Called for a to-go order. I asked specifically if they had breakfast burritos (hangover cure). They said they had breakfast burritos. I requested carne asada which was met with a reply of "they come in steak or chorizo." I guess carne asada isn't their steak? Um, yea, two steak breakfast burritos. We go to pick them up, and when handed to us, they're cold to the touch. Maybe it's just the wrappings? Negative. Cold as cold when we got home, just 5 minutes away. And to boot, they turned out to be just regular burritos, no egg, definitely NOT a breakfast burrito. Sour cream and lettuce and blah. Even more disappointing, it was a terrible burrito. Hardly any steak (carne asada), guacamole was only on one end of the burrito, and was not rolled tight at all, making it fall apart after one bite. I wanted to like this place given the lack of Mexican joints in the suburbs. But just terrible and disappointing. Sadly, will not return. read more

You know when something's so good, you have to just laugh for a little bit? Yeah, that's what this place will do to you. The lengua tacos are absolutely bonkers good. They're my favorite kind of tacos, and I've tried them in Southern California, New York, and here. And these are, by far, the best I've ever had. Generous portions and incredibly well cooked. I got the Po"Quito" Bowl with grilled chicken, and a side of elotes. (However, I'm a big elotes fan and don't love when mayo is just on top, but other than that it was good.) I found out about this place from a friend last Monday, and I have seriously been there five times since then! In my defense, I instantly started talking up the food to others, and then they really wanted to go - obviously they need a chaperone and I had to oblige! The food is - obviously - delicious! I've had the torta with milanesa, tostadas with barbacoa and with steak, their chips and guacamole. Their salsas are all a perfect addition. Their aguas frescas are tasty (Jamaica is great, and if you see Sandia (watermelon) on special, it's a fruity delight). And their tortilla soup, oh man. It's wonderful. It honestly tastes homemade. I had a bowl of tortilla soup with one barbacoa tostada, and my belly was very full and very happy. The folks working there are great, too! Kind, friendly, and they don't even judge you for coming in five times in 11 days! :D read more

La Taquiza is my favorite place in Winnetka; the Baja shrimp burrito is special, but the customer service is not. I usually do not dine in, but today we were on a walk and decided to give it a shot. I showed up today with my wife and 3-month-old daughter at 1:09- we ordered two burritos, one with chicken and one with shrimp. This always takes about 10 mins; even during busy lunch periods, it's 20 mins max. At 1:25, one of the employees approached us with a paper pad and stated that the printer was down, so to ensure everyone got the correct order, he wanted to write it all down. At this point, 18 people have walked in and ordered after us. I asked him if our food order was in, and he said, "Yes, it'll be out shortly." At 1:33, we realized that everyone who came in after us was starting to get their food before us. We asked the employee again if our food was coming he answered, "Yes, the shrimp takes a little longer." What really happened is he entered the orders backward. So the first was last, and the last was first (No, I am not quoting the bible). Look, I get it; we all make mistakes, but do not lie. Do your best to sympathize, then try your best to rectify. Throw in a chip, a drink, a hug or something. At 1:49, I spoke to a young woman and asked if we could get our money back and go home. They then told me the order was ready. 2 minutes later, we received our food, and that was it. To pay $30 for two burritos and get that kind of service is unbelievable. You can't make this stuff up. I'm a simple who loved a burrito, but now I am just heartbroken. read more

This is my go-to for after a hard day at work! I lucked out to be right around the corner. I'm obsessed with the hot cheeto burrito and so-cal burrito, and the elote cup gives me life. Instant favorite! I had a Bomba burrito bowl and plantains. The cashier suggested both the caramel and chocolate sauces, and I'm glad she did. The plantains didn't really need any sauce at all, but the combination was delicious!! If I had to choose one sauce, I favored the caramel. The Bomba burrito bowl was a very generous portion size, so totally worth the price. The Bomba had a good flavor, which was well-complemented by using both the green and red sauces. The service was also excellent - kind cashier, happy to suggest favorites for a first-time visitor, and good wi-fi. Had lunch there about 6 months ago. Spoke with the owner - she was very nice and chatted with me for a few minutes. Ordered nachos with beef. It was very good. Ordered the same thing through uber eats/door dash since then twice and was very disappointed as the meat was cold. Thought maybe it was because the drivers took so long to deliver the orders. Thought I would give them another chance as I had company from out of town and they wanted Mexican food. They ordered flautas, which they said was good. I ordered the same thing I always did - nachos with beef. I figured it would be good since we were eating in the restaurant and no chance of getting cold with a delivery service. Took one bite and the meat was, again, COLD. The owner wasn't there that day so I told the older gentleman behind the counter that the meat was cold. There was no apology, not even a confused look from him - nothing. He took my plate to the back and I heard him talking to the employees in the back. I heard the meat sizzling on the stove and he brought back a fresh order, and the meat was hot, as it should have been when I first ordered. Again, no apology, no dialogue - nothing. I don't know if they just didn't care because the owner wasn't there, or what the problem was. But they lost what would have been a loyal customer. What a surprise in Winnetka! We stopped in recently and had a very nice meal with friends, one of whom is from Mexico and who felt the meal was very authentic. We had the nachos which were very good and I had a couple tacos, also very good. One friend had enchiladas and others had burritos, all very good. I wished the food was slightly less greasy and the prices were a little high-ish but overall we were glad we had lunch here and will come back again soon! It's great to have a local spot like this in the neighborhood. read more
