. Pretty good location and good-size parking lot outside, no issues there. Insides is pretty big and clean. We came around 8:30 p.m., still some people inside but We were seated pretty quickly and lots of open tables on a Friday night. They open to around 10 I believe. Pretty good variety of choices and dishes on the menu. Decided to get the spicy fish in the hot pot, bean curd / pork /tofu dish with spicy added, And the Xiao long bao. Good amount of food for two people. Definitely had some leftover. For the spicy fish dish, it was better than I expected. Spiciness is exactly where I like it. Lots of fish in the dish. They did not skip out on quantity. Within the dish there is also cabbage and bean sprout at the bottom. The spiciness may numb some people's tongue, but it was fine for me. With regards to the bean curd / tofu/pork dish, having them make it spicy is way better in my opinion, even though I never had it without it being spicy here. They could have put more pork in the dish, but what they did have was okay. Taste-wise, it's okay, but I'm more used to a different type of flavor that I was hoping to get. With regards to the Xiao long bao, the skin covering was a little bit more thicker than what I'm used to. The meat on the inside was actually pretty good and the flavor was decent as well. There is a little bit of juice and soup inside the dumpling, but not a whole lot if you're used to having a lot. Temperature wise it was warm, but it got cold pretty fast if you don't eat it fast. Comes with the side of the dipping sauce which has more vinegar then when I'm used to. Nonetheless, The Dumpling plus the sauce was good together. They apparently have another restaurant in Chandler which is supposed to be better, according to someone that ate here before. But pretty good in my opinion for my first time here. Server was nice and quick and attentive. One of the better Chinese restaurant that I have been to over in Phoenix. Probably will check out the one in Chandler next time to compare. On the way to the car though, I had mentioned I had wanted to try the Beef Pies at Chou's so here we are! I've been to their first location and had an okay experience and much similar, I had an okay experience here as well. I will say that I love how this place has more seating. Their first location is much too small. So here at Chou's, we had gotten the Beef Pies, Spicy Fish Fillet, and the Toothpick Lamb. Beef Pie, $6 for 3: Delicious, juicy, and full of flavor. I would come back and order these again. The outside is like a green onion pancake batter, sans the onions, the the inside absolutely exploded with beefy juices [don't be dirty]. It was hot and flavorful! Spicy Fish Fillet, $10.98: That tongue-numbing quote applies. I don't like how Szechuan style cooking numbs the tongue. It's not spicy and it just numbs the tongue for no reason at all. I want to attribute it to the pickled vegetables too but I don't really know that for a fact. Regardless, I didn't enjoy this this. The fish was battered lightly and nicely and the pickled peppers on top gave it a sour bite. They were incredibly light on the dry Szechauan peppers. The flavor was on the imbalance side, being way more sour than spicy. Toothpick Lamb, $14.98: We were going to this one other restaurant, GTB, that makes this dish AMAZING but they were closed for the holiday so we went somewhere else but it was still on my mind. So when I saw it on the menu, I got it. It was decent but I think I prefer the other place for this dish. The lamb was a bit tough and definitely gamey. Jalapeño slices gave it a nice heat and they were quite heavy-handed on the fennel seeds. All in all, if I ever crave XLB or a beef pie, I'll stop by! The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the food always comes out hot. I've been hearing about Chou's Kitchen and always wanted to try this place. We were able to try this place out on a Saturday night. It's basically an unassuming Chinese Restaurant. Not fancy at all. It's more of a feed you and leave you type of place. Typical true Asian type of restaurant. The servers usually help you find a place to sit and we had a table of seven with six chairs. I had to pull in an extra chair on the side to fit our party. Not a big deal. Typical. Just had an idea about these type of places. The server set the plates, napkins, and menu on our table and really didn't acknowledge us until our whole table arrived. Once our table arrived then we got our water and tea that we requested. We started out with their dumplings cause I love dumplings. We had the Beef pie, pork & shrimp dumpling, and pot stickers. My daughter loves the beef pies. So it's basically marinated beef in the form of a hamburger encased fried batter. Something like a empanada. My daughter calls it a Chinese hamburger. Hahaha. It was really good. Very moist. Steamy hot inside. Very tasty and really worth it. The pork & shrimp dumplings were pretty good. Couldn't really taste the shrimp but it was a good dumpling. Very fresh. I really like the mixture of green beans and eggplant. Fresh yet tender. It was very good. Loved the small cut potatoes with the sauce at the bottom. As you can tell, I loved this dish. Very good. Everyone else enjoyed their meal too. No complaints here. So this place was not that full when we got there around 5:30 but by the time we left it was packed. Seems like a very popular place. It's a typical Asian owned, Asian run business. Not a lot of atmosphere but just a good amount of tables. Chinese waitresses that takes your order, serves you, fills your cups of water. Not friendly. That's typical Asian type of business. Everything is based in the food. Really good food. Fresh food. Tasty food. It's all about the food. No questions asked. So I really liked this place. Exactly what I expected. Great food. Now if you want the atmosphere and service then I suggest you go to the American Chinese restaurants.
