What is most memorable about this dining experience was having a pianist play and sing a variety of classics that ranged from John Elton to Billy Joel. I have to say he was quite talented! I'm coming back just for the pasta. I went here on my birthday a couple of years ago and got the steak which was also good but the pasta is making me return. Recently, we took the family to the aquarium which was a lot of fun but we were exhausted. I asked my husband to find a place nearby that would be good for the kids and he found La Traviata. At first, I was worried because it looked pretty fancy inside and with two young kids I afraid we'd be shushed. But I was wrong! They were very kind to our big party and the kids. They had a good size kids menu and the mac n' cheese was excellent. The adults loved the alla checca pasta, the lasagna, and my fave was the wild boar bolognese. This dinner was planned weeks in advance. The service was very slow upon arrival (I almost walked out). The carpaccio was tough although thinly sliced. The chicken picatta was dry and the sauce was more like "gravy" than the light in texture lemon caper butter sauce one would expect from such a classic dish. My creme brulee had the consistency of soup which had to be sent back. The "owner" was in the dinning room but NOT "present". It's on the first floor of a historic building with residential above. Beautiful light fixtures and furnishings. Nice patio space with plenty of seating as well. Week night dining and the place was packed! Typical DT Long Beach for parking. There are some street parking spots but hard to come by. Parking structure next to the Billie King Library is a short walk and reasonable pricing. West Broadway Parking Structure on Broadway. Food - excellent menu selections for the private dining menu. We had chicken piccatta, salmon and lasagna. Desert offering was tiramisu. Everything was excellent - great quality which is sometimes a challenge for a large party. Mario saved me over the holidays this year. I had a very difficult situation with a vegetarian who is also allergic to several different food items and a vegan had similar issues I was trying to find a restaurant that could accommodate their issues that was open on Christmas Day. I came here for a team dinner. I honestly wouldn't recommend this place. The food wasn't good. I got their Mushroom Rigatoni and it was overly salty. We came to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and we enjoyed the lasagna, the filet mignon was exquisite; definitely a top steak. I recommend medium. I also had the chestnut soup and it was super delicious. I took the rest home. Finally, to celebrate the birthday boy, we had delicious dessert. Our first time to this place in Long Beach. They were open on Thanksgiving day for dinner service. Had housse made pupkin raviolis, grilled asparagus and for dessert had pistachio cheese cake. UPDATE 6/30/20: Our neighborhood gem off the beaten path is now open from Tuesday-Saturday, 5-9pm, and no seating at the bar during the new CA bar closure order due to spike in COVID-19 cases. Despite the closed off bar, La Traviata boasts in its authentic, rich, Italian cuisine, live jazz and historic decor. When we arrived Friday evening, there were only a few small parties inside and another party of two in the patio, well over 6 feet away from us. It felt so good to see the warm and welcoming faces of owner, Mario, and bartender, Sam, again! Our server, clad in mask, took wonderful care of us too. The pianist made our date night one of the most romantic dinners we've had in a while. We started with a couple of Sam's signatures, La Traviata's Old Fashioned and Bitter Mexican (tequila, Montenegro, grapefruit juice, and simple syrup). Sam's cocktails are very delicious and pack a good punch! As an appetizer, we ordered the Mushroom Strudel, which consisted of phyllo pastry, spinach, gruyere cheese and a raspberry-Syrah reduction. We actually ended up saving this for dessert because the raspberry reduction made the savory strudel more on the sweet side. I got the Risotto Mare with plenty of clams, mussels, calamari, shrimp and scallops in a light, white wine sauce. It was perfectly balanced and just what I wanted. He ordered Lobster Tortelli with porcini, truffle Parmesan cream sauce and truffle oil. The sauce was so irresistible, we cleaned up the plate with the complimentary, fresh bread. Being here for decades, it has survived hardships, making it one of the most resilient restaurants around. It's been two years since I've posted about La Trav, and it just keeps getting better. We have been coming here for a few years now and it's really become a home away from home of sorts. The team here, the owner Mario, bartender Jerry, Sam and so many others really make this place special on top of their amazing food. Our waiter Coco, who I think is new, was also awesome. We first came here during COVID for a birthday celebration. So warm, so welcoming, and the food was delicious. Since then, we've spent holidays here, spent evenings here, and really try to make this one of our regular spots in LBC. Dishes like the sea bass, lobster tortelli, are our favorites but we haven't had a bad dish yet! Finally, the ambiance and vibe is always fun there and upbeat. We made reservations and got seated right away. The restaurant is not relatively large but they do have outdoor seating. The interior is a little run down as it has the original restorations of the building. The chandelier is beautiful. The restaurant has a bar and a live piano player, which was calming. We started off with the calamari and bread. The calamari was massive, battered well and tasted delicious. We also ordered the lobster tortellini and the chicken Milanese with pasta. For the lobster dish because I know it is expensive, it wasn't too many pieces on the plate. The chicken Milanese was a good thinly slice chicken breast but tasted great with the pasta. read more

Been to La Traviata once, Father's Day last year, and I've been trying to go back since! First and foremost the service is what stood out the most. All the wait staff was very friendly, and attentive. There was a gentleman that was going around to all the tables which I'm assuming was the owner. He made us feel like family! Splendido! Magnifico! Delizioso! Vivamente!!! Valentine's Dinner 2022 will be remembered forever! Hubby sweetly surprised me with an awesome love-meal at La Traviata (both he and Mr. H devised a plan to surprise me, and it worked, wonderfully!) We've been meaning to try it for a while, and he picked the perfect time- on Valentine's Day. It was such a pleasant surprise to finally be able to eat the delicious, fresh and most delightful dinner ever!!! The waitstaff- all of them were attentive as they stayed busy tending to their tables. For starters, the bread and butter gave us an idea of how fresh our meal would be. The butter spread across that bread, which was fresh from the oven. Our appetizer's included Eggplant soup for me, Strudel for hubby- yummm- there was more deliciousness that would soon be invading our salivary glands. We were moaning and groaning with sheer delight at the freshness and flavor...but wait, there's more. Hubby's entree was the Filet Mignon, and I had the Lobster Ravioli- OHHHH MYYYYY, OHHHH MYYYYY, how can we continue this plethora of goodness in our mouths without swaying ever so gently in our chairs- it was THAT GOOD! We were having a celebration indeed. Hubby's meat was seasoned properly, and the knife cut through it like butter- it was that tender! My Lobster Ravioli had the best balance of lobster stuffed into each ravioli and the tastiest sauce over it- it took all of my will to not pick that plate up and lick it! Sooo delicious. We had dinner last night at La Traviata and it was just an amazing experience. Everything was an absolute 15 out of 10. The ambiance is simply off the charts: so charming and romantic! There was a small ensemble performing and they were incredible. The bar is gorgeous and my martini did not disappoint. My boyfriend and I shared the lobster ravioli and chilean sea bass, which was fantastic! I also had the Brussel Sprouts appetizer-one of the best preparations of Brussels I have ever had! All our entrees were Delicious and again portions we're bountiful. I ordered 6 different deserts for the table and yup, blown away with the quality and taste. The inside is appointed with an odd combination of French mixed with Italian but pleasant nonetheless. The menu is small, yet there are options available for a variety of diets. Perhaps you would have a different experience if you are a regular here as known guests received a different level of service. Nightly chef inspired specials feature local/seasonal ingredients. Staples on the menu are a French/Italian combination. Appetizers (especially salads) are not very sharable. For the price point per plate, I would have expected higher-quality service, larger portion size or items I can't make at home.
