Went to Sweet Basil last Monday for a group lunch. We were a group of 17 women I think. We didn't have a special menu for this lunch, we were all able to order off the regular menu and we all got separate checks which included an auto gratuity of 20% which for me was absolutely appropriate. Our server was a waitress named Stephanie. She also was the only one serving us which was quite an accomplishment if you ask me! Drinks and bread and butter came to the table pretty quickly so that was nice. The pasta dishes came with a salad so that was nice. So I ordered my salad with dressing on the side extra dressing please. Salad dressing came on the side but no extra dressing. Not a big problem for me. I ordered the pasta Messina and on the menu it didn't come with mushrooms, but it came out that way. Some mushrooms don't agree with me, so I had to send it back. They remade my meal very quickly. I only had water with lemon to drink and our waitress kept the refills going. Now they serve soft drinks but they come in a can and I'm not a fan of that. We returned here with friends on Sunday evening and we had another outstanding meal. This time we stuck with the crab claws, calamari and bruschetta for appetizers. I was disappointed that they no longer had the shrimp bruschetta but the other was very nice and tasty. A little on the salty side for me. I probably would not order the calamari again but those crab claws are out of this world good and I again had to dip everything in that sauce! I ordered the eggplant parmesan as an entree and it was so cheesy and delicous. My husband ordered the halibut with the champagne cream sauce that was accompanied by angel hair pasta and squash. The veggies were so tasty and buttery and the halibut had an amazing flavor. The service here feels like you are with family and I still appreciate how quiet the restaurant is but we are always the early bird diners. I cannot speak to what the sound levels is when it is busy. My wife and I picked up her new car (birthday present) and I decided to take her to SB and they did not dissapoint. We had the fresh mussels for starters and the sauce was excellent. Our server recommended the Chef Special of Grilled Chicken Breast with angel hair pasta and my wife enjoyed the dish. I ordered the bolognese pasta and the gravy was delicious. I have been wanting to try sweet basil for years but just got around to it. We went for my dad's bday & had a nice time. When you walk in, it's a little disorienting. I felt like we walked in the wrong door but someone was with us quickly & sat us. They filled our water glasses, gave us menus & warm bread. The service was the perfect pace. We didn't feel rushed, but always had what we needed. There weren't many people there so it was a little to quiet. It felt like a library & that's the only reason I took one star away. On the plus side, if you want to go somewhere relaxing & not to loud, it's a great place to The food was great! A friend recommended their Caesar salad & chicken Parmesan . My husband had carbonara & LOVED it. My mom enjoyed her eggplant Parmesan & dad had the chicken pasta special. We all loved our food. My wife and I have been coming here for years. When Mike passed, we were very sad. The food was always consistently good. When the new owners took over, we were hopeful things would not change much. Well, things did change and for the better. From the new decor to the elevated recipes, the experience was great. My wife had the Chicken Milanese and I had the Chicken Parmigiana. I've eaten here years ago and totally different. Very insulted with the dessert menu that's had grease spots and just nasty. I ate here two nights ago and same situation with the menu but I gave him a 20% tip so tonight it would be no tip. Maybe he'll get the message. But then. Again, he probably doesn't remember he waited on me. They do have nice laminated dessert, menus that I was not offered. I gave him a good tip for the poor service. I have seen this place for at least 25 years and never stopped. Last night my son and I stopped for a great Italian meal. The bread was crusty and warm. My lemon sole was perfect. Loved the crunchy garlic in the lemon butter pasta. The lasagna was big and wonderful flavors. This was such a surprise and treat! A wonderful neighborhood restaurant to visit. My wife and I have eaten here for 25 years. I proposed to her here. That's how much we loved the place. We come back a few times a year as it is quite a drive for us now. We ate here tonight and were sad to hear about the passing of Mike. He remembered us every time we came and I don't think we ever paid for a desert! The new owners are ruining this place. We both ordered our favorite dish, the Chicken Sweet Basil. What used to be a wonderful, grilled, creamy dish is now a boiled, soupy mess. Why would you change your signature dish? We are not happy with the change. We informed our waiter, who told the manager but she never came to see us. The chicken practically melted in my mouth, the portion sizes were equitable and the distribution of sauce had to be science because I did not have too much nor too little of it. The Sofia Loren was an offering of exquisitely balanced ingredients and has now become my favorite salad. The service was like clockwork - my water glass was never empty; arrival of dishes and drinks was timely (confirming confidence that all of my plates were freshly prepared in the back). Yum!!! Love this cute little gem of a spot. The service is amazing...rare to find elsewhere, especially at this price point. Very authentic and tasty! At first we thought the sauce was a little too runny but the flavor was so good and it worked out with the meal. We got the salads, fries gnocchi, penne with meat sauce, and eggplant parmigiana. On the recommendation of my Italian friend who is a regular here. I came here and got what she recommended which was the lobster bisque and carbonara with angel hair, both wet outstanding! Hot and fresh. The pepper grinder could be a little finer. I also splurged and had the eggplant and zucchini friti it comes with a delicious red sauce. I took off a star due to the fact I was presented the check before dessert was offered. Minor but a peeve of mine, as I know dessert is a nice way to bring up the price point of a meal, especially when home owned. I will be back! We used to eat here a lot before my wife and I got married and she moved in with me. She lived close by and it was convenient and the food is good. I don't think we ever had anything bad. They always treat you well and it feels like a mom and pop restaurant (it might actually be). We went back recently and it hadn't changed much, even with COVID protocols in place. I want to say I got the Chicken Parm and I ate the whole thing so it's clear that it was delicious. If you can't make a good Chicken Parm, can you really call yourself an Italian Restaurant? When I say I've been coming here for years I've been coming here for 30 years, and I've known both owners, currently Mike! Everything you can eat here is very well prepared and Mike puts his very best in to everything he serves! This place is right across the road from us and we pass it often. Decided one day to try it out and it was a lovely experience. We both got the dinner special which came with soup or salad, an entree and dessert. I had Cream of Mushroom soup, the Chicken Portobello and Key Lime Pie while my boyfriend had the Caesar salad, lasagna and cheese cake. Everything was delicious and the service by David was the best! Used to live in Carrollton and always wanted to eat here. A friend had her birthday dinner here and finally I was able to try this place. They have a private dinning area which worked great for us. We were able to act a little crazy without disturbing others, Good set up and it worked well. I came a little later to the group and ordered. I stated with lobster bisque which almost came out immediately. It was meaty and tasty but I def had better. it was only "OK" After getting recommendations from the staff about the Tuscan dish. I ordered it. It literally came out in 5 minutes. Weird. It's penne pasta with Italian sausage, spinach and beans? Hey if two guys that worked here says it's good, it had to be. Wrong. It lacked that full flavor most Italian dishes have. The sausage was burnt on some sides and it all was sitting in a puddle of oil. I wasn't impressed with my friends entree either which also came out in record time. It was decent but the cream sauce was runny and it was kinda bland. No one was ever offered Parmesan cheese for their entrees or cracked black pepper. Hmmm.....who'd cooking back there?? ***Mind you the staff was on their toes and did well, keeping our drinks full and catering to our needs and providing fresh, hot bread...but this place is lacking something. The other thing that caught my eye, was when the server was serving the birthday cake. He would cut with one hand and catch the sliced with his BARE hands and put it on the plate. Not cool. Sweet Basil, I am extremely disappointed in you. I think Olive Garden could outshine you. I think you need to hire a new cook and retrain staff on cross-contamination. Sorry if I am being harsh. Food was a good value. Went for lunch but had very low expectations, which the restaurant met. We were served bread and butter and a bowl of Parmesan cheese. Bread was a sliced Italian bread that you would buy at any grocery store. No oil or balsamic vinegar to dip it in. Just the bread and butter. Which is very strange for an Italian restaurant. My husband had the lobster bisque which was good. Not amazing but for 2.50 we didn't have high expectations. Then he had the lasagna lunch special. It was tasteless and rubbery. It would have tasted better if it was a frozen lasagna dinner that was warmed up. I had the penne alla arrabiatta. The pasta was undercooked yet pieces were burned. It seemed as though they put the pasta in with the wine sauce at the end to join them and pieces of the pasta were burnt on the bottom of the pan. Oh my! I can't believe I had forgotten about this place. We were looking on Yelp for a place to order Italian nearby and Sweet Basil came up so we gave them a call. One of the reviews I read suggested Chicken Jerusalem. It did NOT disappoint! It was outstanding. Everything was delicious! Husband picked up the order and we ate at home so I can't comment on anything related to dining in, but the food was the best!!! We will definitely order again and dine in soon. read more

Absolutely amazing food! Glasses never even made it to halfway empty before the waiter came to refill. Servings were more than enough to fill you up and leave you with plenty for leftovers. We were craving Italian last night and stopped by this place. The owner/manager seated us and was very polite. Unfortunately the waiter was not so polite. I guess he didn't like us ordering water for our drink. Come on, it's 106 degrees and water sounded good. Anyway he got grumpy. Next he brought us a plate of bread. It looked like someone had stepped on it. Glancing around, none of the other tables had smashed bread so my husband nicely requested another loaf. The waiter said that is normal and just gets smashed when they slice it. Wow! They need a sharper knife! Ultimately he took the smashed loaf back to the kitchen. He later returned with another loaf which he tossed onto the table and continued walking. Enough was enough. It didn't seem like things would get any better so we walked out. read more

Salty and not flavored at all. Secondly, we asked for penne but instead we got angel hair even though we asked if they could substitute and they said yes! Secondly, on their website, it's written - soup or salad with entree! Instead they charged me for few lettuce leaves and store made salad dressing! If I knew or someone told me on the phone, I would have declined it! And the worst is dishonesty! They say all meals come with bread and butter. The man lied to our faces! Was there bread? Always amazing food- we as a family always come here for Christmas Eve dinner but tonight we had a birthday and got it to go. Just as delicious as being in the restaurant; even after it took us some time to all get seated and ready to eat! The salads were large, as were the portions of everyone's meals and they even thought to wrap up their butter in foil and gave us plenty!! I actually look forward to sitting at this restaurant with their bread and butter and Cesar Salad before my meal and I was so excited to have that for our at-home birthday dinner!
