They were ok at best. Barely any sour cream, guacamole or pico de gallo. Cheese was an extra $2. Comes with 3 tortillas. Extras are $2 per order of 3. When the food came we were attacked by flies. No kidding at least 6 or 7 of them. We had to cover our food with napkins. Bathroom walls have holes in them and not recently. Will not be back. read more

Save your money unless you enjoy licking grease traps, inflated prices and lowsy service. Here's an idea: teach your servers to write down the orders before submitting them. We're locals, but won't support La Cabana anymore. Manager couldn't have cared less that our experience was bad. Food was on par, with the exception being the grilled tilapia, which was a fantastic dish. Covered in onions, peppers and spinach, with a guacamole salad, it was very tasty and on the zero carb menu (double win). The downside was the very spotty service, which was slow given how empty the place was. When I inquired about our order, our server had a bit of an attitude, but ultimately she came back with an answer. We stayed at the Helendorf on a Sunday night, day before Labor Day. It was late, we were hungry and very relaxed from the bottle of wine we just shared in the room. Figured nothing was opened but Wendy's next door but as we got closer to La Cabana, we could hear a party going on. Live music on the patio! We were seated right away and ordered nachos and a couple of tacos. All were fantastic. What was really great about this place was the music. A man and his son playing cover songs with raunchy commentary in between. Had everyone joining in and laughing. We come to Helen at least 1-2 per year for 15 years now. This is the first time we've visited this restaurant. Service was super slow. They didn't seem very busy, but took almost an hour to get our food. Even asked someone to check on it and didn't hear back. Our food showed up 10 minutes later. Wow. This place is certainly an anomaly in Helen. Great food At NORMAL prices, with a level of service that I've not seen anywhere else, let alone Helen. The food is real Mexican style food, not tex mex. No neon colored nacho cheese here. The small nacho plate was a perfect size meal, and hubby enjoyed the shrimp and chicken meal. Everything was delicious! The level of service here is unreal. Just as I was thinking how great the service was, someone came over and poured my hubby's beer into a freshly frosted glass mug. One wouldn't think you could find good Mexican food in the north gorgia mountains. Think again. We come to helen a few times a year and always make sure we stop here for a bite to eat. The chips and salsa are great and they keep them coming. Staff is fast and friendly and that's always a plus. Our last visit we were a table of eight and we are served by a waiter that was on his second day of work. The staff was Tri I g him while he was waiting on us and I must say.....he did a great job! This may be the only Mexican restaurant in town, but it doesn't disappoint like the German restaurants! I haven't ran into too many good Mexican places whiling living in Georgia, but I will say this is my absolute favorite! I have missed eating GOOD street tacos, and they 100% the bomb! Our waiter, Javier was really friendly and checked in to make sure we were satisfied. We enjoyed our time here so much that we ended up eating here again with the family. Best service of any place we've visited in Helen so far by a mile! Staff is friendly and attentive, and the food comes out fairly quickly after ordering. Atmosphere is very pleasant, especially if you're looking for a quieter noise level. The food is definitely good quality, especially for the price. They have your typical Mexican dishes, but also light versions for those of us watching our waistlines. I especially enjoyed the chunky Mexican guacamole and both dishes I snagged shrimp off of (sharing is caring!). For beverages I would recommend a Mexican soda if you're going alcohol free for the evening - great pineapple one on the menu - or if you're in an adult beverage kind of mood go for the Margarita. We had a great experience!! We were a little hesitant when we first entered the restaurant because there were not many people there however we were having a late lunch. The food was really good. We had 3 orders of guacamole because it was so good and we were starving. The asada tacos, shrimp quesadilla, and pescado tacos. Everything was delicious. We were all very impressed and have decided to come back during our next visit to Helen. Also enjoyed the rice and beans and the chips were crispy and warm. Loved every bite! read more

Seriously the best Americanized Mexican joint in the area. Salsa was perfectly blended with a not too spicy for the kids flavor. The cheese dip and jalapenos were great with no milky aftertaste. Chorizo was smoky as it should be and in typical Mexican restaurant fashion, the Cokes had the perfect syrup-to-CO2 ratio. I often stopped here after the tubing experience. Just like the other La Cabana in Clayton, GA. The food is not authentic, but it's been altered to cater toward the majority, it's a Southern style Mexican, lot's of butter and cheese (I might taste some bacon?) "Paula Deen will be proud of this restaurant!!!" But knowing what they serve, the food is excellent, and very fast order, when I'm veeery hungry after a long tubing I can dine quickly to satisfy my hunger. read more

Coming from out of town, we were excited to try the cuisine. The waiter was slow paced and nonchalant with serving us. The food was even worse. One member of our party ordered a vegan burrito, without any meat, however to our surprise the burrito had meat tucked in the middle. Another member of our party ordered Chile Rellenos, however there was only a slither of a green Chile and the rest looked like hamburger helper. La Cabana is tucked away off of Main St. and it was so dark looking in I originally thought it was closed. Fortunately I walked around to the main entrance which is actually on what you'd think is the back of the building. I'm surprised by the negative reviews. I ordered the steak fajitas and not only did they come out faster than expected they were piping hot. The dish had enough peppers and onions to get me through the meal without running out. The guacamole was also very tasty. I'm a big eater and the portion was more than sufficient. In fact, I was stuffed at the end of the meal. Granted, that may have been helped by the monster Dos Equis (which was ice cold) but who can be sure? I didn't experience any issues with cleanliness and the waiter couldn't have been more attentive. We ate here in late July, 2019, and I have to agree with the reviews by Nathalia and Dallas. We had an incredibly long wait for the food. They forgot one of our dishes completely, and it was obvious that some of the plates had been sitting on the counter while they cooked the others--the food was cold and bland. Not to be mean, but it felt as if we were in an episode of Gordon Ramsay's "Kitchen Nightmares." The service was not great, but I really fault the management and the kitchen. The seating was between a large patio with painfully loud performer (not a good one either) or in the very tiny cramped indoor. .. Everything was served quick but that's not always a good thing. ...my cheese dip was still cold and clumpy in the middle but the bowl was boilling hot clearly poorly microwaved. . The whole order was lousy. I was very specific about wanting onions, cilantro, and verde sauce with my pork tacos. They gave me lettuce, tomato, and sour cream instead. Asked for ground beef chimichanga, got steak. The to go order looked like they tossed it around and shook it up before they gave it to us. No flavor at all.
