I visit La Carreta of Kendall Restaurant either the coffee kiosk or the restaurant. My experience has always been excellent--from food preparation to service. Also, the delivery service is prompt. This time my review is not only to praise the restaurant management for their involvement in providing good food and service to its patrons, but also to thank the coffee kiosk for their help when I stopped at their place with a large cut on my finger from having caught it at the car door. They volunteered help, provided ice in a glass, napkins, and any other assistance I needed. My thanks go to the servers at the coffee kiosk for their attention to my needs. read more

Fundamental Cuban fare. Lots of big servings and great flavors. I'm Cuban so I can honestly say that I love everything on the menu however, if there is one thing that I actually crave is thier soups. Thier chicken soup is by far the best I've had at any restaurant . In second place is thier "Caldo Gallego" which is a white bean soup and "Tamal en cazuela" which is a thick yellow corn meal soup with pork chunks in it. I mean really, how can you go wrong with yellow corn meal and pork chunks :-) Aside from the chicken soup, they are not available everyday. Keep an eye out for thier daily specials. read more

Came here after hitting up the gym - yea I know what was the point of going to the gym. I've come a lot to eat here back in the day, but ever since haven't gotten the stomach for it until now. As soon as I walked in it took them about a couple of minutes to sit me down, I mean I was in-front of them starring at them but I guess they seemed to have ignored me and continued in there own merry way, after being acknowledged I was sat down at a booth table.. it was pretty sticky and smelled like the cloth they used to wipe down the table was old and moldy. The server was nice and attentive she explained the specials and answered all my questions, when the food came it was good I ordered (masa's de puerco) if spelled right. We strutted in at 9pm and the place was packed, however seated right away. Craving some Cuban food we ordered the croqueta appetizer ( ham, chicken , cod fish and yuca with beef) they were all very tasty. No ox tail left today :( so I had pork with Moros and maduros. All was tasty, well seasoned and very authentic. My kid ordered croqueta preparada and palomilla with rice and beans. We shared a key le pie. If you go hungry, you leave full!! read more

I've been to this restaurant about 10 times over the past 15 years, and tonight's visit was one of the best. In the past, the service was ok, but tonight the service was outstanding. Our server, Damaris S. was phenomenal. She was friendly and extremely efficient and attentive even though the restaurant was very busy. The food was exceptional also. The Cuban midnight sandwich was A+, and the Palomilla Cuban flat steak with black beans and rice was A+++. I will visit this restaurant every chance I get! Love this restaurant!!! read more

I just visited this establishment last Sunday (7-25-11). One of my out of town friends was in Miami - her home town- and wanted to eat Cuban food before she left. The waitress was very nice and attentive. I ordered the tortilla de platano. It was merely ok..there was hardly any plantains in the omelette and there was a pestering mosquito hovering over me and the whole table throughout dinner. I ordered a cafe con leche to finish up my dinner and it was amazing..they never get that wrong. The rest of the table seemed to enjoy their meal but mine could have been better. read more

My wife and I finished having Dinner a La Carreta in Kendall Drive and 117th Ave. She was served a raw chicken you can see the pink in the chicken. She told our waiter and he told her that he will change it. He came back after a few minutes and told her that the Manager of La Carreta said that the chicken was supposed to be like that it's the way they cook it. They never brought the raw chicken back which she was not going to eat anyway and they still charge us for it. The Manager never came out to speak to us, I don't know what kind of Mgr he is that allows to serve raw chicken in his Restaurant which is a big NO, NO. I wonder how they pass their food certification. read more

i've been going to this restaurant for 15 years! i love their food- i grew up eating it and they've stayed consistent. i see a lot of the same employees which is nice and the prices and portions are reasonable. definitely one of my favorite cuban restaurants. the staff is always kind and courteous and the food is always fresh and delicious. read more

We love it. We eat there at least a couple times a week. It's not fancy but it's not funky either. If you ask for Nelson at the La Carreta on Kendal and the Turnpike, you'll get excellent service. I eat their grilled chicken which is healthy and perfectly cooked or Picadillo if I'm feeling like beef. In any case they have the best Cuban food in town and it really is a very good place to eat. read more

Horrendous customer service. They always have 2-3 ladies standing around doing nothing. I ordered my meal half an hour ago for take out and I'm still sitting in the restaurant waiting for it. Don't come here during your lunch break. They take forever and it's not even busy. Very inefficient personnel. Also, check your meal before you head out, rarely do they get it right. read more

Didn't like the food or service. My paella was tasteless and mushy. My daughters breaded chicken was dry and salty. The server was pretty rude too. Yesterday I visited this location with my girlfriend, and mind you we love La carreta , but this one location disappointed us. First of all, parking was a pain. The food took over an hour to come out and to top it all off it it did not looked good and tasted bad. The service was horrendous, we had two waiters but one of them apparently didn't even speak English or Spanish, he would not reply to anything he'd just walk away, simply rude. What a disappointment. My favorite homestyle Cuban restaurant. I really enjoy their Fried Yuca Sticks, Grilled Snapper, Shrimp Creole, Ropa Vieja (Shredded Beef) and Rabo Encedido (Oxtail Stew). Their dessert menu is filled with delights like dulce de leche cheese cake, Tres Leches Cake and their very popular Flan! At dessert the cortadito is a must! I've been eating at this restaurant for years and I've always left satisfied. Their staff is friendly and patient. The atmosphere is casual and family friendly. I've been eating at the Kendall location, and the 8th Street and Bird Road locations for over 20 years. Coming from a Cuban, this is the closest thing you'll ever get to home cooking. I have rated it 4 stars or less in the past cause the service can sometimes be subpar. However, this evening at the Kendall location, our waiter Sandro, and our bus boy, Ismael, truly made it a 5-Star experience. Excellent, caring service. Our (4) water glasses were never less than 3/4 full. It was extremely evident that this duo was aiming to please. So, if you plan on stopping by the Kendall location any day soon, be sure to ask for Sandro, and to include Ismael's back up service! Nice job!! read more

Went out for some late night Cuban food here, but only because Casavana was closed. Huge mistake. I ordered a steak sandwich, first of all, the only steak sandwich I've ever had with lettuce and tomato. The steak had no taste. The only taste was the lettuce and tomato in the sandwich. My boyfriend had pollo a la plancha (grilled chicken breast) with rice and beans. Beans were salty. Oh! My steak sandwich came with fries, they were soggy and tasteless and came wrapped in some wet parchment paper. When we walked inside to pick up our food, the ladies that worked up front looked at us with this face like "OMG GO HOME!!!" and same look to the people after us. Rude. What a mess this place! First, there was a homeless woman cleaning her self off in the woman's bathroom and water was everywhere. Second ordered Cuban toast and was given this buttery slop that was flatter than a cracker. Also ordered cafe con leche and was given a tub of milk and the smallest expresó shot they could find. This place used to be good. My husband and I enjoyed going there often until I moved out of miami, now that I returned I decided that I wanted some Cuban food , so I gave them a call today. I placed an order for pick up. First I do speak Spanish but I am not Cuban and I am not really familiar with all the dishes, but I know what we usually order . When I called the woman on the phone was so rude!! She yelled at me, because I told her how I wanted my steak cook rare and she yelled at me to tell me which sides I wanted. Ok, thank you for listening to me. She went on to yell at me for some other dish that my husband wanted and I wasn't aware of how to pronounce it the way she wanted me to??? Ridiculous who cares! I am just placing an order !! Arrived to pick up my order , I was told it was not ready and I needed to wait another 15 mins . I didn't mind so I did. And I watched the women at the front desk having their own personal conversations along with their coworkers while everyone was either waiting for a table or their order. As it turns out my order was behind her all along and she didn't even notice for another 10 mins ??? Then I proceeded to ask her if they were pieces of toasted bread and she claimed they were. Needles to say there was only one piece . ONe slice ! And my steak was over cooked :( and burned . Soo many choices with Cuban food, I doubt I'll return to this place . read more
