Drinks were good and for food we got the crispy tuna rice ( 10/10), roasted cauliflower (GET IT), short rib and the fried chicken. I mainly wanted the roasted cauliflower because the green sauce paired so well with the cauliflower and it just tasted light and addicting. Came for happy hour and omg was blown away by the food and drinks. I didn't have very high expectations because I always think Asian Fusion places are mid (in terms of food) but everything we ordered here was delicious and the flavors were really thoughtfully and uniquely curated. I particularly loved the Japanese Sweet Potato and the S'mores Cake. The Japanese Sweet Potato had a great caramelized crispy cheesy sweet taste, and the portion was super generous too (the biggest sweet potato I've ever seen...) And the S'mores Cake was so decadent and rich. It is a bit on the sweeter side but the dark chocolate balances it out and I absolutely loved all the flavors. It's an elevated S'more (graham crackers, chocolate, marshmallows) paired with a rich slightly alcoholic-tasting banana ice cream. The cake itself has like lava chocolate inside that gushes out when I break into it, literally chef's kiss. So so good. We also tried the Kyu Spicy Chicken Sandwich and the Hamachi Crispy Rice and both were amazing too. Definitely will come back soon and try the other things on the menu. On the morning of Sat, Aug 19th I took a nice long tour of lower Manhattan, not by choice (thanks for nothing Mr. MTA Bus Driver Man) and finally made it back up to SoHo where KYU NY. is located. My frustrations of being a tourist in my own city instantly subsided once I walked into KYU NY. What a swanky restaurant, oozing of date night vibes, early in the afternoon. For this meetup, it was a celebration brunch with my friends Anna and Cynthia. We chose family style sharing with the Everything Scones with Chive Miso Butter and Cherry Jam to start. I would say this was an ode to an Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese and Jelly. Such a creative combo, with the scones being deliciously tender and flaky. A good choice. Next up, the Cauliflower with Goat Cheese and Shishito-Herb Vinaigrette. The cauliflower seemed steamed until tender and finished off in the Salamander. Another thoughtful, flavorful dish with 1% of yearly sales going to environmental non-profits. Cool. Next, Tuna Crispy Rice served on top of Smoked Chili...yummy. And lastly the Korean Fried Chicken on top of Chili Butter and braised Spinach. Crisp and delicious. I was wrong and could not have been more delighted with the food quality, the generous portions, the incredible service & energy. My friends were vegetarian so we opted for veggies only family style meals. I was worried because this spot is best known for meat dishes but my god the vegetarian dishes were flavorful and incredibly filling. Definitely have the roasted cauliflower. The sauce they used was like crack. I did have to request some doughnut like bao to actual savor the sauce remnants as they don't have other bread on-site. The stone pot veggie fried rice was also flavorful. The star dish for me was the udon noodles with wood eat mushrooms. Just incredible flavors. We asked our server what were most favored desserts and we had the coconut cake (just divine), dark chocolate s'mores (I mean what else is there to say but wow), & the soaked milk bread. My good friend Anna made a reservation about a month prior however were told the restaurant week menu is offered during the weekend, which isn't the case when we arrived. Our waitress later told us ordering off the regular menu is a better deal compared to ordering off the restaurant week menu, which logically doesn't make sense nor is it true. FOOD: We were given the option to order individual meals and family style. We opted for family style to share. Crispy Tuna Rice - it was good. I like the tuna. The rice was thick and crispy. Everything scones - came in 8 small pieces. The warm rich buttery aroma fits perfectly with the flakiness of these mini scones. A side of miso butter and cherry jam was fresh and goes well with the scones. Cauliflower - I enjoyed this dish the most. It was surprisingly delicious and the texture was rich, creamy, and yet light all at once. It comes with a whole cauliflower sitting on top of shishito-herb vinaigrette and goat cheese. Opted to go there for Sunday brunch and the food didn't live up to the hype. 1. Crispy tuna: came generously piled with mashed tuna. Underwhelming. Sure the rice was crispy and sticky. But there was something missing. Not balanced. It needed some sort of acid and well, flavor. Meh. Also pretty pricey at over $36 for four pieces. 2. Ssamjang chicken sandwich: came with a generous breaded chicken in the middle. It was just alright. Nothing special. The sauce could do with more work. 3. Brisket hash: also pretty pricey for what you get. Flavor was alright. Not bad. Very few pieces of beef. The crispy potatoes were nice though. Beautiful spacious interior. We ordered the grilled octopus, duck Thai rice, beef short rib, Japanese sweet potato, and the coconut cake. Kyu is a very beautiful, romantic spot that I would recommend for date night or small groups! I was here on a Friday afternoon with 2 girlfriends for happy hour drinks and we loved the relaxed vibe. Every week they offer a special cocktail by the bartender so we tried that and it was very delicious! I don't remember what it was called but it was a pineapple and tequila based drink. Only complaint about the venue is that the tables are pretty tightly packed - a bit claustrophobic. Started with drinks. Both the pink puppy and Wynwood mule are good, but a bit too sweet for dinner. Decent sake list, so we got that in addition to cleanse our palate. Here's everything we ordered. Krunchy Kale - pretty large bowl of kale. A bit too much for just two people - perfect for - table of three or four. Nicely fried and well seasoned. Can get a bit salty once you reach the bottom, but a perfect starter with your drinks. Salmon Crispy Rice - despite what the internet says, not the best crispy rice I've had in NYC. It was good, but I thought the rice was too hard. The salmon is tasty and the rice was well seasoned. Just don't crack your teeth when chomping into them. Beef Short Rib - super tender, well seasoned, great char off the grill; meat falls off the bone. Dish comes with some sauces and picked veggies and lettuce. Works well with the lettuce and some pickled veggies. Wagyu Tartare - amazingly executed. Best beef tartare I've had so far. The seasoning hides any gaminess. The house rolls are delicious. They need to have these rolls as a separate dish - or as complementary for the table. Stone pot Thai rice with King crab - excellent flavors working in harmony; the stone pot creates a layer of crispy rice; we were stuffed by the time this came out so couldn't enjoy it to the fullest. Service is friendly and easy to flag down. Sometimes hard to hear our server over the loudness of the place. Overall, this place lives up to the hype. We got a bottle of sake, the two cocktails, and the dishes listed above - came out the about $400 for two. Pleasantly surprised by how good the food here is! Here are some of my fave dishes: 1. They are well known for the beef short ribs. Don't get fooled by how burnt and black it may look like. The food was good, but the service could be improved. When we were first seated, we waited about 15 minutes before the server came by to offer us water. Once we ordered, it took a very long time for our food to arrive. The table next to us ordered well after we did, but they received their food before us--even though we ordered the same dishes, from appetizers to main courses. For my girls birthday dinner, we decided to do the tasting menu with wine pairings. They started us off with crispy rice and tuna (not pictured), crispy kale, roasted cauliflower, followed by the fried chicken and the stone pot fried rice. Everything was delicious and I would absolutely recommend everything but that crispy kale changed my life for the better. I need the Chef to tell me how to make that at home literally the perfect snack. The fried chicken was seasoned & fried to perfection & was the perfect blend of Korean & Black American spices. It's sat on a bed of spinach with a chipotle type sauce, and I will think about this dish for a while. For our main entrée, we had the short rib, grilled broccoli, and sweet potato. My God today. The first 30 minutes were a disaster, but they made it up after some time.  The biggest issue is their service; everything else is rather good. SERVICE  We had a reservation and were initially seated inside, but it was uncomfortably loud. We requested to be moved outdoors, and the weird part was -- it seemed there was no designated server for the outdoor area, resulting in us needing to ask for service multiple times. Eventually, I had to snap a bit to get their attention. The service really needs improvement; it was quite a significant mishap. To give you an idea of the extent, I arrived a bit late, and my friends had already started with drinks. Despite staff frequently passing by, I couldn't get neither any attention nor a drink for about 20-25 minutes.  When we finally got a server's attention, he seemed rushed and unprofessional, trying to remember our orders without writing them down. He re-confirmed our order four times, repeated it again three times, and still forgot some items. We let it pass, but it was frustrating. At one point, we were the only table outside, and the staff constantly rushed us. Meanwhile, the inside of the restaurant was bustling. It felt very unwelcoming. To top it off, they didn't even offer us dessert--we had to ask for it.  The service definitely needs attention. Sitting outside allowed us to be a bit more forgiving, but it would have been a disaster if we had stayed inside. AMBIENCE The interior is stylish and lavish, filled with beautiful people, and features a gorgeous bar where you can enjoy a fancy cocktail. However, one downside is the noise level--it gets quite loud inside. Because of the noise, depending on your table's location, you might struggle to hold a conversation, which led us to request a move to the outside terrace. The terrace is lovely and comfortable, well-separated from the street, providing a pleasant experience. FOOD The food was honestly delicious. Even though we weren't very hungry, we ordered a variety of dishes for the table. Each dish was not only tasty but also visually appealing. -- Kale Chips: These are okay; the chips are quite fatty and greasy. I enjoyed them, but they didn't blow me away. I guess it is a perfect dish for kale lovers. -- Salmon Crispy Rice: It's not my favorite, but my friends loved it--so let's trust their taste! The crispy rice was delicious, but I did not really like salmon. -- Beef Tartare: This dish is absolutely delicious, served with fresh bread. If you love and eat raw meat, it is a must-try. The dressing was spectacular. -- Cold Noodles:  This dish was everyone's favorite--definitely a must-try. The flavors combined made it delicious. We also opted for some desserts, something very chocolat-y & something very coconut-y.  While these weren't the best we've had, they were certainly not the worst. Sweet enough to love those. Overall Experience Overall, I left satisfied except for their service. The ambiance and food were really good, though the service could use some attention. I was worried about this place after reading reviews for this place on Yelp for dinner but I was pleasantly surprised by the brunch and loved it - especially on National Ice Cream day too when they were giving out free ice cream. We ordered four dishes in total I believe and I got their oolong Arnold Palmer drink - a tart yet refreshing drink for me. French toast was delicious with the banana and tiramisu filling and not too sweet. The short rib was very tasty and everything else in the dish was tasty and seasoned nicely, like the veggies, avocado, and potato. The egg benedict tasted good especially with the sauce and the salad had a nice citrusy taste. I loved the matcha soufflé pancake; the whipped matcha was light and complimented the soft and good level of buttery pancake. I enjoyed the food alongside the nice aesthetic, prepared silverware, and friendly staff as well. And we got to finish the meal with the free ice cream, I got the pretty blueberry lavender sorbet and it was thick and milky on the outside but fruity and refreshing on the inside. For dinner I recommend the grilled octopus and halibut which were our groups favorites and I also suggest trying the seasonal cocktails, especially the Noho Cobbler. Their classic shishito peppers have an incredible sesame vinaigrette like nothing I have ever tried before. I was also lucky enough to try their brunch on Saturday and was amazed with the food as well, I went with a large party of friends and everything we tried was insanely good but for sure my favorites were the blackened miso corn ribs, cinnamon roll and the skillet pancakes. I also thought it was great that the staff was very accommodating when it came to dietary restrictions and offered slight variations of some dishes to help maintain the family style dining experience. Wow ! What an experience. Came here for a nice team dinner with some colleagues from work and wow we were blown away. Shout out to Meagan and the rest of the staff for the amazing service and suggestions. The space is beautiful and conveys a sense of Lo-Fi Luxury. The hip hop music combined with greenery and the laughter of the company is the perfect trifecta. NOW THE FOOD !! It just kept getting better. I thought the fried chicken was the best meal of the night , then the Pastrami bao buns came out , then the burnt ends became the best but THE SHORT RIB ?!! Incredible way to end our dinner perfectly paired with the sweet potato. And to top it off the Strawberry Sundae is incredible. Texturally it's all there combined with this almost elegant fruity pebble flavor. Would definitely return ! read more

I've been meaning to come here for happy hour (Mon-Fri) 5-7pm. I believe Kyu came here about a year ago and is pretty popular in Miami. I'd like to state I came alone which is very important when reading reviews and the way a patron is treated (oftentimes not as great). Decor: loved the vibes! Modern, simple but comfortable. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by the host and walk into the beautiful bar and small lounge area w/beautiful seating. I grabbed a chair at the corner of the bar & was greeted with a smile by Chris. We both laughed that we wouldn't forget each others names since they were similar. I asked a few questions and he answered everything with no issue. I decided to go with the "bright" something or other. I actually went to google the exact name and they don't have it updated online! Lol so strange because they also gave me the wrong happy hour menu that had the wrong description of the drink. Smh. No biggie. Just know that cocktail is THE BOMB! Don't let the pepper fool you, so delicious! I stuck with this drink & definitely took the train home tipsy 4 drinks later...hahaha! I ordered the crispy fried rice and sweet potato. Honestly, I wish I read the other reviews saying the tuna was just okay. I definitely agree. The sweet potato though....BAY-BEeeEeeee....EPIC. I know, I know, you're saying who talks about a Japanese sweet potato like that? ME, I AM PEOPLE! Trust me on this & get it! It's what a good orgasm in your mouth is. It's a warm hug on a cold winter night. It's filling & wonderful without being too complex. Also, both Chris and the other bartender were so incredibly nice and friendly! The one bartender took some pics that didn't come out great. When he asked me later, I let him know they didn't come out great. Legit took more pics without the least bit annoyed! Thank you boo! If this isn't on your list, I highly recommend making your way towards here as soon as possible. First off the decor and the ambiance here is nice and intimate, so if you're coming here with a date they'll love it. The portions are meant to be shared, our server was nice to explain everything to us and said that meat portions are big so it was best to pick 1 meat and get appetizers and small plates instead. We chose the beef short ribs which came with 3 sauces, pickles, and pickled onions. This was falling off the bone and so tender and all the sauces paired perfectly with the lettuce. Highly recommend getting the tuna crispy rice as well. My partner who is not a fan of seafood really, thought this was one of the best appetizers he had in awhile. We also got fried pork gyoza, this had great flavor, but I think next time we would get it pan seared instead of fried, since it felt almost heavier with having it fried. We got the Clay pot rice with vegetables, there was option between duck or crab, we were glad we stuck with the vegetable option as the rice already had so much flavor and really rich, so if you're getting this in addition to your main course stick with the vegetable option. We were walking by this place and got pulled in coz of beautiful aesthetics. Gorgeous interiors, well lit place and is huge inside. It was pretty packed for a Wednesday night. The servers are warm and welcoming and general ambience is great. However what they offer in terms of food and drinks is not worth the price they charge. It's definitely overpriced for what it offers.. Cocktails / alcohol and food is generic, easily available at most Japanese restaurants. We loved our shishito pepper infused mezcal, loved the kick. Though i don't think it qualified for $21 a glass. Soft shell crabs steamed buns were delicious though my friend found it saw. Our favorite was Hamachi crispy rice wasabi, soft hamachi over chewy rice cake... loved the texture. Least favorite was maitake mushrooms. We didn't regret visiting this place but I wish it offered more. read more

Great job on the person who designed the interior of this restaurant!! It's super trendy and I love the lounge area! We sat in the main dining room for brunch and our party shared all the entrees which was the recommendation. Had lychee Bellinis which were good but wish it had more of a lychee taste. SO onto the food! 1. Japanese skillet pancakes- fluffy but the egg taste was a bit overpowering 2. Banana French toast- my FAV! 3. Duck hash- pretty good but not what we had envisioned 4. Short rib- packed with flavor and it was slightly on the salty end Overall, a good meal but I wouldn't say it was spectacular! Would recommend to check out if you're in the SoHo area! read more
