This place is badly organized and poorly run. When one enters, there are no directions as to what to do. There are two holders of menus just inside the door. No one tells what you should do--sit down? (where?), give someone your order? But then there is also a long cafeteria line facing you to the right. Should you start down the line? Again, no help from the staff. Finally, if you are able to get the attention of some staff member, and if you are fortunate, you will receive some partial and confusing information as to what you might do. (Actually, you have to ask how to order). Our orders were placed from the menu. You must help yourself to a fountain drink, or you may be given a small carafe and a glass depending on what drink you order. You must help yourself to utensils, napkins, straws, etc. And if you want bread, there are very small slices of (dried-out) breads under a plastic lift lid. The "butter" is in those small plastic containers out of which you must dig some of the cold hard contents. We sat and sat, waiting for our food orders. Literally, 40 minutes later our orders were brought out, along with an apology. A better place would inform its clients up front that their order will take X minutes to prepare or that they are having food preparation problems. And the food was not very good. Mediocre at best. The staff seem to be confused, uncertain, lacking knowledge and are obviously untrained. If this place did not have a pleasant-looking interior design, including a fireplace, plus some tasty baked goods, I would assign it one star instead of two. Finally tried La Madeleine out and left unimpressed. When you walk in there are menus right in front of you and then you're directed one way or another depending on whether or not you're dining in(good thing there was signage). We had not been to one before so we were confused about how to go about ordering. It is similar to a cafeteria where you move along an open case. The people behind the counter were just chatting, didn't make eye contact and didn't offer even a greeting. After asking for some help, one of the gentlemen came and stood beside us with an iPad. Still no greeting!? We let him know it was our first time and he then took our order. Customer service people! There was no line and 3 people and none of them ever said hello etc. We ordered one of their chicken entrees and a pastry smothered in their mushroom gravy in addition to an americano. Coffee was good. Food was uninspiring. I would maybe give it another shot for coffee and a pastry and to sit by the fireplace. read more

Second time ordering cookies and pastries from La Madeleine for a party I was giving. Ordered and paid for my selections several days ahead of time with pickup scheduled for 8:30am. I received a phone call from the restaurant at 8am informing me that there would be substitutions to my order! I was told that the restaurant only makes a certain amount of cookies and pastries a day and they were out...really? 8:00am and you are sold out? Isn't that the reason why a customer would order and pay for items ahead of time? The young woman who called me was clearly clueless as to why I might be upset. I asked for a manager to call me back but no one has. Picked up my order as I had to have something to serve my guests but I will not be back. Customers should receive what they paid for and La Madeleine needs better customer service! No wonder the parking lot was empty when I arrived this morning....save your money and buy local. read more

After a long decision-making process, my partner and I decided to stop in for breakfast. Right off the bat we noticed it was a order at a register then find a seat place- kind of like Panera. We thought it'd be a little more higher scale but the decor was nice and it was moderately busy. There was a young man with an iPad and he kind of just stood there while we were looking around lost trying to figure out how to actually order and it wasn't until we told him that it was our first time that he started to suggest entrees to us. The whole order taking process is very confusing and he didn't really seem like he knew what he was doing either but we finally get to the register and we ask to split the check 50-50. Neither the cashier or the manager knew how to do so. Then eventually we just gave up and had them split the entrees and just charge the separate cards- they charged both entrees on my card and didn't say anything; the only way I knew was from looking at my bank statement. I ordered a large bowl of soup they gave me the medium sized so I had to get that fixed, it was kind of them not to charge me again. The lady behind me had paid for her pastries and the cashier was trying to charge her again for them. We finally get our food and the French breakfast was really good the eggs were fluffy and the tomatoes were fresh. There was a potato pancake my partner loved but I didn't care for because of all the onions they packed in. The cream of mushroom soup is to die for!! The manager did come check on us during our meal and the restaurant was well kept and clean. We probably will be back for the food but hopefully they work out their kinks and get out of that honeymoon stage quick! Restaurants are closing left and right. read more

Had a lovely experience at a very not busy time. Probably won't order food again, but the coffee was good and fresh (even the decaf) and I love the little complementary fresh bread and jam bar. The food seems to be all premade then reheated when selected from the case. I had a quiche and it was good, but not amazing. Ordered a croissant toast for my daughter and it was rather overpriced for what she got, but it IS nice to see almost-adult food on a kid menu. Everything seemed clean (including her knees after crawling around under our table) and the table was promptly bussed. But we were one of only 3 or 4 tables at the time...the arrangement of having to look at the menu/case as you come into the small entry before taking a table and having all self serve beverages give it a fast-food feel. read more

Over rated and pricey and not so good food. I bought the last Madeleine (yep, the very last one) and it was okay, and got a salad sample type dish that was kind of mushy and not that good. The place needs to work out the kinks, and everything will be fine. All the people leaving negative reviews need to give them a chance to figure out how to run their restaurant efficiently. My sister and I went to brunch on December 31 st. It was our first time at here. Everyone was friendly everything looked great so we ordered and sat in the first dining room a to the right as you come in the door it was fairly busy and got a lot busier while we were there. A couple came in and parked there 3 boys ranging from 2 to 4 at a long table in the dining room where we were and went to get in line to order. These kids screamed, yelled , crawled on the table, under the table and threw heavy toys acted awful and disturbed everyone in our dining room. The parents saw this and didn't do anything. I told the asst. mgr and he came to the table and told my sister and I "we're sorry this is a family restaurant and there is nothing they can do about it. I then asked him was it ok that their kids behaved like this and ruined it for everyone in the dining room and he said "yes " and asked did I want to speak to the general manager. " We won't go back . The food was good but it was a terrible dining experience. If a table of ill mannered kids mean more to them than a whole dining room full of people it is not the kind of restaurant we want to to go. read more

Visited there last night for first time. Tried several things between our group. My favorite was grilled ham and cheese sandwich. Others in group thought the star of the night was the napollan. Potatoes soup was middle of the road, lacked depth of flavor. The quiche pastry bottom crust awesome, needed more flavor depth in the middle egg mix. Overall good place. read more

BAN-AID IN PASTRY FOOD SAFETY HAZARD Today 11/11/2017 in the evening my wife and I where about to finish up our two pastry's when the last bite of the coconut cake was very wrong. I bite into a dirty small round ban-aid and immediately approach the manager, but when I showed how I was unfolding the ban-aid the manager stated " it's a date.. it must had slipped into the cake batter" so I just left with my wife immediately. Clearly the Restaurant and Management don't care for customer service and customer food safety. The baker should have been wearing protective hand wear and noticed the ban-aid was off. I will contact head management of this restaurant branch coming Monday. read more

Yech! Worst lunch I ever had! Had a french dip that tasted like it came out of a vending machine and was over heated in the microwave. The sandwich came with tomato bisque soup that tasted like they had opened a can of pizza sauce, added some cream, heated and served it. read more

We were excited to try this place out because my fiance and I appreciate when new restaurants open up in the city. Our first impression was that the staff was more confused than most of the customers. She had order the salad and was told by the first person that she would need to tell "them" as he vaguely pointed down the "Poncho's" style serving line. She continued on and I ordered the Cordon Bleu with bowtie pasta and a cup of the French Onion Soup. My fiance answered, "Balsamic-Marinated Caeser Salad" which they returned with "The salad sampler?" as their response. There hands started moving as they broke eye contact, which never returned, and she assumed this meant to move on down the line. As she got closer to the cashier, we saw someone hastily hand off a salad to someone closer to where we were standing and the person receiving the salad asked "who was this for?" The person turned with frustration and pointed over the glass to my fiance with the salad tongs in hand, without speaking a word. I was then asked if I was having a side and when I verified the french onion soup, I saw them scoop some broth into a cup and then dropped a slice of bread and a small handful of cold cheese on top, half missing the cup. I came to this place with the FOS in mind since I thought they would ace this, I was wrong. The Pièce De Résistance was the Cordon Bleu Pasta. I saw it pass through multiple workers hands before it landed before me and something didn't seem right but I couldn't place it. As we payed, the manager that was waiting to ask the cashier a question, asked us how we were doing. Before we could really answer, his attention went back to the cashier as soon as she was done with us. Feeling rushed with the line behind us, we took to finding a place to sit. This in itself, was it's own monster. People in this town do not know how queing systems work and always feel like they need to send people ahead to hold down tables while the rest place the order. This led to confusion and chaos as people needed to go back and forth to verify order information (as we were witnessing while we sat). I eventually decided to start with the entree to allow my soup to reach it's final level of tepidness, as the hot broth and cold cheese met in the middle. At that point, I was able to identify the issue with my pasta dish. It had no pasta. Someone made a sauce and plated it on a plate with no pasta. It went through multiple peoples hands, who did not notice this and then put it down on my tray. I would have questioned it immediately but it looked as the other that I saw go out to a table while I was in line. I called over the food runner to question the dish but he said he wasn't sure about the dish and he would go ask someone. He was never to return. We asked the busser if he could call the manager over but that request was also fruitless. We once again felt pressure to move on as couple of the younger members of a group were sent over with everyone's purses to spread out and take over our large shared table while the rest of the party waited in line. I accepted my fate as I had started eating the cordon bleu soup, which was salty and devoid of any real flavor (unless salty was the target flavor). All in all I wouldn't go back. I would have tried to flag down a manager at the counter but it was chaos. I figured if we couldn't get someone over by the second request it wasn't going to happen. They already had their money and my time was wasting at that point. I just decided to write it off as a lesson learned. I did decide to use their feedback option on the site and requested checked that maybe someone should get back to me. No one ever did. I worked at a local restaurant for over seven years and witnessed many openings over the years. This was a poor display for this level of franchise. read more

Nice place to go once in a while. I was hoping for real french creme puffs--but those were not even on the menu. The napoleon's have yellow cream (not the lovely real whip creme). The fruit tart crust is impossible to cut. We had breakfast--an omelet and a breakfast sandwich. Those were great. We also had a grilled potato pancake item that was tasty. Nice breads to sample. The cafeteria system takes a bit of getting used to. We were behind a party that ordered salads and we had to wait for them to choose all the different items they wanted. So the system is a bit flawed. The customer kind of has to know, what is prepared ahead of time and what is made to order. read more

Horrible customer service, Sandra the cashier went out of her way to be rude and embarrass me. After placing my order I asked for a water. I was expecting a bottle but instead given a cup. The water option is not located below the ice machine as in most restaurants and I could not locate the water, so instead I grabbed an iced tea. After pouring the iced tea, Sandra suddenly appeared behind me and yelled at me saying I had ordered a water. I told her I could not find where the water was located as it was not underneath the ice. Rather than offer to show me where the water was or offer me a new cup with ice for water Sandra said she would then have to charge me nearly $3 for the iced tea since I did not order it and told me to go back to the register. I was so shocked by her attitude and put off that I paid the nearly $3 for a small cup of iced tea when I had really wanted a bottle of water in the first place. Wish she had been nicer and more helpful, customer service is not her forte! read more

Finally got around to trying La Madeleine and was sorely disappointed. We got there early on a Tuesday morning (7:30 am to be exact), so it wasn't at all crowded and only a few other people ate while we were there. We were greeted politely initially, and the girl who cleared our table at the end was very polite, but that's about where the good experience ends. My mom and I decided we both wanted the French Country Breakfast but without any meat. Upon further inspection of the menu, we realized that ordering the Two Eggs Any style with a Potato Galette on the side would be the same thing as the French Country Breakfast but without the meat, exactly what we wanted but slightly less expensive. I ordered at the counter (two eggs and the potato gallette and a cup of coffee), no issue. My mom ordered after me and was helped by a different person, and when she tried to order the same thing I did, the woman at the counter told her that what she wanted was the same as the French Country Breakfast. My mom informed her that she was aware of that but that she did not want the meat that came with that order and that the way we were ordering it would be cheaper. The woman insisted that she should order the french country breakfast with no meat because it would be cheaper. My mom again tried to tell her that she was mistaken but again the woman behind the counter insisted and ended up charging her for the french country breakfast and a cup of coffee. When my mom sat down at the table, we compared receipts and though we ended up with the exact same meal, she was indeed charged almost a dollar more than me. When we politely asked the girl (different form the woman who helped with my mom's order) who brought our food to the table if this could be rectified, she also insisted that we must be mistaken and that my mom was charged for the country breakfast because it was cheaper. At this point we were pretty annoyed and showed her my mom's receipt to prove our point. She took my mom's receipt, looked at it quickly and asked my mom if she wanted it fixed. My mom replied yes, please, and the girl dropped the receipt on the table and told her that she could go to the counter and ask the other woman to fix it if that's what she wanted, and then promptly walked away. Generally speaking, I don't expect the world from wait staff or service people, and I usually find most workers to be pleasant and polite, and I have been one myself, so I know the struggles they endure. I don't go out of my way to make trouble, and since this wasn't a large amount of money, we weren't even that intent on being refunded, more so we just wanted to point out the error. But based on the service and attitude we encountered, and the subpar, lukewarm food and burnt coffee, we probably won't be returning to La Madeleine. read more

I have watched this restaurant slowly deteriorate over the course of its brief existence in Albuquerque. My wife and I had frequented La Madeleine in Alexandria VA when we lived there, and we were delighted when we saw the new building being constructed. Over time I can only conclude that this restaurant is horribly managed. At our last (and it will be our LAST) visit for breakfast, the trays had disappeared, despite its being a cafeteria style arrangement. We ordered breakfast, and I got to carry two coffee cups, two plastic water cups, silverware and napkins in my hands to the table that my wife had saved for us. The cashier simply told me "We don't do trays", although there was a stack of them in plain sight under the counter. After a lengthy wait, the cashier came to our table to tell us that they were out of French toast (at 8am). I asked to speak to the manager, because at our previous visit we were also told they were out of French toast. After another lengthy wait, we decided to leave, and I asked the cashier for a refund. Still no sign of the manager. She refunded our two breakfast orders but charged us for the two coffees which we barely touched, and the tip that I included while ordering. Never again! One star is one too many. read more

In summary, DISAPPOINTING! I had breakfast with friends at 0915am 12/15/17, not a busy time. The only bright spots were the smiles and friendliness of staff. First, buffet quiche is just wrong. I ordered the quiche Lorraine. There were 4 quiches visible on a griddle, all were well done on the top and burnt edges of crust. I also had a potato cake. First, everything was not even like warm. Nothing appeared or tasted fresh. I used a fork to cut a bite of the quiche and the entire thing cracked as if it were made of glass. The egg and contents were dried out and cold. The potato cake was cold and greasy. This appeared to be food prepared for the breakfast rush and left on the griddle for several hours. If I had not been with friends, I would have returned it. The French Dark Roast coffee was good, and the only decent thing I had....and of course the container was empty when I went for a second cup. If La Madeline is going for a La McDonalds fast food approach, you have nailed it. Otherwise, make your food fresh ! read more

The place has been open over a month. Kinks should have been worked out by now. There was a line out the door at 11:25. One guy with a tablet to "take your order" - but depending on what you order, he's pointless. Oh, you want a salad, go stand in the cafeteria line in front of the one person making salads. Twenty minutes later, I had a sad spinich salad with tasteless bacon. Really? How can bacon be bad? I have no idea, but it was. I didn't bother to finish my meal. The dining room was so noisy, I had to yell at my lunch partner and I was sitting next to her, not across the table. The crepe she ordered was "gummy". I could forgive the staff that looked like they were on work release. I could forgive the managers working in slow motion. I could forgive the drink station being the most inefficient design ever, except when compared to the ordering/paying process. I can't forgive mediocre (at best) food in an echo chamber. read more
