If you're looking for authentic Italian food for a date night or casual night out look no more! La Rustica is new hidden gem located in Oak Point right past Little Elm Bridge. The food and service were spot on. I never once had to ask for a refill. Our food came out within a reasonable time even though they were busy. We started off with the Mussels and Calamari. Both exceptional! I could have skipped the main course and ordered another round of Mussels!! For the main course we had Chicken Piccata and Linguine Alle Vongole and finished with Tiramisu. What a shame that some people can't differentiate between opening glitches in a Yelp review. You don't penalize with less stars for that. I grew up in Southern California, and while it has its problems, there is amazing food everywhere. I've also traveled the world and eaten in places renowned for their food. I guess I'm a little spoiled, but since moving to Texas I find the reviews are unrealistically critical. Too many doughnuts and chicken fingers I guess. And stop ordering "take out" to judge a restaurant. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. The food was good. It was prepared well, both in presentation and flavor. I had the pasta with bolognese sauce, and my wife had the chicken piccata. The sauce (or gravy, as they call it on the East Coast) was a northern Italian version with a bolder tomato paste taste (which I like - not everyone does). The piccata was a perfect blend of lemon and capers which is not all that easy to do without an overly salty taste. Theirs was not overly salty at all. The restaurant is not billed as family-style portions, so I'm not sure what some people expect for quantity. The service was excellent, and even the servers who were new to the industry were so attentive and sweet that the whole experience was a pleasure. We are thrilled the owners took a risk and we look forward to our next time in. It was smart to start off with a limited menu, but we are excited for even more choices even if they change it within a limited menu each month. Both Canoili and Tiramasu were excellent desserts and I'm pretty picky. Someone will complain, but that is Texas, I have discovered. read more

This place just opened, and I hope it stays! It's the perfect date night spot! First, out of the 4 dishes we ordered, five of them were so good. The whipped ricotta and tomatoes on the bruschetta was so fresh! The burrata caprese was as good as the one I had last year in NYC. And the gnocchi! Lord! I ate at the oldest Italian restaurant in the nation and had gnocchi there. The gnocchi at La Rustica was pretty close to that! Second, the service was wonderful. First time here and it was FANTASTIC!!!! The atmosphere was laid back, cozy and had a chill vibe. The service was top notch and the staff was very attentive and accommodating. The food was amazing! Very impressed. The restaurant clearly is overachieving. First, the food was very tasty with large portions, very nicely presented and a good value. I had the sausage pasta dish, the only thing they should probably warn the guests is that it's quite spicy and I like spicy but it's spicy. Excellent choice of wines. I was very impressed with the large number of waitstaff. Very hard to find these days. Very well trained and highly attentive always keeping my water glass full. The decor was very nice, and the choice of music was classic Italian-American, Dean Martin and company. Classy. So, good food, good service, good decor, good ambience. A few suggestions if I may. A little bit of training for the hostess would be nice. My wife and I were both dressed properly with me in a blazer and my wife, well dressed. While the hostess was friendly, she referred to us as "you guys" about four times. Just a little bit of training would be good to pull up that initial introduction to the experience for the guests. The music, while quite appropriate, was just a little bit on the loud side. Like most restaurants today there is very little to block noise, and so the acoustics for this strip mall location are not quite ideal, although the rest of the decor is very nice. For a fine dining experience, I could live without the two rather bright televisions above the bar, clearly visible in the dining areas. Perhaps the brightness could be set a little lower in the evening, so it would not be such a distraction. Again, just a few suggestions, but looking forward to our next visit. My last comment is actually directed at the guests. This is a nice restaurant. You should try to dress a bit nicely, nicer, when you come by out of respect for the restaurant, your fellow diners, your company, and yourselves. Enjoy your meal! . read more

I wanted to take the time to publicly thank La Rustica Italian, especially Jessica for the incredible job they did hosting my daughter's graduation party! Back in January and February I was working with a major Italian restaurant chain, in order to host the graduation party. After visiting the venue, on Valentines Day weekend, my daughter was all in, and I called to put down the deposit. When I called back that Monday, they told me that they were sold out, and we were so disappointed. I decided to give La Rustica a call, because we are big fans of their food and their restaurant. I had the pleasure of talking with Jessica, who told me that they were not hosting parties like that but were thinking about starting to host parties. I believe we were their first party that the restaurant hosted, and I can tell you that we are so extremely grateful to her and her team. She opened the restaurant for us and they went WAY ABOVE our wildest expectations, from the food to the servers, to decorations, to the menu that she made, this is truly a top notch dining experience!!! Everything was better than any five-star upscale restaurant could have done. We had 35 guests, and they are still raving about how good the food was and how great the service was. I am so glad that the well known chain said no to us. Oak Point, feel blessed that we have a local restaurant that loves our town! Do me a favor, if you have not been to La Rustica, go and try them. First time trying and I was impressed. Was able to walk in and sit at the bar on a busy Friday evening. The wine selection was good, maybe could use some more cocktail options, but the bartender was very helpful. Tried the meatballs and couple entrees and a cheesecake for dessert. I would have wished for some fresh grated Parmesan for my entree, but it was still yummy. I think they have made it past the first opening jitters and everyone has found their grove. We had noticed a new place opening up in our area and since had been anxiously waiting for it to open. To be completely honest, I was relieved it was an actual restaurant, a sit down, good food type of place and not another fast food. There's too many of those around and honestly, I'm not interested in more of that! The service was great, very attentive, friendly, and welcoming. The food was very tasty and clean, or at least felt that way. It didn't taste like the regular or typical italian food we're used to. Thank God! Our table ordered for starter: Steamed Mussles, and Calamari Fritti. The portion was more than I had expected. Our entrees were: the Ravioli de Mare, Chicken Picatta, and the Tuscan Salmon. The portions were sufficient; the dishes with pasta met the needed amount, the salmon was cooked well and it was the right portion. You just can't have a huge portion for certain proteins because of how filling they are when it "hits your stomach". The flavor was subtle but yet delicious. The seafood didn't taste "fishy" it was flavored well and it wasn't salty or too creamy, and most importantly, it was properly cooked. By the end of our meal, we were full but not uncomfortable. Last but not least, the atmosphere was warm, and welcoming. My first impression was this is a nice place. It is, I would say it's on the nicer end rather than too casual. It is certainly a great spot for "if you're in the mood for a good meal at a nice and welcoming place", and certainly date night, celebrating a graduate, or engagement, milestones, etc. The price is a bit higher than at the common chain italian restaurants, so it can be a bit pricy for some. However, there are choices on the menu that will work with any budget. This place is a must and it's one I hope to see and vist for many years to come. read more

This was our first visit to La Rustica and our table was ready when we arrived (reservations required) servers were attentive but not overbearing, drinks and entrees delicious and because we kicked off with the calamari there wasn't any room left for dessert but those sounded good, too. Absolutely LOVED our experience here! The food was delicious!!! I had the pollo penne and it's some of the best pasta I've ever had -- Perfect ratio of pasta to veggies! My husband got the gnocchi, which was cooked perfectly, and we each got a dessert (tiramisu was to die for!!!). Service was top notch and we never ran low on water or bread. Food took a little time to come out, but didn't bother us since the bread basket was full and drinks were flowing! And I love that they took their time and didn't rush us out of the restaurant; The way a good Italian meal should be! If you're looking for a quick bite, this isn't the place for you. I don't write many reviews unless I feel it's deserving of one. Well sad to say this place is deserving of 1 star. I cannot speak on the service as I ordered take out, but the chicken parm. Was by far the worst I've ever had. No flavor, chicken so thin, not even sure you can call it chicken. Tasted like rubber when I chewed it. I couldn't even finish the meal. The spaghetti that came with it, let's just say I would have been better off boiling noodles and pouring ketchup over the top. Needless to say I'm disappointed with the food. We've waited for sometime for this place to open. We were quite excited for what it proposed as a new rustic Italian restaurant. We had a quick seating and our waitstaff was friendly, polite, and did great. The wife and I started with a Caesar salad to split between us. It was great! We thought, "Yes! This was what we were hoping for." It went downhill sharply from there. The wife ordered the Penne Pollo. It was so bland. Mushrooms, artichokes, cream sauce...... and all you could taste was.....nothing. The salted sweet cream butter on the table for the bread had more flavor. I opted for the Chicken Parmesan. Of course, that's a safe call for any establishment, especially one that portrays itself as Italian. I should've sent it back, but I don't do that because we all know what happens then. Burned on the edges would be putting it lightly. The gravy was straight out of the can. And the spaghetti was just blah. The table bread absolutely needed that sweat cream butter. Hand shredded Parmesan cheese for the entrees added a touch of OG demureness. It was just so, well, plain. Nothing but the Caesar stuck out afterwards. The bill came and after tip, it's was a $100 that I'd like to have back. Sadly this didn't remotely satiate my craving for good Italian food. This place better find some flavor soon or it will be gone. I hope they do. read more

First off if you don't drink alcohol, I don't recommend this place. The only other option we were given for a beverage was water. Also, the food we both felt was overpriced for the quality.
