I was in North Tucson to walk part of the northern section of the Santa Cruz River Park. I was parked at the Thorneydale Rd parking lot. I googled "closest Mexican restaurant near me" and this place popped up. Having eaten at the Speedway location and liking it, I opted to try this location. It was 4pm on a Sunday and the parking lot was near-empty. There were several people waiting to be seated when i walked in. I was by myself so I asked if I could sit at the bar. I guess that is a weird request? A server who was cleaning up the dining area helped me with the chips and salsa and then ended up taking my order. I requested the chicken mole enchiladas with a glass of water. My server was gracious. He didn't have many customers but he was busy getting tables ready for the dinner rush. He let me know where there was an AC outlet where I could plug in my phone. I appreciated that gesture. I walked around the restaurant to look at the wall art. The high vault ceiling gives this place a ranchito ambiance. I like the transparent kitchen, too. My meal came out within 10 minutes. The chips and salsa were fresh. The pico de gallo and green salsa were quite good. The mole was a nice balance of sweet and spicy. The chicken was finely shredded and the corn tortillas homemade and thick. I ate the entire meal except for some beans. I left very full 45 minutes later. The only thing I didn't care for was the tipping suggestion. I tipped 20% but according to the chit, the 20% included the sales tax. You always tip on the value of the food and not the sales tax! I had a dental appointment nearby so I decided to stop here for some Mexican food. I've been to the one in Phoenix, but it has sent clothes so I remember it being good. I ordered a few things for takeout and it came out to almost $100 for three people. Overall, I would say the beans and cheese were good. Otherwise the rest was just OK. My family had tortilla soup and they thought it was good. The ambience inside the restaurant looked vibrant and I could see it being busy possibly over the weekend for large parties. read more

The food was fantastic, I got the chicken enchiladas and the and enchiladas were filled with chicken to like the brim and it was fantastic, my grandmother says that her green corn tamale was below satisfactory, but her chicken taco was good, my grandmother got the mini chimichangas and made them enchilada style and they were all right. Everything in here is very clean and the ambience of the restaurant is very calming. La Parrilla has been a staple for my family for many years and the experiences I've had range from really great to not as good. I don't think that this makes the list for best Mexican food spots in Tucson but they do have plenty of comfort foods to satisfy your cravings. I'm partial to their cheese crisp since I've never had a bad experience ordering it. This most recent trip, the beans came out cold and the meals themselves weren't anything exceptional. The food itself is very basic, not containing original variations from other menus. However, the staff was very friendly and I still left satisfied. If you go to La Parrilla expecting the best Mexican food in Tucson, you're sure to be disappointed. But if you appreciate it for what it is and stick to the more "classic" items, you'll have a more enjoyable experience. read more

nice mexican restaurant. the atmosphere is not very inviting as there is no air conditioning in the restaurant and it smells like stagnant water. The food and service however was amazing. the portions are large and delicious. When you first sit down you are immediately given chips with 3 different types of salsa. the waiter was very helpful in helping me choose what to eat as I am a picky eater. their queso fundido was delicious. they have a large selection of alcohol. i would only return for the food since the atmosphere inside leaves something to be desired. read more

I have been coming here since High School. It used to be one of the best in Tucson. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. The prices have gone way up and the food quality is extremely poor. My Dad was in town from Ohio, so we decided on La Parilla. There were an awful lot of flies in the restaurant. I haven't experienced that before. I ordered 3 Dorado tacos (shredded beef). When they came, the were ground beef, and the beef smelled rancid. She remade them with shredded beef, and there was hardly any beef at all. They were overcooked and extremely greasy. They were also 19 dollars. The kids meals are 9.99 for microwaved chicken nuggets and my Dad had a very large bone in his chicken chimichanga. It's a bittersweet goodbye. read more

This place is literally right down the street from me. Friends from East coast wanted Mexican food. We gave 2 options that were close. They chose La Parrilla Suiza. It wasn't busy and our server seemed rushed. It appeared that she was helping someone new & had a huge table. My plate was good- chilaquiles were on point, but my tacos not so much. I have been going to La parrilla Suiza (all locations) for years and have always loved their fried cheese appetizer, tortilla soup and tacos. Those have been my go to items. They didn't disappoint on this stop either. The tacos were delicious but they did give me a whole head of lettuce along with them. So not needed. Also, their prices have sky rocketed. For 3 tacos it was $18, which is pretty high I think. Other than that, always great service and fast. The place was pretty empty for a holiday weekend, which I was a little shocked about. Awful just awful. On a cross country drive I stopped here after 13 hours looking forward to great Mexican food. Sadly that's not what happened. I ordered beef tacos, and what I got was a plate of lettuce and cheese piled on top of corn tortillas with about 2TBSP of meat in them that were thrown in a deep fryer. It was seriously like something you'd get out of a hot case at a truck stop. And to top it all off, they were cold, like barely above room temp. I told the waitress about it and all she said she could do was to have the kitchen remake it. If it was that bad the first time, I didn't want to know what might come out next, besides I have trust issues in such situations. To go order. At ~4pm. Early Bird 3pm-6pm menu item chicken Taco salad. 12.99 lists like 6 different items. NOT that the online menu is pricing has not been changed in years. Pre COVID19 probably. It is their hook to get you in the door. This salad came w/o dressing or utensils or a note saying, "got you sucker!" 17.49 for this pile of something NOT as described in the menu. The greasy taco shell was soggy at the bottom. As wet vegetables had soaked it. The bar did not have Captain Morgans or Barcardi Rum. 2023 go figure. It's been well over a year since we've eaten here. Running errands last night and this was the closest Mexican restaurant to pop into. It seems like nothing in this place has changed....you still have to ask for the table to be scrubbed off, you still wait a while for someone to wait on you, but this time around the margaritas were just about all lime juice. I still can't get over the fact that this Mexican restaurant is so overpriced compared to its competitors. For a plate of cheese enchiladas with rice and beans it is $16.99. My friend's boyfriend is originally from Mexico. He knows where the authentic Mexican food is. He recommended this place for a tourist like me. We came here and ordered dishes he said tasted close to the dishes that are made in his hometown. The restaurant was decor really nice and looked fancy. We got seated right away. My friend and I wanted to hear him speak Spanish so we told him to order for us in Spanish. We got some chips and salsa first. OMG! I love chip and salsa. Cripsy chips and spicy sauce. YummY! I really don't remember the exact name of the dishes we got. The dish I ordered had beef tacos and came with Spanish rice, salad, and beans. It was sooo good! Love the Spanish rice and the tacos. I recently got hired here and I ended up sick with the flu. I got sent home 2 days because for some weird reason they want you to still work sick. I called out the 3rd day on a Sunday and they told me to let them know when I was better. I did just that but owner Gilberto and his wife Yvette have since then ignored me I've tried multiple times to ask about a schedule and when I can go back but no response. So basically I got fired for being sick mind you I have 4 kids and quit my other job to work with them. So now I'm jobless thanks parrilla suiza.
