I took my parents here to try the noodles because I've been itching to try this noodle spot for ages. I got the spicy broth noodles with a fried egg on the side and this was definitely a next level type egg that they had fried. It looked like it was scrambled and dripped into deep frying oil and then made to look like a nest. It was delicious though and absorbed a lot of the broth from the noodles. For the noodles, the broth was excellent. Everything was piping hot and I mean HOT. Spice wise, it's actually pretty up there and the portion was humongous. It was loaded with a bunch of stuff such as tomatoes, and your protein of choice, mine had fish slices in it. The broth was what set it off for me. It was like liquid flavor. Everything here is so tasty and authentic, and the portions are huge! Rice noodles are my absolute favorite and I think this might be my new favorite spot in the area! I got their Pickle Pepper House Special Rice Noodles and it was spicy, savory, a little sour, and just packed with so many toppings for added texture. The bowl was also really deep and lasted me two meals. The ingredients are super fresh, the rice noodles are soft, springy and soaked with flavor, + the broth is so flavorful. Each base noodle costs $7.99, and you can choose additional toppings such as tofu, chicken feet, mushroom, and more veggies for ~$2-4. I got the basic spicy pickled vegetable, and was pleasantly surprised that even the basic noodles was pretty big in portion and came with lots of pickled veggies, slices of tomatoes and strands of enoki mushrooms, some spam and pork, and even 2 quail eggs. Currently there is no restaurant signage but it replaces the spot where Vons used to occupy. Food: 5/5 - We ordered the Pickled Pepper House Special and Sauerkraut House Special. I love how so many Chinese restaurants are popping up all over the Bay, it's so fun to try all of them. I had never been to this plaza before, so was excited to try the food. The soup was very filling and flavorful. I loved how many different ingredients they had inside, from the bamboo to the different types of meat, although I was not a big fan of the liver. The service was nice and attentive on a busy evening. My table even had a bit of a Karen and the staff handled her really well. They gave out free Iced Tea to every table which was perfect for a spicy meal. The presentation with the old school pot and wooden spoon was a nice touch. Very photogenic! Unfortunately, the food and ambiance is where things go downhill. It's just not a comfortable place to be. The tables are small and the place is crowded. They don't have chairs, so everyone sits on stools. Kinda feels like a cafeteria. The Mifen was honestly disappointing. Way too oily and the broth wasn't very flavorful . It was just spicy without any depth. They didn't have cilantro or green onion, which is pretty much mandatory for this type of dish. They also have very traditional toppings which is fine, but they are charging $15+ for a bowl of really humble ingredients (Pork skin, intestines, liver and feet). I love the noodle soup! It has tons of toppings! I ordered the medium spicy sauerkraut (pickled mustard) rice noodle, it's flavorful and not so spicy. The combo choices are awesome, it's quite valuable. The 2-person-combo can choose 2 noodle bowls, 1 side cold dish, and 2 iced lemon tea. We 4 people ordered 2 combos and didn't finish all ( we have average appetite). I have to say, the lemon tea is really a surprise for all of us. It's real green tea, blended with lime slices, and can see the lime pulps floating in the drink. It tastes a little bit bitter from the green tea and the pulps, but it awakes me just like an espresso. The service is good and warm. And the waitress gave us the perfect recommendation and we loved the food. The only cons I can think of is the restaurant uses stool instead of chairs. Well, I take is as it's better to enjoy the soup and much more like a traditional "suo fen" feelings . It's just not a place to sit back and chat.
