They were a little inconsistent as some were tough, but they had the right amount of flavor. The beans were a pleasant surprise too. The olive mix had a good variety with plenty of them too. The large tomato pie ($19.25) was ordered. The crust was way thinner than I thought. It had good flavor, but was actually a little too crunchy, but nothing terrible where I would not order again. The tomato sauce was great, one of the better ones I had. It had a great balance with the tasty crust. Will I go back? Definitely.

Since I was craving pizza, hubs was also game, so we went with a large pie, with half pepperoni for hubs. We also ordered garlic knots, hoping they would be real knots instead of rolls. Our food arrived in a timely manner and was fresh. I was disappointed though because there was so much sauce on the pizza but hubs was happy since he loves extra sauce. I didn't think to ask for light sauce because there usually is not a lot of sauce on pizza up north but I learned my lesson. Hubs thought the pizza was good. The knots were rolls so I was disappointed on that aspect as well. We were in the area for a training Hubs had to attend and he had this place for lunch one day and said it was also good. The place is called Sal's Pizza and it's located on Rte 130 in East Winsor, NJ. People were very kind in the reviews---good sign. They had just turned on the lights moments before I stepped in and were beginning to stock the pizza case. I didn't feel like waiting so I ordered two plain slices and hoped for the best. I'll start with the good: The sauce is tangy and wonderful. It is seasoned OK too but it could use just a touch more to give it that "punch" that I seek. The cheese is premium mozzarella and has that stringy mozzarella cheese pull that makes for an A-1 pie. The crust (outer and underneath) is super flavorful. I would probably classify this as thin crust. The bad: There is ZERO CRISPINESS to the outer crust or the undercarriage. None. And as you would imagine, the slices wilt like wet noodles. When you try to pick it up, everything slides off. Even if you fold it, you get the same limp results. I was super diligent trying to eat and keep the toppings off my shirt. That didnt work either. T-shirt ruined. I wanted to dine-in but after I ordered, I had to run to my car to grab my wallet. When I returned within 30 seconds, (yes, really 30 seconds) they had already boxed my slices without ever asking me if it was to stay or go. I just assumed they didn't want me dining in for whatever reason so I paid and left. If they ever solve the crust issue, they'd have something special here. But until then, they are just.... Both arrived at my table covered in oil, dripping with oil. I had to let it drip off, and then blotted the rest with napkins, but it was still totally oily. The crust was so thin that each slice fell apart into a bunch of torn pieces that I had to eat with a fork. I ordered a side salad of lettuce, tomatoes, cukes, onions, the usual. Nothing fancy - no olives or giardiniera or anything like that. I wanted oil and vinegar for dressing, and it was brought to me mixed together. I asked for separate vinegar and oil so I could dress the salad myself, and the server was gracious and brought it to me. After dressing the salad, I couldn't even eat it. What is it with pizzerias that use their greenest, heaviest, most strong tasting and bitter olive oil in a fresh salad? It overpowers the salad, and tastes awful. We don't do that in Italy. Salads need a light tasting, light golden olive oil so you can taste the components of the fresh salad and not be massacred by the heavy bitter taste of oil. I am astounded when Italian pizzerias and restaurants do this. The good news? The sauce on the pizza was fabulous. The bad news? $16.00 for this mess. And no refill offered on the soda.

Perfect example of a classic Italian restaurant. Sal and co., always deliver a solid dining experience. We tried the fried calamari which crisp and delicious, and the La Terrazza Pixza was out of this world. We finished with a homemade cannoli, which the perfect add on to our espressos. The interior seating area is cozy, with modern and welcoming furnishings. As this was my first time here, we wanted to try out a variety of items. Meals start off with complimentary bread (5/5) made from pizza dough which was served warm and tasted delicious. We ordered garlic knots (4.5/5) which had a good texture and the right amount of garlic taste without being too overpowering. We ordered an eggplant rollatini (5/5), large cheese pizza (4.25/5), penne vodka (4.25/5), and chicken parm (4.5/5). The pizza had just the perfect balance with great tasting cheese, crust, and sauce, and while it probably won't win any awards, it was well above the average given the fierce competition among the central New Jersey pizzerias. Usually there's at least one weak point when trying a variety of food at a pizzeria/Italian restaurant, but everything we tried was enjoyable and our service (5/5) was excellent, I don't mind rounding my overall rating to a 5. Unfortunately, our experience started on the wrong foot. Our waiter greeted us without a smile and seemed unfriendly throughout the evening. We ordered appetizers, but no appetizer plates were provided. We had to ask for them because it appeared we were expected to use the small bread plates. After finishing our appetizers, the dirty dishes remained on our table for quite a while, even though the restaurant was empty. We ended up drinking our wine while looking at dirty plates waiting to be cleared. The biggest disappointment came later. A couple arrived with two young children, and despite the restaurant having plenty of empty tables, they were seated directly behind my girlfriend. One child was running around on the floor while the other repeatedly banged on the booths and walls. We have children ourselves and truly enjoy being around families, so this is not a complaint about kids. The issue was that there were many other seating options available, including another dining room with other families, yet they were seated immediately next to us in an otherwise quiet dining area. When the noise continued to escalate, I politely spoke with our waiter and explained the situation. His response was simply, "What do you want me to do?" I then asked to speak with the owner, but the owner never came out to address our concerns. By that point, we had eaten only about half of our meals. We asked for the check, and only then did the waiter offer to move us. Unfortunately, by then the evening had already been ruined. We paid our bill, left the rest of our dinners behind, and left the restaurant. This wasn't the children's fault. Children will be children. The disappointment was in how the situation was handled. When customers are spending well over $100 for dinner in a restaurant that is nearly empty, they expect a pleasant dining experience and attentive customer service. A simple decision to seat the family elsewhere or a willingness to address our concern promptly could have completely changed the outcome. It's unfortunate because the restaurant itself is attractive, and the food was good. However, good food alone cannot overcome poor service and a lack of consideration for the overall dining experience. Sadly, we will not be returning.
