Absolutely terrible from the moment we walked in! The service was awful, no manners. We finally get our food, get to our cabin (which is not within a close proximity) only to find out they gave us the wrong order. We call to ask for a refund since at this point we are so done with driving after a long trip to our destination. The manager refused to refund us. He had the audacity to say the wrong order HE HANDED US contained more food and was more expensive; therefore he doesn't really owe us a refund. Despite all those reviews we decided to give it a try . The place is authentic, real Japanese. The food is delicious, children had unagi soup , I took spicy one, my parents had miso soups. And we took a set of Kyoto set of sushi. For 7 of us it was a real fest ! And the mocha ice cream was a nice dessert. I need to warn people not to eat here. Literally the worst sushi I've ever eaten in my entire life. I don't know how it even has 3/5 stars.. they slather the rolls in nasty sauce so you can't tell how old the fish is. I scraped the sauce off (half inch thick layer of spicy Mayo) and to my dismay, the grossest salmon I've ever seen. I spent $35 on 2 rolls and a nigiri, and threw the whole thing away. Even when the sauce was scraped off, it was super salty. The rice was dry and hard. The eel avocado roll had 2 half inch pieces of eel on the entire roll. Wtf? This is a Japanese style restaurant run by a Korean family. Although they specialize in sushi, try also include several Korean items on their menu including bulgogi, kalbi and jjamppong (spicy seafood soup). The service was very Korean: abrupt and honest. This restaurant is the first Japanese restaurant I've visited in a while where the miso soup was not overloaded with salt. If you want salmon fresh served straight from Tsujiki market from Tokyo in the middle of f nowhere this inland, then your expectations may need readjusting on your Yosemite trip overall, and best to stay away from all restaurants 100 mile radius from Glacier Point. Ordered Kyoto Bulgogi, Udon special and jampong (spicy noodles) and got four of us comfortably fed and happy. They give enough avocado and cream cheese (I get the phili roll every time!) I've never had a bad roll there, even when I switch it up! So upon walking in, staff (an older man and a young woman) weren't "rude" but they weren't friendly either. Very short. After seeing them interact with other customers it seems they are much more friendly with locals/repeat customers which I can sort of understand. When we said "thank you" they didn't respond. So we just stopped saying thank you until the end of our meal. We ordered three Yosemite rolls, three unagi avocado rolls, a salmon skin roll, a pink roll, an order of tuna nigiri, and an order of flying fish nigiri. They seemed irritated that we ordered only water to drink, but that's what we wanted, so whatever. All of the sushi was very good, in my opinion. I especially would recommend the Yosemite roll. I liked everything a lot and we might go back again before we leave the area. I saw another review complain that the nigiri had wasabi on it, but I think that's typical with nigiri so if you don't like wasabi, just remember to ask them to leave the wasabi off. Towards the end of our meal a much nicer/more friendly older woman came out and refilled our waters. I've seen other reviews mention food poisoning- so far we haven't experienced this at all and everything tasted fresh and delicious but I will update if we have any issues. At this point I would totally recommend the sushi, just don't expect a warm welcome. I do think this is a family run business so we always like to support those when possible. Had dinner here before attending a lecture. We ordered one California roll, one Philadelphia roll, calamari tempura and vegetable tempura. The staff was friendly and attentive, so no problem there. We were served our food quite quickly. The calamari tempura was tender and the vegetables were tender but not mushy. One piece of broccoli, two green beans, some yam, carrot slices, a piece of Asian squash similar to acorn, and one onion ring. The batter was light and crispy, and did not taste like it was cooked in stale oil. Usually, my favorite part of sushi rolls is the sweet vinegared, short-grain sushi rice. But the rolls we were served were made with unseasoned long-grain rice. I did eat them all, but I probably won't order sushi again. We hoped to get a couple of fortune cookies or maybe even buy a small bag to take home, but there were none. Anyway, it's a lot different than back when Yoko Savage owned it. My wife and I were craving asian food and didn't feel like cooking in 98 degree heat at the campsite. We saw a sign "Kyoto Kafe, authentic japanese food" with dishes in Korean. It was a small restaurant with was pretty plain inside. It isn't the most clean place I've been to. I ordered the teriyaki beef bento box which included beef, rice, 4 california rolls, veggie tempura, salad and miso soup. It was pricey at $13.99 so my expectations were high. My wife ordered the udon. The miso soup was bland. the udon's soup base was too salty. The tempura wasn't crisp. The beef and cali roll was alright. While we were eating, one of the workers was walking around with a fly swatter, and there were 4 other tables with patrons eating. I thought, what is she doing, I look down to take a bite and "WHAM!" she smashed the fly swatter on the empty table a foot away from me. "Got it!" she says in Korean. What the? I started cracking up because I've never in my life seen this in any restaurant. Here's the serious problem. This place is UNSANITARY. Period. I can't go into detail but what my wife and I saw is not acceptable in any restaurant, especially one that serves sushi. How the servers handled food can cause serious illness.
