We stopped in for the first time last night. It was pretty empty, but that's not a problem. The waitress was very sweet and friendly! I had the shrimp scampi which I thought was amazing, but everyone else wasn't as pleased with their choices. They had the fettuccini alfredo, veal picatta, and a ribeye. The verdict is still out on this place for me. My hubby and I visited on a Saturday evening. It was pretty busy, but we were seated pretty quickly. After ordering, our waitress quickly brought over garlic knots and disappeared for no lie - 35 minutes. We tried to flag her down several times as my salad appeared to be taking a long time to come out. Finally she came to our table and asked - ready for salads? Um, what?! The Caesar salad was extremely bland and had store bought croutons. Of course, my entree arrived two minutes later. I ordered the lobster ravioli, which was a terrible choice. It tasted far from homemade and reminded me of something that came from the freezer section. The "pink" sauce was actually pretty good, but the pasta was dense and the filling flavorless. I was extremely disappointed with my dish. My husband on the other hand ordered the shrimp and steak Marsala. I tried the shrimp and they were very tasty. His side of pasta was also pretty good. I won't rush back by any means, but I'm willing to consider giving them another try. The service timing was definitely off and my meal was a fail, but I did enjoy my husbands meal and liked the garlic knots. read more

Took my girlfriend here on a date, and I wasn't disappointed! The ambiance was romantic and it was just the right amount of busy. The food was fresh and the wine was amazing. I'm not sure if there was an event going on, but there was live music (mostly oldies and classics). Great service to top it off. We have been living in or near Baton Rouge for a very long time. La Contea is going to now be our place to dine out for fine Italian food locally . I had been in virginia on a trip, so my husband came here twice in June and he kept telling me " you've just got to try this new place". It's difficult to impress hubby, because he has been in Europe and we lived in Europe years ago. But, I am very pleased that fine , elegant and delicious entrees are now a part of Redstick. We have eaten at all of the local places, and in our opinion, La Contea now will be at the top of our list . The foods are so full of flavor! His chicken picatta, which I tasted, is off of the charts delicious. I ordered the pasta with red sauce, and we shared the fried mozzarella appetizer . These dishes were superior and fresh tasting... as if your Italian grandmother had been in the kitchen all day.. you can taste the difference in flavor and texture when a dish is freshly prepared. This is almost the end of restaurant week now. We ordered off of the extensive menu. There are two other restaurants in other states that we can compare This restaurant to... one is Mama Cs in Richmond, VA-Mama Cs offers " veal saltimboca", stuffed home made manicotti and home made ravioli with a walnut cheese cream sauce. I know that La Contea has the ability to equal the quality and flavor of Mama Cs. Also, the decor and ambiance at La Contea is quite elegant. Their noise baffling ceiling and subtle wooden space dividers allow for privacy and the decor and lighting design is very nicely arranged . This restaurant does have a private area for a small party etc. I would say that the ambiance is quiet and romantic with lighting that is bright on the perimeter, and soft elsewhere . The servers are helpful and friendly . As far as pricing, we had a full meal for two, no alcohol, salads and garlic knots and one shared appetizer for about 60 plus tip. This is less costly than other competitors we have frequented . I know that they do offer live music some evenings, in case this appeals to you. I see on their website that they offer a delivery service , which would come in handy for some. The food is flavorful, the ambiance or the mood is relaxed and calm, and they do offer an array of choices... try this place and see how delicious it is. read more

I went for lunch because we were craving pasta. It was a late lunch after 12:30 and no crowd at all and easy to find. It looks nice enough for a date night with the cloth table covers and napkins. The lunch entree with drink was $14. I got the chicken with mushrooms (can't recall name lol) but it was a chicken that was so tender! With mushroom and a creamy sauce over pasta. The side Caesar is light and fresh! Croutons are yum buttery! I had refreshing ice tea. The lunch portion is big and you can bring home half or keep going lol! I tasted my friends dish and it was sooooo good! She got the chicken parm and the chicken was crispy and tender with a light tomato chunky sauce on the sweeter side but not too sweet. I wish I could do a combo plate because I wanted her dish and mine!! She got the house salad with fresh greens and a creamy Italian dressing. It has sliced tomatoes and red onions but u can see them if u need to pick them off! The service was great and food came on time. My wife and I were in town to visit family and enjoyed a great meal with son/wife and daughter. In all, 5 of us and not a bad bite between us. Ambiance and location? Great. Service? Top notch. Wine pour? Generous. Happy hour appetizers 50% off on Friday at 5:55 worked for us. A nice addition to the Baton Rouge semi upscale Italian dining experience and, at $147+tip for 5 (with several alcoholic beverages and appetizers), quite reasonably priced for the quality of the meals. The food is cheap and unseasoned. The music is not very good and loud. The manager is unprofessional, and not a good one. The servers seem to be new every week, and the bartender does not know how to even make a French 75. It is made with gin not vodka a French 76 is vodka and in their French 75 they put vanilla vodka. That does not even make sense. Overpriced and I will not be going back. They advertise brunch on their online menu and they no longer offer brunch, the management claims they have no time to fix it. What is the point of being a restaurant if you do not fix what is wrong? A manager who cannot take constructive criticism without crying is not a good one. Pretty cool new spot in town. It popped up as a new "trending restaurant" in town. We will definitely be going back. We went around 9pm and were hoping to grab a quick bite, and we did! My boyfriend got the Marsala. It was pretty decent. I got the baked ziti and it was excellent! We were in and out in 35 minutes and the bill was only around $35. I couldn't believe it. I consulted Yelp on a Sunday evening after all of my favorite places were closed. My fiancé and I saw the 'hot and new' icon next to La Contea and decided to try it. We had no expectations going in, but thought the menu looked great and was reasonably priced. We were pleasantly surprised to see the nice decor when we walked into the restaurant, and our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We took a few minutes to decide what to get and ended up ordering wine, two appetizers (fried cheese, bruschetta), and two main courses (a seafood pasta dish and eggplant parm) each with a salad. I was surprised to see Clos du Bois on the menu at such a reasonable price, and the pour was generous. The salads came out very fast and we were pleased to find that they were on larger plates rather than being piled onto a small saucer (which encourages spilling). And yay for no annoying cherry tomatoes! The appetizers came out shortly after along with a complimentary order of warm garlic knots. The bruschetta was wonderful and light, and the cheese was good also. The garlic knots were tasty with the marinara sauce that came with the appetizers, and we had no problem finishing them. Our entrees came out quickly and were delicious! My fiancé loved his pasta and finished it all. He said the mussels were cooked especially well. My eggplant was sliced longways which was a fun surprise and the pasta was plentiful. The taste was on point and comparable to any high end Italian place in Baton Rouge. Throughout our dinner we could not stop raving about how much we enjoyed the meal, the service, and how varied and reasonable the menu items were priced. Bonus: the Italian cooking station was playing on Pandora! We were way too full to eat dessert so we ordered Tiramisu to go, and were very satisfied with it later when we ate it. Delicious. I read the review in 225 Magazine then "menu-stalked" here on Yelp. After doing all that, I convinced myself that I needed to try the chicken parmesan... so I did! It was sooooo good. The chicken parmesan is an option on their lunch menu for $8.95: it comes with salad, garlic knots and the entree. The portion size was more than enough, I actually have enough for dinner. Used a 225 deal to give this place a shot. Sorry to say, this was one of the strangest restaurant experiences I've ever had. Main reason: they have a guy who walks around the tables with a wireless mic singing to insanely loud karaoke tracks. Even stranger, there were tables that really seem to enjoy that! It was very awkward... Our waitress was brutally honest about the quality of the food. Pretty hilarious, because she was right it wasn't good. Well well well, I am impressed. My wife and I were interested in trying a new place in BR. Being that Italian is one of my favorites we did some (YELP) research and stumbled across La Contea. Nestled in an unassuming strip mall, we didn't expect much but we were pleasantly surprised. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by two smiling hostesses, a REAL PERSON providing music per grand piano, and a display of the desserts being offered that night. We were sat immediately and I was impressed by the modern decor that complimented the ambiance well. The menu ranged from classic Italian dishes such as Veal Picatta to American Favoties such as Baked Ziti and Pizza. The range of items impressed me and the full bar provided the option for a variety of drinks. The wait staff went OVER AND BEYOND to ensure that our needs were met. Our waiter, Chase, described menu items to us and even found a way to make a Espresso Martini for my wife (off menu). We selected the Calamari for an app and it was light and delicious. My wife selected the Seafood la Contea ... the shrimp and scallops were cooked to the perfection and the wine butter sauce was tasty. I opted for the Veal Picatta and the Taste was authentic and seasoned well. I was so impressed with the portion and temperature of the dishes, the kitchen pays attention to detail. For dessert, the Tiramisu was delicious. A manager made sure to visit the table towards the end of our meal to ensure that all of our needs were met. The host immediately looked us up and down as if we didn't belong there and it was obvious they did not want to seat us. Went for an easy Saturday dinner and only one other family was there. The waiter was prompt. Ordered cocktails which were average. My husband had a chicken and pasta dish which he thoroughly enjoyed and I had the fettuccine with a white clam sauce that was very good. Had to ask for the garlic bread. We were close to the open kitchen door and since we were there around 4 PM, we heard all the pounding of chicken and veal cutlets being prepared for the coming dinner meals. (At least we know it's freshly prepared!) The tiramisu was nice and light and we were given a gratis creme brûlée which was unfortunately on the dense side. We walked into this place and were asked for our reservation, the place was empty. Once we were seated the waiter greeted us and was EXTREMELY sarcastic and rude. We told him it was our first time dining there and that we were from Lafayette. His reply was "oh that makes sense, really classing the place up aren't you?" Judging from the prices of this place, none of us thought we had to be in a suit and tie to dine here. Each of us wearing jeans, nice shoes, cardigans, and a tank top or nice shirt. One of our party members is from England and was mocked by the waiter when she tried to order water. I ordered the supreme pizza to go yesterday. There was nothing memorable about it. Very bland. They said it would be ready in 15-20 minutes, and it was, which makes me think it was a frozen, not freshly-made pizza. My husband and I ate in the restaurant on one occasion earlier. A wonderful space, carefully designed to eliminate noise and very attractive. It is a shame people dress in their painting clothing to go out to eat; as this space was designed for more than that. Our food was good, the drinks came quickly. Some issues with service but It appeared to be just our table as everyone else was well served. This is my favorite Italian restaurant . I have yet to get a "bad" entree! The tomato basil soup is delicious! I can't say I have a favorite entree because every one is AMAZING! Wife & I had Sun lunch. Lunch menu was on display sign outside. When asked for "Lunch" menu, told only serve lunch menu Mon.-Fri. I had the Alfredo with chicken which was good. Sauce had nice consistancy but chicken seemed boiled with little flavor. Would not order with chicken again. Wife had spaghetti with marinara sauce. Sauce had nice tomato consistancy. My friend and I went for lunch. We both ordered off the lunch menu. He got the chicken picatta and I got the chicken parmigiana. He said he liked his. I liked the chicken parmigiana as well. I thought the red sauce was excellent. The bread was good too, with a butter and garlic flavor. There are 13 items on the lunch menu, starting at $7.95. Each item comes with a salad and bread. The restaurant was nice inside, and pretty quiet. As for the service, we had a new waitress. She was a little tentative but very friendly and dropped in on us several times.
