Stumbled on this place because I wanted Carne en Su Jugo!!! Probably one of the best I've ever had! Definitely be back.

    Chicken taco plate

Well this is a hard one. I wasn't a fan but my husband sure was. Go figure! Once you get passed that the location is in an old worn down industrial park the service was prompt and courteous. Most people ordered to go and lots of regulars. As for the food I played it safe with 2 chicken tacos rice/bean plate. The rice was tasty but unless you are a fan of lots of greasy cherizo in your beans (color of refried beans were orange) it's not for you. The quantity was good but I couldn't figure out what was up with chopped taco chicken until I realized that it tasted like something I may have warmed up twice at home that changes the flavor. As for my husband's food (chile rellenos n carne asada taco plate) it must have been delicious because he never came up for air! Their B health dept rating thru me for a loop but hopefully all issues have been resolved.

    Nachos

Ordered asada nachos..these were not nachos. They were more like chilaquiles. They left them too long in the microwave, the cheese was burnt. The "chips" were stale.

(See attached picture). This restaurant is in such an obscure location, I can't believe I was going to a Burrito Track across the street for so many years not knowing this place existed. Friendly staff and prompt service. The unfortunate negative is it's location and I'm referring to parking. There must be 8 business crammed into this lot. With a bar to the right and a laudermat on its left finding a parking spot is like winning the lotto. Now layer in one driveway and you have to make a 3 point turn just to navigate to leave. The short answer is I will absolutely go back to this place as long as there is a parking space to be had.

Well I received the flautas (which were very tasty) but they were BALD. There was about one tablespoon worth of guacamole on the side. And a tiny little pinch of lettuce. I immediately asked the waitress if it was missing the toppings, and she said "yes it's missing sour cream." She left and came back and said there was no more sour cream. A Mexican restaurant without sour cream? Oh! really wish I would've known that before ordering because, like I said, I love my flautas drenched in toppings. I would've ordered something else had I known there was no sour cream. I requested some extra guacamole to make up for the lack of sour cream. With guacamole and the salsa that comes with chips, it still tasted pretty good but my heart was wishing I had sour cream and tons of cheese. It was definitely a tasty meal but was a HUGE miss on the lack of toppings, which is what I crave when I order flautas. I've never seen flautas look so sad and lonely. The rice and beans were okay. Not too bad not too good. Just ok. It's a shame the restaurant is super beautiful but the food doesn't really seem authentic.

Even though the restaurant is small and busy, we were seated right away, which was a great start. Our waiter Washington, was fantastic, friendly, attentive, and made our whole experience even better. The atmosphere was perfect too. They had music playing at just the right volume and a big TV showing the live Dodger game, which the kids loved. We started with chips and salsa. The salsa had the perfect level of spice for everyone at the table. The kids ordered horchatas and were excited about the unlimited refills (something you don't always see at other restaurants!). The drinks for the adults were just as impressive. My wife's watermelon margarita on the rocks was perfectly made. It was not overly sweet or syrupy like at some places. Our friends had the "El Jefe" margaritas, and they definitely didn't skimp on the tequila! For dinner, everything was a hit. The kids loved their meals. Albóndigas soup, shrimp tacos, and street tacos--all served with rice and beans. The adult dishes were just as good. The carne asada arrachera was cooked perfectly, the chile verde was full of flavor, and my chicken mole was delicious with a great balance of spicy and sweet without being overwhelming. The portions were very generous, and everything came with rice, beans, and both corn and flour tortillas. The only small thing I would've preferred differently was the chicken in my mole. I personally would've liked a leg and thigh instead of sliced chicken breast but the dish was still very good overall. What really stood out was the hospitality. At the end of the meal, Washington offered us "holy water"-house tequila shots on the house--and it wasn't cheap tequila either! Then after the bill came, he surprised us again with another round of "holy water". That level of generosity and care really impressed us. We also learned that the restaurant has been there 20+ years and is family-run by him and his siblings, which made the experience feel even more personal. You can tell they have a loyal customer base--one couple even said, "See you tomorrow Washington!" The only feedback we'd offer (coming from a customer service background) is that we noticed a few guests waiting at the entrance without being greeted, and one couple actually left the restaurant. A simple "Welcome, we'll be right with you" would go a long way. That said, it didn't take away from our experience. Overall, amazing food, great service, generous portions, and a welcoming family atmosphere. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu!

Desvelado is a Spanish adjective meaning sleepless, wide awake, or unable to sleep. Insomnia, in…read moreother words. It seems to me that insomnia would be better suited to the name of a coffee shop than a Mexican restaurant, but names have never been my department. Let me begin by saying that the food was good, the beer was cold, and the bill was so reasonable that you almost felt you had gotten away with something. The place itself is another matter. The decorations are gauche in the determined way of a restaurant that has been decorated rather than furnished. The music is loud enough to discourage conversation, and the temperature was kept a skosh below uncomfortable, as though the management had made a study of the precise point at which a person begins to sweat. I had two El Sonora tacos, one beef and one carnitas, and both were excellent. The Anaheim pepper, stuffed with cheese, was the thing that pushed the taco from merely good into the territory of something worth remembering. The signature flautas were also very good, which surprised me because I have never been much of a flauta man. The beer came properly cold. They serve Victoria, my favorite Mexican beer and one that, for reasons I have never understood, is not available in nearly as many places as it ought to be. Then there was the bad. A waitress pushed two tables together to make a four-top. The resulting table was so uneven that it appeared to be considering collapse. It teetered to one side throughout the meal, and although the problem could have been corrected with two folded napkins under a table leg, nobody seemed interested in conducting such an operation. And then there was the ugly. A man sitting at the bar was eating his dinner and drinking a beer while taking intermittent puffs from a vape. There was something about the whole arrangement, the beer, the food, the vapor hanging around his face that made the place feel, for a moment, less like Southern California and more like Mexico. I suppose that is part of the charm they were going for. Anyway, the food was good. The beer was cold. The prices were fair. But restaurants are made up of more than tacos and beer, and Desvelado never quite managed to get the rest of it right. I can say with some confidence that I might be back.

I went on a taco run yesterday to try to find the best taco in Whittier…read more Started off the run with a keto taco mixed with asada and al pastor and then a regular tripa taco. Keto taco - toasted/grilled cheese instead of a regular tortilla - needed to be done a little more on one side as the cheese wasn't quite toasty enough to stay in place to slightly resemble the shape of a taco. Bit hard to eat, covered my hands in grease. Asada tastes almost boiled, and this being my 2nd or 3rd time getting the Asada here, it consistently tastes like it was boiled and not grilled. Unsure of meat quality or preparation, but there are no grill marks and it's a bit chewy. Same with the al pastor. Tripa taco was bizarre. Strips of flat skin instead of the usual roundish, cylindrical shape of tripa (intestine). Usually a saltier, fattier meat than asada, which is my preference but the one here was lacking in flavor and the texture threw me off a bit. Tripa can be chewy - unless requested extra done, which is how I normally order it - but there was no saving this tripa. I think it needs to be sliced differently, the cuts made it inedible. Brother shared some of his chorizo taco and it was the better of the bunch. Red chorizo, TJ style, although it was also lacking a teeny bit in flavor... onions and cilantro to the rescue! Still, mediocre. Salsas were ok, nothing out of the ordinary. Don't think the tortillas were homemade. Service was fine, cashier takes your order, dude at the counter was chill and had a friendly attitude. Seating was limited. Mostly bar style seating but the majority was in front of a window and it had so much heat trapped from the glass that it was kind of uncomfortable. Other seats are too close to the bathroom. Good for a quick bite or just pick-up orders. Wouldn't plan a sit down/dine-in visit. Parking is scarce and has really small spots, wouldn't come if you're driving a pick-up truck or anything like that. Food was reasonably priced, which is good, however; the food was lacking so I would not return.
