Amazing Service, Very Polite Staff, Great Food All Around! Thoroughly enjoyed the Steak / Chicken Fajitas (you can make 4-5 tacos w them, they gave me 5 tortillas) and the chips came with 3 Salsa's,'the two green ones were amazing, so good. Cheese Dip was decent, but everything was very very good, plus they are such nice people. Very authentic, must go if in Eau Claire and you like Mexican Food. I'm honestly shocked to see so many good reviews at this place but I guess that goes to show everyone's taste is different! The atmosphere is very strange- no music, super quite, and if you're not sitting in the booth your sitting at a table in the middle of the room. In town for business and Yelp didn't let me down. A great little authentic Taqueria find. I had the tacos carne asadas and they were just as I would expect from an authentic establishment. Some of the negative reviews mention the food being too bland or not enough heat. It is true that the default spice level is rather mild, but if you want more heat just ask, they have it and will make it for you. read more

The salsa was really good and the food was just ok. The amount of rice and beans with the meals wasn't enough for my kids let alone an adult. The frustrating part was our server. Even speaking Spanish to her she was still confused about our simple order. I said no sour cream with my fajitas. She brought the salad with sour cream drizzle. When I reminded her I said no sour cream she said well we didn't put it on your meat. Just weird! After she brought mine and my husband's food she asked what kind of meat we wanted for the kids tacos. They had to sit there and wait for three tacos. As I was checking out, I complained to the cashier (owner?) that the menu did not have many of the Mexican dishes that I'm used to having, such as lengua con salsa verde, and he said that they cook it. I was confused, as it wasn't on the menu, but he said that he can make any Mexican dish from the ingredients that they have on their menu. It's so rare to find a quality Mexican restaurant, and even rarer to find a Mexican that allows one to order off the menu. It's nice to find one that does both. I was very impressed with the food taste, texture, price, and quantity. The service could not have been any better. Another great addition to our authentic Mexican food selection here in Eau Claire. Carnitas was moist and tender. Lengua burrito was also very good. Best part was, we asked for ceviche and they made it for us even though it was not on the menu. The Good: The service was superb The food was plentiful and out of his world (well, out of this country anyway) yummylishious! I've spent time in Guadalajara, Jal. in Mexico. This food reminded me of the food I ate there. Prices were good Restaurant and restrooms were very clean that's usually a sign of what the kitchen is like, always a good sign when trying a new place Cute dinette sets populate the dining room with murals on the walls. The Guacamole was great! The Bad: I kind of wanted a few warmer paint tones to cozy it up a bit so that it was more "date night romantic" . Maybe some plants to separate the various tables and give it a tropical feel to match the Latin cuisine. The Ugly: Prepare to roll out! You just can't stop eating! Yum! A Final Note: Go! The salsas are darn tasty! The creamy one is jalapeño, and especially good, but my favorite is the verde, which I found lightly sweet. I even bought a bottle. Chimichanga was equally delicious, and cooked perfectly. Not overly fried at all, just lightly crisp. Great service to boot. We came here because of the Yelp reviews and were thoroughly pleased. I just ate here after reading a particular review on Yelp that got me thinking I ought to give it a try. I'm really glad I did. I usually eat at Tacos Juanita, down the road, and I think that's a great Mexican cafe. But this place is also great. It's no longer in a Mexican grocery; it's now the entirety of the storefront, and hopefully the decor will evolve a bit in the future. But the food is awesome, delicious, and authentic. It was a fairly busy lunch hour when I went. It's worth noting that over half of the people eating there were clearly of Mexican heritage, so I immediately knew I'd made a good decision. It was so busy, there was a bit of a wait on our food and service, which they apologized for quite sufficiently. It didn't bother us, but since Mexican food doesn't always require a lot of prep time or cooking time, I understand why they weren't happy with themselves. We got 50% taken off the bill and made sure we overtipped. It's true that the heat level wasn't all that hot, but I no longer chase the spice like I did when I was younger. I'm okay with the default heat level being a little mild. There were lots of flavors to enjoy. Next time, I'm ordering a horchata, as well. read more

I absolutely adore this place. The decor is nothing to write home about, but the food is amazing! I'm not from Eau Claire, but when I am there on occasion, this is one of my "go to" restaurants. Last time I was there I had the chicken enchiladas with the verde sauce and they were excellent! This time I had the fajitas with three meats, chicken, steak, and shrimp. Again, the food was excellent. I highly recommend this place. The portions are gigantic, and the food is always really fresh! Simple ingredients done right! read more

Came here last year when we passed by on vacation and were very impressed. Stopped by today and weren't very impressed with the food. The huaraches are good and so are the beans but I wouldn't recommend the rice (it tastes like they use canned tomato paste to make it which gives it a very non-authentic Mexican flavor. My daughter ordered the Barbacoa but wasn't very impressed either. Last year they offered combination plates which were nice to be able to try a couple things but they no longer offer that :( now, many things like the huaraches and gorditas are only available a la carte. Disappointed. Don't think we will be back next year :( read more

We've been very pleased with the service, the food, and the friendliness of the staff. Most recently we ate here late in the day on Mother's Day, and I was pleasantly surprised and touched when the woman (perhaps the couple who owns the restaurant?) came over with a balloon tied to a bottle of Jarritos and wished me a happy Mother's Day. Great carnitas tacos!!! Tortillas were fresh, soft, carnitas were delicious and not fatty! Sauces were amazing and service was quick!!!!

Some of the best and authentic Mexican food I have ever had!!.. be aware this is more of a carry-out place. The atmosphere is not very decorated or restaurant-type (again, clearly more of a take-out place). They are however slowly decorating and changing it to make it more of a nicer atmosphere for dining in. Highly recommend their quesadillas, as well as the guacamole. Also not to mention their menu items come at a great price! The prices excellent and service outstanding. You don't want to miss this place. The bad: you will roll out of this place! Endless chips and nice big servings make sure you don't leave hungry! This time I called ahead and negotiated a deal for a couple hundred tacos and beers. My girlfriend and I were in the mood for a good Mexican place that she had not been to. I was traveling, used yelp and read through the menu. Classic food, the best presentation of food and service I have experienced in a while. The trio of dips served with chips, complementary, was very nice: salsa, salsa verde and an avocado sauce that would be great sauce for a seafood dish. They have REAL Mexican food if that's what you're looking for. I don't know anywhere else in Eau Claire you can find that because of "Mexican" restaurants don't serve you actual Mexican food. However, as soon as I had the food I literally could not have cared less. I had 3 beef tacos and I wish I could have fit more into my body. Seasoned (small) cubed beef, onions, cilantro, double corn tortilla. That's how it should be and at Taqueria La Poblanita, that is how it is. Go here. When the empty stomach grumbling hit me as I was in Eau Claire, I had a moment of panic wondering if I was going to have to settle for something along the lines of midwest tame and boring. As I looked around me it seemed like Wisconsinites have a nice choice for burger and beer joints but the ethnic selections were scary and slim (for the record, Taco Johns and Pizza Hut are not ethnic dining places in my book). Yelp to the rescue as it let me know that Taqueria La Poblanita was nearby and the name alone told me that there had to be something interesting inside. Tucked into a nondescript strip mall, I was excited to see some real Mexicans greeting us and more sitting at tables clearly enjoying some excellent looking food. Friendly people working, English spoken for language handicapped people like me, free parking in front and the place was ultra clean and neat. Even better, they take all credit cards including Amex. The salsas presented to the table as I looked at the menu were great...authentic, all completely different and quite tasty. This place is good for the entire spectrum of ethnic eater, timid to fearless since all the items listed (tacos, burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, etc.) can be made with a number of different fillers from vegetarian to chorizo to lengua (a good tongue taco can be mind blowing). There are also several weekend soup/stew specials along the lines of menudo that sounded really good including one made from goat and hominy that I thought about trying but chose the mainstream carne asada tacos instead. I left completely satisfied with 3 tacos for under $8. Hard to go wrong for what this place is and it definitely will get a return visit out of me if I ever make it to that area in the future. read more

Nice folks and great reviews. I didn't realize it would literally be a room in a strip mall with tables and chairs and not one bit of ambiance or even a plant. The salsas were very basic and not homemade tasting, and my chimichanga lacked flavor with chunks of chicken instead of shredded. The price for 3 kids and two adults with sodas was over $60! I don't see what the reviews are talking about but this is not amazing Mexican by any means. read more
