So I had lunch at La Madeleine during a quick shopping trip to the surrounding stores in the area. My lunch mate and I had a couple salads, a couple bowls of soup and drinks. Adding proteins to the salads came out to around $37.00 for both meals. The food was excellent and the serving sizes were generous. The place was clean, adhering to all Covid regulations and quite charming for your basic order and sit kind of establishment. The star attraction of the outing was our server Patricia, who was absolutely adorable, charming, professional and fun to talk to. Service was quick and proficient with no mistakes. Would definitely recommend it as a cute little spot to grab a quick lunch or baked goods if shopping in the downtown Albuquerque area. read more

Ahh....France sure is beautiful in the Summer, but all from the comfort of Albuquerque. This restaurant had a highly energetic atmosphere and such a loud environment that holding a conversation was quite a challenge. The idea of service is very nontraditional as the way you order your items and read the menu can be confusing for first time visitors. By the time the food arrived, it was worth it. Crisp lettuce and just the right amount of dressing on the salad were only some of the noteworthy features of the meal. I visited this location on a Friday night. It just opened in Albuquerque and it wasn't as crowded as I expected. There were many employees working but they still managed to get my order wrong. I ordered a build your own Crepe which was around $8.99 I think. So, I ordered at the front and went down the "buffet" type line and paid. I was expecting to pay that price but when they rung up my order it was $12.99. I had wanted the $8.99 dish because I didn't want to spend so much on dinner. I told the lady I didn't order the $12.99 one and she didn't seem to know what I was talking about. Then the main chef came out and told me he could redo the crepe. I said no because it looked really good. However, I was surprised because I think they should have charged me the $8.99 price because they messed up my order. On the way home from work, we visited LA MADELINE FRENCH BAKERY & CAFE for dinner, and had an unimpressive culinary experience. The atmosphere is very nice - especially the big warm flaming fireplace on a cold winter evening - but the food was bland and tasteless. We ordered the French Onion Soup and Original Caesar Salad for appetizers, then the Salad Sampler and the Salmon with Kale & Butternut Squash. The French Onion Soup was tasty, but lacked enough cheese and tasty bread. The Salads were quite good - maybe the best part of our dinners. But my Salmon was overcooked, dry and tastless - like a re-heated frozen dinner. We've been to Paris and other cities in France dozens of times, and this was definitely NOT quality French cuisine! Maybe mediocre Parisian café fast-food. To add insult to injury, they only offer 3 selections of tasteless house wine: White, Red, and Rose. A French Restaurant? Yeah Right. There are several other bonifide French restaurants in Old Town and NorthEast. We are not wasting our money again. La Madeline's is NOT RECOMMENDED. read more

Visited La Madeleine for the first time with a friend for lunch awhile back and ordered the French Dip au Caramelized Onions. According to the website it comes with "Premium roast beef with caramelized onions, melted provolone and house-made horseradish sauce baked on a baguette. Served au jus." The food was phenomenal and the atmosphere was really nice, quiet and cozy. First you order at the register then find a table where a chef will bring your order directly to the table. At the door, you are greeted with a big selection of deserts behind a glass showcase which were hard to pass up. Before I left I ordered a Fruit Tart which was fantastic. The fruit actually tasted like it was fresh and not old or frozen. Already looking forward to my next visit. This has become my new favorite spot. read more

My wife had been eagerly reading me the menu in anticipation of this location opening (bringing to mind Arrested Development's "chicken fingers... in club sauce"). She swore that the pesto sauce and tomato basil soup would change my life. I didn't quite know what to expect when we went with friends soon after the location opened. While we were standing in line outside, a sad customer emerged on a cell phone saying with vitriol, "it's just like Panera!" Since I unapologetically like Panera, I'm not sure what she was upset about, and we finally went in. We were greeted by the staff and shown the menu while we stood in line. We placed our order at the start of the line and went down the length of the counter with a tray to pick up our soups and salads. I ordered the chicken crepe with broccoli and pesto cream sauce. While we were waiting for the food to arrive, we munched on the complementary bread and jelly. When my crepe came out I was extremely impressed. The pesto cream sauce was phenomenal, and I'm a sucker for anything in a crepe. I also used their rewards app to go back through the line for desert. A slice of cheesecake was good, but not great for the price. The reward app requires that you visit quite often before it starts giving rewards, and I can't see that as something that drives me to go back. The main dish though was certainly worth the visit, and I'm looking forward to trying some of the other items as well. The food was good, wasn't exceptional, but it was tasty. We went later at night, they weren't busy at all, but they still messed up one of our orders, the manager did come out and changed it for us though. My chicken crepe was good. Ham and cheese sandwich was yummy. Creme brûlée was good, but they skipped the crystal top part. I personally didn't like how it works, so when you go to flying star, you know they are not serving, but at least they will bring your drinks and utensils to you. This one, not only you have to go to the counter and order everything, you have to go pick up your drinks and utensils. It's a pain. Especially we sit all the way on the other side of the sofa bar. They used to serve my favorite breakfast in town, the country French breakfast. Sadly quality has really gone downhill. We went yesterday and none of our food was cooked fully except for the croissants. My bacon was limp and barely cooked, my spouse said the sausage was more cooked but tasteless, the eggs were runny and the potato galettes were undercooked as well. The coffee was however good. Just had a very enjoyable and delicious breakfast here. The employees were friendly, efficient and eager to please. We both ordered French country breakfasts which were not only delicious, but cooked exactly as we asked them to be. I'm pretty picky about bacon and eggs, and often have had to return underdone breakfasts in various restaurants, but La Madeleine got my order perfect. The croissants that came with breakfast were wonderful and reminded me of when we used to order them in France, light, flaky and delicious! We took home some chocolate croissants and ham and cheese savory Danish for later. I wasn't sure what to expect seeing the wide variety of reviews here, but really wanted to try this place, so we went with low expectations. Very comparable to panera in the restaurant style. Food was decent but everything was overly sweet for my taste. Latte was pretty good and the atmosphere was very mellow as well. Overall it was a very casual lunch spot, but was lacking original vegetarian options in my opinion (lunch menu). I was able to visit for the soft opening with four other people. We each got different menus. Each piece of food was delightful and well cooked. One of our drinks came out cold, but they fixed it right away. Going at lunch time I expected it to be busy, however it did feel a bit unorganized and generally was just not a good experience for the price of the food. I've worked in the food industry for years so I definitely don't mind waiting, however it felt of more like a Panera experience to me than the "french" cuisine they advertise. I've tried to use the rewards program several times but have always, yes, always been told that they are sold out of whatever it is. This morning both coffee containers were empty and nobody was in s rush to fill them. Shouldn't there be some visual cue that the coffee needs filling? Yes, yes, YES! I love this place. After my trip to Europe in August 2018, I wanted to compare our take on French food versus actual French food and I was not disappointed at all! We eventually got to the register, after repeating our orders to 3 different people and being told to just keep moving along. The lady at the register then read our orders back as fast as she could, so no one could really confirm if they got their order right. For me, I had asked for their Tomato Basil Pasta Salad as a side. Unfortunately, they also have a Tomato Basil Soup, which is that was put on my order. I had to explain to the cashier 2 times what I ordered...after explaining to the previous 4 people what I had ordered...that was incredibly frustrating. At that point we just said we will take whatever comes out, paid the bill and went hunting for a table. I took charge of filling waters for the 4 people in our party that ordered water to drink. I mistakenly used the water tap that had the COLD label on it, which actually was warm...almost hot...water. Then grabbed some bread and butter for the table and sat down and hoped things might improve. Then, the food started coming out. We were approached not once, not twice, but 4 times by the same server with a dish we didn't order, for a table number that did not correspond with our table number. Next server came with another wrong dish, with another wrong table number. Then my order came out, missing the side ceasar salad that I had ordered in addition to my tomato basil pasta salad. The ceasar salad was DRENCHED in dressing...so I regret even asking for it. I think 3 additional wrong table number orders came out to our table and finally everyone had something similar to what they had ordered in front of them. One would think that after saying your order 4 or 5 times, that they'd be able to get it right...not the case here. Manager came over and offered free desserts to all at the table, but at that point we just wanted to finish and leave and really didn't want to go through all of the hassle of ordering again. Food was meh, chain restaurant stuff and nothing to write home about. The Croque Monsieur was a total joke with crust as hard as rock. Very disappointing. We went to this restaurant hungry and with high hopes. We started with the chocolate croissant which was good but it only went downhill from there. Ordered French onion soup, quiche Lorraine, and chicken friand. When the French onion soup came out, there was three slices of bread tossed on it with a couple sprinkles of Parmesan cheese that was not even melted and came out of a microwave. The color of the broth was a strange reddish brown and was extremely salty. When we asked the waitress if it was not supposed to be baked she said that that's how it is served. So we exchanged for the mushroom soup which was equally as bad and looked like it was dumped out from a Campbell soup can. The quiche Lorraine was acceptable but seemed to come from the frozen section of a grocery store. The chicken friand was like a croissant with a spoonful of the bad mushroom soup.
