We have planned our vacation destination around Kyles for the last 3 years and it has not disappointed us. The shrimp has always been fresh and odor free, we order ahead to get it peeled, deveined and steamed. We love all of the dips, soups and smoked fish. We then head next door for some fresh sourdough and cheesecake from Heavenly Cheesecakes and we are all set for the week. Fantastic local seafood shop! It doesn't look like much, but don't be fooled. Kyles is absolutely worth the trip. Royal Reds were fairly priced and fresh - didn't try any of the other fish this trip. Whatever you do, don't overlook their key lime pie - easily the best in St Augustine and perhaps in all of NE Fla! Their homemade soups are also excellent - the Minorcan clam chowder was unique and authentic. Went 3 times in the week we were in town and will definitely be back!! read more

Decided to try Kyles after our normal seafood market was bought out by a chain market. We bought a few pounds of the crab cakes made at the market. The crab cakes were delicious. I cooked them like the market suggested and they were the best we have had. We will return for mire seafood. read more

Beautiful selection. They had this massive grouper in and someone got the cheeks, I was a little jealous. I wanted the cheeks. It's fresh. It smells great. The scallops are huge and local. The shrimps are too (including colossal ones). They have stone crab claws when in season. Beautiful grouper. Other local fish I don't recognize yet (drum fish). Oysters. Things in the freezer like breaded oysters. They do have fresh lobsters, but not on the day I went -- but I got these frozen MASSIVE beastie Florida lobster tails. Do not buy oysters from here by the bushel or half bushel. All you get are clumps of 3 or 4 small oysters that have grown together. When you try to separate them, you destroy half of them and most of the rest of them are too small to even bother with. read more

Know where I can find good sea &old, but this is where I come every time I need to feed folks more than I can put on the table fresh. They do excellent work with the smoking - I don't have one very favorite place for smoked mullet, but this is one place I always buy some...it's a non-4-star, old Florida taste along with local fish+ dips and the non-NE clam chowders that are worth sampling if you have room on the menu. The fresh fish is on display behind the counter on ice. I mean every kind of seafood you could think of is there. The beautiful shrimp caught my eye. There were three different kinds to choose from. I wasn't sure which one I wanted and was told I just had to try the Royal red shrimp. I asked for 10. They were wrapped up and a small bag of ice was also put in the bag to keep the shrimp cool. We also got some of their award winning chowder. There are freezers full of all kind of ready made meals and deserts. You can also find a shelf with different spices and sauces. There is plenty of parking out front. There is also a fruit stand next door to the store. I tell you it's one stop shopping. read more

I can't believe it took me this long to stop in here. This place has a lot to offer. First of all, a great selection of fresh fish and seafood. I picked up a filet of snapper but you can also get whole fish. They smoke fish a few days of the week and when I visited they had salmon and mullet. I picked out a nice mullet while I was there. They also sell seafood, fish, and shrimp dips; homemade soups; and a lot of different condiments, with a lot of Datil pepper options. That's just in the fish shop. They also have a fresh produce stand and a little bakery. I didn't get anything from the produce stand or bakery this time but I will be back. Now that I know of a local fishmonger, I plan on stopping by there at least once a week to incorporate more fish into my diet. read more

Not a good first impression. I went for clams but several of the bags had open dead clams in the display. I got the only bag of 100 clams that seemed ok. Prepping the next day for a bake there were only 84 clams in the bag with 4 of those bad and 5 were empty after steaming. So that was $35 for 75 clams. Seriously who could not count correctly? Some places add a few extra clams for good measure. I sent a message to them the next day and got no response. They got 2 stars because the fresh caught shrimp were very good. Won't go back and will shop our local market in Palm Coast read more

There should be 6 stars for this place. As fish mongers go, this place tops them all. Real small place (you have to go outside to change your mind), but the fish is really fresh, and they are very polite and helpful while you work through the myriad of fish options. We haven't been steered wrong once, and actually have been steered righter if that makes any sense. Well I know what I mean. They will filet your fish for you while you wait, or you can take it home, skin on or skin off. Again they ask and present as desired. I told you this place deserved 6 stars! Oh and try the fish dip. We're natives of Florida and have a condo in St Augustine. If you travel from coast to coast you won't find a better seafood market. There's another 'seafood' market in St. Augustine but compared to Kyle's it's not so great. Kyle's is Fresh, friendly and clean. But fresh is the key and they've got it! read more

A friend told us about this place and now we stop whenever we're close. Love the seafood dip. Tried the shrimp dip which is excellent, but the seafood is our favorite. Today tried 2 soups. Corn chowder and lobster bisque. We decided on the chowder and it was great. We couldn't find good soup already made until now. Oops, posted without finishing. We also bought red snapper which, IMO, is the best fish in the world. Fresh, mild, tender. Absolutely mouthwatering. We bought vermillion snapper but haven't eaten it yet. If it's half as good as the red snapper I'll be happy. I love how they have little samples of soup and dip to try before buying. read more

Some of the best shrimp I've had in my life were the royal reds we got from Kyle's Market. So fresh and so sweet. Have not had a bad experience yet. My fiance and i love stopping in at kyles. This last visit er picked uo some smoked fish dip, and it was amazing. We also went in looking for the Lobster Bisque as it is our favorite, they had some frozen but encouraged us to try the Seafood Chowder since we liked the Lobster Bisque. There were more kinds of fish here than I've seen before, but we settled n Flounder which sautéed up beautifully with some butter and lemon. They had about five kinds of shrimp - we went for the red ones, which are going to be today's lunch. Service is prompt and competent. They didn't have time to chat, but it would be fun to drop in some time when they aren't busy (is there such a thing?) and learn more about the business. Next door is a fruit and veggie stand that opens after 10 am, and looks to have lots of local produce. So - back to Kyle's we go tomorrow. read more

I went here because of previous reviews. I was highly disappointed. The shrimp I bought were small and overpriced. I had peel and eat shrimp at the Mill Top the day before. The shrimp served at the MillTop was larger and better by far. Too bad. I like to support local fish markets. In this case it did not work out very well at all. read more

Kyle's is as good as it gets in St. Augustine. I'd heard about this place numerous times from locals and family members about the quality and price of seafood here, and am kicking myself for not stopping in sooner. It's a small little market located right on US1, just north of the city gates. Plenty of parking available for Kyle's, and there's also a veggie and bread market next door. It's a small shop, but they definitely have what you're looking for. Guy behind the counter was super friendly and helpful, and I was able to pick up a few pounds of locally caught shrimp and some large scallops. There was a ton of good looking fish, lobster, crab, etc all available as well. They were even offering up some free samples of their homemade chowder which you could purchase in ready made containers. Can't go wrong with that. Spent less money then you would at local grocery stores, and the seafood was fresh. I made some AMAZING meals for my wife on Valentine's Day, and the leftovers were delicious for the next few days. Definitely recommend stopping in here to pick up any seafood- locally caught, it's a local shop, the price is right, and the seafood is awesome. Will be back. A lot. read more

We got a half bushel of oysters for $24. Maybe that's an ordinary price at the beach, but I thought it was a steal. I'm not sure how many oysters were in there (the guy said he gave us more than we asked for), but we weren't able to eat them all. We made everything we could with oysters (e.g., fried po' boys, shooters, raw, baked), and still couldn't get through the bag. Most importantly, they tasted really fresh.
