I've been going to Kurts since the early 80's and can't get enough of it. No other German restaurant has measured up to Kurt's. Everything I've ever had over the past 40 years has been outstanding. I hadn't been to Kurt's since they were located in their old "chateau" building years ago. Upon my return, I found their food better than I even remembered. Everything was exquisite, not to mention quintessentially German. I had jaegerschnitzel with spaetzle. The portion was enough for two people, but it's German food so that's somewhat expected. The schnitzel was very tender and moist. The spaetzle did not disappoint either. The jaegerschnitzel actually comes with potatoes, but I wasn't missing a chance to have spaetzle. The egg bread was fantastic too. I only wish I had enough room for it all. We also had the potato pancakes as a starter which came with the traditional applesauce and sour cream. We finished the experience with apple strudel. It was the perfect end to such decadence. The service was on key as well. We wanted for nothing and the pacing was great. I always like to provide a critical downside so a review doesn't gush, but all I can say is that I'm very eager to return. I was thrilled to see that Kurt's has aged so gracefully. I love this place, as it serves the best German food that I have ever tried. Prior to eating here, I was really on the fence about this European cuisine. German food can be heavy but upon realizing that Atlanta has a dearth of restaurants serving this type of food, I became obsessed with finding some good places. Kurt's was on my list for a long time and I really had meant to go. Funny coincidence, before even finding out about Michelle K.'s Gwinnett UYE, I had scheduled a date with bf and we ended up postponing our trip so that we could try the food in the company of good friends. I ended up going alone that night, as he got caught up with schoolwork. We had a great time and received spectacular service. I got the jumbo pretzel to start off with, as did some others at the table and the appetizer was certainly a hit, with the different mustards/sauces that it was served with. My entree ended up being the wienerschnitzel with spaetzle, as I had been craving spaetzle for some strange reason, since eating some in Helen, GA. Delicious and served as a very moderate-sized portion. Don't let this fool you though, the breaded and fried meat with the stubby dumpling-like noodles will fill you up, especially after having your appetizer. I was literally too full but I was going all out on my Deutsch feast and I asked for a slice of Black Forest Cake, known in German as Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte. The slice was massive and it was pretty good. But I confess, it was slightly frozen, and maybe too sweet. I had the very best slice when I attended my German friend's wedding (in the Dominican Republic, haha) and a close family friend baked their cake. But it was good. And seeing Kurt come out to put on the flambé show for those waiting for Bananas Foster was the highlight of the night. This would later be outdone when Kurt agrees to be in a picture with our group. Just a few weeks, I came back with bf because I wanted him to experience what I did that UYE night. With the Scoutmob deal that I had, the deal was absolutely too good to pass up. I got the pretzel again, for him to try. I ended up getting one each of the three available sausages from the appetizer section, along with an order of potato pancakes. He got the "Bill's Special," the Schwabian Platter, with tons of sausages, a pork chop, potato salad, and sauerkraut. Let me confess something right now. I had been deathly afraid of eating sauerkraut prior to this day and had always flicked it to the side or scrapped it off any sandwich that it came on. But I decided I would try everything. What a treat! You need the tanginess from this side dish to balance eating heavy sausages. Everything was absolutely delicious and I go on record as saying these are the very best potato pancakes that I have had to date. Honestly. They are done perfectly, crispy without being greasy, and the inside is fluffy and perfectly seasoned. The amount of apple sauce and sour cream served on the side is ideal. This time around, we were served delicious warm bread before our meals came out (which I don't remember for my first experience here). We had too much food and took about half to go. Then I couldn't help myself and I convinced bf to share flambéd strawberries and kiwi atop pecan ice cream. Kurt came out and honored us with his presence. This place is worth the money and the high quality is something that I don't really expect for such a suburban location. If you live within 20-25 miles from this place and enjoy authentic German food, do yourself the favor and head out to this Peachtree Industrial establishment. To entice you a bit more, I think small plates are half off during happy hour (maybe 4-6 pm) from Monday to Friday. read more

We did curbside the Saturday before Valentine's day and the online ordering system was great! Check those hours though because we almost waited until too late (7 ish) to get our order in, and we weren't expecting that on a Saturday. They did leave out our pretzel app, but my husband called and they were very nice and removed it from our charge. We shared the goulasch, and also had jager schnitzel, and the SCHWÄBIAN PLATTER. Servings were plentiful and leftovers reheated beautifully the next day. We can't wait to try more menu items! read more

Wunderbar! Welcome back, Kurt's! They're back in a more intimate space, but it retains much of the character of the previous location. Two dining rooms hold maybe 25 tables, a bar nook a handful more, and then the bar has room for many without feeling crowded. I was pleasantly surprised to see so many patrons during opening week. They've apparently been busy enough to drain the Optimator keg. The schweinhaxe was as delightful as I remember it, and my wife's pork tenderlion with mushrooms in a port sauce *almost* made me jealous. Kurt and his lovely wife Vreny have aimed for a finer European dining experience and have taken a step away from the biergarten for a bit. Some of the old faithful from the garten are there, but you might want to check if that's what you're craving. If instead you want the incomprable kassler ripchen or perfect wienerschnitzel, then you won't leave disappointed. Sorry Trader Vic's. Back down to your #2 slot in my heart. Kurt's was a very nice thing to experience. We stopped off here on our way to a hockey game at nearby Gladiator's arena. I'd heard about Kurt's, and looked forward to this meal. Kurt's is very dark and intimate within. Lots of wood tones and dim lighting. Our meal started with some really fantastic bread. The texture was soft and perfect. Our meal was also satisfying. We has some sauerbraten. Thinly sliced beef pot roast, with some spaetzel and some pickled red cabbage. It was slightly dry, but the gravy made up for it. Overall, it was tender, with a nice, sour taste. There are other things on the menu I want to try. Like the Pork Shank Schweinehaxe, or the Classic Weinerschnitzel. I would have never guessed in my wildest dreams that this awesome and almost authentic German style restaurant would exist in this part of Georgia. It's like the serious suburb of north Atlanta and far removed from the hip area of this town. It stands all my itself on this empty mall and it gets packed. It's easy going, laid back, wooden stools, tables and high chairs to the back by the bar area and small dining area to the right. I was lucky to have been there when it was enough seats at the bar while waiting and moved to a high rise table. We ate way too much. Bacon wedge salad with chunky cuts of bacon on the top, sausage platter, meat and cheese platter, curry wurtz and even gigantic shrimp cocktail for appetizer. You cannot go wrong with this place. So grab a beer or grab a liter and enjoy the good old times reminiscing about Munich beer garden. read more

Kurt's way exceeded my expectations - from the super friendly service, the delicious bread on the table with some of the most delicious butter I've had, the cute owners. I ordered the Classic Wienerschnitzel with spatzle, as did my dining companion, and we followed it with some mind-blowing bananas foster made tableside. I'd go back just for dessert, but everything we had was wonderful. The only con: that damn cuckoo clock over my head! Was cute the first time, but not so much after that. I'm very aware that thousands read these reviews which is why we post. Please be aware that the people who eat at your restaurant will believe it's German food when it's a poor depiction of it. I spent 20+ years there and what you sell as Goulasch is an embarrassment. Now it's been requested that my review is removed, because he doesn't like my feedback. Service is more important than food and the service was a one star experience. The chef was rude and continues to rebut my reviews instead of taking it with a grain of salt and moving on. I think maybe he want the review removed because I've highlighted the health score of 84? Again, I stand by review even though the chef constantly wants me to remove my review. read more

My husband and I went to Kurt's Bistro for the very first time on a very busy Saturday night. It took a while before we were greeted, but it is a Saturday night, so not a surprised. Service was a little slow but the food was absolutely amazing. We ordered oysters on the half shells and a clam chowder for appetizer. The oysters were very fresh and the cocktail sauce was a marvelous combination. The clam chowder was the best that we've ever had. We order grilled Mountain trout and a cowboy steak cooked medium rare. The trout was good, but the steak was absolutely perfect. It was tender and juicy, perfectly cooked and seasoned. We usually don't get desert, but we ordered an apple strudels. It was a perfect way to end the meal. I would definitely come back and try more of their dishes. read more

My first time in Kurt's "new" place. I was shocked to find out he moved there 6 years ago. I really like the atmosphere. Kurt greeted us at the door and we were seated immediately. Our server was great. We started with the charcuterie, which was wonderful. Maybe some more mustard and pickles to balance all that wonderful fatty meat... We then had the pork chops entree and Wiener schnitzel with spaetzle, mashed taters, and sauerkraut accompanied by a few delicious German pilsners. One of the sauces had too much rosemary IMHO, but I'm looking forward to going back and enjoying Kurt's fine German fare again very soon. The food was absolutely wonderful! It was a table for two and the atmosphere is marvelous with ambient lighting and gorgeous decorations. Our server, Shelley, was professional, kind and willing to go the extra mile. She made us feel welcome. We had the pretzel and special gumbo, and the lobster tail and Kurt's favorite. I used to really like this restaurant(20+ visit?). But years ago, my girlfriend and I both got sick after eating here. So we never went back after that. We both got high fever and diarrhea. We are pretty sure it was a food poisoning. We were very young(teenage?) and thus not educated enough about food poisoning. Unfortunately, we never report this incident to food safety agency with detailed evidence, as we do nowadays. This still may be a data point for would-be diner. Be aware and be careful. read more

My husband was wanting to go to a nice place with some good steak without having to drive to Atlanta for his birthday dinner! I'm so glad we found this place on Yelp! It's definitely a hidden gem in Duluth! (You know it's good if Daniel B has been there!) Alright, I couldn't let my previous review stand. My first dining experience many months ago at Kurt's must've been a fluke. Since then, I have been back three more times. My wife simply loves the black forest spaetzle (spaetzle with mushrooms, onions, bacon, and melted cheese). She's addicted to the stuff. I've had the filet mignon "Edelweiss", which is accompanied by six different dipping sauces (steak sauce, horseradish, bistro sauce, béarnaise, ancho chili sauce, and curry ketchup). They were all interesting accompaniments to the steak. We've also had the Hungarian Goulash (very hearty and reminiscent of home cooking - just like mom used to make), creamy potato soup (enhanced by weissbier), and a three-layer mousse cake topped with fresh berries (yum!). Very good food. The service has also been very warm and friendly (Kurt himself will prepare your bananas foster tableside, if that's what you decide to order for dessert!). Ultimately, I am glad to have such quality European dishes available to me so close to where I live. I'll definitely keep coming back. read more

My family and I ordered takeout to celebrate an achievement and it was the best food we've had in awhile! I liked how even during covid they were still very professional, had excellent service for curbside pickup, and kept all the food warm. Good service, well grilled meats, generous pours, warm giant pretzel: check, check, check, and check. Even though we arrived close to closing, the hostess (who may be the owner and Kurt's wife?) graciously seated us and we never felt rushed. We ordered the charcuterie, escargot, and Bavarian pretzel for appetizers. I wasn't big into the cheese on top of the escargot, but the snails itself were buttery and tender. The pretzel was warm and came with 3 dipping sauces. The Charcuterie was good but admittedly, not stand out. For entrees, we ordered all 3 specials. The Chilean Sea Bass, Lamb chop, and big hunk of beef. The lamb I had was outstanding, grilled perfectly. The sea bass was a little salty, but still decent. Chilean sea bass is always decent in my book. I like the old world feel of this place. It's warm and woody, the kind of place that might feel like it's full of regulars but also welcoming to newcomers. read more

My husband and I decided to try Kurt's for our Anniversary. My husband is German so I like to find German restaurants that will take him back home. Well I will have to say we were not the happiest after we left. When I walk into an establishment I would expect to be greeted with a good evening, welcome or hello. The greeting we received was how may I help you, and sometimes it's how you say it. It was said in a tone that I took as you must be in the wrong place. I thought it was just me but later in conversation my husband said he felt the same way. The Waiter was nice, polite and very helpful. The food was ok. My husband did say he enjoyed his Schnitzel but was a little puzzled with the white sauce. I would say all in all it was an experience but I am a very first impression person. The ambiance of this restaurant is great. It's perfect for intimate gatherings, be it a date or a small group of people. The appetizers were better than the entrees. The giant pretzel with the 3 dipping sauces was yummy, and the mussels were also awesome. The sauce from the mussels was perfect for dipping the house-made bread that comes out. In fact, I was sad when they took the mussels away because we were not done with the sauce yet, haha. The filet was okay, Kurt's Favorite (a goulash) was okay, the breaded chicken with pasta was okay, but he rack of lambs was DELICIOUS. It was perfectly breaded, seasoned, and cooked. Ordering this dish medium rare was a good choice. Honestly, the strawberry kiwi flambe dessert was better to look at than taste. I'll definitely be going back to try some more of their appetizers! I was on my way home and ask my Lyft driver to stop by this restaurant because I was hungry and didn't feel like cooking. Walked in and greeted by a sweet elder lady and two people behind the bar. They had just opened for the day and I was the only one there. The place is small but cozy and romantic. I would certainly take my date there for an intimate dinner. I ordered the black forest spaetzle and having never had it before, I didn't have anything to compare it too. Anyway, it was delicious. I tasted every flavor in that dish. It was creamy, cheesy, and flavorful. The black forest ham added a nice touch of saltiness without overpowering it. The mushrooms were firm and perfectly cooked and I took a few bites from the to go box before leaving because the chef and bartender were so excited about it that I couldn't help myself. This place gets a lot of reviews and really very popular! Think HEAVY! I have traveled to Germany several times and this is similar to German food. We had the "authentic" schnitzel (more breading than meat) lots of spaetzle and lots of spaetzle. Make a reservation or you will get stuck in the back with the new guy and frowned upon by the hostess. It always amazing to me that people can show up at 5 to eat (when it opens) there is no one there and be told you need a reservation! Visited: 12/23/2017 We went with some friends and have wanted to try this place for quite some time because we were all interested in trying German food. Upon driving up, we realized that there was barely enough parking. Honestly, we took that as a great sign. As we went in, we were greeted by an older gentleman and lady (I think it was actually Kurt since it looks like his face on the wine glass). As the older lady led us to our table in the back room, I noticed that the place has a very cozy ambiance. The beautiful Christmas, holiday decor was absolutely lovely! Definitely 5 stars on decor and ambiance. We ordered: BEX Riesling: Nahe Germany - This was a recommendation from our server and it was the sweet type of wine I was looking for. Not as sweet as a moscato, but it was still good. Bavarian Jumbo Pretzel - Fabulous!! Our favorite here! If you're craving a delicious, soft, perfect pretzel, then get it here! We couldn't get enough of it. The pretzel gets five stars! :) Belgian Endive & Baby Spinach - The main taste I could remember from this was sour, while the only taste that alleviated the overwhelming sour taste were the candied walnuts. The walnuts were yum! Thank goodness they were in there. Traditional Sauerbraten - Since it was the first time I've eaten real German food, I'm not use to the immense sour flavor that I felt overwhelmed the entire dish. The only part of the dish that was making my tongue not numb was the red cabbage. I was literally scarfing down my food to avoid the immense sour taste of the entire dish. Schwaben Platter - I tried some of this dish and wasn't pleased with the pork chop. I though it was too dry. Unfortunately the bratwurst was so disappointing because it was actually the one thing I was looking forward to. It wasn't even juicy! Overall, I can only rate this place with an overall of three stars because of the overwhelming sour flavors throughout a majority of the meal. However, I highly recommend the Bavarian Pretzel to anyone and everyone!! It was truly perfect!! read more

Nostalgia! Used to come to Kurt's in high school when it was in the other location as part of the Kiwanis Club luncheons. Food was good then but got markedly better over time. Get one pretzel. You won't be disappointed. Mussels were steaming and full of flavor. The bread served with the mussels was great. Smoked pork chop and bratwurst platter was presented elegantly as tasted even better than it looked. It was German indeed. A friend of mine got the bone in ribeye and I stole a bite. I truly don't understand how the most recent reviews are 5 stars because that is surely not what I experienced this evening. Our waitress, whom I do not recall her name but she was Caucasian with shoulder length hair, started off her greeting to the table as nice. We were waiting on one more person but my friend proceeded to order herself a drink and some apps to which our waitress wasn't very pleasant about. She also removed our plates pretty rudely. Our waitress came back with my friend's cappuccino to which in turn she asked for sugar, which yes I can understand it could be some trouble or "annoying" to go back for things when I suppose it could simply be asked for in one turn however, do not be rude to the table as a whole. We also work in the service industry and LOL we do not treat people as this "woman" treated us. She consistently threw plates on the table, or our water jug, and she rolled her eyes at LEAST 3x. At first I thought I was seeing things (with her rolling eyes) and initially I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt about her strength with the plates but if you do things more than twice then evidently it's intentional. These actions of hers ruined our impression on the restaurant and deterred us from ordering entrees because why would we want to give more money to an establishment that their staff has only shown us rude attitudes/actions. This wasn't hospitality that we were shown tonight. They were also pretty slow/dead for the evening and environment we were in this evening (for context). Food was mediocre. Truly was not impressed with anything here and I do believe front of the house (our waitress + initial absence of greetings from host) had a big thing to do with it. It was weird because she'd be rude but then try to come back being nice?? I really don't understand her but nonetheless, I never leave reviews unless it was pretty bad... or exceptionally good. Came here for GWR2017 last night. Perhaps I was expecting too much, but I thought the foods were just okay. I love that they have big proportions, but I've tasted better elsewhere. You would expect better service in that type of atmosphere and pricing, but it was somewhat of a disappointment which really brought this rating down. Will not return, but for those that wants to give German foods a try, come during lunch. read more
