La Connessa, you're just gorgeous! I've been wanting to come here, one of the hottest SF restaurants for months. Be sure to grab a reservation weeks in advance, or else you'll be subject to a walk in at their gorgeous bar. We made a reservation over a month in advance for a Saturday 5pm dinner several weeks ago. They let us in a few minutes early and we were seated at a nice size table for two of us near the door. The service here was wonderful and so friendly, especially our waitress, Andra. Andra even asked us when another table for two opened up if we wanted to be put there, but we decided to stay where we were. We shared the prosciutto with gnocco frito, Brussels sprouts, tagliatelle Bolognese, and the pollo al mattone. I also loved how they had some fresh fruit juices for a mocktail, I chose a passion fruit and mint concoction. First up were the brussels sprouts and the gnocco frito. The gnocco frito was a lightly filled (more hallow) beignet, fried dough is always so tasty, and the accompanying prosciutto was really fresh and not the slightest bit overly salty. The brussels sprouts were light with no heavy anchovy taste, straightforward but good overall, an easy way to get those veggies in! I thought the taglietelle was one of the best we've ever had. Although it's heavier than the lemon pasta we were deciding between, it was not a gut bomb at all. The bolognese was al dente, super flavorful and I love how I could totally taste the vegetables in the sauce, not just the beef. The aged parmiggano wasn't heavy handed either. Lastly, the chicken was highly recommended by our wonderful waitress. She didn't steer us wrong, as the juicy chicken was pressed which made the skin was really crispy, lots of fresh lemon and capers flavored the chicken, and the onions providing sweetness to the dish. It was a lovely date night dinner paired with friendly and attentive service, delicious food, and a 'Gramable atmosphere. There is a 20% automatic tip, which I didn't mind, since it took away the need to do math, and the service was great. While some of the dishes are a bit on the pricey side, it's expensive to operate in SF, so I totally get it. We'll be back in the future for another date night, or a late breakfast, lunch and dinner restaurant hop, since Magic Donut, Original Louie's, and La Connessa are next door to each other and under the same ownership. Came for restaurant wk, and the bites were individually superb although planned and paired very poorly in the restaurant week menu due to the overload of carbs. Almost every single dish on it was bread based, and although they were all really good, we couldn't help but have a hard time finishing our food...esp the breakfast pizza w the potatoes and egg yolk on dough. I enjoyed the ricotta toast, but it became heavy real quick with the nuttiness+sweet+bread+oil combo. The salmon dish was a lil too salty, according to my friends who got it. The Italian toast was probably my favorite - it was fluffy, not too sweet, and the vanilla bean whipped cream it came with was beautiful. Again, I would've enjoyed it more if I hadn't had 3 pieces of toast right before it but it do be like that sometimes. The breakfast pizza was my least fav - there was nothing to balance out the potatoes and yolk and onions on a no sauce pizza. Something spicy or any other kick would have helped a lot to cut the heavy flavor, but it felt very one noted. The space itself is SUPER nice and pretty, with lots of seating and clean interior! Really nice decor and ambiance and excellent service. We went within their first month of opening and they were very tactful and noted it was our anniversary and gave us two complimentary glasses of Prosecco. We got their arancini balls, a fungi pizza (our fav dish), the lemon pasta and tagliatelle bolognese. Reserved this place for valentines day. My wife is vegetarian. I called ahead because the options were subpar. Hostess tells me they can accomadate just tell the server and the server will talk to the chef. Chef Is aware. Showed up told the server. Server gave us Hella attitude, completely ignored me, told us the menu is fixed. I ended up speaking to the manager. Manager said ok we will modify your orders. Server comes back. Says the same thing. Menu is fixed. Talk to the manager again. For over $150 a person and calling ahead, I expect better. You should expect better. I don't recommend this place. Am never going there again. Vegetarian options are horrible. I eat meat but if we're guna be treated this way I'm not going there and you shouldn't either. I was craving some after dinner drinks and happened to find this place - I quickly made a reservation and was able to get a table for 4 at around 7! The espresso martinis were amazing, albeit strong and I actually wasn't able to sleep that night. Our waiter was also so friendly, and gave us just the right amount of attention. I came here for a friends birthday and was really excited to dine in! All of the reservations were completely booked but they managed to squeeze us in at 8pm. The restaurant was completely packed even though it was only going to be open for only a little more time. The service was a little slow but expected since the restaurant was so busy. We ordered the squash fritto, margherita pizza, yukon potato pizza, and the lemon spaghetti. The squash fritto was amazing! I loved the ricotta sauce that came with it. The potato pizza was also great, it was very very filling. I had also gotten the Freewheeler spirit free drink, and I was not a fan of it. My friend's N/A spritz was good, so I'd take that one over the one I got! Overall, I think this is a good Italian restaurant in SF :) read more

First off, the restaurant is gorgeous! Dimly lit, beautiful bar setting, cozy seats. What a vibe. It's a great place for date night or dinner with the girls. I made reservations a few weeks in advance via OpenTable. Street parking was easy to find on a Monday night, and it's a quieter neighborhood of SF. Our server was very knowledgeable on the menu and offered a great recommendation for our starter - the focaccia di recco. It's basically thin and crispy focaccia topped with olive oil, sea salt, and stracchino cheese. He said it was one of their most popular options that many guests come back for, so of course we had to try it. At $20, we were skeptical. However, it ended up being one of our favorites of the night! It was basically thin, crispy, cheesy bread, which honestly doesn't sound like much - but it was SO GOOD. Just get this! Our server recommended we try it with the burrata or tuna carpaccio next time. We also ordered the Tuscan chicken liver crostini as an antipasti which was delicious though I wish the crostini was crispy. For our pasta, we went for the tagliatelle bolognese. The pasta was cooked al dente and the sauce was pretty good, though I wish there was a bit more of it and also a little more cheese. Not bad at all, but I thought it was a pretty basic bolognese. Lastly, we ordered the funghi pizza which was also recommended by our server. This was a great pizza, loved the hen of the woods mushrooms paired with lots of garlic. (No garlic breath afterwards though, don't worry!). The pizza dough/crust was very good and chewy. Highly recommend! We didn't end up getting dessert because were already so full afterwards, but saw that they have house-made gelato and a tiramisu that looked delicious. 20% gratuity is automatically added to your bill along with a small fee for the SF Health Mandate. 2.5 stars Maybe I came on a bad day since other reviews are stellar but I was quite underwhelmed by the experience. We ordered the seafood pasta and funghi pizza. Funghi pizza came out first; it was okay. There were generous amounts of hen-of-the-woods but I wish there were more than one type of mushroom for variety and maybe some truffle oil for extra taste. The seafood pasta was something I would not recommend at all. The noodles were nowhere close to Al dente and the sauce was super bland that my boyfriend and I added heaps of chili flakes and Parmesan in an attempt to season it ourselves. It felt like a dish I would throw together at home. I wish I tried the tagliatelle since the reviews for that were good. Service was also quite slow; our server didn't come until around 15 minutes after we were seated. She was very friendly though. On a Friday night it was pretty packed but thankfully we had reservations so we were seated right away. The ambiance was amazing with a beautiful bar as the main backdrop. Perfect for our date night but also for a girls' night out. I saw a table of two women behind us that was having the greatest of times catching up (heart). The service was also very attentive - our water glasses never reached too low and the food came out at a nice pace. The only thing was we barely took any of our server's recommendations haha. As for the food and drinks. I've come here before so had to order the Tomatini again. This is a savory martini, think both a martini and a light tomato soup or a hint of a Bloody Mary. Also have to get extra olives with it! Their Gorgonzola stuffed olives are so yummy. We had the duck liver crostini (really liked, our favorite for the night), the little gems salad (good Caesar salad, but nothing special), lemon spaghetti (ok) and prosciutto pizza (pretty good, nice crust). We ordered roasted Brussels sprouts, artichokes, chicories and persimmons, beets and burrata for appetizers. My absolute favorite was the chicories and persimmons. For mains, we had the ricotta gnocchi, tagliatelle bolognese, local rock cod, and pizza funghi. The fish was absolutely delicious. The mushroom smell really comes through and the dough was just right. Tagliatelle bolognese got fresh pasta that were cooked right. It got the nice bounce and the bite. Full of life. The ricotta gnocchi was okay. It could have been a little lighter/pillowy but it was okay. We also had the apple crostata and chocolate bonet for dessert. The apple crostata was amazing. The crust balanced out the main component so well. The apple came through big time. The chocolate bonet was a little disappointing. I got the caramel and coffee but couldn't taste the chocolate... I had a greyhounds tooth cocktail and some jasmine tea. The cocktail was delicious and very citrusy. The jasmine tea was served in cast iron pot on a wooden tray with classic white English tea cup. We ordered: -- antipasti: properly-citrusy Castelvetrano Olives ($10); Arancini ($16) with crisp breading & flavorful interior; & Beets & Burrata ($22) which had a nice crunch from the candied hazelnuts. -- Triangoli ($31): as the name suggests, triangle-shaped pasta filled with ricotta & topped with amaretti with a sweet/savory brown butter sauce. The waiting staff took very long to check on us and he was standing at one corner. He wasn't very enthusiastic when introducing the dessert menu either. Very odd. - Arrancini: very good - Stone fruit arugula salad: the dressing had a little too much vinegar for my liking - Trofi pasta with octopus ragu: excellent in al dente-ness. Strong flavor. This is a great addition to the Portero Hill neighborhood. Elevated Italian food served in a slightly upscale bistro setting. The room is beautiful and just popping in for a drink and bite at the bar is worth it. Because it's in one of the warehouse parts of Potrero, there is ample parking. We went for dinner with some friends. Were concerned it would be really noisy with the open plan and tile floors, but while it was vibrant and buzzy, we were able to easily carry on our conversation throughout the evening. We were seated promptly and service was great throughout the night. We ended up ordering on the lighter side: one main, one pizza, one pasta, and two antipasti for the four of us. Was totally enough food! The pasta serving was a bit small, so would maybe order one more pasta in the future, but only because it was so delicious! Everything we had was deeply satisfying. The funghi pizza was crisp and loaded with mushrooms. The chicken mattonne (under brick) was moist and tender, though was just chicken, ie, would recommend to order a side salad or vegetable if that's your main. Seafood pasta was full of goodies. All easily shareable. Finished with the apple tart and chocolate budino - both of which disappeared in seconds. Server was very attentive, and we never felt rushed. If I wanted to be mansplained I would have gone to Buffalo Wild Wings. Service was horrendous. Waiter was so disrespectful. We came for my friend's birthday and he made a comment that it wasn't really her birthday. Tried to upsell us on bottled water when we insisted tap was fine ( we live in sf seriously?). Questioned why we needed salt. Questioned our food allergy. No respect for food allergies clearly because my friend was served a dish we flagged to make sure was omitted an ingredient. My trio shared the Little Gem salad, Beets & Burrata and Funghi pizza. All were good but I especially liked the pizza. The crust had the perfect chew but for 6 small slices at $30, it's priced higher than equally good ones I've had elsewhere. For mains, I had the rock cod w/ escarole and artichoke, friends had the Pollo Al Mattone and ribeye. There were only 2 small edible pieces of artichoke with my cod and mostly tough, fibrous inedible leaves. We agreed the mains were underwhelming. For dessert we shared the Apple Crostada, Tiramisu and Chocolate Budino which were all very good. We lingered awhile to finish catching up and I was pretty thirsty but our waiter never bothered to refill our empty water glasses after taking the empty bottle of water. The handful of times that we have been here is what stands out.... Mushroom Risotto- if they have any risotto on the menu in the future I will order that first! Our favorite dish of the entire table. Agnolotti- perfectly cooked and flavorful! -this is a small portion and each time I have been there really is only 5 bites to this dish. If a 4 top each had one bite with 3 little pastas on it- you are only getting one bite. We've had it a few times- but really believe this dish portion needs to be a tad more. Last time I ordered it for take out I opened the box and said "shootz I got someone's doggy bag!" No- the portion is really that small. Don't order it for your main entree alone. Fish dish- this time was a rock cod perfectly cooked with a tasty leek broth. Tiramisu, Panna Cotta, Strawberry Crostada- ALL HEAVENLY! Tagliatelle Bolognese- pasta great, sauce just ok. Burrata dishes are great starters and better than the gem salad. Pepperoni Pizza- very thin crust, every spot is filled with pepperoni. Very easy street parking, service is excellent! -except when it's busy. If it's busy there are many people servicing the table so no one takes true accountability.
