I love L'Amico. The atmosphere is nice, spacious with comfortable seating and pleasant staff, but there are a few things that could be better. First off, I don't recommend their pizza delivery. their pies are too thin and are soggy when delivered, their pizza is good but it must be enjoyed in the restaurant. They usually have great cocktails, and a very good Americano and amazing deserts. The service at L'Amico is almost always very good, and if I've ever had to wait a while for anything is because they were jammed packed. The wait time is always reasonable and staff is pleasant. My biggest complain is that they modified their oven baked egg dish and includes sausage now, leaving vegetarians with no oven baked eggs for brunch. I know they have other delicious brunch options but their oven baked eggs were my favorite for years, please give vegetarians an option with no sausage in their tomato sauce! read more

Can't get enough of this place. Went twice this week since discovering. Wednesday night had the arugula salad with artichokes and fava beans and the dessert pistachio torta. Been enjoying this regular neighborhood restaurant but today the hostess ruined our lunch even before we started. Got there at 1:20pm and it was half empty. She apparently didn't want to accommodate us by the window and then also gave me the incorrect last call as 2:15pm for lunch which is 2:30pm indeed. Almost left but changed the mind because of the attentive waiter Jack. On a slow Monday lunch time, the hostess decided to mistreat the regular customers is not healthy practice for the business. What a great spot! We were comfortably seated at a window and it felt very cozy. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. The wine list was amazing. CACIO E PEPE FRITTELLA was a fried provolone dolce, with parmesan cream, which was wonderful. We ordered antipasti - BURRATA was super fresh with english pea & arugula pesto, purple radish, lemon. Also the ambiance was fantastic - it has fantastic lighting, the kitchen opens up to the tables and generally well done. So if I could rate it on that alone.. I'd give it 5 stars. The way we were treated is an experience I've never had. I've never asked to speak to a manager and always try to be empathetic to people in the service industry. We had a reservation at 9:45.. we walk in somewhere between 9:51-9:53. First thing from the hostess telling us very rudely they're closed.. after we tell her we have a reservation she goes to the back and comes out to begrudgingly seat us. We get our menus. The waitress comes over after a few minutes and tells us (rudely) we have 2 minutes to order because the kitchen closes.. we do. Then she (rudely) says it's last call and to order all the drinks we need.. we do. At this point I'm just perplexed to be treated this way.. like why take a reservation at 9:45 if you're going to be a-holes to people and rush them at 9:58? So someone walks by that looks like the manager. I stop him.. he's not but he goes and gets his manager.. This guy comes over - I explain the situation and he interrupts me saying we got there at 9:55 (which wasn't true but whatever). It becomes clear he's the one with the attitude that has trickled down to the staff. Condescending and difficult. Gets flustered in our conversation and mid sentence walks away... then doesn't take a drink off the bill, offer desert, barely apologizes.. horrible experience. We still left 20% tip bc I didn't want to stiff the individuals that depend on that so instead I'm leaving this review to call out the horrible experience. Don't take people at a time you don't want them.. and if you don't treat them like inconveniences. I've been here a few times before but don't plan on doing so again. read more

On a recent visit we meet family here for dinner. I selected it because it was close to our hotel and available at the time we wanted. Imagine my delight when I discovered I'd been here before, pre-pandemic and loved it. The staff was friendlier than I recalled and we felt welcomed, more so than in many midtown restaurants. We ate at an outdoor table, covered by huge umbrellas which protected us from a sprinkle. The staff checked on us to make sure we weren't getting wet and offered to reseat us indoors. No need, we were having a great time as-is. We shared fish, corn, Brussel sprout salad, burrata; my granddaughter had the ravioli. Everything was fantastic, the flavors rich, the combination perfect. Except for the small ravioli portions ( maybe 5 for $$) the portions were exactly right. The sauce on the fish was fantastic on the corn, I'd order these two plates again (and again!) Dessert was very good, a creme brûlée with their own twist and a sundae with a deliciously light cookie. read more

We sat outdoors with the plexiglass partition between neighboring tables. We ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes($18), Mozzarella di Bufala Pizza ($21), and the skirt steak ($35). The pancakes and pizza was hands down my favorite - can't decide which one I liked more because I wanted more of both. The pancakes were fluffy while the pizza was very light and airy. Deliciousness in each bite. The skirt steak included ceci verde & ramp puree, shelling beans, anchovy pesto. At $35, I was not impressed - it was mediocre I would totally pass next time. The food here is amazing! We shared an appetizer of grilled octopus which was tender and delicious. We then shared two pizzas from their wood burning oven. The white mushroom pizza was amazing. Delicious mushrooms and truffle paste with fontina cheese. Then we had a classic margarita pizza with fresh tomatoes and mozzarella. So delicious! My friend and I came here for a Sunday late afternoon lunch. We got the salmon pizza and it was incredibly indulgent and delicious. The crust was perfectly thin, crispy, and had the perfect amount of char. The smoked salmon was delicious and not too salty. The pizza was also topped with lots of micro greens that were refreshing paired with the delicious salmon and vcream cheese. I highly recommend asking for the spicy oil on the side. It added an additional layer of flavor that complemented the pizza well. We paired our salmon pizza with some orange wine. This was the first time we both tried it and it was really delicious! They had a lot of other wines and cocktails on the menu to choose from as well. The brunch menu looked good! If I am in the area I will definitely be checking out this place again. Been passing by this place on my way to and from work for a year now and always wanted to visit. Finally got the chance one Saturday evening when we were looking for last minute dinner plans before a Broadway show. Walked in at 6pm without a reservation. Located inside a nice hotel, next to "Second" Restaurant. The space was half empty, but apparently everything inside was reserved. The hostess was nice to notify us that we could take a table inside, but have to leave at 7 once guests who reserved it would show up. We said that we'll likely be done by 7:15-7:30. After a minute hesitation, we were seated. (The couple who reserved the table showed up at 6:55, and they were seated at a nearby table. We were never asked or bothered regarding that). There is indoor and outdoor seating. Indoor is fancier, while outdoor is simpler and much more loud, as you'll be dining on one of the busiest, most crowded streets of the city. We chose the cozy, dimly lit, more intimate indoor seating. Definitely felt a bit upscale. Good for a special occasion, a nice date, or a fancy outing with friends & family. The only complaint we had about our experience was the service, which was extremely slow. Before we ordered, our waitress checked in with us around four times [we were having a hard time deciding]. But once we finally ordered, it took around 15 minutes to get our food. Was it the kitchen that had a problem with making one pizza? When we wanted to order more, we had to look for our waitress for a long while. Which was a trend for our entire evening here. Our waitress was busy, the place was filling up, and our entire meal was stretched out beyond reason because we couldn't get a hold of staff to help us. Felt frustrating because we kept looking at the clock, as we had a show to attend afterwards. Not a very relaxing experience. The dinner menu options were surprisingly sparse. My bf and I were at loss for what to get, as we weren't in the mood for pasta dishes [which consisted of a good portion of the menu]. We went with that night's special for pizza (mushroom and sweet sausage), white mushroom pizza ($23), and a side of cauliflower ($11). The special pizza was tasty and fragrant [yaaay for truffle oil]. Had wild mushrooms, sweet sausage, and mozzarella chunks. White pizza--no sauce, which would've been helpful in this case, to make the pizza less dry. Didn't feel like that was worth $24. The white mushroom pizza with sage and fontina was definitely our favorite. White pizza as well, but it was juicier than the special pizza. The truffle paste on top of bountiful mushrooms was a perfect touch. Very fragrant and delicious. The side of cauliflower baked with capers and pecorino cheese was the meal highlight. So simple, yet one of the best cauliflower renditions I've ever had. The cauliflower was tender, not overcooked or too charred. It was baked in pecorino, topped with capers, which gave a perfect salty-golden taste to the typically bland vegetable. Definitely worth a try--you won't find something like it elsewhere. Pretty big portion for a side. Good to share. Will fill you up. Dessert looked amazing, but unfortunately we didn't have time to try it, we were afraid to be late for our show and the services has been very slow the entire evening, so we didn't want to risk it. Definitely would want to return to try the dessert though. Probably during brunch, when the menu seems more extensive. Overall, pleasant ambiance and potentially nice experience, which unfortunately felt rushed due to super slow service. Prices are higher than reasonable for the portions and the food, but you're in midtown Manhattan, smack center touristy spot, so be prepared. read more

Reserved a time on open table and arrived as scheduled, although my companion was running late I was still seated. Waiters were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and recommended items after I asked some questions. I got the Pipe Rigate, Veal shoulder bolognese and parmesan. The veal was grounded into the sauce mixed with the pasta. The tomato sauce itself was a bit sour/acidic but not too bad. The pasta was al dente and the portion was not generous for $27. This was one the best meals I had in NY this year, hands down. Everything was solid. Just look at the pictures. I used to walk by this a lot, and always would be entranced by the oven blazing away. The kitchen is just feet from the tables. Glad I finally tried it and it far exceeded expectations. Had the pizza and tried the pasta too, and both were top notch. Came here at 2pm today (08/01/2023) and got indirectly denied service. Seriously considering talking to legal counsel about this. I (Asian-American man) was seated at a table with a friend (Indian-American man), and we intended to get drinks. Waited for over 30 minutes and had to ask twice to get the attention of a server (the place was not busy, about 30% full). All of the white customers around us were getting served. Eventually after several asks, the server eventually came and we ordered two drinks, but 5 minutes later we told to move to the bar because "we didn't order food" and tables are for "food only". Bar was full and there was no seating, but server said that it was policy so we couldn't sit despite all of the empty seats. Had an amazing dinner here on a Tuesday night after work. Fortunately we had a reservation - every table was full. The restaurant is connected to a hotel but also has its own entrance. Very convenient location near Herald Square subways, PATH train, and just a few blocks from Penn station. There are some outdoor seats but most tables are indoors. The tables are close together but the high ceilings prevent it from being too noisy. The menu changes slightly seasonally and is friend who had been here for both lunch and dinner before said it's still always very good. Everything we ate was phenomenal! Burrata app (melts in your mouth!), grilled octopus app (perfectly tender with good flavor and nice heat from the sauce), we each had the blackened scallops entree (blackened on one side but perfectly tender/juicy throughout) and shared the charred cauliflower side. Almost skipped dessert but the dessert menu was too tempting... was surprised with a candle in my Chocolate Torta della Nonna for my birthday! It was a larger portion than expected, with a crunchy baked top and a dollop of frangelico crema on top, yummy chocolate underneath without being overly sweet or overly rich. They were light and refreshing and not too sweet. We did family style and shared everything (as I always do whenever possible): - Pasta: We got the Pipe Rigate (veal shoulder bolognese, parmesan), Tortiglioni (spicy sausage, bitter greens, pignoli, pecorino sardo) and they were so good! I asked for a quieter table - we were having a business meeting (and prices are not low) but no dice. The food was variable. My prosciutto was great, but then that doesn't require any cooking. I ordered the campanelle with mushrooms but it was so salty that I had to send it back (and I never do that); I got the raviolini instead, which were very good, but they were served under a vinaigrette, which was just weird. The French describe value as the relationship between quality and price, so I'd have to say the value was disappointing. Surely for $50-$60 a person for lunch we can all do better. read more
