    Corn in a Cup

My thought process was that Mexican food would be better Texas right? Since it's so close to the border? I was wrong and slightly disappointed by this place. It's a small food truck on Rainey Street and at first glance it looks authentic enough that it pulls you. Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? The service was fine. It was easy to order and are fairly quick on making your food depending on wether or not there is a line. There wasn't when I went so it was quick. Star 2: How were the portions and quality relative to the price? Portions were decent, and pricing seems fair. It's comparable to what the other food trucks (some that also sell tacos) within feet away we're selling. Star 3 and 4: How was the food? The food was slightly below average that it's hard to grant even 2 stars in this category. I ordered the elote which I was so excited about. Upon receiving it I was left disappointed however. It's almost like they could've made something great but didn't put enough effort into it? There was a tiny bit of Mayo and a tiny bit of spices that by the time you get to the second bite you're left with a cup of plain, lukewarm corn. The tacos were similar. They just lacked a little something extra (spice? toppings?) to really make this a memorable meal. Star 5: Would I be excited to visit again? Unfortunately, I would not be excited to visit again. Since it's located among so many other food trucks they really need to step up their game if they want to compete!

Tacos and quesadillas, what else could you want? Quick and easy to order street food. I went with the bistek encebollardo quesadilla. For the price it was very filling and well worth it. I was beyond pleased with the service and how quick the food came out. The staff was great to be around. I will definitely eat here again the next time I'm out on Rainy Street.

Fish tacos & corn in a cup (!)

OMG, that was damn delicious!! I just had the fish tacos and the corn in a cup. My wife had the carnitas. Both were seriously full of flavor, and the corn in a cup... the name doesn't do it justice. It's bursting with flavor. I know this sounds over the top. I don't generally tend to hyperbole, but this meal was really satisfying.

I was a fan of the fantabulous trailer and sad to see it go but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this is the parent truck. Located in the food trailer park on the south end of Rainey st, This truck's menu is a little bit larger than the former fantabulous trailer but the quality has diminished slightly and the prices seem higher. Not a good combination. A decent Austin street taco can be found here though it still pales in comparison to those found on the west coast and even Austin as a whole. (Still on the hunt for the best street taco in Austin) The service was fast and friendly. This place is worth a go but you can definitely find better tacos elsewhere.

I tried this place out yesterday and had a good first experience. I went around 9pm and the line wasn't too long. I ordered the Camaron (shrimp) tacos and I thought it was pretty good. I didn't have to wait more than 15 mins for my food.

Gordough's is one of those places that fully commits to indulgence. I was able to place my order online and schedule for pick up. The order was ready when I arrived. Parking was a bit challenging and the lot was full and they charge for parking. Service was quick, casual, just good energy and fast turnaround. I ordered my tried and true Miss Shortcake with their famous cake donut with cream cheese icing and fresh cut strawberries. The donut is so indulgent and was served warm with the most delectable flavor combinations. Tried the Son of a Peach with cream cheese icing, spiced peach filling, cake mix topping, cinnamon and sugar with honey butter. This one was a bit too overindulgent and sweet for my liking but was definitely worth a try. Portions are huge and can be shared as the donut is not as good warmed over. If you're in the mood for dessert and not think about calorie count, then this is the place.

I had the Migas taco and the La Reyna taco. Both were excellent. I loved the veggies combination on the La Reyna taco. I would want to stop in and eat these every week if I lived in Austin. And the hot sauce was on point, both the green and the red. My husband had the Grilled Fish taco and the Grilled Steak taco. He couldn't decide which he liked better, but mentioned that the steak itself had amazing flavor. Do yourself a favor: free up two hours on your day off; order some tacos; order a Desnudo coffee or matcha or hibiscus tea and enjoy the tree-shaded outdoor dining area while you wait for some truly outstanding tacos.

From speaking with Tony Jr. today, they also have a restaurant in Pflugerville. I ordered jerk chicken, which fell off the bones and came with cabbage, rice and peas and plantain. I have traveled to Jamaica a couple of times, this Jamaican food was the real deal. The jerk chicken was a bit spicey but not set your tongue on fire spicey. The rice and peas along with the cabbage was perfectly seasoned. The standout for me was the sweet plantain, spoken like a plantain connoisseur. The plantain was sweet on the inside and slightly charred on the outside...perfect combination. The only improvement would have been for me to get a side of plantain. My food was delivered fast and hot. Tony Jr. was super personable and friendly. There is seating in the center of the food truck park. You hear tunes being played in the background. The food truck park is at the core of East Austin in a semi-residential area. Street parking is available for diners. I look forward to trying curry goat and oxtails and more.
