Dinner was on point this evening. Shared a lovely braised kale salad--creamy Grana Padano, and tahini enveloped the warm kale. Entrees included one of three specials...the braised duck nestled in a cloud of parsnip and blueberries makes your mouth sing. The braised beef ribs were tender and sprinkled with a spattering of pomegranate seeds that burst in your mouth with each bite. To finish we had the very shareable chocolate creme de pots which were creamy explosions of cool chocolate and berry compote expertly positioned on the plate --what a lovely finish and would be nice with an espresso if we hadn't brought wine to this BYOB. Went out for a delicious brunch at La Cannelle Cafe recently. I had a mushroom and Swiss cheese omelette, and it was cooked just as I requested. My friend is a vegetarian. There weren't a lot of options for her on the menu, and the avocado toast came with an egg which she removed. More options for vegetarians and vegans would be nice. The service was great, and low pressure. That's something we appreciate when gathering to eat and chat. The decor is interesting with a variety of paintings on the walls, as well as a large glass window that lets in a lot of light. That leads to the only negative point - noise. The hardwood floors, ceiling, and glass make the space into an echo chamber. Since there were lots of patrons that made it very difficult to hear each other. read more

The rating on Yelp convinced me and the one lowest rated review, I SHOULD HAVE PAID ATTENTION TO! This one review said the food was cold, same here. Let's start from the beginning. When I arrived one person was leaving, they were waiting on a party of 10, I WAS ALONE! The service was pleasant but slow. The restaurant is small, neat but nicely decorated. Cold food is a turn off to most but since this is a small business personally I will give its pass. I said nothing but, MOST PEOPLE DO NOT LIKE COLD FOOD! The French Toast was good and worth the price but there was no reason to serve cold food to the one person dining. On the other hand the coffee was hot and strong thankfully not bitter, it was good. The menu has a pretentious air for no reason. A Frou frou menu in a strip mall is a bit much, simple food with a twist is okay. The breakfast menu could be better as breakfast items are easy. I didn't see or hear about the chicken sausage everyone talked about. I'm happy with hiring choice of the young man (Steven?) it would be the only reason for my return. read more

First time we went there it was magnificent. Last time is my last time there. Went for brunch for my birthday with my daughter, waffle was so hard and rubbery I couldn't eat it. Bacon was like beef jerky. It's a shame they decided to give us leftovers. read more

This is the cutest little cafe that we stopped in to for brunch recently. The service was very good and several of the menu items looked enticing. I had the chicken salad sandwich with a side salad. The salad was fresh and dressing delicious. The only reason not 5 stars is that the chicken salad was VERY salty. I love salty food but could see others finding this level of salt intolerable. My daughter and three young grandsons and I had an absolutely wonderful brunch here this morning! My daughter got her usual breakfast - the fondue potatoes and eggs. She loves that dish. She ordered the grilled cheese and potatoes, French toast, and scrambled egg whites and potatoes for the boys. They really did a good job eating most of it all up. On typical outings with them, they barely touch their food so I was impressed on how quickly they gobbled this up. It was my first time there but I quickly settled on the corned beef Benedict. It was so good, and I loved that it came on a nice piece of sourdough - I never order Eggs Benedict because I don't really like English muffins that much. Anyway, this was really very good and I will likely order it again next time. It's a cute and quite small place, but the staff was very accommodating and efficient. This cafe is a hole in the wall that I've driven past countless times in my life until I finally decided to stop in and I'm so glad I did! I've had the lemon pound cake French toast and it was amazing as well as the breakfast sandwich. I'd recommend getting the breakfast sandwich with bacon or sausage on it since it might give the sandwich the little piece I felt was missing. The cafe is tight on space and it appeared as though they had only one chef in the kitchen, however the staff was all nice and were able to seat us quickly on a Saturday for brunch. Additionally, the food got out to us relatively quickly despite the number of customers in the cafe. I'll definitely be returning here in the near future to try more! read more

We love that this tiny restaurant is close by and while there are only about 10-12 tables, it's cozy and comfortable and is a BYOB, our favorite. Another plus is that the menu seems to be different from other restaurants with a variety of French dishes, and we appreciate that they are trying. Additionally, our server was warm and attentive. We started our meal with the roasted grape and arugula salad which was big enough to share. I decided to try the special which was the duck l'orange. I immediately had buyer's remorse as the portion was small and not very moist and had the skin on top. There were no sides except for the orange pieces and a bit of cabbage. Just an okay dish. My husband had the chicken and burrata. He had difficulty eating it as the stems were left on the grapes, and there were many little pieces that he kept having to pick off or spit out. We may give this local restaurant another try in the future, but we'll be careful how we order. read more

Very reasonably priced especially considering the quality and quantity of food. Almost too much food quite frankly. We had the beet & fennel salad to share (which they kindly split onto two separate plates for us without even asking), the lamb kafta (basically a lamb burger with a tasty green sauce on top and crema underneath), goat ragu tagliatelle, and mushroom gnocchi. All very nice! I would have liked a couple slices of bread to soak up the sauces. This place is a hidden gem. Located in a small row of shops, it offers a fusion of Moroccan, French and various Mediterranean fare. One of the absolute best meals I've ever had. Wonderful service in a small, cozy dining room. An outdoor option is available as weather permits. I cannot adequately express how delicious the meal was. We started with a shared salad of roasted beet and fennel over a spring mix, followed by a wonderful plate of roasted chiffonade of Brussels sprouts from the small plates menu. Then we shared an entrée of freshly house made tagliatelle and roasted pulled goat in an absolutely exquisite sauce that was indescribably flavorful. We will definitely be coming back. read more

This resto is the definition of neighborhood gem, located in an unassuming little spot, but filled with deliciousness, warmth and character (and byob!). We went for dinner on a weeknight and tried their 3 course meal -- the only downside being that we had the same dishes and didn't get to try more of the menu (no problem as we'll be back). An appetizer of mini savory puff pastry shells filled with a sweet fruit preserve started us off, and was followed by a couple housemade brioche-type buns, then honey pear salad, and then our main, which was a wide pasta topped with a delicious beef ragu. Dessert was a pistachio creamy panna cotta-like affair to be shared, topped with fresh blueberries. I had meant to post this earlier! We had the Cafe cater my mother's 80th birthday party back in November and the food was absolutely delicious and beautiful! Working with the Loubna was easy. She made recommendations and was very flexible. We opted to have our luncheon at home instead of the cafe and everything was packaged beautifully! Real dishes and cover buffet servers were loaned to us along with the burners. We opted to pick up the order ourselves since we live so close by. Set up was so easy. Just moved to the Media area, and we wanted a quite bite while unpacking so we decided to try la Cannelle--and are so glad we ordered take-out from there! My mom got pumpkin poundcake french toast, my boyfriend got the short rib sandwich, and I got the pesto chicken sandwich. All 3 were phenomenal, and I want to get that pesto sandwich every week forever now. The ONLY reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because my mom also ordered an iced tea. The menu didn't specify that there was any flavoring, so we assumed that it was unsweetened black tea; however, it tasted very floral. She's allergic to a lot of herbs used in flavored teas (like rosehips) so after tasting it, she decided not to drink it. If the tea is flavored with something, I hope they update the menu. We had an orange fennel salad(very good), beef short ribs with parsnips (THE BEST WE HAVE EVER HAD!) and panna cotta(excellent). I am gluten free & the waitress was knowledgeable & helpful. The service was very friendly, professional and quick. The ambiance was very good. They have their own parking lot adjacent to the restaurant. DUCK BACON DUCK BACON DUCK BACON Should I have to say more? Really? You need more? Okay, I've been to La Cannelle twice now, & it's been very good both times! They are located in the same little shopping complex as the PO & Pantry 1 Food Mart, which used to be a Wawa. There's not a lot of commercial anything in Wallingford, so if you know Wallingford, you know exactly where they are. They have indoor & outdoor seating, though due to needing a high chair, I was inside both visits. Interior is clean & new, neutrals, with warehousey-steampunky light fixtures. The dark trims & charcoal granites in contrast with the warmish neutrals made it feel cafe-like to me. The staff is very friendly, & knowledgeable about the menu. The menu is full of tempting options! Lemon Lavender Pancakes, Grilled Halloumi & Fig Salad, (homemade) Chicken Apple Sausage, French Onion Grilled Cheese, Spicy Marinated Carrots, all kinds of aptly layered tastes! Table dressings were really cute! Cellars of pink Himalayan salt, fresh flowers, & mason jar mugs with red-&-white striped straws. Over two visits, I tried the Banana Bread French Toast, the Burrata & Heirloom Tomato Salad, & the Open Faced Braised Lamb Sandwich. On the first visit, the Burrata had THE BEST MOZZ I HAVE EVER HAD, including trips to Italy. It was a crazy food trip eating it, SFG! I have a new standard of what mozz can/should be. OMG, trippy! IME fresh mozz is a white ball of soft-but-firmly-uniform cheese. The mozz at La Cannelle was a white ball with a bit of a skin, & inside, the cheese was runny & creamy in a way that was magic & my synapses were firing to take it in & remember it, like some secret I wish I'd known all my life: "Find the runny mushy mozz & it's heaven!" Wow, that stuff is worth the cost of the plate, right there, but the heirloom toms were bursting with earthy fruity flavor, & the balsamic was there, accenting, but not overpowering, just how I like it. The second time I had it, everything was still very good, but my mozz was a little smaller, & slightly less fresh. Still all very very tasty, but I wanted to note that I detected a slight difference. The Banana Bread French Toast, was good, but not as expected when I think "French Toast." I honestly had not had FT since I was probably 6 years old, when my dad made us fun breakfasts every Saturday while my mom slept in. I remember the special combo of sogginess & crunch that I know FT to have. Maybe my dad wasn't a pro at making it (although it was pretty darn good), but that was the texture I anticipated, & the accompanying flavor of egg/sugar/bread, in that order. La Cannelle's Banana Bread FT is very heavy, like banana bread normally is. When I began eating it, I felt I probably should have expected the heaviness of b-bread, but perhaps calling it "French Toast" is a misnomer. It didn't seem to have been dunked in egg-milk, but it had been fried a bit. I think calling it Seared Banana Bread Hot Cake or something is a better title for what I ate. That said, the salted caramel sauce, whipped cream cheese & toasted pecan crumble garnishes were very good, & while heavy, the dish was perfect for breakfast cravings, or banana cravings, or what have you. My picky one-year-old enjoyed his portion of it too! The Braised Lamb Sandwich has pulled lamb that is full of BBQ style taste (in the sense of deep meaty flavor), & it took lamb to a more savory place than I've ever had it. Really amazingly done. I normally roll my eyes at Gruyere, but it was the right choice here, & the fresh figs on top just put it all over the edge. YUM-friggin-yum! I dreamed about this one, it is a fond food memory now, along with the mozz! But, again, with this one, I tasted it on both visits, & it was slightly less astounding the second time, however, take this with a grain of salt, because I note a pattern here, so it might be me building things up to taste like opium or something. The food is still crazy good, don't worry! Et la pièce de résistance? You guessed it! DUCK BACON! I'd never heard of duck bacon before, let alone tried it. It is offered as a side, a little steep at $7 but SOOO worth it, & you get a decent portion for how decadent & rich it is! I did not miss the opportunity to add it on, both times. Delicious. Savory, heavy flavor, indulgent, sweetly glazed, tasted like a crispy slice of duck brisket. Meat candy, Baby! Mmmm! You never knew little quackers could taste so good! (Sorry, quackers!) Since I tried it, I've heard of duck pastrami, OMG, that is my next quest! One thing to note, on my first visit, I used a Restaurant.com certificate, which took a week to resolve. MAKE SURE TO CONTACT LA CANNELLE DIRECTLY BEFORE you try to use one, because you will have issues. The owner, Loubna, was very communicative over Yelp messages with me about it, & we did get it resolved. She was very kind, & greeted me personally, which was so sweet. Doesn't look like much when you walk past but what a wonderful surprise inside. This is such a great restaurant for breakfast/brunch and, on Thursdays through Saturdays, for dinner. Last night, my husband has the branzino and I had the gnocchi. We also had the baked Brie appetizer. Everything was full of flavor and beautifully cooked. The service was friendly and efficient. Wow! Just, wow! My husband and I were out for a walk and almost walked right past this place. We decided to stop and try their breakfast and we were not disappointed! What a gem! The waitress was attentive and the food was fabulous! I am an iced tea drinker and my first sip was...delicious! I had to know what the "extra" was in the tea! Then we had the Brie starter. I had the challah French toast with mixed berries and what an experience! I had to share with my husband because it was a flavor explosion! Hubby had the mushroom omelet and was impressed! This is a place with awesome gastronomic talent. A real hidden gem. They have different items every week and their ingredients and preparation are at a high level. I was just there at dinner and there was chicken roulade that was succulent and flavorful, served with broccoli rabe and mashed potatoes, the presentation beautiful and the flavors complex. We also had a baked goat cheese appetizer as well as shrimp wrapped in bacon. The dessert I had was Lamington cake, an Australian delicacy I had never heard of and loved.
