Preface - Congee is ordered as per serving, and took about 25 minutes to cook. We ordered 2 servings for 3 people, which is about two bowls of congee for each person plus a remaining bowl and a half. It is also Teochew style and not your typical Cantonese style, so there are a lot more grains present. Food 4/5 - Ordered pork liver congee with spinach, pumpkin pancakes, marinated beef, and blanched spinach with garlic dressing. Marinated beef is fine, the chili powder gives it a small spice. Pumpkin pancakes were good, came out nice and hot and were sweet. Blanched spinach was fine, had lots of garlic. Last to arrive was the pork liver congee, which was freshly off the stove. The congee is flavorful and the pork liver was good. Price $$ - Price is high for the portions that were served. Service 3/5 - Service is average. Water is brought to you after you sit, and you'll need to flag down a server for service. Ambiance 4/5 - Interior is good with modern themed decor. Overall - If you're in a time crunch, you should skip it. If you have an open schedule, it's worth trying out.

Fate really be testing food lovers... because I would absolutely drive 30 minutes to Fremont again just for this congee. Weekend wait was no joke, but worth it. We ordered the clam & dried scallop congee base, then added sea cucumber, crab with roe, mushrooms, and Chinese yam. The flavor was insanely rich and fresh -- comforting without being heavy. Somehow it tastes both light and indulgent at the same time. The beef congee was also super flavorful, so even non-seafood lovers would be happy here. And the braised pork knuckle platter was HUGE for only $9?? Unreal. First bite and I immediately thought: THIS is what good congee is supposed to taste like. If anyone knows other amazing congee spots in the Bay Area, please send recommendations my way!

The food is not bad - we ordered a pork congee and it has a very strong sesame oil flavor. I enjoyed it. The free side dishes are very salty and the kimchi is very spicy. I was not a fan of that. The menu is quite confusing as well (the prices are additive depending on what you want to add to the congee!)

Really enjoyed this meal at Congee King! The seafood clay pot congee was super comforting and flavorful. We ordered the dried scallop and prawn congee with fresh crab, prawns, and baby squid, and it came out steaming hot in a clay pot. The congee was thick, rich, and full of seafood sweetness. The crab roe added so much flavor to the broth, and the prawns were fresh and meaty. I also loved dipping the fried dough sticks into the congee. We also tried the braised beef and pork feet. Both were very flavorful and paired perfectly with the congee. Great spot for a warm, satisfying Cantonese-style meal in Fremont. Would definitely come back!

There are quite a lot of flavors of porridge (ranging from a dozen to twenty). You can add seafood, meat and vegetables (I added cream crab, beef, pork liver and shrimp), which are quite good. The pork liver is very tender and not fishy at all. I recommend cream crab! Add it to the fresh eyebrows ^_^ Huadiao Drunken Shrimp has liked this dish since he was a child. His family handles it very cleanly. Remove the shrimp line and shrimp head. The shrimp is also very large. Friends who love shrimp can blind the spot! Not bad Braised pig's trotters: full of collagen, glutinous taste ~ It's cooked very bad and delicious. Eat a big mouthful of pig's trotters with a bowl of porridge. Really! Fresh

Came here twice and had two different experiences with the porridge ... First time everything was delicious. We got the mushroom base and beef base mixed and added fresh geoduck. The seafood was fresh and the congee was thick and rich in umami. Second time we got scallop/ shrimp, beef, and fish as the base, and added oyster from the frozen section. The broth was much more watery and bland this time. It also completely lacked seafood flavour despite having so many seafood ingredients. The shrimp was not fresh and I think I saw one teeny tiny dried scallop piece, so I'm sure they didn't add much. Overall the sides are decent as well and come out much faster than the congee (which takes 25+ min), so it works well if you're hungry. The tofu century egg is spicy and goes well with the congee. I'd come back maybe once more to see if the issue were the bases we chose the second time... but otherwise I'd say this might be a splurge meal because it's not the same without the fresh seafood. Service can be slow when they're busy (I think it's bc the food takes a while to come out), so expect to wait especially during peak times

Decor is simple & functional; but why paper cups?! 3.5* Porridges (congee) are unique in the sf Bay Area. Not your traditional preparation. YMMV... I like it. 4* Braised beef shank 4.5* Drunked shrimp 4.5* Braised duck wings 2* Braised Pork ears 2.5* Pork ribs 1.5* Chinese donuts (ordered two plates) 4* Braised sauce is a bit bland but maybe it's their style. Just not for me. We tried to order braised tofu (not available) or live geoduck (not available) maybe soft opening & didn't stock well. We had a party of five. From the menu, one can order single porridge (congee) pots. So we wanted to order 5. Waitress told us the max is 2 pots per table due to kitchen limitations. Hmmmm... 1* If you have more than 2 persons. Split into 2 tables! They ended up letting us order 3 pots. Anyways, the porridge tastes good to me with fresh ingredients. But the ingredients are very light. Of the 3 pots, fish & shrimp/clam are very good. The eel is so-so. Since it's their soft opening, hope things will improve. Can come back to give it another chance for dinner ordering the fancy live seafood. btw, it's not cheap! Our lunch was over $30 per person

Always the choice when craving for seafood congee! We've been to this place many times and ordered 2 servings of congee with added seafood. Crab, lobster, and clams are good choices to go with congee. Their braised pork trotters and drunken shrimps are also delicious!

    Spicy and very tasty kimchi

No napkins! The porridge tasted like cooked rice and broth. The rice grains are still in its original shape, not like the bloomed grains for porridge. The kimchi and peanuts condiments were yummy. No English speaking service.

This place isn't bad but one thing you have to know: for a place called congee king, their congee isn't really congee. It's just watered down rice - lacking the actual congee consistency. It also can become pretty pricey once you add all of the stuff to it esp. if you opt for premium seafood like crab. On the upside, their dim sums weren't bad and were definitely cheaper than the actual dim sum joint next door. So worth coming for those if that's what you like.

Good quality congee - I like how you get to choose what ingredients you'd like to include in your congee. Since congee takes quite some time to cook (25-30min in our case), it's best to order some appetizers or veggies first if you're hungry. This is not a place for a quick lunch so adjust your expectation. Pricing wise it's a bit on the higher end considering the location but the quality of food can justify it.

Food was really good (we ordered a basic fish based congee with no extra proteins). However, the wait time was terrible. I feel like we waited about 30 minutes. I would definitely do a take out order in the future, but I would be very hesitant to dine in unless I really had a lot of free time.

Though I prefer my food a little bit more flavorful, Ping's Bistro really shot every single flavor up. The Steamed pork belly with preserved vegetables was served first, and without a doubt, is one of the spiciest. It's a good size for sharing, but the preserved vegetables on the bottom was mushy and came in a very small portion. Though supposed to be a part of the dish, seemed to be thrown in just for some extra flavor. Though I selected mild spiciness for the Spicy Boiled Fish, it was still REALLY spicy. Maybe it's my spice intolerance, but this dish lights a fire in your mouth. Also, this dish is mala, so it numbs your mouth. Some people may enjoy this sensation, but it's a pass for me. The fish was really soft and tender though. The fish was my favorite part of the Spicy Boiled Fish. Not only there is fish underneath, it was surprising to see other ingredients like lotus, vermicelli noodles, and much more. The salted egg covered pork was extremely salty and oily. I was surprised to know it was boneless, and I felt like the salted egg crust is too thin, which let the taste of the pork overthrow any type of salted egg taste. The Country Style Sautéed Pork with Eggs and Black Fungus was again one of my preferred dishes, though it was extremely oily. I really liked the egg, black fungus, and bell peppers in this dish. The eggs and black fungus were soaked with flavor and the bell peppers balanced out the heaviness. The pork was also alright, but more on the tougher side. If you were to come to Ping's Bistro, I would advise you to order the Country Style Sautéed Pork with Eggs and Black Fungus. The floors were really sticky, but other than that, everything was alright. The water was poured messily, but I guess it's no big thing. The staff were really quiet and avoided interaction. When they serve your dish, they never wait an extra second before they leave for any questions or requests. They just drop the dish and zoom away. From my review, just remember: saltiness. I'm not convinced that I'll come back again, but I'm glad I tried it out.

Updating my original review to increase to a solid 4 star review…read more Last night, May 30, 2026, Dad and Thelma treated me to dinner at Pearl Bay Restaurant to finally celebrate my birthday. We arrived around 7 PM without reservations. The restaurant was PACKED with several parties one of which was a wedding. Still, we were able to be seated at a table after about a twenty-minute wait. Below are what we ordered: Macau Style Roast Pork Belly ($22.99) - Good, but on the salty side. Steamed Shrimp Dumpling (6 pcs, $16.99) - Yay for Pearl Bay offering these dim sum dumplings for dinner. These are HUGE har gow because there are two shrimp inside. Double yay!! Sweet Corn & Minced Chicken Soup ($18.99) - Velvety smooth and the perfect balance of savoury and sweet from the corn. Sweet & Sour Chicken - I didn't see this in the menu, but I requested for a plate of crispy chicken with a sweet glaze. Our waitress suggested this and said that she ask the kitchen to fry the chicken to a crisp. Although I would have preferred a little more crisp, I was happy with the flavour. Special Deep Fried Tofu ($13.99) - These looked a lot crisper than they were, but I still enjoyed the little cubes of fried tofu. Crispy Spring Rolls (6 pcs, $14.99) - These fried egg rolls were crispy, indeed. The side of sweet and sour dipping sauce were a good complement. Wok Fried Minced Chicken, Diced Fish & Pine Nuts with Lettuce Cup wraps ($23.99) - I heard our waitress ask if we wanted it with chicken, and I didn't taste any fish in the yummy mix. Very nice. Pan Fried Beef & Vegetable Egg Noodle - This was another special order that I requested. Very good. Dad really liked it, too. Deep Fried Sesame Ball - Yummy, but, again, I was looking for more crisp. Service was stellar again. Now that Ho Chow has permanently shuttered, Pearl Bay Restaurant is looking to become my new favourite Chinese restaurant in Fremont.

When you enter and get seated, you will be prompted to go on the url code at the table to pick your items. While I understand that this is the new way for restaurants to serve guests post-covid, the vast menu items you have to scroll through makes me long for physical menus of the past - but that's just my boomer take for the day. There were a bunch of other items like rice and noodle dishes that looked interesting to pair with the meats, but we were only craving bbq so we skipped out on the carbs. We ordered a BUNCH of skewers, from the standard beef, lamb, pork belly to chicken skin and a fried quail. All of the skewers had the same type of dried chili powder spice seasoning mix so unfortunately there wasn't too much of a diversity in flavor profile but on the flip side, it allowed us to focus more on enjoying the meat quality itself (this is where rice or noodles would definitely help cut through the richness). All of the meats were incredibly well-cooked and charred. It is on the drier side, so be aware if you are looking for a juicier, plumper cut of meat that some other restaurants have. Paired with the Chinese vinegar, soy sauce, and chili oil, they were super delectable. My personal favorites were the pork belly, chicken skin, and beef. We had some leftovers to go and the staff provided us some extra sauce to go so that's a big plus. Great food here and definitely will be back to try more of the other menu items for the full experience.

I love the el dente texture of the noodles giving it a bit of chew. My braised pork belly dry noodles was not dry... very watery which was not to my liking. I want my dry noodles with as little gravy as possible. The flavor was light despite all the gravy, but the veggies and one egg made it up. The house special dry noodles had just the right amount of gravy for taste but not enough ingredients. I was wondering why the restaurant is called One Piece...
