Polite staff, and yummy food. I ordered the lasagna. It came out piping hot. If you like yours super cheesy this is not for you.

Old-school red sauce Italian places are becoming as rare as finding a parking spot downtown, but this place? This place is a gem. Sadly, it was almost empty for lunch on a Thursday (what gives, people?!). I had scoped out the menu while driving by one day and spotted something that immediately caught my East Coast heart: a veal parm sub. Or as we call it back home, a "grinder." Now, I haven't seen a veal parm sub on a menu in 15 years, so naturally, I bookmarked it for lunch the following week like it was a national holiday. We walked in around 12:45, and there was only one other table occupied--perfect for people who enjoy elbow room with their marinara. We were seated right away and ordered the Caesar salad and, of course, the veal parm sub to split. Our waitress/hostess (multi-talented!) brought over warm bread and butter, which I tried so hard to resist, knowing what was coming next. The Caesar salad? It had that perfect homemade dressing with a nice anchovy kick, and the lettuce was crisp enough to hold its own. For $9, it was a huge portion, and honestly, if you threw some chicken on there, it'd make a great lunch all on its own. BUT let me tell you about that veal parm sandwich--it took me right back to my childhood outside of Boston. The veal was crispy, slightly chewy, and the mozzarella? It was practically cascading out of the soft roll in glorious cheese waterfalls. I'm telling you, it'll be hard to order anything else after that sandwich. Although, the Italian beef and eggplant grinders are also calling my name. This place isn't fancy, and that's exactly what makes it so special. I bet their nightly pasta dishes are top-notch too. So do yourself a favor--grab a grinder, forget your fancy pretensions, and just enjoy the old-school goodness.

I don't recommend Joe's if you're going to take your kids- is NOT kids-friendly! Saturday evening around 5:30pm we went to eat we were 3 adults and 2 kiddos (age 7 and 8) they were laughing and the owner was upset. Obviously as mom we tried to explain them to keep it low. After eating maybe 40 minutes they turn our lights off so we understood it was time to ask for the check.

I had an amazing experience here. I felt like I was eating at home. We had a wonderful woman serving our larger ground and I have nothing but praises. I ordered the chicken Parmesan and it was everything I could've wanted. This place definitely deserves more business than it gets.

Nice family owned place. Most dinners under $20, and portions were generous. Would definitely go back. Try the mini cannoli's!

My boyfriend had the Siciliana with Alfredo pasta, and it was perfectly seasoned and very tasty. We also enjoyed a dirty martini to start (perfectly made), and ended up having a few bottles of wine their wine selection is extensive, and you can tell they really know what they're offering. One thing we loved was that the owners personally go table to table to check on guests. That personal touch really makes a difference. Overall, such a great experience. My friend ordered the same combo but paired hers with the Brussels sprout salad and had her panini on focaccia bread with tuna. That combo sounded right up my ally. We were seated right next to the window view kitchen, which is always fun to watch the kitchen do their thing. Our server was great and kept those fresh glasses of crispy Diet Coke coming nonstop, which I appreciated. We decided to split two things, the brisket specialty pizza and a pasta called strozzapreti with chicken and pine nuts, plus about three mushrooms and four pieces of spinach in a creamy sauce that definitely leaned into the over-indulgent side. I really wanted to love this place, but it landed a little off the mark for me. The pizza threw me at first because the BBQ sauce was honey mustard instead of classic red BBQ. My brain was expecting one thing and got another. Once I adjusted expectations, I liked it more, but that first impression stuck. The pasta looked beautiful but was very one note. It was rich, creamy, and heavy, but not in a way that made it worth it. If I am going all in on a cream based pasta, I want it to be ridiculously good and worth every single calorie. This one just did not quite get there. I will admit my expectations might be part of the problem. After spending 10 years in NYC and 30 years in the Bay Area, my bar for Italian food is pretty high. This just did not quite live up to what I was hoping for.
