Our first time at Roma was a good one. The chicken piccata was very flavorful and had lots of capers (which I love). The chicken could've been pounded out a little thinner but that's just personal preference. The cheese ravioli were nice and cheesy. They were still sizzling when they got to the table. The dinner rolls were soft and served with butter. The Caesar dressing wasn't my favorite, next time I'll try the house dressing for sure. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable. There was not a large crowd but probably because we came for an early dinner on a Thursday evening. P.S. it's BYOB so don't forget to bring your favorite wine!

Lunch portion- spaghetti and meatball. EXCELLENT!

We heard a ton of great things about Romas so we finally stopped in for lunch. IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! The salad was great!! House dressing was perfect!! My friend got the spaghetti and meatballs and he loved it! (So much that I never got a bite. JERK). I got the trio and it was great! My husband got the same but swapped out the spinach ravioli for cheese. He loved his just as much! When comparing the prices of Romas to other Italian places nearby, Roma's wins HANDS DOWN! Great prices and great food!! All in all, it was a great place!! We will definitely be back again!

This newly opened Italian restaurant is a bit out of the way but should be a good addition to the area and a good replacement for the Mexican restaurant that occupied the space before. My wife and I decided to celebrate her birthday by going out to discover new places, as we have just moved to the Northern Suburbs of Dallas. As we pulled in for our 6:00 reservation (I called to verify BYOB due to others' comments and we were told that we were the first being allowed to make a reservation) this past Saturday night, it seemed like a convoy of cars was following up into the parking lot. From the parking lot, one other guest asked me "Is it still BYOB?" I told him that that was what I was told. Entering the front door, the reception area had a couple of customers there picking up takeout. One server asked me how many and we said two, but we had a reservation. Another server came to us and said "Yes. I know who you are. Your table is over there with 2 menus." We walked over to the lovely table in the window, with a view of the I-35 retainer wall. Faux white tablecloths, a lovely glass bowl decorative arrangement, 2 bread plates, each with a rolled red napkin on top. One server came to us and asked if they could bring us something to drink. We brought our own wine and requested water with lemon. As the bottle was being opened, the server asked if we would like to start with an appetizer. We ordered the calamari and were served a basket of homemade dinner rolls. When the calamari was served, we were both sadly disappointed. I am not sure if there was some serious mistake, but this was the very worst calamari I have ever had ever attempted to eat. Each ring was crunchy from the inside. All the moisture had been cooked out of each piece. The breading on each piece was way too thick and crunchy. The plate was accompanied by a lemon half and a nice red sauce. Anytime I go to a new restaurant, it is the calamari that I start my judgment to expect what the rest of the meal will be like. I was now asking myself if I had made a huge mistake bringing my wife there for her birthday. We ordered eggplant parm 2 Caesar salads and shrimp scampi, both entrees would be shared at the table (see pictures below). When the eggplant arrived, we served each other and were very happy. The three very thick medium-sized medallions were properly battered with bread crumbs and baked perfectly, topped with mozzarella cheese, which was all served on a bed of spaghetti with a delightful red sauce that had perfectly cooked pits of tomato, filling the sauce with a wonderful richness. A server assistant who spoke no English motioned to us if we would like to take the third median and the rest of the past home with us. She brought us a standard styrofoam entree-sized box. When our salads arrived, the dressing was an industrial brand that had a sweetness to it that hid any flavoring of anchovies, had any been added at all. The croutons were industrial packaged as well. And the romaine lettuce was bright green, yet wilted by being out too long. Score 0 for the salad course. When the scampi arrived (5 jumbo shrimp, served with a pink sauce on a bed of linguini), again we served each other and found the "scampi" flavorful, although not tasting like any scampi I had ever experienced. Our server then came to us and told us that we should choose any one dessert item on the menu. We chose the limoncello cake. When presented, there was an artistic drizzle of caramel sauce (bottled?) and a small slice of the cake with a birthday candle on top. Lovely. The cake was memorable, yet again I question if it came out of a box from Sysco. We saw a couple of tables eating pizza, we saw families with small WELL BEHAVED children and by 8:00 pm most of the diners had finished and were leaving. The half-owner, our server, told us that she also had an auto repair shop and acclaimed that the restaurant business was the hardest business in the world. After having opened 33 myself, and most of those requiring 75-85 hours a week, I agreed. Now, I am one who is 95% of the time pulling for the unique, one-of-a-kind eatery and I truly hope this "Lady and the Tramp" Italian bistro makes it. Our total bill was $59 and I left a 25% tip for all of the specialized attention we received. Our server also introduced her daughter, telling us that her cousin was the other half-owner. As you can see, I only gave a 3 star rating, but if I was in the mood for another BYOB, Lady and the Tramps Italian dinner, I wouldn't mind revisiting to see if they had found ways to tweak the operation. But do not order the calamari.

We have been hearing about this place and we're so glad to do a quick meet up with friend for dinner. The food here is top notch h and it's BYOB which I happen to love because I don't prefer Italian wine. Beautiful rolls come to your table. We had the calamari which was crispy and very fresh. All of the entrees were very well seasoned and served piping hot. They have some different selections here too and do not miss the lemoncella cake. Take a slice home to mamma. She'll love it. Super clean and a great addition to Hickory Creek. Molto bene!

But, we wanted to find out what it was like for ourselves, so we decided to pay them a visit for a birthday dinner. The dining area is open and large enough to accommodate lots of diners, although on a weekday evening we practically had the whole place to ourselves. Speaking of being a weekday evening, cocktails were half price for happy hour, which meant the first order of business was getting a margarita. Now it may not have been the best one I've ever had, but it certainly was one of the strongest! I definitely got my money's worth there. They have a $25 appetizer and entree combo that seemed like a good deal as well, so I decided to go that route. I chose hush puppies and jambalaya from a list of about half a dozen dishes. The hush puppies were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and all around tasty. The jambalaya was hearty and well seasoned. I don't think I have ever had one with as much shrimp, sausage and chicken either. Again, it was well worth the price. One of my friends, who also went with the combo, got the house salad as an appetizer and it was big enough to be a meal in itself. In fact, everyone was impressed with the size of their meals. We were equally impressed with the quality and flavor. My youngest son is notoriously picky, and even he loved the food. Our server was as sweet as she could be. She actually didn't know we were there to celebrate a birthday, so I can only assume that she's always that nice. It was such a great experience overall that we are already looking forward to returning and trying more of their dishes.

Unfortunately, the service was questionable. Our server had difficulty communicating in English, which led to a costly misunderstanding. When we ordered crab, she never asked what type of crab we wanted and instead assumed king crab, which is significantly more expensive than other options. As a result, our bill was much higher than expected. To make matters worse, a 20% gratuity was automatically added to the bill without it being mentioned to us beforehand. While restaurants may choose to add gratuity in certain situations, customers should be clearly informed so there are no surprises. My advice: enjoy the food, but be very specific when ordering. Confirm exactly what type of crab you're getting, verify the pricing, and check your bill carefully. Also remember that gratuity should be clearly communicated and not assumed. Better communication would have made this a much better overall experience.I'd rate it 2.5 out of 5 stars. Great food, but the service and communication issues took away from the experience.

The problem we had wasn't necessarily with the service, although it was quite slow considering that there weren't very many other tables occupied. The main problem was with the quality of the food and drinks. I thought the gator kickers were good, and the Cajun fries were hot and crispy, so things started well, but it went south with our first round of drinks. Two people ordered beer - 1 draft beer and 1 longneck, and both tasted terribly skunky. We sent those back and just switched to water. When our food arrived, everything was hot and presented well ... until I noticed that several crawfish tails in my etoufee were dark gray. Im not talking about a vein running through it, but the full tail looked like a rotted toe. I had eaten several bites of it and it was seasoned well, but I stopped when I noticed the first dark gray tail. I looked through and saw a couple other gray ones and stopped eating. The icing on the cake was when the waitress took the 3/4 full beers away and bumped the table with the water pitcher, pouring water on the table, the seat next to me and down my leg, soaking my shorts and sock. Accidents happen, I get it, but she didn't apologize, offer me a towel or anything. We had to waive her down after not seeing her for almost 15 minutes just to get our check, so I guess the service wasn't very good either. This was our first time visiting, and we won't be back. I give 2 stars instead of 1 just because I liked the gator kickers.
