My first impression is the outdoor-friendly design, with a bar that is half al fresco and the other half inside. Shutters can close the al fresco section out during inclement weather. It was a quiet evening, with a few diehard clients at the bar. I walked in, studied the rotating menu, and settled for the one wheat beer on the list: #18 Enegren Schoener Tag Hefeweizen (5%ABV) from Moorpark, CA. It was quite flavorful with good mouth feel. I sat al fresco at the bar looking in. I enjoyed the ambiance. The inside is designed for groups to sit together and talk while sampling beer or wine. Four TVs were on the wall as an afterthought. The beertender was busy cleaning equipment before closing, but he explained to me that while the beer list rotates, the first five are staples, dominated by sours and IPAs although several lagers are also available. There is plenty of parking in the rear although I noticed that lighting is only toward the strip mall. The rear spaces are dark. I asked about dogs. Only service dogs are allowed.

I don't even drink and I'm here all the time for the events. Run clubs, post yoga hangs, ladies nights, you name it, they've probably hosted it. Always packed, always a vibe, and super LGBTQ friendly. They bring in local vendors constantly, hair tinsel, mini tattoos, permanent jewelry, press on nails, makeup, even pajama pop ups. It's like a rotating showcase of Tucson creatives and I love that. Bonus points for the stocked bathroom with a full freshen up moment. Being in St. Philip's Plaza doesn't hurt either, one of the prettiest spots in town. The owners get it, the energy is right, and whoever runs their events deserves a raise. One of the bartender's first comments back, completely seriously, was, "I'm from San Diego. Have you never seen art before?" Honestly... what? It was such a weird, unnecessarily condescending response. I brushed it off at first as awkward banter, but it was a really strange first impression. The drinks were decent. The Loverlist was really good, and the Unicorn Fluff and Old Fashioned were fine. The bartender was quick to talk up their whiskey selection, but when we asked for a recommendation, she mostly gave reasons why she couldn't recommend anything and just kept saying they had "over 90 different options." Without a whiskey menu to look through, that wasn't especially helpful. We also asked for a shooter and were offered half of a cocktail instead. That would've been totally fine on its own, but combined with everything else, the service just never felt welcoming. We ended up leaving pretty quickly. The bread and butter is simple, but sometimes simple is exactly what you want with a glass of wine. But the star of the show for me was the pinto hummus.
