This place is close to us, so we were excited to come check this place out, but we left a little disappointed. We came on a Sunday morning and although there was a lot of people getting takeout or picking up phone orders, we got a table pretty fast. One waitress came to take our drink order and came back with chips and our order. Another guy came to take our order and then this is where they received the low stars. First of all, we were seated before another party and the waiter took their order 1st. Not a huge deal as he took ours right after but the wait time after is what really brought it down. It took a really long time to get our order. Yes, it did look busy but still for the amount of time we waited it honestly was ridiculous. I got the Enchiladas, and they were good, but I have had better. Now maybe my expectations were high due to the long wait, but I feel like for the amount of time I waited they should have been better. I will say we really liked the rice. Let's just with me saying that I am EXTREMELY picky about my menudo. It can't be be gamey, fatty, or leave that sticky feeling on your lips. Noemi's does it right. I am a barber so I don't easily get disgusted by hair but this was not a strand of hair from on top of someone's head. My husband's food was such a small portion and greasy. Noemi's is legendary in nuestra familia. My Aunt Vudi (aka Aurora) turned us on to this place in 1984. My dad use to send me up there to pick up 600 tamales for a big Christmas party he would always throw. We stopped doing the party and my brother who loves to cook took on the mantel of coordinating a family event that we make about 300 tamales at for the past 15 years. Fast forward to today. My brother had a knee surgery and said i can't do tamales this holiday season. I said no hay problema, i know a place. Having todo la familia over for Christmas eve so we called and ordered 10 dozen and everyone will be leaving with a six pack of tamales. It so great to go in there with a bunch of big old pots and the crew loads them up. I naturally sampled some of them when they came back to mi casa and before foiling and bagging them for a few days in the freezer... they are sooooo good, and i sent a dozen home with our nanni and asked for her families "rating". They are kinda tamale snobs . I got back a text "10 out of 10, all of us, so good". Small business, owners have been that this location for 15 + years. Mexican restaurant that serves great testing food. During this visit I decided to order the taco combo and since it was taco Tuesday I added the cabasa and caritias tacos server broght me the green salsa I usually just add salt and lemon but added the green salsa to half the taco which did not add to much heat but added some spicy flavors. The amount of rice and beans was lacking but had a good flavor beans made with chorizo to add a bit more flavor then most Mexican restaurants. It seriously saddens me to give this place one star. This was the place my whole family went to on Saturday mornings. When I was a kid, mom would wait in a LONG line at 6am to get a pot of their menudo. I would ask to come here for my birthday from age 6-13. My brother purchases DOZENS of their tamales for Christmas every year without fail. I've moved to the OC so I can't eat here as often as I'd like but when I'm in the area, I would come by to get my pork tamale. I was in the area today and was so happy to come in because it had been awhile. Since it was a Saturday morning, I was nervous I wouldn't get a sit. I walked in and it was dead. I sat and order their smallest menudo (the size of a cereal bowl) and one pork tamale. My food came quickly but the masa for the tamale was completely different and it was tiny. The menudo was watery with almost no meat. What little meat there was, was in small pieces. I reluctantly ate what little I could enjoy and paid. For the small tamale and kid size menudo it came to $12.02. Honestly! I have no problem paying what something it worth but I was shocked how much the price went up and the quality went down. This place is so imbedded in my family that I contacted my brother immediately and told him the sad news. He said that we won't be getting tamales from them anymore. I'm going to miss you, Noemi's.
