I was a regular customer who traveled from Ventura County, and today I invited my friend to this place. We arrived around 4:30 pm. We sat down at the bar, which was dirty, and at that moment a waitress cleaned the area so we could sit down. There were two bartenders and a manager. We sat there for at least 15 minutes and were never noticed, completely ignored by the staff. The place was empty, with only one couple at the bar. After not being served, we decided to go to the restaurant next door. Absolutely blown away by this brand new, high-end Mexican restaurant. There is nothing I don't like about this place. Easy parking in the massive shopping center lot. Inside, there's so much attention to detail: the unfinished ceiling, the lighting, the dark flatware, the unique short, wide water glasses that are brought along with a chilled bottle of filtered water, the neon-signed Instagram-ready wall. Along with the tables, there's a large bar you can sit at, as well as a covered patio with a fire pit. Everyone was incredibly warm and welcoming. Milan was our server. Attentive yet not overbearing. Started with a salsa flight!! 5 different types, from mild to hot. Then we ordered the Prawn Aguachile - Tiger Prawns that had been marinated in this wonderful lime juice that had some kick from peppers and chiles. Ladled it onto crispy round tortillas. Next up, the Ribeye Fajitas, and an order of Ribeye Tacos. I'm normally a filet mignon person when it comes to meats, but this ribeye was insane. Perfectly marbled and grilled. So tender. The ribeye was cut into healthy slices and I placed those onto a fresh, warm flour tortilla. There were also small Yukon Gold potatoes on my plate, which I mashed to add to the fajita. Of course, bacon (wow!), grilled onions and sour cream topped it off. The tacos were equally well-received. Dessert was the Tres Leches Cake. A delicious masterpiece. Aiesha was our server and she was phenomenal. She was so welcoming, soft spoken and very courteous to me and my family. She constantly checked up on us and made sure we had what we needed. She was knowledgeable of the menu and was so receptive to any requests. My dad ordered some chilaquiles with steak and we felt that there was very little steak on the plate for the price we were paying. When I brought this concern to Aiesha she took care of it immediately and let us know they would be working on some more steak for my dad. Overall, great food, great server, great ambiance! Service was SLOW. I think our party was there for 2 hours, not by choice. They just never gave us the check for a really long time. We had to get up and pay directly to them so we can leave. Food was ok. I'm vegetarian so I didn't expect anything too spectacular. I ordered cheese enchiladas. They were yummy. The drinks REALLY disappointed me. I came here specifically for that jellyfish bubble cocktail drink. They literally gave it to me without the bubble. She knew that was the only reason I ordered it. She just said their machine isn't working... and expected me to take this drink? No. I don't want it. I'm surprised she even brought it to the table. We stopped by La Poplar in Porter Ranch on a Tuesday night and really wanted to like this place. The food was actually pretty good -- flavors were solid and the portions were satisfying. Unfortunately, the bartender service just wasn't up to the same level. Wasn't acknowledged/greeted when we first sat down for a few minutes, and the lack of attention really killed the vibe for us. It wasn't that busy either. It's a nice spot with potential, and I'd be open to trying it again in hopes the service improves, but this visit left us feeling a little let down. read more

After a month, I decided to return to La Popular at Porter Ranch. I was pleasantly surprised that Natalie was our server once again. I was so pleased as again she recommended drinks, and was open to modifications to the drink to my liking. The best thing was her personal approach by sharing she remembered us, and what we ordered...amazing! Looking forward to my next visit at La Popular! First and last time to this restaurant. They take reservations and walk-ins. Walked in at 7:23PM and was given a 45min to 1 hour wait time, "hopefully sooner". After an hour of waiting, I checked in with host and told I was coming up and 4th in line. Checked in 20 minutes later and this time I was told it would be "a while longer". Another 20 minutes later I spoke to a different host. I'm not the kind to complain but in this case its what finally got us seated after waiting over an 1 hour 40+ minutes. Only to wait another 30+ minutes for our food even after ordering immediately as we were seated. Host are horrible and need to be retrained on estimating wait times. Don't waste you time! read more

Our hosts were very welcoming, and our server was amazing! Maria made us feel right at home, explained the menu and gave a great rundown of her favorite cocktails . The watermelon hibiscus margarita was delish...and I don't like watermelon ! The hubs had the LP marg...really yum. Based on her recommendations, we had the quesobirria tacos, the al pastor tacos and started with their guac. Honestly, everything was really good! It's not your traditional Mexican fare, just so you know. The only issue we had were the beans, which were more salty than we would have liked. When I called and spoke with manager Albert he continued to say it's not the restaurants problem and to contact Door dash instead of offering to put in our correct order for pick up. I explained to him that the restaurant was at fault for packing the wrong food but he continued to be rude and said it's not his problem and nothing they can do.
