We were early for a campus tour so stopped by for a snack at the Silo. Cozy atmosphere and pleasant surprise. The omelette crepe we had was amazing. It was stuffed with mushrooms and avocado, and goo-ey cheese. It also came with a nice side salad. Definitely filling. I only docked it a star because the sugar and cinnamon crepe wasn't great, not awful, but not great. It disn't have the delicacy of an actual crepe and seemed more like chewy dough sprinkled with sugar. However the omelette crepe and the atmosphere made up for it. I believe they currently go by Crepe Bistro, but this place is a MUST TRY. I'm vegetarian, and my go to is their Ratatouille Crepe, which is flavorful and filling and just incredible. I also love their Stranana for something sweeter, or the Popeye for a bit of a different flavor. But no matter what you order, you won't be disappointed. The savory crepes also come with a small salad in the side :) They just opened their takeout service in line with COVID protocol a few weeks ago, and you still get to watch your crepe being made. Also super decently priced and they take Aggie Cash! The owners are the most adorable couple, Michele and Anne, who have been running this place for twenty years. Michele cooks all the crepes, and is originally from France, having owned multiple restaurants prior to this one. Needless to say, he knows what he is doing and he does it WELL. I might not have understood the item but the Crepe Suzette was underwhelming and overall disappointing. The Crepe was too thick, the orange marmalade didn't pair well with the thick chewiness of the Crepe. They also poured some kind of sauce on top of it that tasted like alcohol (I'm not sure if that's basically what it was or if it was supposed to mimic that) however, it ruined the whole crepe including the whipped cream that was on top of it. Next time, I'm getting a different crepe. Maybe a savory one that my friend recommended. The cashier also forgot to ask me if I was ok with the extra charge for whipped cream. Pleasantly surprised by my first time at La Crepe in the UCD Silo (signage says Crepe Bistro). The savory mushroom and cheese crepe I ordered was chock full of flavorful sautéed mushrooms, just the right amount of cheese, and a lovely soft but crisp grainy crepe. I'm not sure if the crepe batter was buckwheat or wheat (as the crepes I ate in France were made with buckwheat) but I loved it! My two-ingredient crepe was plenty filling and came with a nice side salad of lightly dressed greens-all for under $8! Fast and friendly service. Remember that scene with the food critic in Ratatouille? He takes a bite of something on his plate and he is instantly transported back to his childhood? This just happened to me! These are the same crepes that were at The Crepe Bistro in downtown Davis on E St way back in 80s when the late Max Bach and wife Huguette, along with their partner, ran this place into the late 80s/early 90s when a fire ruined the business. That partner is back and he actually recognized me the other day when I stood politely behind the gaggle of UCD students at the Silo, patiently ordering their crepes. I had what I used to order then: the coq au vin crepe, with a distinctive white mornay sauce. The taste was the same ---fluffy, tender, bursting with mushrooms and seasoned chicken, and accompanied by a green salad. And for just under or over $10, I would say that was a very satisfying lunch on a spring sunny afternoon on campus. This is a big deal! I used to get these crepes when they were downtown all the time ---can you say frequent French Club meetings, fondue, and the cute Eiffel Towers they used for the numbers? Or their iced teas that later became famous at the Good Earth chain? Remember?? This is too much. Crepes by a Frenchman. How much more authentic can you get? I love love this place. I usually come here for lunch, but the lines can be quite long during the school year. My favorite is the Kathmandu crepe which is basically curry chicken with mushrooms and mango chutney on top. They even have ratatouille which is a vegetable stew like thing. Really yummy! You can even watch them while they make your crepe. Even before I started chasing magic curry carts, amuse bouche carts and creme brulee carts, there was my very first food cart. I was still a student at Davis, part of a normal routine when I was pulling an all nighter was work through the night on campus in Walker hall, usually after making my deadlines, I would reward myself by making my way over to the Silo grab a cup of coffee, and got to the crepe cart, at this station it's different from the campus, he was actually with another company, so I didn't have some college student making my crepe. The one guy I really liked was this very friendly frenchman. (michael) He would always greet me warmly with a smile, and always knew I was coming for his crepe suzette, I loved the zesty aroma of the oranges, the sweetness of the sugar encased in a thin but fluffy crepe that is slowly absorbing the carmelly, sweet smokeyness from the Grand Marnier that he generously splashes on. Each bite was almost a fluffy cloud of heaven, and almost made me forgot all the stress I was dealing with moments earlier. A feeling of warm content washes over my body and maybe from the sleep deprivation, or maybe it's the booze, or even a combination of the too, still having this little nightcap before I go to bed feels great. And yes I am aware it's only 1:00 pm... These days, while my all-nighters have almost come to an end, my cravings for another crepe suzette has not. I would give this place a 3.5 but I'm sticking with 3 because yelp says 3 is "A-ok" and I like this place but i'm not a real fan because I don't really come back that often. They should call this place Crepes to Die For! OMG where do I start, for foodie first trying food crepes as they should be like in France, these crepes are worth any drive or wait. I just wished they opened longer. The crepes are authentic and the stand has been on campus for at least 10years but sadly does not intend on opening an establishment outside of campus. =( Tip: stand is open during UC Davis school semester times and closes earrly on Fridays I wanna say about 3pm. And doesn't open on weekends which make this place a necessity for any student to try. Granted there are a lot of crepe type items offered at milk tea places or even gelato stores but those crepes don't come with fresh French style sauce and ingredients. I absolutely Love the Coq A Vin which I get with WHEAT dough. Not a lot of places give you the option between white or wheat. This crepe has coq a vin sauce, chicken, spinach and mushrooms with cheese. They also have another crepe with similar ingredients except brocolli instead of spinach which is also great. And as filling as this meal will be make sure you save your stomach for desert. Choose from fruits and nutella or just plain melted chocolate chips. This location is centrally located on campus at the silo. The Crepes are very filling and they have a variety of different fillings and options for veggie lovers as well. I ordered the Kathmandu crepe , it has chicken, mushrooms, and topped with 2 sauces , a curry sauce and a sweet sauce. This is my favorite crepe here that I've tried, the sauce is not too sweet , perfect combo to eat with the crepe . The size of the Crepes are decent , well your money's worth ~7 dollars and they make it fresh in front of you as you wait , fresh warm Crepes are guaranteed ! The staff is very friendly , during school the line gets kind of long and it's about a 5-10 minute wait for the food depending on how busy they are. What you may not know is chef Daniel sold his amazing soup and sandwich spot in downtown sac, then had an amazing restaurant but retired. ALL of chef Daniel's food is amazing! At his restaurant, you order your main dish, included in that price is a salad or soup or other starter that he felt like making for you - you didn't order it. And a dessert he felt like making. That's how confident he is in his food. You can pick your main (state any dietary restrictions or preferences) and he makes accompaniments as he feels is appropriate based on what's in season or his whim. I am rating this place 5 stars for their unconditional love and kindness, even when it was my first time there! This restaurant is located in the UC Davis Silo, and as a 1st year student, I went there for the first time in the Spring when a colleague recommended it. Even though I didn't know the restaurant, the workers or anyone, they greeted me with the biggest smile, and a warm welcoming. When I was ordering, they had a genuine conversation with me! They explained to me how they have been running this restaurant for years as best friends, and how precious this place is to their hearts. The BEST part was that as I was about to finish ordering, the cashier gave me a free mini-Eiffel Tower keychain. The crepes here are super good! I usually get the coq au vin crepe. It comes with mushrooms , chicken, and cheese with mornay sauce. It's pretty filling and fun to watch the chefs cook up your crepe. I've also tried the strawberry nutella crepe, it's pretty good, but I prefer the savory crepes. Sometimes, when I come during a slow hour, they give me a little salad on the side. my experience - la crepe is located inside the silo at UC Davis and you can use aggie cash here!! i came here because i heard that there was a crepe place on campus but turns out they also have paninis!! food - i haven't had the crepes yet (will update this review when i get a chance) but from their paninis it's so good! usually most items are under $10 depending if you want meat or not. i have gotten the three cheese panini with chicken and i am absolutely in love with it. i think the salad is just for looks because it's just a few leaves and the sauce but the food is filling and super fast! customer service - with the food being okay, their customer service is super great! you can make any accommodations you need but they really just have a great group of people working. ill be back for the crepe but i definitely think the atmosphere is great as well notes - located with this is also a peets coffee and another quick food place with fast food read more

Unlike the bastardized American versions, all equipped with the same oversized, colorful chalkboard menu (see: Crepeville/town/vine/city/universe . . . whatever - although, no hate, because those establishments are tasty in their own right, just not entirely authentic, or . . . you know, at all) Le Crepe is a legit (read: LEGIT) crepe stand at the UCD Silo run by a legit (read, again: LEGIT) French man. For all the complaining that I tend to participate in when it comes to Davis food options (blame the city of San Francisco for spoiling me for a good 20+ years prior to getting admitted into law school at UCD), I will enthusiastically and adamantly contest to the legit (okay, I'll stop) and delicious lunchtime option that La Crepe is. :) The skin of the chewy crepes shapes and wraps up a beautifully loaded square of deliciousness, chock full of whatever you're feeling for that day. "No, no, no," he starts off, tragically, and a little bit to my alarm. "You seem like such a wonderful person, mon cheri, and wonderful people deserve to eat wonderful foods, and I assure you that this crepe is meant to have cheese. I'll give you a little, okay? Thank the lord for Aggie Cash because I would have been broke by now! I dont know why, but their cheese makes me feel sick, so I get the crepes without cheese. I normally get my usual..pesto with mushrooms and onions! Its pretty damn good! It no longer fills me up though... FINALLY GROWING UP!!! Well..I dont have much in the crepe.. Alaine's (?) Avocado: TRY IT!!! TRY IT!! TRY IIT! This crepe will defnitely fill you up..I can never finish this crepe. Their Specials: Huge! Lots of cheese! usually around 7 bucks..but yummy! Tomato, pesto, cheese: delish! Their turkey is a bit too salty for me. I am not a big fan of rosemary, so I dont LOVE their rosemary chicken. My very first review will be dedicated to my Monday and Wednesday lunches! La (not Le!) Crepe is also the only reason I go to the Silo at all. I usually order the "crepe du jour" or the crepe of the day, which is typically unique from the menu. Everything is pretty well priced, except for the "your own crepe creation" section. You're probably better off choosing something from the daily special with similar ingredients that you want. I have yet to try a lot of customer favorites, but as of now everything has been pretty good. Suggestions include the Kathmandu, Alain's avocado, and the strawberry/banana Nutella crepe. Be careful of dishes with mushrooms, they are put into the crepes completely raw and usually don't get cooked at all. The chefs are extremely friendly and authentic; the 2 main guys both have French accents and usually try to strike up a conversation if there aren't a lot of customers in line. With omelette crepes and waffles as well, the menu offers a good variety of food for fairly reasonable prices. I'll be sure to return weekly :) read more

I finally have time to try Le Crepe! And boy am I satisfied. I ordered the Florentine crepe: mushrooms, spinach, chicken, and cheese on a wheat crepe. The ingredients are really fresh. They TASTE really fresh. I also love how the ingredients are blended so well together and how they are spread out throughout the entire crepe. I've stopped going to Crepeville because the ingredients are all centered, leaving empty corners. That's not the case here. Every single corner has tasty ingredients. Service is very friendly. I was greeted with smiles from the time I ordered until the time I received my crepe. And if you watch as the crepe is made, you can feel the care and passion put into creating each crepe. At least that's how I felt haha For the price, you get quantity AND quality. Le Crepe definitely beats other crepe places by a long run. SO. YUMMY. I've been here three times. The first time I came, I was a cheapo and ordered the crepe with strawberry preserves for $3 or $4. Since I was unaware that strawberry preserves simply meant strawberry jam, my crepe was mediocre at best. A bit too sickeningly-sweet for my liking, and it looked pathetically limp and skinny next to my friend's very puffed up and delicious-looking strawberry and Nutella crepe. I made a note to get that next time. The second time I came here was for a quick lunch with my roommate, and so I decided to go against my instincts (again) and order a healthy-ish lunch crepe. I chose the "Make your own crepe" menu, and made one with avocado, jack cheese, and mornay curry. Pretty good, although it made me feel ridiculously full and susceptible to a food coma. Not good for having to walk over to the library and figure out the drama going on with my Reg Card. The third time I came here was after History class in the morning--I was alone, and wanted a place to study (I've recently discovered that I can't study in my room because the walls are thin and people are extremely social and loud on my floor, and I can't study in the library because it's WAY too quiet--a pin drop would echo in there) that was a happy medium between noisy and quiet. I finally ordered the strawberry and Nutella crepe, which was divine. I winced at having to pay $7 for it (so sue me for being a cheap college student. I basically spent half of my summer earnings on damn textbooks), but then decided it was well worth it. Plus, a lot of studying got done until some girl with a loud, shrieking laugh came with her friend and decided to debrief on her shenanigans at the latest frat party. Davisites seem to care very much about their food, and others have repeatedly mentioned that this place is the only one in the Silo not run by Sodexho, a huge chain-food-conglomerate-evil-empire thing that the hippies don't like. Even ignoring that fact, it's the best food in the Silo, if not the best on campus. I've tried a variety of different lunch-like things here, and have had only positive experiences. Le Crepe is not associated with Sodexho, the food service company that Davis uses for the dining commons, but is located inside the Silo area. The crepes are very delicious and so much better than Crepeville! You can order breakfast, daily specials, dessert crepes, or customize your own crepe. Yum! I love how you have the option to order a wheat or white flour crepe. I get the wheat crepe to make it somewhat healthier. The staff is very friendly and the service is quick! The crepe is made within five minutes and then you can gobble the crepe. The portion for the crepe is very reasonable for the price. Most of the daily special crepes range from $5-$7. I've tried the following crepes: KATHMANDU- includes chicken, choice of cheese, mushrooms, curry sauce, and covered with a mango chutney. Yum! The chutney is awesome. FLORENTINE- includes chicken, mushroom, spinach, a mornay sauce, and choice of cheese. The flavor is less intense compared to the Kathmandu, but it's a good choice. For my next crepe, I want to try the Alvin's Avocado with cheese, tomatoes, mushrooms, and half an avocado!!! read more

Surrounded by fast food chains and Shahs, La Crepe is the sole "healthy" option in Silo. My go-to is a broccoli-bacon crepe, which maybe defeats the purpose of being a healthier alternative, but who cares! It comes out relatively quickly and it's nice watching them cook it right in front of you, but I wouldn't say they taste particularly great. Portions are okay, but I usually finish still hungry, whereas a nice shahs lunch will leave me full and happy :) Need to try a dessert crepe before I graduate though! read more

Pretty good crepes and you don't have to wait too long for your food. They have good savory options but i wish they had a few more sweet crepe options other than just the strawberry and nutella one. I also feel like $8 is too much for a crepe unless I'm not fully aware of normal crepe prices. A lot of people complain about the price here, but I feel like for what you get, the price is pretty reasonable. Giant crepes with fresh ingredients! I can never finish my crepe.
