Mom and I went to lunch here today.. I always have liked the atmosphere, a bar area and a few booths. Clean restroom. Friendly enough staff and you can watch them cook your meal. I chose this today because I am short on time and patience as of now and parking is easy and Mexican sounded good but mom doesn't like your typical taqueria, she likes the more restaurant feel. All of that was great! I was going to order soup here which I understand is fantastic! For some reason I ditched my plan and ordered chili rellenos. Me and mom both love chili rellenos, unfortunately these were pretty gross. Small ass chili in a boat load of breading that was soggy as could be. Beans and rice were good. 4.95 for my Pacifco beer (much needed). Chips and salsa complimentary and on point. We will return but I will order off the lunch menu. read more

We ordered the Mexican nachos, asada fries, and two chicken burritos. The food was good with the exception of the sauce that was on the burritos. We like wet burritos but for some reason the sauce that was on these burritos had a bad aftertaste. It was to the point that my wife didn't even eat her burrito. This is a pretty decent little restaurant. It kind of reminds me of Los Cerros in El Sobrante. In fact, I could probably write mostly the same review for both places. Like Los Cerros, La Primavera is a homey place with solid food. Nothing to scream over...just tasty, simple, stick-to-your-ribs food. I brought my parents here over the weekend and nervously experienced the restaurant through them. You know how it is...when you take someone to eat you feel personally responsible over whether they enjoy the food. My dad is picky and my mom is hard to please. Kinda-sorta the same thing but manifested differently. My dad will quietly point out to us what he doesn't like then put on a long face and pick at the food, while my mom will not hesitate to make a big stink with the waitstaff. Well, the only complaint they had at La Primavera was that we didn't have a dedicated waitperson, which caused some confusion while the various meal components were being brought to the table. My dad loved his tostada salad. It's been a while since I saw him eat with such relish, which made me very happy. My mom ordered the carne asada plate and devoured her food as well. They both commented on how fresh everything was, even pointing out the bright and unblemished cilantro in the table salsa. I had the green enchiladas with cheese. I have a complaint about those...there was too much cheese! I know, I know...who complains about too much cheese?! It's a good problem to have. Come in at least once a week for the Taco Salad with chicken. Always big chunks of shredded chicken! Fresh produce as always in my salad with guac and sour cream. Come in for a really affordable lunch between 11-3 typically under $10. Breakfast is always good too! read more

My experience was okay but I wish menudo had more flavor it was very bland no taste at all. At least chili oil was extremely hot to me. I needed oregano instead of cilantro & lot of salt also lot of lime to give some flavor. I give the menudo a 1 just because tripe was tender. My drink was good, I like it. Don't get wrong probably the rest of other meals on the menu would been better, but my experience with menudo that I ate. I probably won't come back to this restaurant. Ordered my food 1hr in advance so they can have it ready. Got there and they just stared at me running up and down everyone that came after me got there order and I still stood for 30 minutes waiting and the woman's there where just blaming each other asked for a manager was told not available. While waiting I noticed they weren't even cooking food they just served cooked food and put in a tray run it thru an oven to reheat it. Never seen anyone cooking at all. Just realized that is not fresh made food and for the price the service not worth it I left! I would not even give it a star! Our family has been coming to this restaurant for over 15 years now. Growing up on Mexican food, I was spoiled in SF with the variety of options and this restaurant has in all honesty surpassed any Mexican food I've had in the city. From the moment you walk in, you can feel and smell the authenticity. It's as if you're taken back to Mexico. The food is always served, fresh, hot and with a smile. The servers are always moving, remember our names and even orders which makes you feel more like family than an average customer. The enchiladas verdes and pozole are both top notch! My daughter scarfed down her fajitas before I could photograph but those are probably my favorite item here. What tops off all of the dishes is their hand made fresh corn tortillas. You can see the worker pressing them and rolling them and it's pretty mesmerizing to watch. Not ordering those with any dish is a crime in and of itself. My weakness is Mexican food and this place definitely reminds me of my moms home cooking. Now, the only dish I ever order here is their Caldo de res (beef stew). It's the best stew I've had and its flavors are has authentic has it gets. Their stew has chunks of beef, chayote, carrots, lettuce, green beans, corn on the cob and you garnish it with cilantro, onions and lime. It's served with a side of rice and home made corn tortillas. I just dump my rice in the bowl. I also order a michelada with a modelo beer. They add Clamato juice, lime and add a spicy Tajín on the rim with a tamarind stick that has Chile and salt. It's a great addition to the michelada. read more

I found out this place overcharged us. I always order their beef vegetable soup ($13.95) and an horchata ($5+ some change) which averages out with taxes is 19.88. My bf went and paid with cc and signed the receipt. Scribbled out the tip line. When I asked him out how much he showed me on the account that they charged $23.86- I was so confused? For one soup and a drink no way. So I called immediately and asked for the prices. I waited out of courtesy for the owner so I can talk to him. Now 5 bucks isn't a big deal but imagine how many ppl this happened to. Clearly I showed him the transaction - and what I ordered plus the signed receipt on their end. Obviously someone must have hit something BECAUSE THE CHARGE WAS THE SAME AMOUNT SUGGESTED If you were to leave 20% gratuity. How convenient much. Now I know when things get busy ppl make mistakes- if they had apologized and said I must have hit it I would have shrugged my shoulders and say it's fine keep it just be careful next time BUT let me tell you how they handled it. I called and the gal that answered told me to call back bc she was busy. I said Uhhh no you overcharged me don't ignore me. Then I asked for the owner and ended up talking to the manager. SHOWED HIM everything and this is what he says- NOT OUR PROBLEM SO CALL YOUR BANK AND DEAL WITH IT. SO YOUR SYSTEM AND BUSINESS OVERCHARGES PPL AND ITS NOT YOUR PROBLEM?? To have the bank deal with it but YOU STILL POCKET THE MONEY?? No no no. I told him that it's not about the 5 dollars it's about how he handles it and it's not okay to overcharge ppl. I come here all the freakin time! He just said call your bank. Im not having my bank pay me back something that you took. You still pocket the money and someone else has to pay for your mistake. Ok Ok, I know I have a lot of favorites when it comes to Mexican food!! But hands down this is the best spot in northern California! The place looks like a hole in the wall. Boy can looks be deceiving! Lets start with the awesome staff. They are polite, friendly, and definitely love what they do! Lets move on to the atmosphere. The inside is quaint, with wonderfully painted murals on the walls. Everything is clean and the silverware is spotless. Now lets move on to the FOOD. Oh wow! The salsa is delicious with two options of just the right heat and flavor. the tortillas are freshly made and the corn tortillas are the best I have ever had! My boyfriend had the combination fajitas, they steak was amazing! I had the chile relleno and WOW! The beer came in a frosted glass and was ice cold. The chips had a nice crunch and zero grease. I could go on and on, but my best advise TRY it for yourself! If you are a local you probably already know! If you are from out of town GO! I had a birthday party for my daughter. I ordered four dozen tacos, two dozen chicken two dozen ground beef. I also ordered 36 burritos, Carne, Asada and BCR... I will never order from them again...the tacos that I ordered with the ground beef apparently they make their meat in some kind of a liquid It's not like your normal ground beef taco. The tacos I wanted were crispy. Those also are not like your normal taco shell they are the store-bought ones that are already crispy. I did not know this when I ordered.. the ground beef tacos fell apart by the time I got home with the food and people were able to eat, which wasn't very long. The chicken tacos I got were pieces of chicken in these cold, store-bought shells, no cheese nothing...chicken thrown in a taco shell... I said to the waitress, aren't you going to put cheese on them? She said I can give you a container with cheese ... carne asada burritos were very dry and had very little cheese. The BCR's had so much rice in them that you couldn't even taste the beans. It was an awful expensive experience. Normally their food is good when you go into the restaurant or their taco trucks, but I will never order a large order like that again it was awful, I was so embarrassed to serve it. I told them I was going to pick it up at 1:30. I had to sit there for a half an hour and wait for my order. Wait for them to prepare it my party started at two so there were guests already at my home waiting for me. Never again.!!!!! read more
