Hadn't heard of this place so I decided to try it out. The staff is super friendly, and pretty quick getting orders out. Having read the menu, I already knew before ordering that the California Burrito here isn't like the california burrito with fries that most places have, but it's not bad. Because of the mask muffling of words, I misheard the cashier and apparently asked for extra meat but I guess that's better than accidentally getting less food so it's fine, and if anything it was my fault for not checking my receipt. They have plenty of other things on the menu that I'm interested in trying so I'll most likely go back. They also do catering if you ever find yourself in need. read more

Very quick and delicious "counter" to grab Mexican food during the day. I first started going to La Salsa at their Studio City location during an internship in the early 2000s and fell in love with the fair prices and good food. I was so sad when it closed and haven't been in years and years until I found this location. For me, it's often easy to "forget" about this location because I can't really order ahead on a food app for convenience -- yes, you have to trudge in and wait like everyone else. But! my "Gourmet" Chicken Burrito was worth the wait and under $10, so by DTLA standards it's a deal! I'm pleased to see that they still include a small side bag of chips. Ok ok - I usually get my food from the west LA store. I always get the same thing, the chicken taquitos. Yesterday I ordered and I swear to you I have never had them made so poorly. I've been ordering that for 4 years. I was shocked that they tasted so bad. It tasted old and way over cooked. It also smelled really odd and burnt. Everything was so dry and just not edible. Very average food. Not sure where they get their chicken from - tastes like rubber. Got a fajitas plate today. Rice was clumpy, meat had an unpleasant grayish tint to it, chicken was rubbery, peppers were not fully cooked, and guac did not taste like guac. Chips are usually freshly fried and tasty. read more

Just tried the breakfast burrito with chorizo. I heard it was delicious. Let me start by saying that I love breakfast burritos! So for $5, you get a very decent size burrito filled with egg, cheese, chorizo. I ate about half when I realized the other half was very oily and the bread was getting soggy. I ended up just eating the filling. I think there's too much chorizo that makes it oily, not sure. Flavor was not bad, but the oil threw me off. I did try all the salsas, which were very fresh and clean. Each tasted good in their own way. I might return and maybe split the burrito with less chorizo! read more

If I could give less than 1 star, I would. I feel sick to my stomach right now. I ordered the Baja Fish Tacos for lunch. As soon as I opened the taco, it was overfilled with cheese and I noticed the fish was not battered / fried, it was grilled. It also smelled really fishy and when I took a bite the fish did not taste fresh. I went back to the restaurant because I thought I had the wrong order. I thought they accidentally gave me grilled fish and maybe that's what it was supposed to taste like? I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. Anyway, the person at the register explained that I did get what I ordered - their "Baja" tacos have grilled fish. Then that is NOT a Baja style taco, my La Salsa friends. Please adjust your menu accordingly as that is an affront to Baja Fish Tacos. Regardless, if I did indeed get what I ordered, you need to know if and when your fish has gone bad. I was able to choke down one taco, but as soon as I tried to eat the other taco I began feeling sick. I ate two hours ago and I'm feeling really nauseous. I'm pretty sure I have food poisoning. Here's a tip: If a customer comes in complaining that the fish doesn't taste right, even if it is what they ordered, you should offer them a refund - at the VERY least, and have your staff inspect the fish. I got their shrimp tacos and was entirely unimpressed. The shrimp were not seasoned very well. I usually opt for the Mexico taco plate with 3 of these bad boys plus rice and beans. The carne and polle are pretty hard and chewy from my many experiences. The fish and shrimp aren't as flavorful. I have eaten at several La Salsas before and the food is OK. Good for what it is but I actually prefer Una Mas and Baja Fresh. However, I felt the need to note that the service here was great. I was in LA for a convention and needed to eat something fast. La Salsa was right across the street and not only did the lines move quickly (right at peak lunchtime) and the food come up super fast - the manager was walking around asking people if they needed any more chips and salsa, drink refills and taking empty trays. Three words: Happy. Hour. Tacos. I'm only basing this review on their happy hour tacos because I haven't tried many of the other options. BUT! From 3-5pm, you can get their carne asada tacos (usually for like $3) for only $1 with free chips! Ok Ok I know we are in Los Angeles and you can probably find a million taco trucks with $1 tacos. However, their carne asada tacos are actually pretty good. They come with steak, onion, cilantro, and guacamole. Then, you go to their salsa bar.. which has everything. They have like 8 different sauces, pico de gallo, chopped peppers, more onions/cilantro, carrots/jalapenos, and surprisingly good fruit sauce (usually mango or rasberry). Since I've always been in LA, I am spoiled and usually only want the most genuine Mexican food around but for a chain restaurant, this is definitely on the better side. I approve! Went here on a quick lunch break, and I was excited for some good Mexican food. The smell was pretty enticing, but sadly the good memories stopped there. I LOVE this restaurant! And their service is amazing!! The food is well portioned for their prices and give you the nostalgic feeling of your youth...if you grew up in a Hispanic/Latin/Mexican home..or your vacation spot in Mexico. They start you off with your choice of drinks and serve you an appetizer of their signature "Chipotle retried beans" and chips...Deeelicious! I have not found another restaurant that make the "Green Chilaquiles" as delicious as they cook them here. I will travel to get my Green chilaquiles fix! There are long lines during lunch but it moves fairly quickly. It's actually GOOD service. Unusual for a fast-food chain. You could also fax in or call in your order and have it ready for pick up by the time you get there. La Salsa is probably my favorite fast food "Mexican." I put that in quotes because I could probably walk a few blocks for "real Mexican" food but since it's across the street from my office, this is pretty good to me. Besides, it's service, a burrito (or taco salad) with a smile. I like the shrimp stuff though their chicken isn't bad. Pricing wise, it's a little expensive but probably cheaper than my usual $9-11 meal at Cafe Prezzo next door. I can also get all the salsa I want from their bar which is constantly refilled and kept clean. I guess I went in with too much expectations but overall the dishes were reasonably okay. I had their Baja Fish Bowl and the shrimp taco. I don't really have much to say about this, it was simply okay. It can be improved upon and I expected employees to be friendly but they were not. I will not be returning. Gotta confess, I love this chain. The fish burrito rocks! So does the shrimp chipotle salad... They're generous with both the shrimp and avocado, both of which I LOVE!! I currently go to the La Salsa on Grand Ave downtown. This place used to be one of my favorite places to go, but it seems like every time I go the service gets worse and worse. Food takes long to be prepared, but it is good. Not the best, but good. I enjoy the burrito ranchero very much. However this place loses 2 stars due to the bad service. Seems like they are always short handed, as the tables are often very dirty. The salsa station is very messy and they are mostly out of forks or napkins. The staff is also a bit on the mean side. I didn't feel welcomed at all, almost like I was a burden to them.
