Popped into La Bergamote after a recent doctor's appointment. My friend used to work in Chelsea and highly recommended this bistro. The menu is simple and gives one ample items to nosh on. The weather was cold, so I instead of lunch I decided on a small hot chocolate ($5.25) to warm up. My friend got a small cappuccino ($5.50). We also got a pain au chocolat ($5.25) to split. The service was excellent and the waitress was extremely attentive and friendly. I really liked the atmosphere of the eatery. The lights looked vintage and weren't too bright. There were about 12 patrons when we stopped by eating a variety of french cuisine including salads, sandwiches and breakfast offerings. Besides the classic french dishes, La Bergamote serves fresh pastries baked daily. Patrons can order a custom cake for a special occasion. This place was recommended to us by a dear friend. This french bakery DID NOT disappoint. Croque Monsieur was absolutely delicious and perfectly crispy. Although I personally enjoy slightly less cheese, I still found myself eating more. The salad was perfectly flavored and light. My partner got the Lemon Ricotta Blueberry Pancakes which (Im personally too picky to enjoy fruits with pancakes typically) was SOO delicious. I was super impressed with its texture being so soft and slightly crispy. The hot chocolate was not too sweet and not too bitter, and they were able to make it with oat milk! These may be the best pancakes I've had in the city. People rave about this other resturant that is French in Brooklyn and has a three part french name. I've reviewed them and found their portions to be lacking and the price to be overly expensive, even for NYC. Instead come here. The pancakes are similar, meaning that these are better. Crispy edges, fluffy center, doused in real maple syrup, with macerated berries. It's lovely and feels fancy without breaking the bank. Their bacon was also perfect. High quality crispy, but not burnt. Just perfect. This place is SO GOOD. I would say get here before 11am as it fills up and you may not want to fight the (older) Chelsea brunch crowd. read more

We were going to Chelsea market to walk around and eat breakfast, but didn't realize that even though the market opens early, most of the tenants don't open until much later! So we decided to look for a restaurant relatively close by, and found this place. OH MY GOSH, their breakfast was amazing. Our group of 7 all agreed it was the best breakfast we had on our visit in New York. I got the Lemon Ricotta Blueberry Pancakes, and it was perfect. Pancakes had the barest crunch on the outside, soft and gooey with sweetness on the inside, and the berries add a nice sweet tartness to the whole dish. Definitley a must visit for breakfast. Solid food, mid-tier service. I came in with a group of 6 for brunch, but note that they don't take reservations. I came here to try the pancakes, and they were quite good! Their only pancake option is the lemon ricotta blueberry pancakes. It comes as a standard two stack, and is crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, which is the exact texture I love. I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't taste the lemon or ricotta moistness, but overall these are a solid stack. The maple syrup isn't overdone, and the pancakes were cooked perfectly. Probably the most tasteful French food I've had outside of France! Ambiance was simple, service was good but come for the food! We started with the onion soup of course a good classic and it was excellent. My husband had the steak frites and delicious! The star of the show for us though was the Cajun chicken, the seasoning was perfect, the bird was juicy and all cut into perfect portions. Desserts also can't be missed! I have been a patron of this place for years. I dined again with a friend on March 2, 2025 and was served by Renato. When I received the bill, I was surprised to see a gratuity of 20% already included. This is what I would have tipped anyways but seeing it already included was alarming because this isn't standard practice in NYC unless stated in restaurant policy or for parties of 6 or more. When I confronted our waiter, he informed me that when the restaurant thinks certain tables won't tip they add gratuity. The response was downright discriminatory and this practice is illegal. He continued to defend his stance unapologetically and refused to provide any information regarding the manager. What's worse is that the table next to us (receipt image also attached) wasn't subject to a forced gratuity. This matter is not about gratuity per se but the discriminatory practice applied by the restaurant. I expect prompt investigation of the matter with a resolution. read more

Went for breakfast this Sunday morning. The special was an omelette with salmon and cream cheese. Unfortunately, there was only a sliver of salmon and a barely noticeable smear of cream cheese. For $27, I expect more than a sliver and a smear. They must have been running out of these items because the "specials" board changed from salmon and cream cheese to something completely different. With all that being said, their chocolate dome mousse cake is the only cake I have ever loved. There are cakes that I like - Veniero's torta di mandorle, the brown sugar boba cake at Prince Tea House, the red velvet from Empire Cakes. But a cake as perfect as their chocolate dome cannot be found anywhere else on this planet. There is just the right amount of white chocolate layered in to make you anticipate those perfect bites without being overpowering. No one came back to ask if we needed anything else. The food took over a half hour to arrive and they didn't seem interested in getting paid - the check took forever. I really love coming to this place for chill weekend brunches. It's not over crowded and I never feel rushed, so it's perfect for a leisurely morning (but not good for a big group, best for parties of 1-2). The brunch menu is simple but so fresh and delicious. What a serendipitous find! I must have walked by this place thousand of times and didn't realize what I have been missing out on all these times!!! Was strolling around chelsea and stumbled upon this dessert wonderland when I suddenly had a craving for desserts (although to be honest I have craving for desserts all the time lol). The inside is beautiful!!! Retro French bistro decor and vibe with beautiful tin ceilings! There's an elegant restaurant next to the dessert/bakery area. All the desserts are delicate and aesthetically alluring! To my surprise and amazement, the fruit cakes totally blew my mind! (this is the FRIST time I finally encountered desserts that lived up to my elusive "not too sweet" standards!!!) The framboise has light airy smooth mousse/cream topped with refreshing raspberry compote. The eponymous Bergamote Citron cake left me dreaming about it forever! The mousse/cream melts in the mouth, and the bergamote/citrusy compote has some shreds of zest/peel that gives it additional citrusy flavor and texture! In the sense of the world's smallest violin, I Personally would prefer more mousse/cream and less cake part. The tiramisu is great! Alternating layers of fluffy and smooth mascarpone and light and fluffy lady fingers. It's surrounded by plaques of white chocolates with their name imprinted on. The Black Forest cake has a great variety and combination of different textures - juicy cherry, crunchy chocolate curls and a crunchy chocolate layer on top, fluffy light cream. Flavor wise I think they may have infused the cherry and/or with alcohol (as you should per the authentic original recipe), so I didn't love it as much (I am not the biggest fan of alcohol in general nor the slight bitter alcohol taste) The trois chocolat cake is super chocolatey and decadent. I should it be equal layers of white milk and dark chocolate, but it's actually mostly milk and dark chocolate with a small white chocolate center - I enjoyed it very much! I would enjoy it more if it's a little less sweet. The coco cream brûlée is something new for me. To begin with, It looks adorable! If I didn't know, I would think it's a crème brûlée at all! To me it's more like a chocolate mousse with a custard in the center. I loved it - very chocolatey and smooth with a delightful creamy custardy center! Wish it's a bit less sweet though. A buddy introduced me to this gem on a cold rainy day last winter. I have passed La Bergamote many times over the years. I can kick myself for going in and checking it out sooner. I have been there many times since my first visit and when I can I bring a new friend. I have had the pleasure of being served by a lovely(and beautiful woman) with the best head of curly hair multiple times. She suggested the Paris tea. Amazing. After a couple visits I found myself coming back not only for the service but for the French Onion Soup. Every time I visit La Bergamote every staff member is wonderful and always smiling. Btw... I came here for dinner with a friend and colleague. The front has a pastry counter and trust me, you want to try their macarons (I especially recommend the Oreo, pistachio, and lavender). Behind the counter is the bistro dining area, complete with bistro tables and chairs and a charming wall mural adorned with art nouveau style lettering. I ordered the salmon, which was beautiful on its own, served with fregola, baby heirloom tomatoes, red coulis and smashed peas. Honestly, I could have done without the smashed peas, but everything else about my meal was lovely. My friend ordered the burger and enjoyed it, though she said the bleu cheese made it a bit rich. Service was a bit slow, but not because it was a busy night. Our waiter was too glued to her phone to notice we were ready for the check.
