For reference, I was only a TEENAGER when I wrote the following: I went back to this place after the owner, Ben, asked me to revise my previous review and played the "the nail techs haven't seen this review yet" card. I was hopeful, coming back, expecting a more satisfying experience than last, but that was not the case. I won't go into detail in case my review will be asked to be taken down again. Long story short, Salon 815 never seems to be prepared for walk-ins. I do not want to continuously hear "make an appointment". If that is the case, please label this salon as appointment only. The wait time for a walk-in is ridiculous. Not only that, but the colors are very limited (for gel). 2 stars for the nail techs because they are extremely kind and mean well. I know none of this is their fault. I just think the salon as a whole could do a lot better if they really want regulars. But there are a lot of other and better options in the West Portal area if you feel the same as me. Don't let the fancy interior fool you! read more

Trusting a new salon with your hair is always nerve racking and unfortunately I did not have a great experience. I walked into Salon 815 only to be told my appointment was next door at Bloom which is a blowout only place. This was not communicated in my appointment notice or anywhere online. Nothing horrible just an odd first impression. Next, I was greeted by a friendly front desk person while I waited for my stylist, Serena. At first, Serena was cordial asking my name and shaking my hand. I sat down in her chair and she didn't say anything so I just started describing what I wanted to do with my hair. It's not what she said but how she said it. I asked for two inches and she immediately was like well if you want that much off it'll be more like 3 inches in a pretty sharp tone. Then, she starts calling my current haircut disjointed and says it doesn't look good. This was loudly enough so the people next to me could hear what she was saying. After that she goes on to just nit picking my hair and saying how damaged it is. The rest of the haircut is awkward and I am just quiet at this point because it's embarrassing to have someone pick you apart like that. Overall I felt embarrassed and vulnerable after my haircut. You go to the salon to feel good about yourself not to be picked apart. There are kinder and softer ways to say things. I think this may just be her personality but even so, it's a pretty rude first encounter with a customer. She came off as patronizing and demeaning. While this does not reflect the salon as a whole, it does reflect their choice in how they service their customers with what stylists they choose. I hope both Serena and this salon do better next time but it won't be with me because I will not be going back. Ben, the owner was kind enough to reach out and remedy the situation. Krista brings top-notch skills to our neighborhood here in West Portal. She excels at managing my thick, 70% grey hair, delivering stylish, cool-toned colors that look natural for a dark brunette (now going grey) like me. My hair tends to run on the warmer side and she's technically savvy when it comes to balancing and removing the brass. But what really makes visits special is her ability to make time fly by with her engaging personality. It's rare to find someone who combines professional expertise with such a welcoming atmosphere. Barbara gave me a sweet medium bob this week, and it's just what I wanted! She has a sweet and welcoming demeanor. Upon my arrival, she showed me to my seat, and to where I can place my belongings. Then she washed my hair in a comforting warm temp (A+ for the hair wash, because she didn't tickle my ear w water nor did she splash water on my face). She's very detail oriented, and spent about an hour cutting my hair. She noticed the photo I gave her had bangs, which I'm not a fan of. So she gave me longer "curtain bangs" so I can achieve the look, and still be able to sweep it behind my ears and out of my face. After the haircut, Barbara even gave me tips on how to blow dry my hair so I can maintain the style! I'm very satisfied w my cut & so happy to have found my new hairdresser :) read more

Don't waste even your time booking an appointment here. The worst salon ever. I booked 3 appointments with them, the first one was for haircut and highlights and 5 min before my appointment they canceled it on me. On the same day I booked a haircut appointment for my husband and as soon as he got there they said the stylist I booked it with doesn't cut men's hair (didn't have men's haircut option on the online booking). I wanted to give them one more chance and I showed up to my nail appointment and guess what, nobody was there. The door was closed and they didn't even picked up their phone. I was looking for a place that could do both an undercut and curly hair haircuts. I had only been to Salon 815 for my nails but decided to call. I called a handful of barbershops but no one could do both an undercut and also be confident with handling curly hair. Salon 815 suggested Marlene and I'm SO GLAD they did!! Marlene was very attentive to detail and design! She really knew how to do a versatile complimentary cut for my naturally curly hair. Long over due review as I have been going to this salon for 3 years. I started out with Max, I was new to SF & has no idea who to trust coloring my hair. I saw all the great reviews about him & he really didn't disappoint. He really knows what he's doing and you can tell that by the time you walk out. Max is constantly booked so it became hard for me to see him but one time I called, he recommended I try Marlene who was a new addition to the team & I said yes! So glad I did because I was her very FIRST client over a year ago & I am still religiously seeing her every month to do my hair. I have never been so in love with my hair color & happy with my stylist. I go to see Marlene before every important event & she always makes me look like great. This review is for Misa Miry (eyelash extensions) and pedicure with Annie. Love Salon 815 location! It is conveniently located right at the West Portal muni station. There is metered parking around too. I spent sometime after I got my services done to walk around and check out the West Portal restaurants and shops. Miry does an amazing job on eyelash extensions! She's so good at her craft! I was referred to her by one of my colleagues because I had asked her where she had gotten her beautiful lash extensions from. I must say from the moment I met her she has such a sweet, welcoming way about her. This is my 2nd time getting my lashes done with her. She accesses your needs to what will work best for your eyes and lifestyle. She takes her time and wants you to be satisfied. I feel so comfortable and at ease with her that I feel asleep! This does not hurt at all and she also gives you full instructions how to care for your lashes. I would recommend her to anyone wanting to try lash extensions. She's such a wonderful energy I will keep returning to Miry for my lashes! People keep asking me where I got my lashes done! Make an appointment! My stylist had moved out of the city at the start of Covid. Which left me without any stylus for quite a while. When it came to searching for a new salon I looked for cleanliness, the stylists ability to listen to my needs, and the over all environment of the Salon. If I may add, I am super picky with my hair. I tend to walk into hair appointments with a slight anxiety attack because I'm never confident that the stylist would get it right BUT this place is totally different. Metered Parking on the street and metered parking lot behind the Salon. I see this place all the time when I go to Submarine Center lol. It's difficult to find a place my mom likes. She usually goes word of mouth, referred to her by friends. Over the last 25 years, my mother never has anything nice to say about anywhere we've gone to. So I showed mom pics off this page. I said it's close by to where we live. She was down to try. 84 years old(she won't read this lol) and she is very critical. This was the first time she came back smiles and good things to say. Mom received touch up and highlights from Max. He did an incredible job keeping my mom looking like she's my age. Mom said she enjoyed speaking to him. Very personable. I met him and he's very nice. Max took a picture so I won't post my mom because she's be mad if I did anyway lol. Give yourself the right care if you're looking for a new place. I just got a great haircut from Sergio! It was my first visit at the salon and the first time meeting Sergio. I explained to him what I want and don't want :), he listened patiently, and gave me exactly what I was looking for. I have short hair and it's really hard to find someone who would give me a haircut that matches my expectation. I didn't want to look boyish nor to have it trimmed too much. I stopped by here on a whim because I had 30 minutes to kill before picking up my little one from school. I had to take advantage of my free time and decided to walk-in for a manicure. The lady (Anne) who helped me was very helpful and nice. I quickly selected my nail color and she was able to get me in and out of this place within 30 minutes. This was perfect because I had enough time to grab lunch and make it in time to pick up my little guy from school. The place is clean and well kept and looks newly renovated. They have a great selection of colors and have nice spa chairs for pedicures. I didn't get to try it out because I didn't have time for a pedi but will definitely return. I didn't try their hair salon services but definitely recommend their nail services. They're attentive, clean, have a great selection of nail colors, and service is great. I paid $13 for a mani on April 2016 which is definitely a decent rate for the area. I'll definitely return. read more

Hair & Nail Caberet is no longer; it was sold and looks like it got redecorated! It's so grown & sexy in there now. I love it! Ugh- totally forgot to take pics of the place. Cute, cute! Found this place on yelp yesterday, called and was able to get an appointment for the same day. Parking was a little difficult, so next time I'l probably hop on the Muni or take an Uber, but so in love with the salon. The staff was super sweet, there was only 2 ladies working at the time but they were able to manage multiple customers, answer the phone and give wait times to customers walking in all while doing an amazing job. My acrylic nails were borderline deteriorating but somehow the lady was able to give me a fill and make them look like a new set. It cost about $28 which I thought was very reasonable, given the location and how cute and well put together the salon was. So glad that I finally found a new go-to salon, but I would definitely recommend making an appointment first since they get busy pretty fast. read more

Walked in for a manicure/pedicure. The ladies were friendly, I really liked the massage chairs and was generally satisfied with the results - so why not 5 stars? Below are some items that did not make it a 5-star experience: * The water in the foot bath was too cold. When I was first asked to put my feet in the foot bath, I immediately pulled it out. She asked if it was too hot, I said no too cold. She put up the hot water, but by then it was mostly filled up with cold water. * I could have used more scrubbing on the soles of my feet. * They didn't buff my toe nails - I didn't realize till I got home. * This one is not specific to this salon, but I feel like a male manicure/pedicure should always be a little cheaper than women's, since men don't get their nails painted (generally). The positives of my experience were: * They accommodated a walk-in. * My fingernails look and feel clean and shiny. * The ladies were friendly and efficient, I was in and out in no time (though I wish they took their time during some parts). read more
