This restaurant has been on my list for months due to some of the unique dishes, but it's not close to midtown or any public transportation stations. Finally gave it a try this week. I walked-in for a lunch at ~1:30pm. The restaurant was nearly empty at that time. I ordered the Mor-Din and a side of white rice, asking for less meat and more veg. Mor-Din translates to "clay pot" so--as expected--the dish came with a big clay pot. There were shrimp, thinly sliced pork belly, glass noodles, mushroom mix, celery and lettuce. The glass noodles were gelatinous. The mushroom+celery mix went surprisingly well with the shrimp. The lettuce added some freshness to the dish. Overall interesting, delicious, peppery and full of umami. Service was quick clearly because there were only a few customers. Decor of the restaurant was exotic. Check the photos of attractions in Thailand. Note: the restaurant only accepts cash and credit/debit cards.

I came here a Friday afternoon and traffic busy but parking was not hard to find. I parked on the residential street and walked one block to the venue. I know there is parking for the shops and restaurants that were closer but I took the first spot I saw. I did like that the restrooms were gender neutral. Both were single stall so it makes it easier to pull off but I know this means a great deal to many people. The inside of the bar has soft lighting and simple decor. The bar upfront is a nice touch. The tables on the inside are ideal for dates but can easily be put together for larger parties. The outdoor patio is a sight to behold. The outdoor patio can be enclosed in plastic for bad weather. The patio has plenty of plants. The outdoor patio seems to be set up for larger parties. This makes sense since large parties can be pretty loud and having them outside will not bother the inside guests. My server was Gem and she is a blast. She recommended the Coconut Chicken Soup and the Drunken Man Shrimp Noodles. The soup is extremely creamy but it is non-dairy. A cheat code for the lactose intolerant. The soup is full of flavor and I could eat it every day. The Drunken Man Noodles has some what of a kick but not too spicy. I wish it was spicier. The shrimp still has the tail on. Food is good.

They offer complimentary valet parking in the back. The ambiance is beautiful, with Asian-inspired artwork that creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. The service could have been a bit better. We weren't given small plates or utensils initially and had to ask for them. It may have just been a timing issue since the other tables appeared to be fully set. Now, let's talk about the food--it was amazing! Everything was packed with flavor. We started with the calamari, gyoza, dumplings, garlic green beans, and fried tofu. The portions were generous for the price, and everything was so good that we seriously considered ordering more. For our entrées, we ordered the Drunken Man Lo Mein and the Shaken Beef. Both dishes were delicious, but I preferred the Lo Mein because of the larger portion and how satisfying it was. The Shaken Beef was flavorful but had more vegetables than beef. My only complaint was that the food wasn't served piping hot--if it had been, it would have made an already great meal even better.

La Moon is a must do--our first visit was nothing short of outstanding! From the moment we walked in, the authentic music set the perfect dreamy dinner vibe, transporting us into a relaxed, joyful evening. Food item or ordered: sautéed shrimp with a spicy cream, garlic. Wings that had an amazing chili glaze over them. Gyoza (I did not enjoy this dish) These were the starters, and the shrimp was my favorite.! Fast-forward to our main selections!! We ordered the drunken noodles which were 10 out of 10 as well as the blackened shrimp. It was served with a spicy Sriracha also a 10 out of 10.! The drinks gave main character. They have lots of signature drinks that are very light and refreshing. You wouldn't believe that alcohol was in them. If you're in the Virginia -Highlands area, please stop by and check them out! I server was amazing, and all of the food came out fresh and hot. They also have complementary valet parking!

Everything tasted amazing! The owner was super awesome and the servers were great. We ate on the patio which was nice. The inside of the restaurant is classy, clean and inviting. I'll come back to try more foods. The fish dish was the star of the show!

We came as a party of 6 on a Monday night and it was busy! Took a 20 minute wait but you already know it's popular We ordered 2 appetizers and 4 mains with drinks as well. And were welcomed with extremely warm attitude by our servers and the owners. The ambiance is definitely a bit louder but everything was as perfect as it could. The owners gave us so much attention and made sure we were treated well. Number one will recommend for a dinner! Will come back again

Came here with a friend for dinner tonight! I valet parked in the back and walked up the stairs, through the restaurant to the host stand, and gave the hostess my friend's name for our reservation. Just a few minutes after being seated, and given water, my friend found me at our table by the open window, and we caught up on life! The ambiance is very trendy, intimate, and stylish. We loved our table because we had a comfortable breeze gently blowing in and nice natural sunlight. Funny enough, my friend and I had the same top 3 entrée choices we were considering, so we decided to each pick one different option and share. I chose the shaken beef. It was very flavorful and delicious! While most of the pieces were tender and soft, some were pretty chewy. My friend got the drunken man lo mein. It was also very tasty, with a very subtle, enjoyable spice kick thanks to the peppers. Service was great! Our waitress was very kind and attentive, checking on us and making sure we didn't need anything, without rushing or making us feel overwhelmed. We were very comfortable here! My only reason for a less than 5 star review is simply because of price. While the portions were perfect for us girls, the price for what you're getting is very high. I look forward to coming back to try more delicious dishes. I plan to bring my fiancé next time since he wasn't able to make it tonight, but I already know that with him, we are going to have to share at least 4 or 5 dishes... and it won't be cheap!

Loved every bite we had! Started with the Gyoza and green beans. Wow. A whole party in my mouth! For my entree I had the Drunken Lo Mein. Just enough spice to satisfy my tastebuds. My parents both had the salmon with fried rice. They enjoyed very much too. Kendall took great care of us. I can't wait to go back! I managed to find street parking - which I'm still shocked about. But there's valet behind the building if you're not so lucky. The ambiance was super cute too. We sat by the opened windows in the front and because the weather was just perfect today, the breeze coming in was amazing.

Wandered in on a Monday night and were immediately seated as a group of 2. The interior of this place is beautiful. Moody, red lighting with plush booths and pillows. Service was friendly and attentive. She took our order quickly and came to check on us at all the right times. Ordered the dumplings, seafood hot pot, and pad thai. The dumplings were nice and in a tasty sweet soy sauce. The pad thai had great flavor and a variety of textures. It also had a healthy serving of shrimp and chicken. The seafood hot pot was my favorite by far! The soup was flavorful with a great balance of sour and spicy. I also loved the mushrooms and soft squid rings. My only critique is that the disposable chopsticks and plastic soup spoons don't fit the more upscale atmosphere.

Wowowow-- there's SO much to like about La Moon. First of all, I'd describe it as the PERFECT date-night spot. Quaint and intimate setting, paired with vibrancy and energy that makes it sexy NOT tired. The food was to die for. The portions are also enough, to share, but necessitate ordering a few in my opinion. It's the perfect opportunity to try many of their MUST-TRY dishes... such as... - Gyozas (worth it) - Dumplings (could pass) - Mor-Din (unreal glass noodle, shrimp pork belly pot) - Kao-Mok (delish! La Moon has been on my radar for a little while. The way the restaurant is set up they have seating out front and windows in the front of the restaurant that open up to the restaurant feels inside/outside very cool! Food, let's talk about it. I tried that the cheese roll, Mussels, fried rice with salmon and the drunken lo mein. It was amazing!! What stole the show to me was the drunken lo mein and the mussel. The mussels were HUGE and the sauce it came it was out of this word, a little salty but nonetheless amazing. Such a great restaurant highly recommend. You're welcome! Also S/O to my sever Trent! Was very excited to try La moon but ended up being a bit disappointed by the food. The ambiance is absolutely gorgeous for the small space and the service was also great, but unfortunately I felt like the food was lacking flavor. We came for a birthday dinner and had a table for 6 of us. I got to try dumplings, one of their noodle dishes, and I ordered the shaking beef for myself. Unfortunately I felt like all of the food was missing flavor that I'm used to with Vietnamese and Thai food. The meat was cooked super well and was tender, but there just wasn't any flavor. I'm not sure if I'll be back at La moon since there are soooo many options in the Virginia highland area.

We visited Mai kitchen for the first time a couple weeks ago after wanting to try it for months. What a disappointing experience. It took forever to get our drinks, we had to ask the server 3 times. The Pad Thai was decent, however we asked for our stake medium rare and it came out entirely raw. When we sent it back, it took no more than 30 seconds to return the exact same thing. The picture included is AFTER we had already sent it back requesting medium rare again. At this point we decided to go elsewhere for a meal. The service was decent but over all very slow and the food and drinks mediocre for this price point. read more

Food is scorching hot, quick to the table and, for the most part, extremely underwhelming and way overpriced. We started with the Imperial Rolls to share. None of us could accurately describe these in either texture nor flavor. I will attempt to summarize: The fried wonton wrapper was almost welded to the over-mixed filling which had no distinct taste to it at all & was uniformly grey in appearance. We did enjoy the cold rice noodles with crunchy peanuts & the sweetly sour & slightly spicy dipping sauce with shredded carrots. Next up: Main Courses DO NOT ORDER THE CURRY Glass Noodle dish was okay -- overly sauced & cooked noodles with undercooked, unwieldy bok choy -- oh! For some inane reason these bok choys were also heavily present in the yellow curry dish?!?!? The shrimp tasted like they were clearly on their last leg & their texture was not only grainy, but rubbery as well. Incredible!! Stick with the Pho and maybe stretch it between two meals to get your moneys worth. One last thing, the pillows along the banquettes need to be burned in a fire, never to be resurrected. Nonsensical and interrupts the flow of the luscious ochre velvet channeled, and, quite clearly, custom made banquettes. Sadly, will not be dining here again, despite the wonderful service from the floor staff. : ( read more

I enjoyed the Vietnamese style wings, but the shrimp egg noodles were disappointing. There wasn't nearly enough vegetables or noodles for the price point. Service was subpar. It took 20 minutes for our drinks to be ordered and it was not busy. The staff was nice but the service was not up to par, especially not for a required 20% gratuity for a party of 6. Another disappointing aspect is the way receipts are processed. They add an extra 3% to all card transactions and you're not made aware of this until after paying for food... which is very bizarre for a restaurant and extremely misleading. I would not recommend this place for parties 6 or more nor during dinner hours. Hopefully a lunch here is a better experience. read more

Great new spot in VaHi. Chill vibe with upscale Vietnamese food. The portions are on the smaller side but the flavor and presentation is great. If you're looking for Buford highway prices and portions, probably not the spot you're looking for. BUT if you want great Vietnamese food in the middle of the city definitely check them out. Got the Vermicelli noodles with shrimp and a side of beef pho broth. The shrimp had a great peanut flavor and the pho broth was perfect (not too salty or oily). Free valet in the back or street parking. Great spot for a date night or catching up with a friend. No alcohol yet but BYOB for now read more

This is our second time coming and this has to be one of my favorite asian fusion restaurants. The ambience is great, the food is amazing & the workers are super attentive. My favorite has to be their Pad Thai dish, super rich in flavor! Can't wait to come back again. We stopped by on a whim and were so impressed. We sat at the bar since they were fully booked (I can see why they were booked). We had exceptional service despite them being busy. Food was tasty and ambiance was nice. Valet parking in the back until 10pm. We had the glass noodles, and tried two of the desserts, crème brûlée and green tea tempura cheesecakes. All were good! Only con is that they charge ~4.25% fee if you use a credit card and that was not made clear to us when we were paying. read more

We loved this place! We were seated outside since all the indoor seating was reserved but the outside patio was adorable (great overhead fans!). We started out with the crispy shrimp rolls and spicy lemongrass king oyster mushrooms. Both were awesome and the mushrooms definitely had a kick to it! My bf ordered the shaken beef which was "phenomenal" and I ordered the shrimp egg noodle. My food was good but I probably wouldn't order it again. Nothing wrong with it, just not my favorite. The service was a little slow but we could tell the waiter had a ton of customers and was working very hard. Overall, we enjoyed this a lot and will definitely return. read more

Don't waste your time. This was such a bad experience .. and this was our first time here.. stick to the tried and true. Server was not knowledgeable about the dishes so much so she insisted that there were no Bell peppers , only green beans , in the dish we were thinking of ordering... and the green beans were "sooo good". .. Best location, stellar staff, charming ambiance and a legit menu but the execution on that menu falls short; not great. Food lacks vibrancy and flavor. I want this restaurant to succeed in this amazing neighborhood. Chef needs to add mint to the spring rolls, and the vermicelli noodles or offer a side condiment. Step it up a notch on all of the flavors! read more

Finally a legit Asian restaurant in the neighborhood! I feel like many of Asian options in the area is not as good as northern suburbs of Atlanta (Duluth or Suwannee) but this was a pleasant surprise. I stopped in out of curiosity and needed lunch to go anyway so picked multiple dishes to bring home. They were all great. I'd definitely go back to try the other items on the menu. read more

Not only was the food delicious here, the service was amazing. It's not a place that you'd immediately assume was family friendly (definitely more a night out vibe) but the servers were so incredibly patient and kind with our toddler. It was above and beyond anything I would ask for, and I hope they get a little extra love from management for their wonderful energy (thanks Aubrey and Cathy (or Kathy)). We have come here about once a month since finding this little spot in VaHi. This most recent trip, our waitress, Sophia, was on point - drinks and food came quickly and accurately and she was super nice the whole evening. The low key ambiance is perfect for a casual date night or evening with friends. Our favorites are the shrimp and garlic green bean appetizers. However, this trip we tried the Drunken Man Lo Mein. It was exquisite. A bit of heat and delightfully prepared veggies rounded out the best Lo Mein we've ever had! read more

Went to Mai Kitchen for dinner. The food was amazing, the ambiance is so nice. The service was great! Our server recommended the shrimp and beef egg noodle stir fry and the shaken beef for our entrees and they were delicious. We also had the papaya and mango salad and for dessert, we had the green tea matcha cheesecake. Everything was amazing! We got to meet and speak with the owners, they were so lovely and fun! The food here is pretty good, but the prices have almost doubled on some of the items since they opened less than a year ago so we were surprised to see current prices being so different from online menus. Although the food is good, it's not special or fancy enough to warrant the prices. And the service was almost nonexistent. Waitress came by a few times throughout the meal, but didn't check to see if we needed another round of drinks even though we were long finished and had to flag her down to bring us water. Overall decent, but not worth the prices. read more

Small and cozy, delicious and quaint, Mai kitchen feels like a Ma and Pa style restaurant with meals that make you feel warm and comfy on the inside. While I had high expectations, unfortunately, the dishes did not meet my expectations. Firstly, I opted for the grilled lemongrass pork, which, upon arrival, had a strong aroma of kerosene. This was quite off-putting, as it overshadowed any other flavors that the dish might have had. Furthermore, the quality of the pork did not align with what I anticipated from a restaurant of this caliber, especially considering the price point. The meat lacked tenderness and succulence, leaving me disappointed. The entree also included crispy imperial rolls, which were a letdown as well. It was evident that these rolls were not freshly made, as they were hard and unexpectedly chewy. The texture greatly detracted from the overall enjoyment of the dish. I couldn't even finish the entrée and I ended up throwing it away. On a positive note, I did order the crispy imperial rolls separately, and I must admit that they were surprisingly decent and enjoyable. They had a satisfying crunch and a flavorful filling that helped redeem the dining experience to some extent. Regrettably, I cannot provide a review of the Vietnamese chicken salad as I had intended to have it for lunch tomorrow. However, based on the underwhelming taste of the pork, my expectations for the salad are not particularly high. I stopped by La Moon in Virginia Highlands for what I thought was a Yelp event and quickly realized the event had been postponed without me knowing. Since I was already there, I decided to stay and I am so glad I did because what could have been a failed outing turned into a really enjoyable experience. I ended up hanging out at the bar with Kevin and Chef Curtis, who truly made the experience memorable. Chef Curtis put together some amazing food and I ordered a side of fried rice along with the La Moon wings. Both were delicious and definitely worth staying for. The wings had great flavor and the fried rice paired perfectly with everything. Kevin also made me two Midnight Moons, their lychee martini, and they were excellent. Smooth, refreshing, and definitely one of those drinks that can sneak up on you because they go down a little too easily. Jem and Sarah were also wonderful and added to the welcoming atmosphere. The entire team made me feel like I was supposed to be there regardless of the event mix up. What started as a failed event definitely turned into a success thanks to great food, amazing drinks, and service that made the experience feel personal. I will absolutely be back. read more

The server quickly replaced it and the new dish was fine and came out relatively quickly (much quicker than a raw hand roll).
