I had a birthday party for my daughter. I ordered four dozen tacos, two dozen chicken two dozen ground beef. I also ordered 36 burritos, Carne, Asada and BCR... I will never order from them again...the tacos that I ordered with the ground beef apparently they make their meat in some kind of a liquid It's not like your normal ground beef taco. The tacos I wanted were crispy. Those also are not like your normal taco shell they are the store-bought ones that are already crispy. I did not know this when I ordered.. the ground beef tacos fell apart by the time I got home with the food and people were able to eat, which wasn't very long. The chicken tacos I got were pieces of chicken in these cold, store-bought shells, no cheese nothing...chicken thrown in a taco shell... I said to the waitress, aren't you going to put cheese on them? She said I can give you a container with cheese ... carne asada burritos were very dry and had very little cheese. The BCR's had so much rice in them that you couldn't even taste the beans. It was an awful expensive experience. Normally their food is good when you go into the restaurant or their taco trucks, but I will never order a large order like that again it was awful, I was so embarrassed to serve it. I told them I was going to pick it up at 1:30. I had to sit there for a half an hour and wait for my order. Wait for them to prepare it my party started at two so there were guests already at my home waiting for me. Never again.!!!!! read more

The staff was friendly and the service was fast. I ordered from their Lunch Special menu, as those prices were reasonable for a sit-down restaurant. As for our food, it was just "okay". I liked it, but the burrito at La Costa is better and cheaper than La Primavera. My burrito here was on the drier side and had less flavor too. My favorite Mexican restaurant in Martinez! Service is always friendly and the food is so good. To be honest, it usually does take a little while for the food to be served. However, unlimited fresh chips and salsa help pass the time (and when I'm short on time, I can just go to their taco truck to get my fix)! The only thing that would make La Primavera better would be margaritas. I always find myself wishing for a margarita while I'm there, but they do serve wine and beer. My current favorite dishes to order are the al pastor nachos and the autentica birria de chivo. The nachos are supposed to be an appetizer, but my husband and I can easily share an order as our meal. The ingredients are layered nicely between the chips so you never run out of toppings and they put lots of meat and cheese. The goat birria is very tender and served with beans, rice, and your choice of fresh flour or corn tortillas. Never had goat? Give it a try! But they also serve a beef version that I'm sure tastes just as good. read more

The food is good and the prices are fair. You get nice healthy portions with fast service. I work in the area so I usually do take out and I am always satisfied. My office is pretty small so it's usually a group order of 3-4 and we all enjoy our meal. I definitely recommend this place if you are in the area and craving Mexican cuisine. My favorite are the taquitos; they are very filling. When I'm not as hungry I order the child's plate burrito but it is also very filling. I haven't tried their happy hour because I am on the clock however I see that it is offered everyday. This place really is a hidden gem for me and my colleagues. read more

My wife purchased 3 dozen tacos, and 3 dozen enchiladas, and a order of beans and an order of rice for catering. This order was just placed and served yesterday on Sunday for my step daughters sweet 16. We typically use Cinco De Mayo. But they aren't open on sundays. So we gave La Primavera the opportunity since we have dinned there before and we found the food to be OK. So by the time we take the food home the taco shells were soggy. We ordered beef tacos, but got some sort of beef hash with potatoes, and carrots in the hash that was just far to wet for the taco shells. The taco shells seem to be a cheap, very low corn tortilla content and a higher flour content which had the tacos soggy and falling apart within an hour of receiving. They were mush, and not pleasant on the plate for serving. We ended up throwing out half the order. The chicken enchiladas appeared to use a cheap canned enchilada sauce. There was no other filler in the enchiladas. No cheese, no enhancements to compliment the chicken. Much of the chicken was over cooked and dry. The enchilada sauce was obvious it came from a can and had very little flavors to it. There was no cheese on top of the enchiladas. People are about 2/3 of the enchiladas but we threw out the last third as they were to bland, and dry and not worth saving. Total we spent was $230. Worst value we have had for catering. La Primavera definitely needs to step up the catering. For having a full fledged restaurant versus a mobile taco truck. There are many taco trucks out performing and enhancing their foods to make it appealing for those that consume their foods. We would of been better off ordering dominoes pizza, the catering was that bad. read more

Great hole-in-the-wall local gem with unfussy fare. (Heads up, it's easy to miss aside from the white folding sign out front of the small parking lot) The inside is a converted diner with beautiful mexican country scenes painted all over the walls but the rest of the restaurant is very casual. We were seated and given salsa/chips quickly upon arriving and the service was friendly. I got the Fajitas Primavera, which consists of bacon wrapped shrimp atop peppers and onions and smothered in a red cream sauce which was absolutely delicious and my husband got the goat which was tender and the sauce it was in was flavorful. It's a good value and the portions are quite hefty. We will definitely be returning, although like many others have said here this place would be greatly improved with margaritas! read more

This place is super authentic and you can taste it in the food. I came for lunch a few days ago and really enjoyed the meal. I highly recommend starting with ceviche if you are looking for a starter. The flavor is really good and the shrimp had the right texture for the most part. The chips and salsa are also really good (usually an indicator of Mexican restaurants for me). I got the shrimp diablo plate which was good. The plates are a little pricier than traditional Mexican restaurants, but this place is definitely worth a try. read more

As we were being seated I noticed that tortillas were being made. I had the combination fajitas and my daughter had the Chili Verde. Both were excellent and we chose the corn tortillas which were fresh. The place was very clean and the staff was attentive and helpful. For dessert we shared Flan which was very big and delicious. Possibly the worst Mexican food I've had. So confused by the raves about this place. Authentic?? Yeah...no. Extremely bland, dry food. Terrible service. My chicken taco came in a store bought crispy shell with what tasted like boiled chicken with NO flavor. Place wasn't busy yet service was super slow we almost felt like we were purposely being ignored. I'm guessing the fans of this place are Gringos who think even the mildest salsa is "too spicy". Everyone, I am having a conundrum. My conundrum is between La Primavera and Cinco de Mayo. I think I'm going to have to choose La Primavera. Based solely on their enchilada sauce alone. Both kinds! Red and Green! I ordered the #13 two Green Chicken Enchiladas with Rice and Beans. My brother ordered the two beef Taco's with one Red Enchilada. My Enchiladas were some of the best Ive ever had. The sauce was so authentic and delicious. It was savory, smoky and had the green chile goodness that green sauce was meant to have. I couldn't believe every bite that I was taking. The chips were homemade and their salsa was so fresh and light. It had the perfect amount of onions in it. Now, I love Cinco De Mayo. But the sauce here is second to non for a local spot. I will always go back for Cinco's guacamole and bean dip but sorry they are off the Mole sauce radar from now on. I want to come back here everyday. Its clawing at the back of my mind to come and eat more green sauce on anything. Put it in a shot glass and Ill chug it. This sauce is going to be the corner stone of my pregnancy. read more

I've enjoyed food from the lunch truck before, but today was my first experience dining inside the restaurant. I was lunching alone so I sat at the bar. I was immediately greeted and given a clean menu and a choice of mild or hot salsa to go with my chips. Hot, please! The chips and my water came at the same time, and I ordered a crunchy shrimp taco, a soft taco with grilled fish, and a side salad. The salad was delicious. A little Italian dressing drizzled over lettuce, garbanzo beans, and a beet and more. Chips were light and crispy and the hot salsa was spicy and delicious. And the best part, my two tacos were outstanding. The grilled fish was seasoned very well (the soft corn tortilla fell apart but was also fresh and tasty). The shrimp taco had a crispy shell that also broke into pieces, but the yummy shrimp were cooked perfectly and had lots of lettuce and cheese on top. I was also offered more spicy salsa without asking - it was so good! Service was great and my tacos were delicious (and lunch only totaled about $10). Definitely will be back! read more

I've been eating here long enough to see the mural (that is amazing btw) go up, little by little. I almost consider La Primavera family. It's always hopping at lunchtime. Everyone that works here is very attentive and they hustle. My friend and I sat at the bar today and the view was delicious, if ya know what I mean. ;) You have a full view of the cooking staff. I was so angry: I went to pay for it with a credit card and was told there was a minimum to use the card. Next stop: La Primavera. The entrance is hidden away off the main artery from I-680 to beautiful downtown Martinez. But I'm glad I found it; I keep looking for good ways to clog *my* main artery. Food was good. I had chicken mole, and that was an unusually tasty sauce on that chicken. My wife had a two-item special with a soft chicken taco and beef enchilada. And my girl ate most of the tortilla chips. What's better than the sauce, though, is that not only is the decor is faux Mexican. That's quite typical with these low-cost diners. But the managers got these murals painted all over the walls. Shows that they really care about the place, and it adds a good ambience. Good for kids, good for a date night, good for lunch, good all around. I was looking forward to trying this place because of all the good reviews I saw, but am pretty disappointed. I ordered to go. I ordered the burroto famoso whoch is just a burrito with rice and beans, topped with cheese and enchilada sauce. No where on the menu did it state that it would include sour cream, guacamole, or Pico de Gallo. I waited 40 minutes for my order, which I guess isn't that long but I was pretty hungry and after driving home to eat it, found I couldn't eat it because of all the extras that were added into it. Stopped in here for lunch after jury duty because it was right where I was able to park, and I was starving. Seated almost right away and in a booth, which was very nice, as it was just me. Didn't want too much, and was super pleased to see the lunch special small burrito ($7.50). This excited me because it is unusual to even be able to get a small one these days and any burrito is a guilty pleasure. Rough morning, so I thought I'd treat myself and get a horchata ($3 .50) as well. Chips and both mild and hot salsas came right away, but as someone else has noted, dry, super yellow store bought chips. Seems to be almost the norm these days. I can deal. Ordered a veggie burrito, which is supposed to be beans, rice, cheese, guacamole and sour cream. Disappointment #1, no cheese. Disappointment #2, literally tepid at best. The list goes on. Served with the guacamole and sour cream on top, so I had to scrape that off to pick it up. Because isn't that half the fun of eating a burrito? To just shove it in your mouth? But no! I couldn't even pick it up because niether end was folded. How hard is it to fold a burrito, already? Not to mention totally lackluster ingredients. I have had burritos where just the fluffy perfection and seasoning of the rice were almost trancendant. This was not that, for sure. Second worst burrito of my life. And the absolute worst horchata of my life. Chalky beyond belief, and redolent of everything artificial and nothing natural. Anyway, I see a lot of folks like this place. Maybe it was an off day, new staff, something like that on the burrito. Maybe they do other things better. But if your beans and rice suck... I don't know. It's a pretty simple thing to make. I struggled with this one. 3 stars was my thought initially upon tasting their food, but as the evening went on, the lack of service kept bringing it down. By the time I left, I realized that I would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone I know which meant that 3 stars wasn't warranted... and since it wasn't completely disgusting, 1 star is unfair... So 2 stars it is. We were seated promptly, menus were brought over as well as water & chips n salsa. Orders taken shortly thereafter. It took awhile for our order, and then... The food arrived in stages such that our fajitas sat on the table ALONE for about 3 minutes waiting for the included side items (beans, rice, sour cream, guac), and then ANOTHER 2 minutes waiting for the tortillas. That is UNacCEPTable when you can't really begin eating fajitas without the tortillas! Also, they will NOT stop by to see if you need anything! Don't bother waiting for that, instead you must loudly flag someone down or walk to the cashier counter to ask for basic things like napkins, silverware, hot sauce or salsa, water fill up, a box for leftovers, etc... after boxing up our food, we even had to go up and ask for our check!! And expect that when you DO go ask the cashier-lady (who's not doing much), even though she is standing within arm's reach of the items you need (napkins, box), she will still yell over to the busiest worker there & ask HER to get it for you! Real cute. Finally, the difference in cost for the duo (chicken, steak) fajitas VS. the combo (chicken, steak, shrimp) was about $3... and we counted THREE shrimp on top!! I love this little restaurant and the friendly staff. This is my go-to spot when I'm not feeling up to cooking dinner. My favorite dishes are the Spicy Chicken Soup (I order it with extra vegetables and cilantro), whole fried Pescado and their special Goat Meat dish.
