Upon entering the interior was nicely done with European features. Servers are all polite and I really enjoyed their pretzel. The pretzel was huge, crispy, warm, and fluffy and three delectable sauces each complementing the bread came out. Kurt's has been cooking up Bavarian dinners for 35 years in Duluth GA . That says a lot right there . Went last night after not being there in awhile and it did not disappoint. Service and ambiance were very good . Food was awesome. Old school restaurant not found too often in the area . We started with the potato pancakes and ROASTED PORK BELLY MORSELS . Both excellent and good portions . The wife had the CLASSIC WIENERSCHNITZEL veal was tender and delicious. I had the SCHWÄBIAN PLATER which was over the top . I recommend this for a real hungry customer. No room for dessert but next time will be real soon . This is a gem in Gwinnett. read more

My husband and I decided to try this spot for a date night, and it did not disappoint! We didn't have a reservation, and it was a Saturday. We decided to try it anyway. We lucked out and got a table in the bar area. I would definitely recommend a reservation. The place was cozy and full of eager diners. The ambiance was cozy and dark. You could smell the deliciousness the moment you walked through the door. Our waiter was excellent (attentive, offered suggestions, very friendly), and other members of the wait staff checked on us from time to time as well. We started with the spaetzle black forest, which we read (here on Yelp) was the best item on the menu (pro tip: When Daniel B. says something is good - order it). It was incredible. Cheesy, warm comfort food at its absolute finest. Perfect for a chilly night. We also started with the potato pancakes, which were also wonderful and made me eager to make my own soon. There were a dozen small plates on the menu that looked great - it was hard to decide which to order. I would guess it is hard to go wrong. (And I still want to go back for the fondue!) For dinner, I ordered Kurt's favorite, which was a beef goulash with spaetzle, and my husband ordered the Schwabian Platter - pork tenderloin, sausage, German potato salad and more. Both were incredible. We did not come close to finishing the large portions, but we really look forward to enjoying the leftovers for lunch today! We had no room for dessert, but we didn't let that stop us. We had the bananas foster, which is prepared table side. Incredible. We left completely stuffed, but happy to have found a great spot close to home. I would definitely recommend trying many small plates and perhaps an entree to share. That being said here is what the wife and I tried. We started with the Black Forest spaetzle which is really reminiscent of a good Italian carbonara. Very good, it's obvious why this is posted on yelp a bunch. We also had the Bavarian pretzel that came with 3 sauces. One was classic mustard, one a honey mustard, and the third, not quite sure but was ok. The classic mustard was definitely our favorite. Better than Auntie Anne's. For our entree, I got the Schwabian platter. The main thing that stood out for me was the potato salad, I loved it. Everything else was good, but that was a new taste for me. Wife had the Jaeger Schnitzel. Basically a pork cutlet fried with some brown sauce, good, but didn't feel super different. We were super full at this point, but that didn't stop us from dessert. Apple Strudel with vanilla ice cream. Divine! I might suggest the Banana Fosters too as that looked entertaining and delicious. The food is delicious, and let me go ahead and help you out by telling you what is AWESOME here to get: Appetizer: The Mussels is made in a delicious sauce you can also dip your bread in to. Entrees: Pork Shank is AMAZING if you are in to eating a buttload of meat you probably won't finish and end up eating for the next couple of days. However, I know this isn't everyone's thing so... Another delicious entree is the Rib Eye. SO tasty. Dessert: MUST MUST MUST, you MUST get the Banana Foster. This is where Kurt himself will come to your table and whip up the banana foster on a portable stove in front of your face. All I'm going to say is... there will be flames. This restaurant I've had bookmarked for 2 years, we finally went tonight. I'm so mad at myself for not going before now. The staff made us all feel safe during this crazy time of COVID. The staff was so nice to us and was super sweet to my children. We ate out on the patio but the inside was clean, spaced out, and cute. The food was great! The beer was good (my only complaint was that they didn't have more locals as an option, like Tucker who specializes in German beers). Our server was nice and answered all my food questions. She explained different options and was helpful to provide suggestions. Our food arrived promptly and was delicious! The pretzel was a huge hit with the kids. I loved mustard served with the pretzel (but all the dipping sauces were good)! We each had a different main course. All the dishes were wonderful and authentic. We loved our experience. This was the closest German food we had outside of Germany. Their different sausages were all very good and each one had own unique flavor. I had the Jager schnitzel. The mushroom sauce complimented the moist schnitzel and the breading was perfect. My husband had the pork shank, the potatoes were beautifully served. The pork was tender on the inside and the outside had a nice crisp crust. Overall we were so pleased with everything! I will look forward to visiting again soon! We used to Come here a lot when we lived close by. It was the larger building in the back. Food and service were always amazing. Decided to take the drive last night. Service was excellent!! We both got the schnitzel, one chicken, one veal. Veal was ok, it had a few tough spots and I remember it being thinner, crispier. Both the chicken and veal were somewhat thicker and not as crispy. The chicken was the same, my husband said tender but same texture as veal. The potato pancakes were good. Plumper than normal ? Need a little longer frying. The red cabbage is always amazing!! My husband got the fried lobster tail. He should have gotten the broiled. He wasn't happy with the fried and it certainly is small. We split one dessert as we were both full. The apple strudel. It used to be warm when we got it with the vanilla ice cream melting onto it. It was a cold piece. Good wine and beer selection but a wine my guest wanted was out of stock. Okay. Food is on the pricey side (over priced I think) and you get only one side with meal. Spaetzle was cold and dry. Jaeger schnitzel was decent but didn't wow us. Since I lived in Germany for 5 years, I guess maybe I expected more from a restaurant with actual German owners. The owner's wife asked us to leave after 2 hours (from sitting down time) so they could seat another reservation holder. She didn't say "If you would like to go to our bar area and enjoy another drink, you're welcome to" She was nice about it, but my husband and I, and my nephew and his fiance, won't be going back. I remembered Kurt's when we were nearby last evening. I have no idea whether Kurt is still involved with this business, but we first encountered Kurt's Cuisine neqr Spalding Drive around 1985, later Kurt's River Green, and most recently the Bistro nearly ten years ago. When first dining at Kurt's it became one of our very favorites in metro Atlanta, and judging from the simple yet perfect experience last evening, it still is. We both opted for Weinerschnitzel that was perfectly prepared and even more delicious than we enjoyed in Berlin several years ago. The seasonal German beer, brussel sprouts, everything was yummy. Service was impeccable, atmosphere is cozy and seems more upscale than the prices, and it was great to learn that quality remains unchanged at Kurt's after the pandemic. You can buy a more expensive meal than ours, but there is no reason to do so. Highly highly recommended, thanks! read more

After having passed the restaurant hundreds of times (no exaggeration), I finally decided to go with a good friend. The ambience is great and the food is "good." Based on appearances and prices, I felt it could have been much better. There was nothing exceptional. It was all just fine. My friend ordered the Caesar salad. They said they had "no chicken in house." We both thought that was a bit strange. Also, no cracked pepper on the Caesar and no offer to add any. That's not a Caesar's salad. So happy to have had the chance to take my brother and his wife to Kurt's for a 'thank you dinner' last Saturday, as the service was great and the food outstanding, as always. That and my brother and his wife really enjoyed the place too! I first patronized Kurt's in 2015 when I was working on a 6-month IT project for a nearby 'tractor company,' and visited Kurt's at least twice by myself before taking my associate partner and full partner there for a business dinner. They loved it and I loved it too, and so it's been over four and a half years since I was last there, but it was worth the wait. I actually made 'late reservations' that same day as their 'OpenTable' app was telling me that nothing was available until 8:30 PM! Ugh. So I called and spoke to Alexander who helped out a lot. He said he could get me in at 5:00 PM if I was there exactly on time, so I WAS there early (@ 4:50 PM), and the hostess sat us immediately! Word to the wise: If OpenTable app tells you nothing is available...CALL THEM. My Jaegerschnitzel was good (excellent serving size...but could have used way more mushroom gravy), but the sauerkraut side and spinach side was even better. That and the draft Pilsners made for an excellent meal that all of us enjoyed. FIVE STARS for excellent food and great service. read more

My family has told so many stories of their wonderful experiences here that I was overjoyed to be invited to join them. Today is Christmas Eve, the place is packed and yet we were warmly welcomed and meant to feel as if we were the only customers in the restaurant. Kurt is from Germany and the food reflected authenticity in every bite! I had visited Germany as a child and I was quickly whisked back in time to that trip. The Chicken Yeager Schnitzel was outstanding! I was encouraged to start with the schnitzel and work to the mushrooms and chicken. Ranch bite was a compliment to the prior bite. I was advised that the portions are generous so I didn't each much today. I still brought a box of left overs home. The Pino was a perfect pairing to the chicken. It was a special occasion so the meal was topped off with a slice of tiramisu which also was spectacular. The service was impeccable and timed perfectly. I hope to come back again soon! read more

My girlfriend and I dined here on a Friday evening after attending an event in the area. She works nearby and had dined here before so she recommended this place for dinner. Located in a small plaza, parking is easy and although we didn't have reservations, we were able to be seated immediately. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice - dark, intimate, quaint with small tables, white tablecloths, wood furnishings. There are smaller nooks of tables throughout and the look and the feel fools you into thinking you're not in Duluth anymore. Our server was very friendly. We were not greeted right away, but beyond the greeting, the service was attentive. I was not in the mood for alcohol so I ordered a sweet tea. The tea arrived to the table with a glass of ice and a bottle of Gold Peak -- yes, the Coca-Cola tea you find in the grocery store aisles. The server opened the plastic bottle at the table and poured it into the glass of ice then left the plastic bottle at the table for me to finish. The prices and ambiance of this place scream more upscale dining but immediately the experience was thrown off. On to the food! My girlfriend and I both eyed the SPAETZLE BLACK FOREST: Double smoked bacon, woodland mushrooms, sweet cream & melted emmenthaler. We tried the Spaetzle for our appetizer. It arrived at our table piping hot and was seasoned very well. However, the more we ate of the dish, the more I was disheartened by the pool of grease sitting on the bottom. The dish is so rich and filling that I'd imagine it's impossible to finish in anticipation of a full meal. We accompanied our meal with a salad: BISTRO SALAD: artisan lettuces, shredded gruyere, petite tomatoes, fried onions & fresh chives creamy vinaigrette. The salad was fresh, delicious - probably the best highlight of the night. For our main dishes, my girlfriend and I both ordered the 22oz bone-in ribeye. She orders her steak medium well and mine was ordered medium rare. The steaks are served on awkwardly-shaped long oval-like plates that are too small and as a result, the server spilled most of the meat juice on to the table and on my lap as she tried to place my plate down. Immediately she was accosted by [who I assume to be] the owner, telling her she should have carried the plates one at a time. After she set the plates down, and with meat juice still dripping from the tablecloth, she surprisingly did not offer to move us to a different table - I instead had to request to re-position myself to sit next to my friend so I would not have to endure my entire meal dripping in meat juice. Look, I get that these things happen - my confusion around the entire experience is that there were several empty tables around us; wouldn't it make sense to ensure your guest is comfortable for the duration of their meal versus sitting with a pool of meat juice -- on the table, dripping onto their lap, or otherwise? The option was not even proposed. However, the owner did stop by 10 minutes later to check on us. I wish I could say the delicious steaks redeemed the whole experience but I can't even go that far. Both our steaks were overcooked but at this point we were just ready to get out of there. My steak was pretty dry. I guess we were both not feeling it at that point because we boxed up about half of both our steaks to go. The meal ending up costing around $70 and I was hoping either the service or food would justify the expense but sadly it did not. read more

A marvelous German restaurant! We like all kinds of food, but sometimes crave for a wiener schnitzel or a schweinhaxe. And here they were excellent, see pictures. The schnitzel was perfect, crisp and pounded tender and thin, served with beautifully cooked spinach. It is veal and not pork. The pork knuckle was presented with a knife sticking up, and pretty much covered the plate. The skin was crisp and the meat cooked tendet in a way pork can be. Lot's of juice. The mashed potato was nice and smooth. They have of course a big beer selection. I chose the liter doppelbock. My wife and I agreed this was the best German meal we've had for years. We couldn't finish and boxed the remainder, adding some strudle to take back. Strudel was also among the best. Service was good and inconspicuous. This restaurant was probably a house, so the space is a bit cut up. But they use it to give privacy. We had an alcove just around the corner from the entrance. Good food and great service. I came into Kurt's Bistro extremely hungry, and ready to eat! I came in at around 5:30pm by myself and was promptly seated at the bar area. The server was very accommodating and helped answer all of my questions. I ended up ordering the Bavarian Jumbo Pretzel, the Wienerschnitzel with braised red cabbage on the side. The Jumbo Pretzel was certainly no slouch in terms of size. The pretzel came with 3 sauces, mustard, horse radish, and a honey mustard sauce. The pretzel was very soft and went well with the trio sauces. My major concern with this jumbo pretzel was that the salt distribution was very bad. Some parts of the pretzel were not salted at all, but some parts were extremely salty. The Wienerschnitzel comes with a side of Spaetzle(German Pasta) and lemon butter sauce. In my opinion, the wienerschnitzel itself was not too special. The breading was light and crisp, but the meat was bland and felt fairly average. The spaetzle was not bad, but I felt like I barely had any noodles to begin with! The outstanding part of the dish was the lemon butter sauce in my opinion. The lemon butter sauce made the dish come together. The lemon butter sauce went well with the spaetzle, the wienerschnitzel, and even my leftover pretzel pieces! The braised red cabbage was just alright in my opinion. Nothing felt out of the ordinary with this side, and in my opinion it wouldn't be something I would get again. Excellent food, atmosphere, and service. We dined last night with 2 other couples. Starters through dessert and coffee, the meal was top notch. We spent 3 hours together and never felt rushed by our waiter, who timed our meal perfectly. We started with the roasted pork belly, jumbo pretzel, and fondue, sharing with one another so we could all try different things. The portions were hearty and everything was delicious. I had the classic weinerschnitzel, which comes with spaetzle, with a side of red cabbage. The veal was cooked perfectly with a creamy lemon sauce. The spaetzle was a little dry, but the red cabbage side may have been the star, for me. My husband had the Schwabian platter, which was more food than he could finish. That never happens. We had coffee and shared the apple strudel for dessert. Dense and loaded with apples, almonds, raisins, and warm spices, it tasted more like a bread pudding. Still wonderful, just not what I was expecting. Again, an excellent meal, timed well so that conversation flowed nicely over 3 hours. We will be back! read more

My husband and I have been take out/ curbside for a year now. Some places fail miserably, but Kurt's excelled. Online ordering is a breeze. You get the usual email confirm. Upon pulling into the curbside parking spot, you are greeted immediately by someone to verify your order, and it is brought to you within seconds. It was well packaged, and the food was excellent. Sign up for weekly emails of the curb side specials, and you won't be disappointed. There is a great variety each week with reasonable prices, and the quality is always excellent. We've enjoyed the chicken fricasse, prime rib, and more. We usually dine here for their Valentine "feast" but reluctant to eat inside this year, we were pleased with our take out special dinner. I just got home from this place.. and I am so. freaking. full. but I'm gonna write about it anyway. I am German. Unfortunately, that helps with nothing except for my recognition of the phrase "Black Forest" anything... and all the words with "weiner" or "schnitzel" in them. Regardless, I had a lovely evening at Kurt's. I think really, the best part is that Kurt was actually there walking around and even made our dessert... but I'm getting ahead of myself. This is a family atmosphere if I've ever seen one. I think someone's grandmother was helping us move tables when we first got there. I'm not being disrespectful; in fact, I loved this. I felt like I wanted to hug this lady and invite her to sit with us to tell us German stories of far back in the day (which was a Wednesday, btw. Ok old joke.) The potato pancakes I started with were good. I think this might have been my first time I've had them officially (Yea, I mean there's not much German about me except that I was born blond and my name is Heidi.) You get a little side of creme fraiche (which I think is just literally a fancy way of saying sour cream..) and another of apple sauce. It was good. Felt traditional. I also tried the frog legs. I was really hesitant when I read about them on the menu. I don't really care for things that LOOK like actual body parts or eyeballs. However, these showed up, and they were only slightly different than chicken wings.. and honestly, tasted about the same with the exception of the garlic butter sauce and tomatoes around them. I ate frog legs and lived to tell about it. Then, I really wanted meat tonight. I didn't want to overdo it though because I had already tried the potato pancakes.. and some pretzel larger than my head, plus I was drinking and knew I would have to get a dessert... so I ordered a lower level meat plate. The Filet Mignon "Edelwiess". A smallish piece of meat with 6 sauces. I don't remember all the sauce names.. but honestly, I could have been pretty happy with that piece of meat without all the rigamaroll of dipping condiments. The meat was very good for meat.. cooked just right for me.. and tasty enough... but I didn't feel like it was something out of this world that I couldn't get anywhere else. For dessert I went with the apple strudel, partially because everyone around me was already getting things I wanted to try. It was pretty good.. Different than I expected. I guess I was thinking it'd be like a slice of apple pie, or something a little more crumbly. It appeared to be slice from a loaf-shaped apple goodie. It had raisins in it, which I didn't expect, but they were a lovely addition. Add ice cream and whipped cream and you've got a pretty little dessert. I also tried the Black Forest cake.. which was good, but surprisingly not my thing. (More chocolate, less cherry is more my speed, but that's not very German of me...) I also tried the Bananas Foster.. now THERE is a dessert. Kurt himself came out with a rolling cart to literally fire up the bananas foster. We all got so quiet as we watched him.. and he commented "So quiet... Vee are not in church" (in his satisfyingly German accent. Thank you!!) Damn bananas were good.. over ice cream.. sweet with a little bit of a crust on the edges.. MMMMMMMmmmmmm! Then I was treated to a "Damn Good Cup of Coffee" which was of course spiked with kaluha, baileys and amaretto. MAN, the things I could do in a day if I had one of those each morning... All in all, a satisfying dinner. I didn't feel like it was completely original, never-find-it-anywhere-else food.. but it was definitely cooked right and with care. The service was great.. and it, with the addition of Kurt himself, really upped the experience. This is a family-centric dining experience you WANT to visit to support and help sustain.
