We went there on 09/30/21 that day the food was horrible, I mean really bad which is hard to do to churrasco, tostones, arroz Amarillo. The strawberry shake was good. My mom ordered salmon con vegetables and the vegetables were uncooked inedible with nothing on top. I am not leaving a terribly bad review because the prior week we went there and the food was excellent. Having said this my family will not go back to the restaurant because it's truly inexcusable to serve such low quality crappy food to your customers, I complained and the waitress told me that they had new cooks and servers. Where was the manager or supervisor in all this? Being Cuban, I always give Cuban restaurants a chance when in the mood for comfort food. La Carreta is close to my house making it the option that I chose this past Friday night. The place was packed with happy customers! I must admit, growing up with a father who owned a Cuban restaurant, that this cuisine is not my favorite. With that being said, I did enjoy some the selections that I ordered. For appetizers, we had croquettes which came out hot and just made. For my entrée I ordered a club sandwich, which was overall OK. The ham and turkey on the club sandwich we're not of the highest quality. I ordered unsweetened iced tea as I usually do whenever I am out and about and could not even drink three sips. The ice tea tasted like tapwater. In the future, I will be returning to La Carreta for the occasional window service and ordering my Express problem. The rice was tough and had hard pieces in it and the sweet plantains were also served too cold. My son had the Lechon Asado (roasted pork) which sadly was not only warm, but just didn't t taste right. The fries that came with it were stale. My tiger son ordered the Pan con Bistec (steak sandwich) and it was ok, but the meat was gummy on some parts and it was also served warm. The lemonade was on the sour side but still delicious, i had the ham croquetas and shrimp tostones as my appetizer. Normally i'm a sucker for croquetas but these were a little lack luster and tasted like the ones you buy in bulk for events. The shrimp tostones were the highlight of the night, i can't even put it in words how amazing they tasted. Caesar salad was pretty decent, though it had a weird after taste but i believe that was just because they put too much dressing, i would order it on the side next time. In my mind, there are 2 scenarios coming to La Carreta: Going for Pastelitos OR Going for Breakfast. If you're going to get pastelitos, it's gonna be great. Their spinach empanada was surprisingly really good (coming from someone who isn't too crazy about spinach) and honestly, the guava pastries here are better than most Cuban bakeries I know of. Like honestly, I've never had a better guava pastelito! As for Breakfast however...there are issues. My homefries and eggs came out cold and unsalted. I also always get my eggs undercooked than how I ordered them every time I come here, so please be sure to order your eggs well done if you want it medium. I was on my way to another Cuban restaurant for breakfast when I decided to give this location a try for breakfast. Was seated right away. Was quickly greeted by the waitress. Ordered the Carretero Breakfast, which came with a the following chose: Fried or Scrambled Eggs with 2 Croquettes, Ham, Bacon, or Sausage. All Breakfast Combos come with Cuban Toast, potatoes or grits, and a coffee. I decided to go with Scrambled Eggs the 2 Croquettes, Bacon, Cuban Toast, no potatoes, and the Cuban coffee. The scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly and really good. The croquettes were perfect. The Cuban Toast had just the right amount of butter! The bacon was ok, a little greasier then normal. It's served with a side of very strong garlic sauce Cuban Sandwich, regular, a good sized sandwich was good, not the best though. The ingredients either make or break the quality. The principal has to be the Cuban bread. Chicharrones de pollo(chunks of fried chicken) were meaty and savory, not greasy. When the order was delivered it was missing the bread. I called to let them know the bread was missing and the woman who took the order told me bread was optional. I told her that I knew that and that's why I had asked for it specifically. She must have been in a bad mood because she started arguing loudly. I can understand a mistake, we are all human.
