My favorite is the watercress stir fry crispy pork over rice. So yummy. I can eat lots of rice with this lol. My friend really likes the green curry shrimp. Mild spicy and full of fragrance. The green curry everyone raves about was unfortunately not that great, but not bad in taste- just was okay- the broth was delicious but the solid ingredients and noodles were lackluster. I took everyone's advice and avoided getting the pad Thai too! The ambiance was a place for a nice evening date in Beverly Hills area if that is what you are aiming for. I'm gonna share with you my experience. It was delicious I had dinner with friends and we shared plates. I'd say we are a lot, should have ordered less . Plates are not huge but they are very good for sharing 4-5 people. I loved green curry, very smooth coconut and spicy taste was perfect with rice . Fried pork was crispy and so good. One of the more inventive Thai restaurants I've been to in a while. Most of the dishes in the menu are traditional Thai dishes with a modern twist. Prices are reasonable while the portions are slightly smaller than the typically large American Thai food. I found the portions just right. While the venue is in busy Santa Monica Blvd., 2-hour free parking can be found around the corner on Bedford. The brussel sprouts are served with a fried sunny side up egg. They are crispy and the flavor on point. One of the signature dishes was the herbaceous chili prawns. It has a nice mix of textures and a kaleidoscope of flavors. The holy basil and ribeye wasn't what I had expected. Instead of a slab of ribeye it was a beef stew. While the flavor was good it was quite salty. Overall, this was a really good find. There's your regular Thai takeout and then there's La Ong. It's very fitting that they're located steps away from Rodeo Drive because this was definitely one of the higher end and tastier Thai restaurants I've tried! Atmosphere is not pretentious at all - very open yet intimate and their food makes the experience even better. They have your common dishes like pad thai and larb, and then other familiar dishes but with a twist. My favorites of the night were the sea bass southern Thai curry, herbaceous chili prawns, and the tom yum fried rice. All the dishes had familiar flavors but with a La Ong twist. Portion sizes are good enough to share if you order at least 2-3 dishes. Their cocktail menu also had Thai inspired drinks like Laong midnight (Thai espresso) and Thai limeade. Came here with the family on a Sunday for lunch. We were able to make a same-day reservation from their website. There's public parking in a parking structure around the block. The interior ambience is cozy. The restaurant is a bit small, but they utilize the space well. They have cute decors inside (ie. hanging plantar with live plants). The 1 thing I would recommend is for them to turn the music down a bit. The hostess had a hard time hearing us as we stated our name for the reservation. They misheard us and proceeded initially to say, "I don't have a reservation for you." Then I spelled out the last name and they were able to confirm, while apologizing for mishearing. The waiters/waitresses seem under-staffed. It took a while after we sat down to finally place our order (after we flagged down the staff) and another good 15 minutes before we received our 1st dish. The food itself was really good. 1. Brussel Sprouts (5/5): Must get. This was our favorite. The brussel sprouts were cooked well. They were not bitter at all and the vinaigrette-like sauce it's paired with made it highly addicting. 2. Thai Wings (4.5/5): It was nice and crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. 3. Larb Salad (3/5): Comes with chicken cooked with mint, cilantro, shallots, scallion served with a side of sticky rice and lettuce wrap. The flavor was good, but it is spicy. I also wish they gave more lettuce to wrap the chicken and rice in -- the balance seemed off 4. Sea Bass in Thai Curry (4.5/5): The sea bass was fresh and tender. The thai curry was light, but flavorful. A delicious combination for any seafood lover. 5. Pad See ew with chicken and garlic and egg (4/5): Pretty traditional pad see ew. Minus 1 star only cause it's a bit on the sweeter side than savory. Overall, you really can't go wrong with this dish 6. Stir Fried Cabbage (4.5/5): A side appetizer dish of well-cooked cabbage. 7. Holy Basil Rib Eye (4.5/5): The rib eye was extremely tender and the sauce it was cooked it was nice and savory. It had a bit of a spice kick to it, but not the type that lingers for too long. I absolutely loved the herbaceous chili prawns and the green curry (which I had with tofu). I had planned to have the latter with vermicelli as folks had recommended but when I placed my order for takeout at lunchtime the helpful server told me the lunch portion is smaller and more reasonable for one person, is half the price, and comes only with rice. The prawns and curry were enough for two meals. The prawns were zingy with lots of lime, a touch of heat, bright and herby and tasty. The prawns were tender. I loved this dish and I bet it would have been even better if I'd eaten immediately though even as a takeout option it was fab. The green curry had a great balance of heat and sweetness and intense flavor. Good amount of green beans and eggplant and tofu. Sometimes I find that green curries come with nothing much aside from the protein itself. I did think it was even better with a spoonful of the great chili sauce the restaurant has on hand. The rice was perfectly cooked. No complaints. I know the price point is higher but this place really delivers. It's a cute spot with a nice outdoor patio filled with plants. read more

Egg Rolls never my thing but I had one of 5 that came. They are oily, greasy, and bland. Skip em. Basil Eggplant: (5 of 5): $14.00 Japanese Eggplant. Average size portion comes with nothing except the Eggplant. Better order rice if you are just getting this. Excellent tasting--will melt in your mouth--Eggplant lovers dream! Steamed Riceberry Rice: (5 of 5): $5.00. Typical rice portion, Excellent Taste. ------------------------------------------------------- My thoughts on this new restaurant: It's the most expensive Thai restaurant you will dine in but compared to the other restaurants in Beverly Hills, it's less expensive. NOTE: Dined in on 6/12/22 and 6/25/22. Parking is readily available either on the street or in the nearby parking structures off of Santa Monica (closest one is on Camden) La Ong was named after the head chef's grandmother, and the food is cooked based on her recipes. Despite being nestled in the heart of Beverly Hills and having a stylish-enough dining environment, it still feels like you're a guest dining at someone's home. You can peer into the kitchen depending on where you're sitting, and you can listen to the employees banter with one another in Thai when things are slow. All of which are quite welcoming to see. Another sight to behold are the prices for the food here, given the aforementioned location. On one hand, you'll probably be paying a bit more for dishes here compared to most other Thai restaurants, but on the other hand, you're being offered premium dishes such as sea bass or copious amounts of crab. The portions are also very generous and are meant to be shared family-style. Chicharron - As far as I'm aware, this dish is actually moo krob, which is deep-fried pork belly that's been diced up, with just a bit of salt added. I ordered it both times I visited - the first time, it was glorious. The fat melted in my mouth, the pork tasted very clean and had a delicate amount of pork meat that fell apart gently to provide of a bit of contrast to the fat - wasn't dry at all. The skin was crispy without hurting my teeth to chew. Can't really ask for more when it comes to pork belly. It came with a sweet, savory dipping sauce that doesn't overpower the pork, and allows you to reset yourself a bit so that you don't get tired of eating pure pork belly. The second time I visited, it was a little drier and not as enjoyable for me. To be honest, this seems to be the case at every place I order fried or roast pork belly, but I do have to dock some points off for that. Noodle Rolls - Only ordered this the 2nd visit. These rolls are like gigantic version of spring rolls that you'll be familiar with from other Southeast Asian cuisine. Instead of ricepaper, you have giant noodles used as a wrap for Asian sausage, lettuce, mint, cilantro, and pickled carrots. The sausage is not quite like Chinese sausage, as it had less chew and it wasn't as salty. The taste was actually closer to Vietnamese Nem Nuong. Slightly sweet, slightly savory. At the base of the rolls, the entire plate was a shallow swamp of a type of Thai sweet and sour sauce. Not quite like the sauce given with the chicharron, but just as addicting. We cleaned the plate, which is the highest compliment I can give, especially since we hadn't planned on ordering this dish and only did so based on our server's recommendation. Crab Fried Rice - I ordered this during my first visit. This is one of the finest fried rice dishes I've ever had. It's a large portion, like everything here and you are guaranteed to have a lump of high-quality crab in every bite. I'm not sure what type of crab is used, but it's not too briny while providing a strong level of umami flavor. The rice is a combination of fluffy and some areas have just the tiniest bit of char from the way its handled on the wok - beautiful. As if that wasn't enough, the egg in this dish is amazing and might be my favorite component. It's prepared Cantonese-style, so imagine a scrambled egg that is on the verge of being runny, but isn't. And it's packed full of flavor from being cooked with a bit of fish sauce and possibly lard to add to the richness. Highly recommend trying this dish when you're here. Overall, La Ong is a very welcome addition to the restaurants adorning the streets of Beverly Hills, and is currently one of my favorite Thai restaurants. It lost a star due to the lack of consistency when it came to the chicharron, but it's still a strong 4.5 in my book. read more

The male server had a shockingly bad attitude and even swore at us after we left the restaurant--completely uncalled for and deeply unprofessional. We just happened to be shopping in the area on a Thursday afternoon and decided to try this place. SO glad we did! Came around 1pm and there was no wait, but quickly, every table was filled. The interior is super chic and clean with cool plant accents on the ceiling and walls. We ordered the Ka Prao and the Stir Fried Watercress and Crispy Pork off their lunch menu which is served from 11am-3pm. We had to specifically ask to see their lunch menu so don't pass up the chance to try the 11/10 watercress and crispy pork! The flavor was quite authentic, not too saucy, not too salty and satisfying without heavy oils. The chicken ka prao was also great, but my boyfriend and I agreed that the watercress and crispy pork was to die for. I really wanted to give this place a 5/5, but they were completely out of the mango sticky rice, my deepest sorrow TT. Also, if we hadn't looked on yelp beforehand, we wouldn't have known to ask to see the lunch menu with the watercress/crispy pork. As for parking, there seems to be street parking only.
