Ate here last night. Good was pretty good. I went a little bit after six because I saw a photo on here that happy hour ends at 6:30 but it didn't. It ended at six. Luckily the waitress was really nice and still honored it. Adding the new happy hour menu here. I feel like there were some decent deals there, but then other stuff didn't seem great overall I enjoyed it, but don't feel like I really ordered the right things. I would probably do the Ramen next time the mochi ice cream dessert was really good and the sake for happy hour for five bucks was a good deal.
Ok I have been here before but again forgot to take pictures of my food or drink because I was a fight for my life in there. Now I really do love they have an upstairs sitting area which I have the last time I was here. I wanted to sit there, but there was a swarm of gnats or fruit flies everywhere!! Now I was thinking it was maybe just in the upstairs sitting area...no they were in the entire restaurant! I couldn't even enjoy my miso soup without having to continually swat them to not accidentally have any of them land on my food. When I ordered my sushi I couldn't even eat because I had to immediately put napkins over the sushi so nothing would land on my food! I ended up moving outside which was way better than sitting in the restaurant and this is why I have to give them a 3-star. Because this is very unsanitary as they were EVERYWHERE! Customers shouldn't have to be swatting gnats the entire time we are trying to eat. So I don't have any pictures of my food as I was scared one might land on my sushi. The Tokyo Tea was really good I think I had 3 of them. The wait staff were really nice...but they need to get those gnats under control. I'll be back maybe in another 3-weeks hopefully it will be better!
Kusshi is a wonderful gem somewhat "hidden" in the far left corner of Pike 7 Plaza. I visited on a Wednesday night and was surprised there was a good amount of people having dinner. There is seating downstairs as well as seating upstairs. The store is beautiful and clean with Japanese inspired wall paintings and floral decor. Our server for the night was Kat who did an amazing job. Very attentive, personable, and friendly. For a party of 3 we opted to try one of the sushi boats, specifically the "row boat" with 76pc. Everything is made fresh and tastes fresh. We loved everything from the sushi boat except for one of the rolls which I believe is the firecracker roll only because it was a lot spicier than we expected it to be so we couldn't finish that one. Other than that, for 3 people the row boat is plenty of food. We should've ordered the smaller boat because there was some sushi leftover but the seared salmon belly is a must!
Service: it was a quiet lunch and there was only one waitress on staff. She was great! Very sweet and put my order in promptly. Ambiance: very clean and beautiful. Love the murals - rabbit anime. There's also an upstairs dining area. Food: I ordered the sushi bowl with yellowtail and the Kusshi noodles to go. The sushi was fresh, rice was perfectly cooked, veggies crispy. I'll have to report back on the noodles but it looks great with beef, chicken and shrimp!! Update for the noodles: VERY GOOD. I like the slight spicy flavor. Had it the next morning so it reheated well. Thumb up :) I thought the meal was reasonably priced for Tysons. I received a special for my complex so wanted to give this restaurant a try. So glad I did. Thanks to the manager for extending a special for GOM!!!
Solid sushi spot in Vienna. We ordered a bunch of items, starting off with the takoyaki and the gyoza. The takoyaki was really good, and the sauce went with it nicely. The gyoza was good as well but nothing special. We ordered several sushi rolls as well, along with salmon and yellowtail sashimi. I don't eat a ton of sushi/sashimi, but both tasted very fresh and were tasty. I ordered the kakuni donburi for my main, and it was also tasty. The only complaint I have is I wished it had more of the Japanese pickles. Service was solid, no complaints. The restaurant is very cute. At first glance it doesn't look like it has much seating, but there is an upstairs area as well with more seating. I would definitely come again!
Pretty decent sushi for the price and I do enjoy that their nigiri is assembled with more than fish and rice which gives good flavor to them on their own. The upstairs space is super cute as well and decor is very cute. I'm really impressed by the serves climbing up down the stairs overall solid sushi place that is still affordable
Sits in the Corner of a mall like plaza. Walked in and asked if they were open and then offered to have seating on the ground floor or upstairs. I chose upstairs. Was seated at a place with a view of the staff building my delicious meal. I ordered a sushi tartare, Obi and rainbow roll. All were tasty. The Obi was the most interesting. I didn't care for it but least I tried it. I added a hot green tea vice an alcoholic drink this go round. Great choice. Music that was playing in the background was also an interesting mix.
Dangerous mistake. I called ahead to ask if I was allowed to do a pickup order with a sesame allergy, they said yes of course. I wrote a note for each item on the online ordering system "SESEAME ALLERGY" and it shows printed clearly on the receipt. When I picked up, I made sure one final time to ask the manager to make sure there was no sesame, he promised there wasn't. I drove all the way back home, and whatdoyaknow... sesame seeds everywhere. You'd think they'd want to save money by using less ingredients? What's worse is we had been emailing back and forth and they decided to just stop replying to me. Do you understand I could have died? Do you know how much EpiPens cost? They don't care.
3.5 stars: a few great bites, mostly just okay. Would not go out of my way. Came here at an off time on a Sunday and was able to grab a seat upstairs. The decor in there is very cute. Service was a little slow at first, but it could be since we came at an off time, and it was their lunch break. Overall, they were very friendly and attentive. FOOD: ~ Yellowtail Crudo (4/5): Thick cuts of yellowtail topped with some chili oil crunch. Tasty and the chili oil crunch isn't too overpowering ~Dragon roll (3/5): Just okay. The seaweed wrapped on top blocked some of the flavor of the eel ~Uni taco (3/5): Great portion. California uni isn't my favorite (so personal preference), but it was nice and earthy with the brightness of the shisho leaf ~A5 wagyu taco (4.5/5): Wagyu was tender and seasoned well. Great portion. Sauce was good. Just wish there was some other topping to cut the richness ~Scallop taco (3/5): unfortunately the yuzu or maybe there was some kind of herb (mint maybe?) that just overtook the flavor of the taco. ~Bluefin fatty tuna taco (5/5): So good! No notes ~Sashimi sampler - 18 piece (3.8/5): good value. Overall fish quality, freshness, and taste was just okay Not a bad spot to visit if you're in the area, but probably wouldn't drive all the way out here for it.
The waitress was super nice and helpful. Don't forget to check in to get a free appetizer. I got the Philly roll, got beef (surf & surf), and nationals roll. I also got the California maki roll with roe, ovi, spicy salmon, and kusshi seared fatty salmon. The rice quality is so fresh and you know it's good when it doesn't fall apart. The seafood tasted fresh. My fan favorite is the kusshi seared fatty salmon. You can taste the smokiness which pairs well with the sauce on top. Also, the right chew texture. I like the seating upstairs. It's decorated with Japanese cherry blossom. I came here using the Groupon just make sure to include taxes in that total. They're one of my favorite sushi place.
This is a great place for sushi! We went there for lunch, and got the eel don, and the sushi taco trio. Everything tasted fresh and delicious! We sat at the top balcony area, and were treated with a Birds Eye view of the sushi chefs creating the beautiful dishes. The service was ok that day, we understood he was working by himself, and it was busy. We would go back if we are in the area.

After five hours at Dulles on board a United flight that never took off, I needed some place to console my grounded butt and two young boys in tow, all of us starving. Imagine to my surprise when a tiny Japanese joint in a strip mall beckoned us forth with ramen and sushi despite the late hour -- and a line of cars with hazards on out front, a conga line of DoorDashers. A good sign. We were warmly greeted by the hostess who, on realizing our plight, urgently rushed out some seared salmon belly and - my god - I think I just about fell over with the absolutely perfect smoky sear, rich umami, and light sweetness of the sushi rice. Blew my mind. I was shaking. The yakisoba was alright but my son's tonkatsu ramen was some of the best I've ever had, with a delightful sear on the kurobota. A cold can of Hitachino Nest complemented things nicely. The whole time the waitress doted on the boys and was ever present and cheery. Completely turned our night around. Six stars. read more

All aboard! The boat is leaving the dock. The Kusshi Speed Boat that is! Had family-style dinner at Kusshi and shared the Kusshi Speed Boat, Nigiri Sampler, and tempura appetizer. The sushi was good. I was happy with the cuts of fish and rolls we ordered. The tempura appetizer was average. The restaurant is in a tight space at the edge of Pike 7 Plaza. Most of the seating in the restaurant is upstairs. The upstairs was hot and humid, especially as we visited in the middle of the summer. I'm not a fan of the interior design of the restaurant-- there's a lot of exposed metal which makes it feel industrial and cold. I would prefer driving down the road to Vienna or McLean for my sushi fix-- the sushi is just as good, if not better, the prices are similar, and the restaurant interiors are more intimate and welcoming for dates and dinners with friends. read more

Good food but unfortunately service handled a mistake poorly. Servers realized they brought out the wrong order (we overheard them) told us that the entree was coming out shortly and then did not bring out the entree for another 20 minutes (most group members had finished their meals). When bringing out the check they still didn't address it. I politely informed them that they made a mistake could have been addressed it more appropriately and he simply struggled his shoulders. We ordered a variety of things here- ovu, firecracker, surf and turf, tiger, spicy mango, phoenix, seared salmon, takoyaki, ika geso, wings, ramen and the new yoju cans. I'd recommend the ika geso, seared salmon, surf and turf and tiger rolls. I really enjoyed the yoju! Definitely different from what I've drank before and super refreshing! Highly recommend the mango one. Nothing too fancy here- sushi was okay. Maybe it was just an off day for the staff? Not sure I would come back as it is a little far for me. We had an issue with the ramen as the noodles were a bit over cooked and they kindly took it off the bill. The Galleria Roll was pretty good, but I felt like it could have had more masago. The Salmon Avocado Roll was a really nice happy hour deal! We weren't as satisfied with the Spider Roll and Chicken Karaage. It seems as though both were a little burnt--something was off about them, so I wouldn't order anything fried from here again. I wouldn't pay full price for the karaage, given the portion size. While this is personal preference, I was also disappointed there weren't as many salmon-based rolls on the menu; most of them had tuna. The seating was nice; I really liked the second floor. Visited last Monday for dinner. We had purchased a Groupon and after trying this place via delivery a couple of times, we were excited to actually dine in. This is located at the end of the strip and there is typically parking right outside but they are under construction. We still found parking pretty easy and just had to walk about 2 minutes. When arriving, we chose to sit upstairs and this was great to see all of the artwork - I didn't expect the inside to look so cool! The cherry blossoms were a nice touch as well. There was a happy hour menu but the hostess notified us this didn't work with the Groupon. The happy hour prices were great and I'll definitely be back because they had some $5 rolls. We ordered the fatty salmon nigiri which was so smoky and delicious as it was seared. The rock shrimp was also good, kind of like bang bang shrimp but more spicy than sweet. I loved the wings as they were flavorful and the waiter also provided extra napkins for these. For the sushi, we got the Tyson's roll which had very fresh salmon. The kushi ko roll was my favorite as it had more of the fatty salmon on it. The yellowtail jalapeño was also good and the spicy tuna was good. It was nice to try the rolls fresh and actually see them being made right from our view upstairs. When paying, the waitress actually did honor a few happy hour prices as the extra cost that the Groupon didn't cover so this was great. Officially my new favorite sushi spot in Vienna/Tyson's! This place is a MUST try. Plus, I am excited to finally find a sushi spot open late. For a more casual dining, Kusshi hits all the marks! We ordered the Kusshi speed boat ($100) and it easily filled 3 people. It's hard to pinpoint the most amazing piece because every piece was fresh and delicate. I would highly recommend ordering the boat to try a spread of amazing rolls, unique nigiri pieces, and high quality sashimi. We also tried the kusshi seared salmon nigiri and WOW. It was so buttery and it melts in your mouth! I would recommend getting a few pieces. The red bean Mochi was my favorite of the flavors and was a sweet ending to a perfect meal. Everything is great quality! Came to try out the restaurant week meal and while restaurant week deals tend to be smaller positions, kusshi did not skimp out! The option i chose came with two appetizers (edamame and gyoza dumplings), 12 piece nigiri, and dessert. the seared salmon belly was divine, literally melts in your mouth!!! It is a must try! The sushi is very fresh and perfectly cut slices. My friend ordered pork Katsu and the portion was enormous. The service is pretty good, they're very attentive. Would definitely recommend trying this place out. Bonus: I've seen them donate meals to local schools and communities, so love that!! read more

Nice place to try and amaze your taste buds. Definitely stands out from regular sushi places. Miso soup is nice. Do try their special rolls. I liked spicy mango, galleria, fire cracker and Maryland. Even if the dishes had similar main ingredients, each one has a likable unique taste. Attention to detail is really good. Atmosphere is nice but smells fishy all the time. Someone with high sensory skills will have hard time seating through the service. Spoils the dine in experience for some. I'll probably take a takeout next time. Staff is friendly and service is quick. Expect an average wait time on weekend nights. Sunday evenings are relaxed for dine ins. Takeouts are available. Abundant parking available. Husband and I were craving good sushi and with the help of my trusty Yelp app, Kusshi Ko was found! Located at the end of a strip mall, plenty of parking can be found and it's a super convenient location (right off a main road and near the metro too). The inside has cool and vibrant wall art, with a choice of seating upstairs to overlook the restaurant or seating downstairs as well to be closer to the action. Customer service was great and restaurant was clean too! We tried the Wagyu sushi, Wagyu sashimi, Tiger roll, and Surf & Turf roll. Everything was delicious and was served quickly. I honestly didn't expect too much, but the entire experience exceeded my expectations. Foodwise, the takoyaki, ramen, edamame, and unagi don were solid, but the sushi was very very good. For a place that's situated at the far end of a strip mall (where Sarku also exists), I would definitely consider this restaurant a hidden gem. Was skeptical at first because Google mentioned that they were closed temporarily. But walked in, got seated immediately upstairs. The seating area is a little small and crowded. But the decor was cute, they had the cherry blossom theme and nicely painted characters on the walls. The food (pictured) came out very fast. The ramen was delicious, highly recommend!! The meat to noodle portion was perfect. They gave us a good amount of meat, vegetables, noodles, and sides, which made it super filling. The spider roll could have been filled with less cucumbers but overall good. The shrimp was nice and crispy. The dragon roll was really good as well. We went to the Bethesda sister restaurant a few time and always enjoyed it. We've been to the Tyson's location twice and it's been a little hit and mix due to it still quite new. First visit on 12/30 was great. We got a few rolls (Nationals rolls, and yellow tail rolls), appetizers (miso soup, takoyaki etc) and sake. There were also a variety of pickle vegetable that was yummy. Everything was on point. On 1/8 visit (today), we also ordered takoyaki, miso soup, a couple rolls and kuushi noodles. The hot food wasn't bad (takoyaki is ALWYS good in both Bethesda and Tyson's locations) but miso soup was not as flavorful and sushi rice was slightly warm and mushy. Miso soup and inari were 2 items we got for to go back on 12/30 for my mom and she enjoyed both so much but was slightly disappointed today. The staff was nice and asked how the food was and I felt bad but decided to tell the truth and they were very gracious. Hopefully the new location will be able to figure out their link soon. I really want to like this place and want to be able to visit often. read more

Kusshi Ko has been my go to sushi spot for quite some time now and for great reason too! Right when you walk in, you're greeted by the staff and seated right away. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxing with a beautiful mural. The service is top notch, and all the servers are super friendly and know the menu inside and out. They gave us excellent recommendations, and when we asked our server Ava to give us a surprise, she did not fail to give my partner and I the most delicious dish!! There's many great options at, but if you really would like to treat yourself, I 100% recommend the VIP sampler. My go to rolls are definitely the Kusshi Ko and Ovi. Overall, Kusshi Ko has blown me away. The food and service were excellent, and I can't wait to go back to try even more! read more

Saw this place on Instagram and decided to give it a try! The restaurant is small, and has nice upstairs lofted seating. The menu has a lot of options for appetizers, hot dishes, and sushi rolls. We ordered the tempura appetizer, edamame, seaweed salad, crunchy roll, shrimp tempura roll, sushi bowl, eel and avocado roll, and ovi roll. The appetizers were all pretty good, as was the sushi. However, the flavors of the fish weren't a standout experience to me. The ovi roll has seared salmon (one of my favs) and it lacked that soft buttery flavor that some other sushi restaurants can deliver.
