La Taberna is one of the few goto spots for me in Napa. I started going here for Tapas and Vino Verde nearly two decades ago and I have never been disappointed. Amazing food and drink. Chill spot. Terrific staff. Everything you need. We always order the crispy pig ears, papatas bravas, and boquerones. They also feature a fresh fish of the week and this week it was trout. Amazing. The place will transform in the new year moving into a spot adjacent to its neighbor restaurant ZuZu which is also A+. I came here with one of my best friends for a girls trip last month and just want to say how great this restaurant is. We were one of the first ones inside around opening so we sat at the window & service was pretty quick. We ordered a yummy cheese board which came with jams and toasts to pair along with sangrias (which were not on the menu at this time to my knowledge) because why wouldn't you try the cheeses in Napa? We also ordered the Argus Chile Ceviche dish which wasn't bad but was so incredibly tiny, I was surprised it was still classified as a tapas dish as opposed to an appetizer. We were also surprised to see that this was served warm aside from cold that we were expecting from a ceviche dish. We also ordered patatas bravas which tasted amazing with the aioli and it's pretty hard to mess up potatoes which are so yummy already. We finished our tapas with two empanadas each - the beef (chimichurri) for my friend & mushroom for myself. This was some of the best flaky empanada pastry I've ever had. We finished our meal off with the Basque Cake which we got because my friend and I are are gluten intolerant and it's made with almond flour. This was just a bit dry but still decent though I don't think I would get this again. Really cute gem of a place! I absolutely loved my tapas experience here. EVERYTHING we ordered was fantastic. Some menu items I would absolutely recommend are: the patatas bravas, the salad, ceviche, their seasonal fish specials (we had the cod - it was fantastic)... even the crispy pig ears (I know it sounds weird) were AMAZING. I highly recommend this spot. Tapas are so much fun to be able to try a little bit of everything. The portions are small but that is the point, a little bit of everything! Incredible. What an amazing tapas restaurant on the strip. This place is dark and dim with great music, medium soft voice levels, quick service and freshly made dishes from scratch. We ordered a lot here which is the only way to do it at a Tapas joint. We started off with sardine platter with crunchy toast and peppers. This starter was a great kick off. The tomato sauce and olives provided great taste with the Portuguese sardines. The flounder ceviche was fresh; chunky bits of flounder and cilantro lime sauce! The pig ears were crispy and had a nice spicy oil to it. The pork belly was sweet and savory; it was rich and had a nice glaze to it for texture. The oxtail empanada was just ok but the sweet cheesy-honey empanada was definitely the winner! I looove this item so much I can order 3 orders just for myself. I want it again! Their cocktail selection is unique but you might want to go for something strong and more of a tequila based cocktail. I love this spot and is such a huge hit! Came by here while waiting to grab dinner at Zuzu's (La Taberna's sister store). Zuzu's gives you a poker card to lay out on your table so they can come find you once your table is ready. Really nice :) The bartenders here are friendly and attentive. Food comes out relatively quickly. The menu has many interesting dishes -- I wanted to also try the lamb paté, but guess that'll be next to try when I'm back in the area. Saison Du Pont || $13 Smooth and lightly hoppy at the end. I wish La Taberna had a liquor license, because they have some incredible vermouths that will redefine what your palette thinks of vermouth, and they'd be fantastic in a martini. The downside, you'll go back home and pour out that junk vermouth that's been sitting in your home bar. Besides the vermouths, they have some excellent beers that aren't particularly common. I personally enjoyed the beers and vermouths because I'm not a wine drinker. Last but not least, one of their servers Gregory is not only super friendly and helpful, but he's a coffee fanatic and I think their espresso machine could be an extension of his own arms. He knows how to make all kinds of delicious espresso-based drinks, which were perfect for an afternoon kick on our long day of bar/restaurant hopping. read more

Mushroom was solid too but I think it had chevre cheese which I don't like. Cute and cozy tapas place. They have about four tables that fits up to 5 people each and about 10-15 seats around the bar. The place is small, so when you first get there, you have an option to stand and eat or wait for a table. We arrived around 7:30 pm on a Saturday night. It was packed as expected and the waiter guided us to a standing area in the back. We ordered a couple of drinks and a table became available after about 10-15 minutes. There were a lot of good looking options on the menu but we settled for the lamb tartare, creamy and delish on the butter toast; patatas bravas, potatoes with a tomato/calabrian chili puree and yogurt sauce (the sauce was really good); scallop ceviche with lime butter, light, sliced thin, with just the right hint of salt; crispy pork belly with piquillo glaze, the glaze was more like a sweet teriyaki bbq sauce, I didn't care too much for it but my friend like it. I thought the sauce was too thick and sweet and they were also not crispy. Crispy pig ears, now these were crispy. In fact, they were crispy the next day. I think this was my favorite dish but would like it even more without the vinaigrette taste. Seafood fideo, I thought it was really delicious but my friend didn't care for it. Just remember to mix it up before you eat it. Tetilla cheese, not my style but my friend said it was bomb! So, as you can see, it all depends on your taste buds and I'm sure everyone can find something to suite their taste buds. The ambience is trendy and the noise level was average. Their pork belly was seared well but was smothered in sauce that was too sweet and reminded me of Kim Chi. The oysters were also fresh and good. The only thing we really disliked was the olive wrapped in anchovies- thought it was suppose to be grilled to take away some of the fishy taste but it was way too fishy. We opted for outdoor seating on a high top counter. The weather was great and it looks they have a great view as well in the daylight. The service was phenomenal our waitress was fantastic. When our waitress corrected our (correct) pronunciation of empanada*, I was afraid. But it wasn't bad, on the cusp of traditional and fusion. Austere compared to sister restaurant Zuzu down the block, which exuded such inviting warmth that I almost insisted we abandon our plan and go there instead. But lamb tartare beckoned and so I obeyed. Superior Farms lamb tartare (bagna cauda, yogurt, $11): no complaints about the raw lamb. And at $11 this dish felt like a steal. My beloved Local's Corner (may it rest in peace)'s tartare was just beef and it was twice as much. But here the toast points, though crunchy, buttery, and full of tasty arterial death, were burnt. Mushroom escabeche (blue potato mash, hazelnuts, $4): good; the tiny dab of mashed potato was the best part. Rockfish ceviche (charred tomatoes, tomato, avocado, and not mentioned, cilantro microgreens, $13): fishy through the ceviche-ing medium. However, the charred tomatoes, tomatillos, and avocado were outstanding together. Too bad the fish wasn't the star of this, the most expensive plate of the night. The tortilla chips that came with were puffed like those weird fried strips some Americanized Chinese joints give you with that gross sweet pinky orangey "duck sauce," which is not what I want in a tortilla chip. And also somehow too corn-y (how is that possible?). Also, not a fan of cilantro. Can tolerate some in niu rou mien, banh mi, or pho, but otherwise keep that shite away! Oxtail empanada (natural red wine jus, $8/3): pastry was soft and flaky at the same time. Beef tongue (organic egg, fennel $12): too mushy. The yolk was lost in the fennel and these weird fuzzy leaves that were like eating lamb's ear leaves. Gilda (pickled boquerones, piparras pepper, olive, $3/2 sticks): very mackerely so if that's not for you don't order this. Head cheese croqueta ($3): a single hush puppy with a wet dog food center. But being organ meat saved it from being boring. "Clams sauteed" (LT chorizo, tomatoes, toasted bread, $12): yucky flavor profile; some of the clams fought back when I tried to open them. More burnt buttered toast redeemed this, though (even as it cut up the roof of my mouth and played havoc with my blood sugar). Spanish is not my strong suit, as I failed to realize bocadillos were sliders, i.e. more bread. So of course we ended up with all of them, lol. Meant to order 2 but went back and forth over which ones, so I guess she (accidentally-on-purpose?) put in an order for all 3 (and had someone else run these plates to us). But it turned out okay because I loved the one we intended to skip. Fried flounder (pickled shallots, charred lemon aioli, $9/2): an elevated Filet O Fish. Not as good as the salmon sandwich at Moo Creamery in Bakersfield I can't shut up about, but it's flounder. It's not a fair fight. Chicken thigh (apple, cabbage slaw, peri peri sauce $8/2): an unexpected hit. Despite being roughly the same price as a whole chicken from Nando's Peri Peri in Silver Spring, MD, it was spicy and delicious! Pork ribs (chili pepper relish, jalapeño, carrots, onion, $8/2): predictably too sweet for my Asian taste buds but still pretty good. Crispy pork ears: sweet, spicy, minty, fried to hard crumbles like the last dregs of bacon bits (which are not real bacon) at the bottom of the shaker. Not the spicy Chinese pig ears of my childhood, the fatty-bacon-like springy crunch I expect of ear cartilage. I was channeling my old Cavalier King Charles spaniel Dante (RIP) as I ate them. I know they would not have been the right texture for him but he would've inhaled them all anyway! Blood sausage: never came. They didn't charge us for it and we were stuffed so we let it go. Idiazabal flan ($5): wrong texture and flavor profile. I want jiggly Mexican market flan. Kakahuete y Chocolate ($5): big, soft peanut butter cup. My Spanish can't be *that* atrocious if I remembered kakahuete means peanut. See, watching Will and Grace wasn't a waste of time after all. Our waitress was at it again, bringing 2 coffees when the bae ordered 1 cafe con miel (honey, $5). I detest honey except unheated Rawesome honey, so I never would've ordered this. I would've gotten double espresso ($3.50) or cafe con leche (milk, $5), if I even drank coffee at night. She slung the cups and hightailed it out of there before we could react. Tried it just because it was put in front of me. Didn't like it. Didn't send it back because the bae happily slurped it up. Leaky bathroom faucet. They played The Specials! 3.5. Adding/omitting items tips the scales. The chicken I could forgive but doing it twice... and with blechy honey! Unforgivable. Lol Not against returning but I'd rather try Zuzu (and spend half the night imitating Professor Farnsworth calling out "Pizuzuuuuuuu!"). *hint: there is no tilde. Never have I seen it spelled empañada, not even on the menu here. And inb4 you ask, they did spell jalapeño with a tilde. read more

The girlfriend I visited Napa town for the fist time was born in Morocco but lived in Spain for many years. As good adopted Spaniard she know, like the one writing here, what a good tapa is. We were so pleased to have good quality food at La Taberna, even if sometimes they were not the most orthodox in Spanish cuisine (those fantastic paella croquetas...you don't find them in Spain but who cares, they are so super delicious!). The restaurant is petit, welcoming and charming. Looks like a real pintxos place you can find in Madrid or north of Spain. Spanish beer on tap and a lot of delicatessen. I loved the pulso al ajillo, it was formidable. I enjoyed our stay there so much. Awesome work in decorating the place, very simple yet very chic. Unfortunately we couldn't eat much because we spent all day eating by the time we to this place there was little room left but we ordered anyway. We had the charcuterie board which was really good, the choices of cured meat was great my favorite was the pate super yummy. My friends and I have been eating all day, but here we were eating some more. Their food menu is listed on chalkboards, while they have an extensive drink menu on paper. We ordered the fish board, salmon ceviche, lamb tartare, crispy pig ears, and paella corquettes. It may sound like a lot of food, but it wasn't. Rather than tapas, it's more accurate to refer to the food as pinchos (small snacks) as the portions were small. The food was good. The fish in the fish board were presented in tin cans. My friend commented that the pig ears were addictive although they are oily. My favorite was probably the lamb tartare as I love tartare of any kind. My friends also enjoyed the crispy grilled bread that accompanied the fish board and tartare. If you want more bread, be aware there is a charge. The waiter was friendly and attentive.
