While exploring Maui my fiancé spotted a small sign for this restaurant, so we stopped to check it out. This is a really cozy restaurant with great ambiance. Everyone that worked at the restaurant had French accents, which is a plus. The server gets bonus points for her black leather Chuck Taylors. We ordered a fish sandwich and a spinach and crab crepe. My fiancé was ecstatic about the bread on the sandwich being authentic French bread and I found the bread to be quite good as well as the rest of the sandwich. I was excited about the crepe having real crab meat instead of krab. I believe they made the dressing on the salad out of the lilikoi they grew on the fence in the dining area, it was also delicious. We finished off the meal with a deliciously tender apricot tart. I'm guessing the only other place you'll be able to find a meal that tastes like this is in France. The baked goods (i.e. tart and bread) are like nothing I've ever had. The downside is it's extremely hard to spot from the road. We found it by pure luck. read more

We have gone to this place several times over the last few years when we visit the island and it has never disappointed! The food is always so good and fresh. Sometime there can be a bit of a wait, so be patient, it's worth it! They have several versions of eggs benny, savoury and sweet crepes, and of course wonderful French pastries. It's a busy place on the weekend and the pastries go fast. The patio has beautiful views because it's located up country in Kula, which is a beautiful area of the island. Check it out! read more

We go here just about every week to take care of our pastry fix. Croissants, scones.. their fruit tarts taste even better than they look. And if you're craving something a little more substantial... try the Eggs Benedict. A. Maze. Ing. To be honest, the dressing for the salad that comes with it isn't our favorite... but the Benedict is so good, it overwhelms everything else. This was a bit of a drive from where we were staying on Ma'alaea but we did it three times. The Brunch is amazing, not to mention the pastries. They sell out early so try to get there before 10am. Crepes and Eggs Benedict in a variety of ways are all great. The special one day was seafood in a puff pastry that was one of the best meals on the island, and we were there for a month. Just ate here a few days ago for lunch. It's a very small restaurant with outside seating. There were probably about 10-12 tables. I had the Roast Beef Au Ju sandwich and it was really good! It cost about $11.95 for the sandwich and it includes a salad as well. The Au Ju dip was really good. On the flip side the service was a little slow because there was only 1 server for lunch and it did pick up a little after we sat down. We asked for water refills during our lunch but the server forgot. Lastly, we decided to go and pay at the register since the server was busy. Please don't waste your time like we did. Waited for 30 minutes to be seated while there where 3 open tables. Got our table, 15 minutes until anyone took our order. Another 15 minutes before our coffees arrived. Truly abominable service, then after another 15 to wait for our meal, the food was poor at best. The poached eggs for my Benedict were so overdone the yolk was turning green, first bite. The same time as I discovered my poorly cooked egg my partner had to spit out a piece of bone and cartilage from the first bite of her Chicken and Brie Crepe. The coffee was great but selecting this establishment is my greatest regret on Maui. Found a great Bistro with good food and quality service only 1 Mile away, it was fabulous after wasting 80 minutes at La Providence. read more

Came here all the way from Wailuku town to enjoy some great local upcountry pastry and food but only to be disappointed with such bad service on the outside. Man in the inside was very nice,courteous and friendly though. Breakfast wasn't served till 9 so we waited outside from 830 on the table hoping to have our order taken at 9 but the server never came around to say a single word but only to other patrons, even ones that sat after us. Very disappointed with the lady with dreadlocks, who by the look on her face doesn't seem to enjoy her job. I won't be coming back here for a very long time. read more

I am a Kula resident and neighbor of this establishment. I've had breakfast here occasionally and have gotten pastries here many times. I went to get croissants for my daughter and I today, but they were out, even though it was only 25 minutes after opening. This was the third time in a row over a few weeks that I'd gone there and they were out (the last two times they were sold out less than an hour after opening so I went earlier this time). When I pointed this out to the staff and asked why that is, the owner started hurling insults at me (including several F-bombs) and told me to "go buy sh*tty croissants at Costco" and stop "breaking his bal!s". He did this in front of his staff and other customers, luckily my 7-year old daughter was waiting in the car. I've never experienced anything like this and am still blown away that anyone would speak to a customer this way. A simple "sorry, the croissants are not ready yet" would have been perfectly fine. This was the owner, mind you, not a manager. Someone with a quicker temper than mine might have slugged him, it was that bad. Needless to say, my family will never give him our business again and we will discourage our friends and neighbors from doing so either. If you do decide to go to La Provence, be prepared to potentially be verbally abused. This guy is rude at best and potentially dangerous at worst, be warned! And lastly, here is my advice to you, Croissant Nazi: if you're so thin-skinned that you can't handle questions or feedback from your customers, don't run a business! read more

I think the fact that this place probably the only french restaurant around the area makes the customers gave them undeservingly 5 stars. The pastry wasn't bad.. but, it's not exactly that good either. Yelpers overhyped this place by a ton. The croissant taste is good. However, the texture is closed and the layers are too thick making it dense and not as fluffy as what a good croissant should taste like. Now, as good as the food might be, it doesn't warrant for the attitude the waitresses display. I cannot believe how snobby they are. They just IGNORED us who wait in front to be seated. The restaurant wasn't even packed. There are so many seats available. I am starting to think if this has anything to do with our ethnicity? So, we finally left. All the yelpers negative review about the waitresses attitude is definitely accurate. I am sorry La Provence. Maybe your pastries are considered decent by the locals, but that does not give you a pass to be freaking rude to your patrons. My boyfriend and I wanted to have breakfast here, I called ahead of time to make sure about their hours. The woman who picked up the phone was extremely rude and clueless! Wasn't a good sign, but we were hungry and going to Kula, based on the reviews and pics I thought it might be a good experience, but we got there and the waitress shun us off and took forever to sit us, she looked vulgar and was very unfriendly with an attitude, she had long hair with dread locks , very unkempt and showing way too much of her hanging top. As if she worked at a low life bar she presented herself! My. My boyfriend asked if I was sure I wanted to eat here, I should've said let's try some place else! The whole experience was bad, she first said it was too late and couldn't serve us anymore, then comes back out and says we'd be seated, I was mad!!! Then we order coffee and crepés, took forever, her attitude and service were deplorable, the food wasn't great at all, then I had to get up and bring my cup to get a refill from counter, unacceptable, I had tried making eye contact with her several times but to no avail! We went to breakfast here on 1/5/19 and we were SO disappointed in the food, the service, and the quality. We ordered their Eggs Benedict and it was a piss poor presentation of a heaping mound of careless garbage. It was extremely dry, very chintzy on the hollandaise, and the food was barely warm. Perhaps, because the hollandaise did not emulsify, the cook wanted to spare us, or try and mask it. Cook should of made it over. Still, it wouldn't of helped this pathetic excuse for a meal. So, so, so disappointing. We waited a looooooong time for both the food and the bill, with no apology, and there was hardly anyone there. This is a cool little cafe up in Kula. Prices are reasonable. First visit. Outside eating area. Crepes (sweet and savory), croissants, eggs Benedict. Servings are quite small but given the prices- it makes sense. There is a little inside bakery area where you can buy fresh croissants etc. We arrived early afternoon and it became windy/drizzly. I've read some of the reviews on the internet and had a similar experience last time I came there with the slow service BUT some things in life are worth waiting for!!!!! This certainly applies at this establishment. Jesse waited on us and as the only waiter on a Sunday morning had his hands full , but his attitude and positive manner made the wait pleasant while enjoying an excellent cup of coffee in enjoying the outdoor sounds and smells of Kula. My wife ordered the Spinach and mushroom crepe which arrived with fresh local lettuce salad with just enough dressing and potato accompaniment. Crepe was the real thing filled with Bechamel sauce, and champignons and epinard. My eggs were poached perfectly with hollandaise made just right. If you do not mind waiting and its worth it, the price and food value here is one of the best on Maui., and the Apricot tarts and chocolate pastry horns are as authentic as going to France. Stopped here to grab breakfast before our ride down the road to Hana. We were blown away by this place. First off the restaurant was, for lack of a more masculine term, charming. Fountains, banana trees, soft music. They nailed the ambiance. I'm all about the food, however, and the true test was ahead. The menu is split between baked goods, crepes, and eggs Benedict. My girlfriend got the eggs Benedict with crab and she claims it was the best she'd ever eaten (This is coming from someone who orders this dish at every breakfast place we go to and is the highest compliment she can pay). The crepe I ordered was a delicious swirl of chicken and cheese only to be topped by the apple tart we split. We finished by grabbing a lemon meringue tart and spinach quiche to go and devoured these later on the bumpy road. This is a hidden gem, with a lovely outdoor courtyard seating area, Upcountry near Kula. Coming back down from a late morning trip to Haleakala, my husband and I didn't arrive in time before their famous almond croissants had sold out - but we will be back. The food and service was excellent. We really enjoyed the salmon eggs benedict and the spinach mushroom crêpe with our cappuccino coffees. They only serve breakfast/brunch & lunch and their hours vary, so be sure to double check before you make the trip or this restaurant may be closed. Also, their website says they don't take credit cards. Other than that, they are doing what they do, very well! read more

Cute place in the upcountry. Great for breakfast. Wonderful food. I had the lilikoi crepe--so yummy, and a quiche--best I have ever had! My husband had a savory crepe, was awesome, and he loved the potato with it. Worst part was I wanted a scone and planned on getting it at the end, and when I went to get one they were all gone! Will not do that next time! The parties were incredible! They all looked amazing, well priced and were so good. Will be a regular stop for me on the way to the winery for breakfast. Not to be missed! In fact I don't have another negative Yelp review! But the experience of my wife and me was so awful at this restaurant that I feel obligated to warn away other potential patrons. My wife and I went to La Provence at 12:30 PM for my birthday. I'm a francophile, and we both like French baked goods, so we thought we couldn't go wrong. After the waitress seated us, we waited a long time for her to take our order. Whatever. Like I said, slow service wouldn't ordinarily cause me to write a negative review. But when the waitress came to take our order, we learned the following: The kitchen was out of crepe batter. The only remaining items on the menu were eggs Benedict and quiche with ham. My wife told the waitress that, as a pregnant woman, she was unable to eat raw eggs and asked whether the kitchen could fry or scramble the egg on an eggs Benedict. The waitress told us no. My wife is vegetarian. She asked if the kitchen could make anything other than quiche with ham. The waitress said no. I asked if the so-called bakery had any other baked goods. The waitress said no. As hungry as we were, we value the health of our future son, and we left this self-described bakery to eat elsewhere. To La Provence, I advise the following: Don't call yourself a bakery if you only have one item, quiche with ham. Quiche with ham does not a bakery make. Don't run out of crepe batter at 12:30 PM. Make more. It can't be difficult. Respect the health concerns of pregnant women and vegetarians. They are not a fringe group. read more

Amanda was cashier-I got when one of the other waiters were busy making coffee. My grand daughter asked her to put the scone in that we paid for and the other guy forgot. She was super rude and explained multiple times she couldn't help us. She even rolled her eyes and gave us bad customer service. She even then turned over to the other guy who forgot the scone we ordered and loudly told him: can you make sure they paid for that scone you forgot to put in. What bad customer service. The whole time she didn't even make eye contact when she was less than 2 feet away from the scone on the counter. Too bad because the pastries were tasty. We drove on vacation all the way here to have brunch and they were closed. It said they were open on Yelp (it was 9 am on a Friday morning). The only days this place is closed according to the sign on their restaurant is Monday and Tuesday. I tried calling twice and nobody answered.
