Can I just live here? Could there be three more of this place? Could they be open 24/7? Detroit was in need of a quality tapas place, and La Féria answered the call. Examine a giant wall map of España while sipping Spanish vino or a cocktail, and eat dish after dish of Spanish food. I'm a sucker for the olives here - reminds me of my time in Andalusia when fresh olives were often served the way that US bars serve pretzels or bar nuts. I also love a good cheese plate and La Feria's doesn't disappoint. Only one small complaint: they aren't always very good at estimating wait time. I've been there more than once when they said that the wait was more than an hour and it turned out to be only 20 minutes or so. They do have a bar area where you can have a drink and some light bites while you wait. So maybe have a loose schedule on a day you plan to visit. read more

Anyway, after taking our 9 hours board exams, my friend and I decided to come here for our "celebratory" dinner. We arrived around 8pm with two small tables available. Our waitress arrived promptly to serve us. We ordered: MEJILLONES (Mussels. White Wine Sauce. 7) - I love mussels in white wine sauce. Unfortunately, this is not even close to the best mussels I've had. Its not bad but not great. It comes with bread which is great for dipping in the white wine sauce. Our waitress didn't initially bring it but later remembered. I am glad she remembered. SOLOMILLO (Pork Loin. Pedro Ximenez Sauce. 7)- This was not good at all. It was very dry and boring. My friend didn't even finish hers. Comes with two pieces that you can cut up. GAMBA Y AIOLI (Shrimp. Aioli. Baguette. 5) Came with one......... with included two shrimps. We had to cut it up so both of us can have a taste. Um... wth... This is called tapaS. Sharing! SABOR DE ESPAÑA with Jambon- This is probably my second favorite. It comes with two. Just a piece of bread with a cured ham on it. We were still hungry so I asked the waitress what was the most popular tapa. She mentioned that she really like.... BOQUERONES (Cured Anchovies. Cozy spot with both indoor and outdoor patio seating. I can imagine it is less crowded during the week, but parking is street parking only. I was thrilled to see a tapas menu filled with a variety of options. I also loved their sangria. The pitcher is enough for four glasses, valued at the price of two. My friend and I ordered tortilla espanola, patatas bravas, egg plant, gambas ajillo, and a cheese board. Everything came out fairly quickly and the servings were large. The tortilla espanola was my least favorite because it lacked flavor. My favorite was the patatas bravas! I also enjoyed the variety of cheeses that came on our board. If you like an exceptionally strong blue cheese, ask for it! They have several. They have you covered. Also loved the sardines, olives, cheeses, cured meats, and seafood in a tin (divine!). Embarrassing customer service. Absolutely would not return. Came from nyc and was recommended to come here. I heard the food is AMAZING! My family and I made a reservation for 8pm. We walk in at 8pm and there were no tables available. All of us are having flashbacks of that Seinfeld episode; you know the one. The server let us know that they didn't hold a table for us and we'd have to wait. Typically, in this situation, the house would offer an apology at least and perhaps a glass of wine to pass the time as we wait. They wouldn't even make eye contact with us. Don't go. Visiting family in Michigan, all I have been eating is huge amounts of food (not that it's necessarily a bad thing). It was nice to go here for lunch and eat tapas, small plates that are shared with the table (something common at many Japanese bars). There is quite a selection of tapas to choose from and everything sounded good, making it even more difficult to decide! Fortunately, our server was very helpful and gave us recommendations, along with making sure our selection was well-rounded (we were recommended to choose about two plates each and share them). We ended up ordering about ten plates and everything was delicious! Seriously, there was not one bad dish. My favorite was the Tostada de Almogrote, or goat and sheep cheese spread on a baguette. If I could have had one thing changed, it would be to have the baguette dishes pre-cut. We all wanted to try a piece of it and had trouble dividing it with our knife at the table. However, I'm sure if we would have asked beforehand, they would have been accommodating. Had a great time here last night with my wife. The place is very small and they don't take reservations, but we got in and were seated at the bar right away. The food was on point, everything is appetizer sized which makes it easy to taste many dishes. My wife and split 4 dishes and were perfectly content with the amount of food we ate. Finally got a chance to try this place for lunch. Casual ambience. Service is fast. We tried the Champiñones, patatas bravas, Chicken croquettes, Tortilla Española. (Posted pics of all) We loved all of them. Compared to others, however, the Patatas Bravas is basically home cut potato fries with spicy tomato sauce and aioli. Taste is good, yet, ordinary compared to other dishes I mentioned. Dessert we had Flan which was delicious. Other places where I have tried Flan, I have experienced a raw taste of egg. My brother and I had lunch at La Feria earlier today and I'm not sure where to start, it simply wasn't that good. The service was pretty uninformed and unprofessional. We were Billy's only table - in an already very small and nearly empty restaurant - and the timing was still poor. He didn't seem like he had been serving for very long, which makes sense, since he's not of drinking age. Which we found out when he said he couldn't tell us anything about the wine because he's not old enough to try it. How does a restaurant that has an unconventional wine menu and quirky cocktails have a server that isn't allowed to know anything about that aspect of dining? Seems like a ridiculous oversight. The food was OK at times and then not great at all. We shared eight tapas, mostly hot, and then two desserts. The cured anchovies were lovely. Lightly cured, which was a relief because most anchovies have too much salt. The bread they were served on was also nice, crusty yet soft. The grilled sardines were really tasty as well. I like that it was the whole fish rather than a filet. It was cooked delicately, and the meat separated from the bones very easily. There were lots of little bones, but that's essentially unavoidable, and they're largely edible. The other six weren't very good. The manchego cheese was nice, but there was five times too much quince preserve on it. The ratio was almost 1:1, odd. The calamari was cut into rings, most of which wouldn't fit on your index finger, and almost all of which was breading. Either that or it was grossly over-fried, in any case it was the only dish we didn't finish. Out of the remaining dishes we tried, the fried eggplant and honey was my favourite. In contrast to the calamari, there was very little breading on the eggplant, and certainly not enough to ruin it. We had bread pudding and flan for dessert. The bread pudding I really enjoyed, the flan not so much. It didn't have much of the advertised caramel flavour, it just tasted like custard. The bread pudding, again, was good, but not as moist as I've had before. Despite not being able to get any information about it, the wine I tried, I did really enjoy. I had a white Ostatu and then a Balbas, a red. Both were unusual and very enjoyable. The restaurant itself is very nice. Beautiful photographs of Spain, mostly Sevilla, cover the walls, and the tables are made from a beautiful rugged wood, just lightly polished. The premise and design is terrific at La Feria but I thought the process and execution were quite poor. I considered giving a two star rating but ultimately I still wished this place was in Windsor. read more

A quaint little tapa bar in downtown Detroit. I'd highly recommend making sure you either get there early or you make sure that you party is of 4 or fewer people because the tables fill up quickly. If you have more than 4 people, you will be standing around and waiting for a while (although if you enjoy smelling and seeing all the varieties of tapas that go by while you wait, then it's not that bad). The restaurant has some Spanish mixed drinks that are phenomenal. The sangria is definitely a worthy drink if you can handle red wine and fruit. It's not overly sweet like some sangria I have had elsewhere. It also tasted very fresh. I did not have the premixed, sitting around taste that some restaurants try and pull off as "fresh sangria." The food is AMAZING. I went with a party of 4 and we all ordered a different tapa and shared them amongst the 4 of us. We were all thoroughly impressed by everything. The food came out from the kitchen quickly and tasted extremely fresh as well. The atmosphere was busy, but not overly loud. As previously mentioned it was rather cozy. My friends and I went for restaurant week. The restaurant was relatively packed and under staffed. After standing in the doorway for five minutes (no one bothered to greet us) we decided to seat ourselves. It was only then the bar tender/hostess asked if we had reservations and we confirmed we did. We sat for 20 minutes before being offered water. In that 20 minutes, the bar tender/ hostess decided updating the specials board was more important than waiting on paying customers. There was one server who casually ignored us as well. He check on every table around us (the restaurant is super small). We watched as the bar tender/hostess greeted another group of customers as they arrived, she sat them at a table, and quickly offered them water. It was in that moment, we decided that weren't valued customers and that we should leave. It was clear that we weren't welcomed. I should mention the male waiter finally came over ( after 25 mins) to offer an insincere apology. He didn't seem to mind that paying customers were upset and ready to leave. The bombas were just ok, I'm not sure if they tasted bland after eating the chicken, but I didn't let that affect the score. I was disappointed in the small amount of spicy beef inside. Finally the potatoes Bravo's was a huge disappointment, this dish is such a staple that I would have expected more. The potatoes were not evenly cooked and the sauce was bland. Service was also disappointing. The guy took my order, brought my food and I never heard from him again until I had to ask for check. Service: not much has changed. - wait staff, without exception, very friendly and very good. Ambiance: fun, happy place great for all sized groups. Very nice, cozy and comfortable, but a bit industrial. Drinks: nice selection of by the glass wines at reasonable prices. Great cocktail list. All reasonably priced. Food: oh how I want to like their food more. Kitchen disorganized and food comes out in random intervals. Long waits in between food coming. A few wrong items came, but we ate them anyway, figuring it would take too long. Charcuterie plate a bit underwhelming. Decent, but given the options they have, disappointing. The tortilla española was my favorite with the bacon wrapped dates coming in a close second. Prices are extremely reasonable - quality is incredible. Sangria was excellent - had 2 glasses and 2 glasses of white wine (both excellent.) If I had to be picky, the waitstaff was a bit slow at times and did forget a few things - but the vibe/atmosphere trumped that and really, for them to be that on top of their game for the first few days of being open - they're going to be rocking in a few weeks. Went with my 3 girlfriends to make use of a Groupon. I dont think any of us had incredibly high expectations, as we have all had our fair share of phenomenal tapas in our lives. That being said, we were extremely pleasantly surprised at how incredible every dish was. We ordered the bacon wrapped dates, baby octopus, fried potatoes, stuffed mushrooms, calamari, mussels and so much more. Every dish was fantastic and beyond what any of us had expected. We also got both the churros and the flan. And we were very glad of our decision to order both bc they were both delicious. Authentic tapas place in the heart of Detroit! I wish I had known about this place earlier. I would have all the items on their menu. It has around six tables and a good number of bar seats, but it does getting busy during weekends, lunch and dinner time. Try to sit at the bar so you can talk to the bartender about the tapas and what drinks to pair with it. I read some reviews complaining about the portion, but I think this place serves good portion for the price. Their food: Pulpo a la Gallega - Octopus is very well cooked, so tender and flavorful. The portion is pretty good for a tapas. Jamon Serano - Jamon is always good and it tasted great with the savory, tangy spread underneath it. Cured Sheelp Cheese - something I haven't tried before and delightful surprised my mouth. I didn't know cheese, garlic and red pepper would make such an awesome harmony. Mediterranean Olive Medley - plump and juicy and goes well with Sherry and Sangria. Their Drinks: Sangria - they only have red Sangria and they do it right. Fruit pieces left on the bottom of the glass is always good for dessert. Sherry - I ordered Fino as J thought something on a dryer side would go better with the food. It's quite intensive and strong. Two of these would give me a good buzz and I'm not a lightweight. What surprised me was when I tried it with olives. I was really kind of blown away by this place! I was a little nervous about the location and safety of parking and walking. It seemed a bit odd to be both Italian and Mexican under one roof. Once I got inside, every expectation was exceeded. The food was great, the service was impeccable. My only regret was having to choose just one entree, as so many things looked good. We had a veal dish and a gnocchi dish. Both amazing. Dessert was some kind of lemon thing. I hate lemon but my stepdaughter loved it. I enjoyed a cappuccino, which was perfect. Yum.
