KenScale: 8.0/10 I personally feel like New York City has too many natural wine bars, but over time my impression of natural wine has changed quite a bit mostly because I did try some pretty good ones without the distinctly funky taste that I hated so much when I tried the first natural wine. When I heard of another natural wine bar opening in West Village, my thought was "Urgh, how typical." But then I started hearing some good things about L'Accolade so I figured I could use this for a casual Friday dinner date with my wife Jun. Overall, it was a solid dinner. The menu at L'Accolade resembles that of a modern bistro in Paris, with French-centric dishes that are intended to go well with the wines. The restaurant has a la carte options as well as three-course options at $45 per person. We opted for the latter to try as many dishes as possible. For the starters, the Hamachi crudo with dashi and citrus was a solid one, although we would've liked a few more pieces. While I liked the touch of pomegranate sprinkled throughout the braised endive salad accompanied by chicories and walnut, the flavor of some parts of the vegetable was a bit too sour for my taste. The more successful dishes came from the main menu. Since we recently came back from a wonderful trip to Iceland, we were tempted to try the Icelandic cod with braised burdock, buckwheat and watercress that was quite delicious. Chicken, accompanied by petite vegetables and bacon, also displayed good texture and the seasoning was well-balanced. For the desserts, the concord grape and peanut accompanied by yuzu ice cream was solid, while the combination of spiced pear compote and vanilla parfait was a bit overpowered by the spice of cinnamon meringue. Getting a reservation at L'Accolade wasn't too difficult but the place filled out quickly on a Friday evening, so I do recommend booking in advance if possible. The charming modern bistro décor of the makes the restaurant a great option for a casual date night in West Village. Interestingly, the staff on our visit was mostly French. Our server gave us an opportunity to taste a couple of reds before we settled on a bottle from Languedoc, one of the regions that produces large quantity of natural wine, that was complex without the funky finish. The food at L'Accolade wasn't perfect but it was well-designed to eat alongside the wine. I was so happy to find this West Village neighborhood place that is NOT owned by Jody Williams.... While I love the food at Via Carota, Buvette and I Sodi, (and cocktails at Pisselino), the elitist attitude lately at these corporate restaurants has really turned me off (stopped by at 5 pm Sunday, and the brat at the door told me to check back at 11 pm!! TRUTH)......ok......now let's talk about L'accolade. Who knew you could actually chat with a nice bartender, drink delicious natural French wine and have good food on the same block as the other establishments I just mentioned. L'accolade has it all. Jacques was the loveliest, most welcoming barman. The owners are there to take your order and chat. The wine was delicious, most of them, small producers and biodynamic. We had happy hour snacks: gougeres; brussels sprouts w/ kimchi and apples and the BEST smashed potatoes w/ green goddess aioli. We moved on to delicious chicken liver mousse with shallots and braised endive. We were offered other wines that we were unfamiliar to try and loved them all. The hospitality at L'accolade blew us away. I guess I won't be eating my cacio e pepe at Via Carota anymore.....but this will do. Great little place, can't wait to come back and be welcomed. Yo this place was bomb they served us some French stuff I never even was able to pronounce but boy that food slapped. My table of 6 had got seated quick and our waiter was real attentive and friendly. Service was A1. He got us drinks fast I got the cinco de Mayo? (Question Mark was part of name) and it was that purfect Smokey flavor I wanted. The grub we got for apps was gnocchi it was good we got potatoes and those thing were unreal I'd put them right behind my moms pasticio as my favorite dish I had in a long time. We also got some thin sliced fished thing I would call it sashimi but because we at a French american resturant I think it called another thing and that fish was 10/10. Chef gave us compliantery frog legs which blew my mind cause who would thought buffo frog legs could be so good. We need a cultural change in America. No more buffalo wings we need to have frog legs I'm talking frog legs at football games frog legs at you nieces wedding frog legs at hooters. They were actually that good. For the mains we got duck(quack). And the was ducking good and not fatty and greasy. We got two servings of steak nice sized portions that came with a few sides some being beets and I wish I just had an extra plate of beets cause they couldn't have been cooked better. Then we got something else but I didn't get much of it cause my friends ate it like animals before i got to it but my friend said it was chicken and it was well. What a lovely spot and experience at l'accolade. This restaurant recently opened up in the west village and known for their french small plates and fantastic wine. There's a very nice outdoor space with great lighting in the back of the restaurant. We first sat out here until we were eaten alive by mosquitos and had to change indoors. L'accolade has a great happy hour - they have wine off and appetizers off. Our server was really nice and detailed about our menu. We ordered a variety of food. Highlights below: Cheese gougères - this was at every table and wow, this was good. It has jalapeño bites in them and it was freshly prepared. Very delicious and would recommend Grain salad - such a lovely way to start the meal. Lots of veggies over warm grains. Lightly seasoned and overall delicious Fluke crudo - light way to start the meal. Well prepared Duck entree - it's one of their more popular items. It's rich and fatty, paired with peas and a root vegetable Steak - the French prepare steak well. It was a good dish but not necessarily notable Their desert changes often but we opted for the panna cotta which wasn't too sweet and nutty. I truly wanted to love L'Accolade, but it was not to be. The cocktails are good. The small plates are good. The mains are very limited (only three) and not as good. The wines should be the stars of the show, but the staff really doesn't know much about the wine. Since L'Accolade showcases small production wineries, they need a staff that really understands the wines on their list. Excellent food and service at this fine french dining establishment. You are greeted by friendly staff and welcomed to your table. Most of the servers and bartenders speak French so it adds to the charm of the restaurant. The wine list is well thought out with options for varying price points. Our food came out relatively quickly. First the bread service followed by appetizers. I ordered the baby artichoke app and duck ragu papperdalle, which were so delicious I wanted to savor every single bite. The key lime Panna cotta dessert was good but nothing special. The menu changes with the seasons so the ingredients are always fresh. Do not hesitate to make a reservation. I plan to return soon. read more

What a gem! I stumbled upon this restaurant on a whim an had no idea what I was getting myself into. I went during off hours so it was not as packed, but from other reviews, it seems like you'd be better off making a reservation esp if going for dinner. The branzino I had from the brunch menu was not just fish. It was a work of art. It was so perfectly crispy on the outside and oh so soft on the inside. I also feel like it's easy to overly salt fish in general, but the branzino was just perfectly salted and it went so well with the sauce. The sauce that came with the branzino was spinach-based and heavenly, and I almost licked it off my plate. The staff were super friendly and personable too. They had covid precautions in place, which was nice to see and we sat inside for our meal. We both had the duck and I opted for the crudo appetizer. Like the others who visited before me, I am finding it difficult to land on a rating for L'Accolade. If I had it my way, I'd give it an 8.5 out of 10. Much of the experience was five stars, but some inconsistencies led me to ultimately settle on four. The product here is outstanding. A thoughtful, well-designed food menu that's executed to near-perfection and a wine list that is simply special. You'll find things you'd never expect to look for here and you'll love every minute of it. Your culinary wanderlust will be piqued and you may discovery new tastes you didn't know you had. But you may, like I was, be puzzled by the whole concept of service here. It's disorganized at the very least (read on). Still, L'Accolade proved to be a delightful experience overall--fun, unique, exciting, overall satisfying. And a perfect date spot--it's intimate but won't break the bank. Came here at 8:30pm on a Saturday night with the bf (who, for what it's worth, rated it five stars without blinking an eye). The aesthetic here is cute, simple, modern, industrial-chic. Exposed-brick walls are adorned with wine bottles from all around so it's kind of like a collection of the world's most unusual wine is giving everyone inside a big ole hug. Like many of the best West Village institutions, there's a coziness to L'Accolade that makes you want to curl up in it's energy and stay awhile. The energy, though, can find itself zinging in the complete opposite direction. This is where the service guessing game comes in. Upon sitting down, we did receive menus promptly. First step, done. Some moments went by as we studied the wine menu, but we still weren't helped. Finally someone came over to say that if we had any questions about the wine, ask him. While attempting to pose a question, he flitted away. He seemed to want to be in several places at once at all times. While he did help us with our wine choices throughout the evening (more on that later), it was not made clear by anyone that he would be our go-to guy for everything. Typically, a server will announce that they are, in fact, your server for the evening. We were left to guess and hope for the best. He did eventually ask us about food, but it almost seemed that he felt he was doing us a favor. We spent much of the evening trying to figure out the who's who here. While that could be a fun little game (depending on your perspective), it is job typically left up to the management, not the diners. I hope that this snag is worked out, because the rest of our experience here was an easy five stars. Our "server", while elusive and ill-defined, scored the highest of marks when it came to recommending wine. We each had three glasses over the course of the night, and he guided our little journey through the menu in such a way that we'd experience each wine in the way that each was meant to be experienced (i.e. wine "x" will come off like "y" if consumed after wine "z", which is not optimal, etc.). All of our wines were unique and delicious. Adventurous and complex, yet they still paired beautifully with our food. For all that was left to be desired in the service choreography arena, the choreography of the actual meal's flow was as good as it gets. We each had two whites and a red, all were fantastic. I won't go into each one--I just recommend trusting their judgment and taking some risks. They will be rewarded! Food-wise, the reports from all corners of the internet are accurate. We opted for the 2-course prix fixe ($36), which is a serious steal considering what you're getting. To get a standout meal in this neighborhood for this price is noteworthy. French-inspired (but without the heaviness of some French technique) menu with seasonal ingredients. Eats, below: Fluke Curdo w/ Grilled Leek, Sesame, Dashi: A+ Silky, pillowy perfection. Impeccably fresh, delicate and sophisticated. Beautifully presented and gone far too quickly. There's a reason this dish is attracting so much hype. Barbecued Carrot w/ Mustard, Country Ham: A+ They must have tinkered with the preparation of this after early reviews because there was nothing crude about this dish. A fantastic fall preparation, creative and super flavorful. Earthy and rich, seasoned beautifully. Duck w/ Crusted Parsnip, Cara Cara, Sage: A+ Another serious stunner, again one that comes with much public buzz attached. Perfectly cooked, endlessly satisfying (is that paradox adjacent?) and the accompaniments were total powerhouses. The parsnip, the greens, the citrus, all combined masterfully. Steelhead Trout w/ Heirloom Tomatoes, Plum, Kholrabi: A Less exciting than the duck but still fresh and delicious. Another well-presented dish, fresh and light, nicely balancing the duck, which was a bit heavier. Another excellent flavor profile, punctuated with delicate sweetness from the plum and the crispy decadence of the fish skin. I opted for the two course (appetizer and main) and got the duck and fluke crudo :). I struggle with my rating for this place. As a wine bar, they are stellar. 5/5. As a restaurant, is where this place becomes a bit murky. I rate a 2.75/5. I came here with a reservation on Friday night with my friend. We are both not huge eaters so we opted to order a course to share and added on an appetizer. It's so nice that they allow this - I wish more restaurants were open to this style of ordering. That being said it took them 30 minutes to get our food out from when we ordered. This isn't a place to go if you are hungry as you will be waiting a long time for your food. They only checked up on us when we started looking at the kitchen for our food. Everyone in the restaurant had the same wait times as us. Parisian gnocchi - mushroom sauce gnocchi. Not great. Not sure why this was so highly rated.. it was salty and meh. Barbecued carrots - this was probably my favorite dish of the night Duck - nicely prepared but nothing special. I didn't like the fruit they paired with it on the dish. Peach panna cotta - not worth the calories. Very tart and meh. However, the wine!! My friend and I ordered 4 glasses between the two of us and all the recommendations they gave were excellent. They brought us a few to try each time and even the funkier options were to my liking. I loved how friendly they were about tasting and asking preferences. It does seem they need more kitchen and wait staff though as it was hard to flag them down at times. All in all, I would consider grabbing wine here in the future but would not go out of my way to eat here. Oh, L'Accolade, I really wanted to love you. Unfortunately we didn't enjoy the happy hour options ($10 wine glass, red from Chile that night). We went for a $80 bottle of red wine from Perigord. Decent but expensive for the quality and vintage (2016). Food was good except it took 90mns to get four appetizers... well, 3, out of the kitchen, and the fourth one never came. Bread was very good and butter as well. The we decided to switch to desserts. Both delicious. $200 bills after tax and tip. And inevitably by the end of the night, you've found all of those points to be true AND you've become friends with them as well. That is L'Accolade. There is nothing on the menu that I would not try again. And again and again....The gem salad is truly a gem, the scallops were our favorite and we asked for even more bread to dip into the cod dish. Stopped into L'Accolade for happy hour on Thursday evening. They were just opening back up, but still had plenty of delicious wine options and a small and tasty food menu ready to go. Quality: With Manhattan buzzing with the recent full reopening, ended up at L'Accolade, which was in its first few days back open. They had limited menus because of the sudden change, but it was filled with more than enough wine and food options to choose from. To drink I went with the Judith Beck Rose Pink, which was a fruity and refreshing wine. And as a snack I selected the Beef Tartare. Served with rice crackers, the tartare had good texture and flavor. I don't think it is an item they usually have available, but it is one they should consider making a permanent fixture. Quantity: No issues with the wine pours and the Beef Tartare was a nice snack. Value: $13-$20 for a Glass of Wine. $17 for the Beef Tartare. Ambiance: L'Accolade is located in the West Village of Manhattan. They have set up a beautiful outdoor dining area in front of the restaurant and also have a quaint and lush back patio. I chose to sit at the small bar inside, which takes up the front area of the space. It is a long space with plenty of tables stretching to the back. Even with the sun still out, the inside area has dim lighting, creating a romantic atmosphere. Throughout the space plants and wine bottles are on display, and a fantastic lofi mix of music played in the background. Crowd: A few folks sitting outside and one other person at the bar. I overheard a few people walking by excitedly saying hello to the host and expressing surprise in seeing them open. Service: I visited just as they reopened, so they had a full house of staff getting up to speed. However, other than seeing a few extra people floating around, it had no impact on the speed or quality of service. Parking: Extremely limited street parking across the area. read more

We absolutely ADORE this place!!! I saw it on Resy when researching restaurants for a dinner with friends from Denmark and booked it. Our entire experience was superb. The menu included a variety of dishes, and unlike many restaurants with prix-fix menus, they don't require the entire table to order the same dishes. Therefore, we each got to order what we wanted and shared family style. Each dish was beautifully presented and as tasted as delicious as they appeared. I planned a Friday date night here with my fiancé and unfortunately had to miss the reservation because of emergency surgery. The restaurant still charged me and said they are unable to waive any fees. I asked them if I could use the charge towards my next dinner there and they wouldn't allow it. Out of courtesy, I had called 1 hour prior to arrival, to shift my reservation time knowing that we would be a little late. We arrived within 15 minutes of our 6:45pm reservation and your asshole French host 'Fred' refused to seat us when there was a table for 2-4 clearly available. We still waited, as others were seated inside, and we waited longer than his estimated wait time. So I naturally asked for an update as to when we would be seated 15 minutes later. Meanwhile that table outside still stood empty. He proceeded to make us wait until another 2 tables outside cleared and then tried to take us to a table that did not suit our party. I made a request to be seated elsewhere and that did not agree with him. I clearly had a dog and a SERVICE dog at that... I explained to him I needed a table on the street patio with a barrier I could tie him to. There were now 2 tables of that description available but he gave it to another party that showed up after us. Your guy Fred blew up, cut me off and told me he didn't want to deal with me and would never serve me again. Apparently what we were served was arrogance, incompetence, and a haughty attitude. All the way from Marseille. Is this French hospitality because this is certainly not how I have ever been treated in my 14 years of dining and living in manhattan?! Small biz restaurants like this one must not be struggling through COVID restrictions if they can afford to practice Napoleon complexes and rudely turn away business. Had a good time reconnecting with fellow dinner club friends and made couple of new friends. While reconnecting this was the dinner lineup. The dishes were good but some were misses on flavor. Chicken Liver Pâté with persimmon, crispy shallot, and herbs. This was really good. I'm not much of a pâté person but this was realy, really good! It was very light and airy with a slight citrus flavor. Braised Chicories with walnut, pomegranate, and parmesan salad. This was a tasty salad with layers of flavor. Citrus Cured Snapper with fermented chili and nori. The presentation was great with a rice paper cover thay was broken up to scoop up the dish. However this dish could've used a little more flavor. Appeared the snapper wasnt cured long enough. Monkfish en Papillote with cauliflower, green curry, and almond. The fish on our table was overcooked, the green curry lacked flavor and had no kick to it. The mushroom was raw and not seasoned . Braised Beef Paleron with herbed celery root, wild mushrooms, and red wine. This was good and looked like chocolate cakes when they landed on the table. Top notch! All employees are friendly, warm, welcoming and accommodating. We walked in hoping to grab a table without a reservation (which in the current NYC climate is unheard of). They were more than happy to figure out a spot for us. Every item we ordered from the menu was outstanding. We asked for a wine recommendation, which was spot on. To eat, we ordered the vegetable toast, the artichoke, and the duck and shared it between us. The duck was truly the best duck I've ever had in my life. If Oxalis were a French restaurant this would be it. One of the best meals I've had in a while. Stumbled on it by accident from Resy and keeping it on the list. Excellent space with strategically placed sound buffers. Wonderful selection of wines (just ask for the sommelier) and really careful attention to the execution of the dishes without getting overly creative. Duck breast was one of the best I've had yet simple in its preparation. Mushroom toast was layered with perfectly just-crisp mushrooms that were still somehow buttery. Even the baguette was warm. The food is french and they do have a happy hour with small plates and glasses of wine. We have been here for dinner twice and the food has been great both times. The interior is beautiful and small. They do take reservations. There is a bar area and then a seated area behind. The only downside is only 2 bathrooms and there is sometimes a line for them. 4.5 rounded down. The natural wine was what drew me here, but the food deserves to be shouted about as well. L'Accolade is a gorgeous restaurant, from the interior design to the food itself to the plates. I sat at the bar with a friend for happy hour and the service was attentive even when the restaurant was busy. I had the house white wine to start. Other house options included red, sparkling, and rose. There is a noticeable difference between this natural wine (minimal chemicals) and regular wine that we are used to drinking. The flavor is grapey-er. Normally when I have wine, I get an ache in my neck, but I didn't experience that with this wine. Win for me! We took advantage of the happy hour menu to try the crushed potatoes, crispy raclette, and cheddar gougeres. Plus the gnocchi which was not on the HH menu. Each dish came out beautifully presented. I want all of these plates for my own kitchen! My favorite were the crushed potatoes. Skin was crispy on the outside but potato was soft on the inside. The creme frasische accompaniment was perfect with these potatoes! Cheddar gougere was also delicious. Basically like a cheese puff, but not overly salty. Crispy raclette and gnocchi were good, but forgettable. The bigger plates looked interesting, and the small plate + main option seems like a great deal, but we were pretty full at that point. I'd definitely come back for the wine and to try more dishes! Would definitely recommend this place, especially for happy hour. read more

We have been for dinner twice, and each meal was outstanding. The fluke crudo starter is delicious and creative; the recipe had changed between our first and second visits, and both were great. We also had the "Warm Grains" appetizer which (at least in September) had more depth of flavor and body than the menu description would suggest. The Arctic char entree was yummy and the fish was perfectly cooked. Even better was the chicken breast which, on our September visit, was literally everything you would want from such a dish: moist meat with crispy skin, great flavor, supported by a white bean fricasee that made the dish feel at once fancy and like comfort food. And definitely order a side of the crushed potato; you won't be sorry. Our only complaint is about the service, which is uneven--though consistently friendly. On our first visit, there appeared to be three different hosts; eventually it became clear that the table was not ready, so they offered us a spot in a corner and some wine, and 15 minutes later we were seated. Things felt slightly more organized on the second visit. But everyone we have interacted with is incredibly friendly, which at least balances out the occasional sense of confusion. This one definitely deserves the accolades! Pretty crowded on a Saturday night at 6, but the staff was great and eventually got us seated in the window. They offered us tastes and we really enjoyed the interesting wine options. The fiancé liked the chicharrones, although the radishes were good, albeit a bit bland. The celery root soup with smoked trout, roe, and hazelnuts was incredible. I'd definitely come back for a full meal! And to try more wine. read more
