Hi, it's me again! VP Nail Care has proven to be the best nail salon in the LA area (imo). It's close to where I live, affordable, they always do a great job, they really care about the time and effort that goes into each service, there is free wifi, clients now have the option to either pay with Venmo, Pay Pal or the what was once standard, cash. They still have the ATM that does not have a service charge, however it is noted that depending on the bank you're associated with, you could end up with one on your statement. I really like how there are various ways of payment now. I have paid two times through Venmo and it was so easy! Don't forget that tips must be made in cash! Since I didn't have time to stop by my bank's ATM before arriving to my appointment, I already knew I was going to have to pull money out of the ATM there. Every employee at VP Nail Care is awesome! Vincent is my favorite when I get pedicures. Tracy, Michelle, Rona and Lily (owner) are all super kind and easy to talk to :) You will not be disappointed if you stop by here :) always try to call in ahead to see if they can schedule you in, but walk-ins are also welcome!! P.S. Other services are also provided like waxing, which I have seen some of their clients go in for, but I personally have not tried them. read more

Honestly, the BEST place for nails. Lilly & Michelle are the absolute sweetest! I've been going to this shop for the past year or so & I'm in love! In addition to the incredible nail work, gel policy, and sweet employees, they are very respectful on your appointments! They will NEVER tell you to go in if they are very busy & unable to attend you (unlike many other places). Also, the gel work here is off the charts! My nails have never ever ever chipped and have always lasted AT LEAST 3 weeks, if not longer. Check out my picture below. This is a regular pedicure that I got for my wedding on September 2nd (done by Vincent) and look @ how good they still look!! Almost 2 months now and no chips! Best work ever! Had a great gel manicure here this morning. I made an appointment, but it wasn't busy at all when I arrived (I guess weekday mornings aren't prime manicure times!). As others have mentioned, It's a very small shop, with room for about 10 clients. It doesn't have the typical massage chair/ foot soak setup, either. You sit in a comfy chair with pillows and your hands and feet are soaked in bowls/ tubs, which still gets the job done, and the arm massage I got after my manicure was enough to make me forget about a clunky massage chair! The price of a gel French tip seemed reasonable - came out to $38 I believe - and Michelle did great work. She was friendly and meticulous! Bonus - it's right next door to Europane, so you can get your coffee and croissant fix right after! That's my plan for next time, at least... read more

First time here. After being double booked, at a different location, I was left scrambling to find somewhere to go and came in as a walk in. I was greeted well, and was told to come back in half an hour which I did. I expected more from the solid four star rating. The inside is bit run down. There are no massage chairs or spa chairs for pedicure. The guy who did my pedicure was pleasant enough but the woman who did my manicure was a bit rude and abrasive. I was not expecting that. She didn't do a good job of filing my nails and filed them away too short. She also filed part of my cuticles. Some of the nail polish are on my cuticles. I went in for the first time today and it was great! I didn't get the name of the girl who was helping me but everyone there was really helpful. I came in with a reference picture for some Halloween nails and they told me they could do the design. As my girl started working on them she was having a little bit of trouble getting the bats correct and immediately got some help to make sure they were like the reference I showed. To be honest, $29 for a gel mani isn't bad. I've paid $35 & higher for a mediocre job that I have been so unhappy with. $3 extra for the heart but it's a cute touch. The guy that did my nails, took his time, was beyond patient and trimmed my cuticle beyond perfect! Totally worth it. I came here because my usual spot was full and not taking any more appointments for the day and I was able to walk in and get my nails done very quickly. There's a paid parking lot in the back or you can try your luck with street parking. They only take cash or Venmo which was not inconvenient at all, especially with the Venmo option. I also like how they have tip baskets, which makes leaving tip a lot easier. Upon entering I was a little surprised to see the set up. It's not what I'm used to as it was very very basic. Just a couple of chairs arranged in an open room. They do not have massage chairs here but it was still comfortable. It did feel a little odd with the use of a small plastic tub to put my feet in but hey, as long as they get the job done?? I got a gel mani and a pedi and left pretty happy with the results. This is a great little gem I didn't even know existed until I did my research. I brought my friend here to get our nails done for his birthday and overall it was a good experience. The nail technicians, while not overtly friendly, were professional and the space was clean. They were also nice about my friend showing up a few minutes late after we made an appointment. I would go back to get a basic gel manicure done. My friend got a marble pattern but it's already chipping while my more simple nail has stayed intact. read more

Disappointed. My nails looked absolutely horrible and the gel manicure didn't last with the sides rising. It was also bumpy and air bubbles because the nail lady was in a rush doing my nails. My usual to go to girl was off at my nail salon so I came here based off of the reviews. Honestly, I was beyond disappointed. I made an appointment and still had to wait. The girl didn't understand what I wanted and another girl had to step in to do it. I got a pedicure and gel manicure and it was $68!!! I usually pay $42 at my nail salon. This wasn't the worst part. The next day they started chipping. Gel nail polish will usually last me 2-3 weeks with no chipping, but for it to chip over night. Lily, Kim, and Jay have all done my gel mani and pedi at some point and I have always been satisfied with their work. I have never had any problems with making an appointment the same day, they have accommodated me to whenever they have an available hour. I do recommend calling and making an appointment. Although it says walk-ins are welcome, I have seen people being told to come back later in the day, which is what I like because they rather be honest then have you wait or rush their work with their current client. I wish there were massage chairs but they have always attended me quick so I forget about wanting a massage chair as my attention starts focusing on the work they are doing on my nails. read more

Before I start my review I should clear up a mythical "highlight" of this place: they don't offer beverages and they don't give free massages. Either that or the review is outdated and/or they're the Asian equivalent of an "Uncle Tom" i.e. One who caters to those who are not their racial ethnicity and treat those who are racially similar, poorly (in this case despite the fact that I tip better than anyone I've seen while I've been here). I really wanted to like this place as evidenced by my prior review. I have always left a 20%+ tip for my nail techs, and still left a tip despite my injury. I had just touched down after a 20 hour plane ride from a fourth world country (where I also was in a habit of charitable tipping/straight up giving, which likely explains why I was still in tip mode, even after the injury I received) with serious jet lag but it has been 3 weeks since my last manicure and my nails grow at an exponential rate so I needed a manicure badly ASAP. For the first time I had Michelle do my nails (who I know from the reviews on here, is the owner). If you have her, I highly recommend requesting someone else. It's likely she will troll this review in defense - but there is no defense for the carelessness I will describe below. Due to the fact that I was so exhausted/jet lagged, and the fact that the human body releases natural "pain killers" the moment it experiences pain, I did not mind too much at the time that she somehow managed to bleed flesh above the cuticle of my left pinky - twice. She went over it roughly and bled it by blunt force of the edge of the nail filer...I've been told my skin is really soft by one of the ladies there that did my manicure the first time...and when you apply liquid to it, the skin softens even further...the pinky is also small so it should have been handled with some care at least after the first injury. I appreciated how she applies silk wraps really well - her younger associate's technique was to cut exactly just the length of the breakage so once gel was applied there was a square "bump" that appeared. Michelle applies it entirely in the shape of the nail. She is really meticulous with each nail and does this crazy-person eye "flashing" thing when she's trying to focus...it obviously did not help. I was here for 2 rather than the average 1 hour I've had with more complicated manis here or elsewhere (mind you, there's only 1 hour parking nearby). She also crookedly files your nail too much on your right side (if you scroll photos another reviewer mentions this too). Therefore, while the injury to my pinky was not in any way intentional - it was a bit thoughtless considering she bled it not once...but twice? I think that maybe she should throw the towel in and leave it to the younger women after teaching them how to properly apply a silk wrap. Maybe it's the quality of her eyesight, dwindling with age, and the fact that she seems out of touch with others' pain tolerance. Michelle is very unskilled with the final hand massage - not enough pressure (lol) so she applied lots of unnecessary pressure with the rigorous filing just on my pinky...everywhere else was ok...but her hand massages are quick & weak? What brought me over the edge to update my review was not that she executed a perfectly good manicure all around which was spoiled by blood on a booboo'd pinky...it was her clear dishonesty. I had just come back from a country where sellers would lose business entirely - all because they needed to get that $1 over you...they'd rather lose a lifetime of sustained loyalty well over thousand$. For the silk wrap (not knowing I knew she was the owner) she said "it's extra, $3 or $4 I don't know" (laughs)...and I'm thinking, how could you not know, it's your business? An hour elapses and she, a guy and a female nail tech exchange words in Vietnamese and it's $5 each wrap...I'm not in the mood to argue or be confrontational due to the aforementioned jet lag...and just deducted the difference in her tip which was the smallest tip I've ever given (about 8%). This AFTER the injury is what led me to NEED to update my review. My coworker told me that my manicure isn't even that complicated and her manicurist charges her a flat $5 for designs rather than per nail - my second job here (see, prior review) was $20 and this basic glitter ombre was $10 (consider how proportional to their $28 gel mani this arbitrary cost is). Yes, they tell you prices beforehand and I didn't mind until I learned better. It's like they think you won't find out or know better. Well, I found out and they've lost out on a lot of money (gel mani+pedi with occasional designs and 20% tip every 3 weeks for a lifetime) just to run some fast ones on me because I'm nice. 2 young girls do exceptional work here. I recommend they take out a loan from friends, family and an institution and start their own salon with better talent and integrity because they definitely are very talented. read more

My gels look perfect, I mean PERFECT. I am someone who can find something wrong with ever manicure I've ever gotten and I can't with Steve's. Shape, gel, brand (gellish) everything. He also to me they use gel remover instead of acitone to remove gel that doesn't hurt your nails or take as long. I'm considering driving from N Hollywood to come here from now on. In addition everyone is soooo nice, kind, willing to do your whole pedicure over if you decide you don't like the color. Lily did a great job on my glitter-gel pedi!! ($38 before tip) She is very good, gentle and accommodating. Her husband is so sweet and runs the desk. Her brother and sister do nails also there. It's all family and the vibe is so calm (because of this? Or because there's balance of male/female energy??) I really relaxed!! --sadly there's no spa chairs but comfortable side chairs with tables beside. They will make multiple trips to the back to get your foot-bath temp just right. ;-) It's very clean and they pay for parking! -Bring cash for tips!! But they take cards for payment. I couldn't decide which glitter I liked for my dark blue polish. Lily put different colors on three nails so I could pick! How awesome is that!? I had her do dark burgundy/purple glitter at the tips that graduates down the nail. I am very happy with it! --funny thing I read in another review and then noticed while there today, they only speak English in front of the customers (though they're Vietnamese) and it occurred to me how that constant chatter of all the women at other salons is sort of a stress factor I tune out. But here it was just super-mellow and friendly interacting with clients, no banter between the family/staff. Hurray for yelp! I love nail designs and thanks to my fellow yelpers I found the right artist! Lily! So, I called in around 11 on a Saturday and requested a 3pm appt and luckily Lily was available. Lily worked on my hands while a male employee worked on my feet. Both were efficient. Lily totally understood what I wanted when I showed her my "ideal" manicure picture. We tried different colors, she was knowledgeable and helpful. My nails look amazing. This business is very yelp-oriented. Lily showed me pictures from Yelp. Some other customers were talking about yelp too. One thing *CASH ONLY* They have an ATM inside without a fee charge but the bank may charge you a fee. THEY DO NOT HAVE ACRYLLIC!!!!! Only regular nail polish and gel. It makes the atmosphere a lot cleaner and less noisy. For pedicures, they have plastic foot bath bins they bring to you, lined with plastic. Not the massage chair/foot jacuzzi things. For manicures you soak your hands in little pet food tin bowls lol. It works. I think this place is very clean. The techs are great. It's small, so I would advise making an appt since I saw several people had to come back at a later time. Parking is kind of tough, but Lily had the male employee check if my tires had been marked at the 1hr street spot (it wasn't!) But it was so thoughtful and I totally appreciated it. In total, my shellac manicure with cool designs and my cool pedicure came out to $60 but it was completely worth it. Not too bad either! The design was $15 extra. I've never written a review for a nail salon because I've never been that impressed. It used to all be the same to me...paying way too much to get mediocre nails that I knew would last maybe a week while feeling like all the employees were talking about me and having to explain why I didn't have a boyfriend. Until I was introduced to VP Nails... Decently acceptable prices especially compared to other places in Pasadena. Friendly, professional, and experienced staff. Large color selection between gel and regular polish (a lot of OPIs and Essie). After 25 days and me cutting my own nails, the gel polish is still holding strong. I cut my own nails about 4 days ago thinking that would start making them chip and peel off. Nope! Although one of my favorite things is peeling off the gel polish (Yes, I know it's not good for my nails), it's definitely outweighed by my amazement about how well they did it. The gel would start lifting on the edges by 1 week or less at every place I've had it done before. No acrylics. No massage chairs. No credit cards, but there's an ATM machine inside. When I walked in, they seated me right away on some very comfy couches. Offering me an extra pillow and some water. They had a great selection of colors to choose from. Steve was very quiet and shy, but kept asking me to check my nails as he went on. I got a gel French manicure for $35. It turned out phenomenal and I was so happy that it looked as good as it did. The only thing is that I got a white French gel mani and if you look at the photo I posted closely, the white tip is a little blotchy. Theres parts of it that's almost translucent. Seeing as I paid an extra $8 for the white French tip (and another $8 for the gold glitter line), I was disappointed that the French tip was so blotchy. Its not a big deal and doesn't bother me too much but ive just never had one like that? is this normal people? CONS: -It's pricier than most salons I've been to (for instance: French pedi in Monterey Park is $15 versus $20 VP Nail Care) -It's cash only -Parking on weekdays is a pain- either get a hard-to-find limited time spot on the street or pay for the parking lot above the business -Very busy! Be sure to make an appointment ahead of time if you don't want to wait. PROS: -Parking is free in the lot on the weekends -No acrylics done at this salon, which means the carcinogenic chemicals are limited here (One can actually breathe!) -Very friendly, professional staff- they all wear uniforms -They guarantee their gel work for 10 days, so if anything chips or peels off within that time, you can come back and they will fix it for free -For gel manicures, they use the OPI LED Lamp Cure Light, which means NO SKIN DAMAGE! Other shops will use UV lights that are bad for your skin, adding to sunspots, wrinkles, premature aging and (worst case scenario) melanoma. -Gel removal is free if you're replacing it with another gel mani (other places charge for removal, no matter what) Lily (owner) is a great technician- friendly and funny- but my favorite is Q. She works a little on the slow side but the fact that she takes her time is what makes her work so great. She's very meticulous. I highly recommend this shop! read more
