I was initially looking for a brewery to spend my Saturday evening, but was so surprised to come across this hidden gem! I tried a beer flight, and was thoroughly impressed by all the depth of flavor of each beer, even the lager. For food, I ordered the bodega fries, Chile verde Mac and cheese, as well as the Confit Spare Ribs. The bodega fries were super flavorful. The star of the entire dish was the steak! It was honestly some of the most flavorful steaks, with such good texture as well. The mac and cheese I will say was the star of the night. Although the Mac and cheese doesn't have the same texture as regular Mac and cheese (thick and creamy), it certainly had the perfect amount of flavor from the Chile verde. The Confit Spare ribs were cooked to perfection, falling right off the bone. They were both acidic and sweet, with the sauce just completing the dish. The portions were also great for all the dishes. The ambiance also added to the overall meal. The food here is amazing, I can't wait to come back for more. I enjoyed the chicken Caesar sandwich and my partner had the bodega dog, pretty large portion. Second time I've come here. Second time I've had horrible service at the business front. My first visit was on a Sunday. I took my mother and God Parents (all 3 in their 70s). My mom and aunt enjoy wine, my uncle and I enjoy beer, and we all enjoy good food. La Bodega Brewing seemed like the perfect small spot for brunch with my family elders. I wasn't aware that it was a "speak easy." And I get the concept, but there's no need to be rude about it. Wish I would have gotten the employees name, but I didn't. But she was a petite female with dark hair, looked very young. Well we ask to "see the butcher" and get seated. Try to order food, but because it was brunch, all they had was certain appetizers. We were hoping to get some good steaks. So we got hot wings instead. They were adobo, and good. But the service at the front and the little natt/fly at the table kept bugging. Left, still willing to give the place a second chance. Maybe I just caught one bad night, with one bad employee, with just one small fly at the table. So fast forward a couple of months and my mother and I are invited to a friend's surprise party. It takes a lot to get my mother out. She's a recent widow, who's just getting comfortable socializing again. So it was nice to see her get excited about going out. Getting all dressed up. It was cool. So we show up at 615pm on Weds. Unfortunately on my second chance at the place, the same bad employee must've been having another bad day at the front. Don't know if the same fly was there, because said employee turned us away at the door. What she said didn't make sense; 1. We were only allowed in groups of 10 or more. (Place is extremely small, so groups of 10 or more seems odd). 3. She followed up by saying that she just let in a group of 3 (my cousin's). I asked her "well, can't we sit with them as part of their group of ten?" The answer was no. 4. She said I would have to call the other people invited to come. I told her we didn't know any other people (the three inside were my cousin's, and the only ones we knew aside from my friend who the surprise was for). She told me "Then I can't let you in." The look of disappointment on my mom's face was heartbreaking. On the way home she said that this is why she doesn't like to go out. I spoke with my friend. She apologized, said that those rules were never told to her. She's REALLY good at details, and none of it was mention in person or invites, so it just seems absurd. I'll never go there again. There's to many other local restaurants with great beers and drinks in Uptown Whittier. And food is everywhere there too. I hope you can teach your front staff professionalism and courtesy. Because arrogance is disrespectful and will only drive business away from Uptown Whittier. And Uptown doesn't deserve that. Ps: place currently has a wait time of 5 minutes as in the pic. A unique addition to the Uptown Whittier food scene. Disguised as a meat market, go through the "meat cooler door" to find a small restaurant and bar. We had reservations, ended up waiting a good 5-10 mins with other waiting groups in the lobby as the host struggled to finish a phone order and seat the crowd. After getting seated, we were graced with the presence of our server, Monique. She was so sweet and attentive. I ordered a Mango Michelada, bae had an Old Fashioned. I couldn't finish the Miche- it lacked flavor and i really didn't like the ice added. For dinner I had the Bodega Fries- so good! (fries are crunchy and delicious) but, unpopular opinion, the onions ruined it. Bae had the rib-eye steak which was super delicious. The tables were a bit too close together, we could practically bend our arms and touch elbows. Then there's the decor, it's like it's trying to tell a story that doesn't translate. Came here on a date night a couple of weeks ago and my husband and I were honestly blown away. We had never been to a speakeasy so the concept to us was very cool, you walk in and it looks like you're at a Carniceria a.k.a. a meat market. Then you're led into the actual dining room and we were even more blown away because it is so beautiful, the art on the wall the whole vibe was just amazing. Mind you when places look really nice and fancy I have not had the best experience with the food but this place is up to par. My husband ordered a chile Colorado plate and it was so good, we also ordered the roasted cauliflower as an appetizer and it was delicious. I hate to write this review because I selfishly want to keep this hidden gem in uptown Whittier a secret, but it has to be done. This is easily one of my favorite spots to eat for a special night out. The palette of flavors from the crafted beer, to appetizers, different main courses (chile verde is so damn good!) to even the specially crafted ice cream flavor from Fosselmen's, you can tell the chef had a vision! If you haven't had Fosselmen's ice cream on Main Street in Alhambra then that's a story I'll save for a separate review, but the minute I saw that on the menu after we finished dinner, I was like oh hell yes let's go! I was expecting a simple scoop of chocolate; nope it's layered again in flavor Oaxacan style specifically made for this menu. The restaurant has a cozy feel, and the service is super friendly, albeit slow at times. I ordered a Buena Suerte Michelada, and it was ice cold, tall, and tasty. For my entree, I chose appetizers: confit spareribs and the chile verde Mac & cheese. The meat fell off the ribs, and the flavor is addictive! The latter was just ok because the spice of the chile was a bit off for me. It didn't seem to pair well with the pasta shells & light cheese. My BF's Chile Colorado was DELICIOUS! A really cool spot to stumble upon. I was drinking at the Whittier Brewing Co and they had nothing to eat. My husband found this nearby, thanks to Yelp. Apparently they opened Nov 2021. The "store" looks like a small "butcher shop" but the host will walk you through the fridge door and bam. Theres the place. Really nice interior. The ceiling is beautiful. They have a dark green velvety booth. Hip looking place, pretty upscale. The beers/seltzers were good. Kinda small, wished they had larger sizes. My chicken burger was Amazing, a solid 10, ID DEF RECOMMEND! $16 but came with a ton of fries. Husband got a burger and added bacon, $21 in total for his but kinda dissatisfied, lacked sauce and maybe throw in a pickle spear or something. This place is a hidden gem "Speak Easy". Looks like a butchers market from the outside. I made reservations for 1:30pm to try out the Brunch menu. Unfortunately, by the time we were seated & attended at our table it was 5min to 2PM. The waitress told us they were already transitioning to the Lunch Menu. Service was a little slow but it seemed as though they only had 2 waitresses attending all the tables. It would have been nice to be informed on the change of menu times as we were getting seated so it gives guest a chance to quickly place their order before the transition. The lunch menu doesn't have many options to choose from so one of us ordered the Burger & a Caesar Salad with Steak. The burger & fries did not disappoint. Although the salad was very tasty I was a little disappointed with the way it is served. The steak was tasty but they serve it in crumbly pieces more for street tacos. Usually when you order steak on a salad it's in either skirt style slices or just simply larger slices that can be easily eaten with a salad. The wedge came in whole so I had to chop it up on a very wobbly table. Again, it was a good salad just didn't appreciate how it is served. We did 2 flights so gave us the chance to try 8 different Brews. We were bummed that the 3 main brews we wanted to try were out but the others we tried were really good. If you like dark I recommend Buena Suerte. I do plan on giving this place another shot hopefully attempt brunch again or check out the Dinner menu & hopefully up my rating. read more

Our waitress seemed like a ditz, looked very lost and they just stand in a corner chatting. She asked my boyfriend if he wanted another beer, he did. She never brought it out. The food.... Wings, SKIMPY but sauce was good. There was basically no meat on them. Aguachiles, trash. Like 4 pieces of shrimp, no flavor. It is at the top of the list for blandness for sure. Shrimp was also chewy... wagyu hot dog had the best flavor.. fries are fries. The process to pay is inconvenient. They have a POS system that gets passed around to customers and no system behind the counter...? So we waited a while for our waitress to get back with the receipt. Outstanding staff! We have lived in the surrounding area but never the chance to check out this restaurant until last Thursday. It is a nice place to come enjoy a cold brewed beer from the house accompanied by many good choices from the lunch or dinner menu. Food is good. If you're looking for a new restaurant with great drinks, new interesting food items and excellent service- La Bodega is the place you want to be at on a Saturday night . I was pleasantly surprised to have such on point service, our server Mailey was very good and offered her suggestions before we could even ask . I had a red blend wine ( field recordings) which was extremely delicious ! I highly suggest that if you are not a beer person . My fiancée had a beer flight and really enjoyed that . They did take a while to get him his beers due to a tap issue but they recovered the mishap by bringing us an extra flight . We ended the evening with a dulce de leche cheesecake. This place was dope. We had the chicken sliders, fries and some beers and they were all good. The chicken sliders were a good size and the fries were better than most. They have brewery stickers if you're into collecting them. There's a parking structure across the street as well as some street parking. We were seated right away at the bar but there was a line when we were leaving so I imagine it gets busy. I'd recommend making reservations. The bartenders were really attentive. This is a cool place ... butcher shoppe meats speakeasy. When you go through the front doors , a worker comes out to ask if you have reservations and tell you about the resturant. You could always come in and buy some meat from the cooler area in the lobby or some sauce or other gadgets. Opted for the chicken sliders ... they were good... the honey on top of the chicken added a nice touch. Wanted to upgrade the fries to the La budges fries, but asked the waitress and that's an option they don't do. Would of been cool if you could pay an extra fee to upgrade the regular fries. My husband and I went on Wednesday for our wedding anniversary. I got the sea bass and vegetable medley, my husband got steak and brussels sprouts. The vegetable medley came out maybe 10 minutes before everything else. We were hungry so we ate it, so I was left with no side. The food is delicious! I would highly recommend going but not for a special occasion. I removed 1 star because of the food situation and because our waitress never came back.
