My usual: 2 crunchy chicken tacos with unlimited chips and salsa. I LOVE it so much.
    Gina E.

This review has been long over due by like 6 years. There's something wonderful about this place where it reminds you of walking into someone's cozy home but not. Instead you walk into a restaurant in the nice area of San Dimas. When one of my friends found out I was moving to San Dimas 10 years ago, he recommended La Villa Kitchen. He said he and his family had been going for years and they know the mom and sisters. It's family owned and the food is great. I'm very picky with real authentic Mexican food and this area is in a predominantly white area so I was skeptical. This is not the hood so how good can this spot really be right? The staff are sweet and down to earth. Inside is clean and there are many booths to sit at. The customers sitting inside look like regulars. I still remember the first time I tried their unlimited chips and salsa. They were perfect. Til this day, I always look forward to them! I still order the same thing. Two crunchy chicken tacos. The shell is perfectly crisp and the chicken is flavorful paired with heaps of their homemade chips and salsa. I usually ask for more salsa because it's honestly the best salsa I've had. It's so fresh and it's never too salty or spicy. It's just perfect. I can drink their salsa. I haven't tried their other menu items because I love what I order so much. I'm so happy my friend told me about this place and now it's one of my favorite places to eat at. So is this restaurant real authentic Mexican food? Maybe... maybe not, but I'm telling you, try my order. It is DELICIOUS. In fact, I'll probably go again next week just to get my fix.

But no one see much of anyone these days Birthday Dinner Flautas Combinacion Plate (light guac) from #LaVillaKitchen
    Mojo S.

I had a girlfriend who lived up in the High Desert near Victorville. She introduced me to this local burger/Mexican fast food joint like three miles from her house that had the best flautas. And the best part was it was a drive-thru. There were so many times we were tired to cook, but we always had flautas from this place as a back-up plan. In the years since I've tried a couple different places for flautas but nothing ever made a huge impression. The flautas here though? They might've made an impression. Big chonky boys, both with lots of beef and flour tortilla, grilled just so--that's exactly what I want in a good flauta. Plus, being able to place the guac on the side, so I can spread a thin layer of guac instead of drowning it in the stuff is perfect for me. I enjoyed every bite. The space is respectable, has a good warmth to it, and is what you'd expect from a small Mexican joint. I also like the service. It's the kind where you sit yourself while they grab the menu and salsa & chips for you. But they check on you just enough to not seem pushy. I had no complaints in that department. All in all, when I'm thinking flautas, I'm thinking here first.

When we want to dine out, we consider the location, quality of the food, price, and customer service. Ask yourself what gives a place that extra touch to make you a repeat customer? Consider La Villa Kitchen, for example. This is a small business, family owned and operated since 1986, plus they care about their customers AND the surrounding community. This year, I almost forgot about the Angel Tree project that they partner with the Salvation Army. Children write a "wish" on a paper ornament, which is hung on the Angel Tree. I drop by for a bite to eat and randomly choose a wish as a "secret" Santa. I envision the child on Christmas morning with bright eyes to see a present waiting for them. The requests are so cute "a remote control car, an arts and craft kit, a skateboard, books, walkie-talkie, etc." Thank you to the owner and his sisters, who extended the deadline this year so that MORE children could be given that smile on Wednesday morning. I hope you will support and patronize this worthy restaurant, they have weekly specials: Taco Tuesday, Fiesta Friday and Sangria Saturday. Next December, consider participating in the Angel Tree project. Don't forget to tell'em that Rosemary sent ya!!

I was bringing my pet to a nearby vet clinic and it took a while so I came in and wow I'm impressed. Great prices great food nice selection. They have their own parking lot. I ordered the orange Roughy broiled. It's on the first floor. Music playing sounds what's not stuffy in here.

Food was good and it was great talking with Renee she was telling us the owners are from Guadalajara. The flavors are a little different than Mexican flavors. We have a Carna asada wet burrito the red sauce they use on top of the burrito is very tasty they also used it on the enchiladas. We also tried the enchilada and tamale both tasty but a different flavor. The tamale was covered with the sauce which was good but a little over powering for me as I like tamales. Chips and salsa the salsa was mild and the chips were nice and warm.. and although they come in a small bowl but they keep the bowl filled with chips. Great experience friendly people and a lot of local people come here.

It was my first time here! The food was delicious. Everything tasted pretty fresh! The atmosphere is super cute and the decor was nice. I liked the tacos and the cheese enchilada. The server was so welcoming and easy to talk to! They have seasonal pumpkin flan during the fall I will definitely be returning again sometime to try the desserts! Yum!

Best mexican restaurant ever and I love the service. I love the people that own it. And the ambiance is very quaint and family oriented. The food is delicious especially the chile relleno. The best in the west!!! My family has Been coming here since 1996.

I was so disappointed with my To Go Order tonight. I usually am very happy with everything about La Villa, but the portions seem extra small. I paid about $54 for a chile verde combo, an enchilada combo and a burrito. I got 1/2 the amount i usually get (eating in and take out). I know times are difficult but if we're paying about $54 i expect a decent portion. My chile verde was about 1 tablespoons and rice about 1 tablespoon in both orders . Pictures included and put spoon in there so u can gage portion. Very dissatisfied.. On a good note, my sister loved her burrito!

I love La Villa Kitchen and despite all of the negative Nellys on here their food and the staff are GREAT! The beans are incredible. However....ugh, I hate to say it but I feel it needs to be: the prices have gone WAY up! We came about 6 months ago and a one taco lunch special plate was about $8. Today it's $11.25! It would be ok if the portions match the crazy prices but they stayed the same. I get it, everything's gone up in price but a $3-$8 increase is incredible. The dinners are over $18! Anyway, if you know this place you know their food is great. Sadly, we won't be able to frequent it as often due to the prices and that we can get something less in price for just as good quality.

Unfortunately, it turned out to be the worst restaurant experience we've ever had. While we were waiting for the rest of our party to arrive, our waitress offered to bring us cornbread. She never mentioned there was a charge, didn't ask how many we wanted, and simply brought out two orders. Since she offered it and never explained it was an extra charge, we naturally assumed it was complimentary for the birthday celebration. Things only went downhill from there. The rest of our group was given a hard time at the front because they didn't know the exact name the reservation was under. We were also given grief for placing birthday presents on a chair at the end of the table, a chair the staff had placed there. We were told the chair was interfering with the wait staff, even though it wasn't blocking any walkways. It seemed like every interaction came with unnecessary attitude. Once we were all seated, our waitress seemed to have a chip on her shoulder from the start. She never brought out our ranch-style bread, rarely refilled our drinks, and repeatedly reached across the table, passing plates directly in front of people's faces instead of simply walking around to serve them properly. When our dinners arrived, our empty salad and appetizer plates were still sitting on the table. We had to ask her to clear them just so we had room for our meals. If we needed anything, we had to catch her as she hurried past our table because she never stopped to check on us. She would keep walking while we tried to ask for what we needed, so we had to quickly rattle everything off before she disappeared. To top it off, she was openly talking about our table to the guests seated behind us. It was completely unprofessional and made us feel uncomfortable. The level of service was disappointing from beginning to end. When my bill came, the total didn't add up correctly. I politely pointed out the discrepancy, but instead of checking it, she came back with the menu to prove I was wrong. Ironically, the menu proved she was the one who made the mistake. She even tried telling me I was comparing the menu price to a receipt total that included tax. I had to explain that the tax was calculated separately at the bottom of the receipt. Rather than apologize, she walked away and sent the manager over. Thankfully, the manager immediately recognized the error and corrected my bill. By that point, my family had enough and just wanted to pay and leave. To make matters worse, they were told they couldn't pay until everyone at the table had received their bill. The food didn't make up for the service, either. It was hot and humid inside the restaurant, the burger was as tough as a hockey puck, they were out of beef ribs so we settled for pork ribs that were mostly fat, and the steak lacked any flavor. To top it off, the restrooms had a strong urine smell, which only added to the overall poor experience. The only highlights of the evening were the company we were with and the Costco birthday cake we brought ourselves. I had read the recent reviews before coming and hoped people were exaggerating. They weren't!!! I wanted to give this place another chance because of the great memories we had at the one in Colton, but sadly, those memories are all that's left. If you're thinking about making the drive because of nostalgia like we did, I'd recommend reading the recent reviews first. I wish we had listened. We won't be returning. Thanks for a horrible birthday experience, Sundance & staff!

Last night, we returned once again, and it reminded us why this place has become so special to us. To start the meal, we shared the Housemade Artichoke Spinach Dip, which was incredibly creamy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. It was the perfect way to begin the evening. For our entrées, our group of four ordered one Wagyu Denver Steak and three Crown Roast Pork dishes, which have become our all-time favorites. The Bone-in Iowa Duroc Smoked Mignon of Pork was grilled and glazed to perfection with the restaurant's signature Smoked Pepper BBQ Glaze. We ordered it cooked medium, and it came out juicy, tender, and full of flavor. The Roasted Corn Succotash complemented the pork beautifully. Every dish was outstanding, and the service was equally impressive. Our server, Kim, was wonderful. She was friendly, attentive, and always greeted us with a warm smile, making our celebration even more enjoyable. The server was really nice, introducing and recommending dishes to us. I don't know how authentic their Italian dishes are, but here are some dishes that stood out to me: Orrechiette (9.5/10): a bit on the oily side, but it tastes really good with the Italian sausage and broccolini. Ravioli (9/10): I didn't know you can put beef inside ravioli until today. I always thought ravioli is filled with cheese. Starter bread (9.7/10): It is crunchy and airy at the same time. It tastes exceptionally good with the salted butter they provide. It is also free and refillable Red beets salad (8.5/10): I actually don't know the real name. I just remember the red beets taste really good. Daily special seafood (9/10): Also a bit on the oily side but their ingredients are fresh. I really love their shrimps. Tiramisu (6/10): Not the best tiramisu I had because it is more liquid. The server says they never add rum to it. Prosciutto e Burrata (8/10): I was expecting more from this dish but it tastes pretty basic. Nothing special or impressive.

I would be willing to forgive these things were it not for the declining quality in customer service from the hostess. I have been knowing the hostess, maybe she's the manager/owner too since even before they moved. Many happy memories were had in the previous location and she also seemed in much better spirits back then. Food quality has gone down. The prices are reasonable, however. But you walk in and are asked if you have a reservation. If you say yes, much joy! If you say no, it's like you've created a major inconvenience for them. Myself and wife have sat in the little bench waiting to be seated and we can definitely tell that reservation guests get treated much nicer than walk-ins. My advice is do not walk-in, make a reservation if you want to try this place. The spark is gone and I don't know who's in charge now but there are other better, much more customer service oriented places, around La Verne.

They took us to the second level and we found a perfect booth for two. This wonderful waitress came by and asked what we want to drink. And that came out in about five minutes. About eight minutes later the waiter and asked what we wanted. Took our order. It was delivered in about 15 minutes. The food was hot. The plate looked amazing. The ambience of this location is simple still very clean great lighting. The boost could need a little repair, they came by and asked if we were doing OK. Check up on our drinks and they were delivered with such pure. I was taken back with such joy. People were piling in this restaurant, and the drinks came out. The salads came out, and the soups came out looking beautiful in a very short time. The kitchen must've been really getting ready for this amazing Father's Day celebration. I ordered the chicken snack dinner. Which is truly my favorite. My father ordered the large chicken salad Thank you for making this Father's Day so very special for me.

While this often signals unwelcome adjustment for patrons accustomed to the manner in which an established restaurant's dishes are prepared, changes in recipes and/or ingredients being used, or just a plain old difference in overall taste or presentation, I'm happy to observe that, as a customer for decades, this wonderful little gem of a restaurant has maintained the key characteristics - both in food quality and service - that made our family fans so long ago. There have been some recent additions to the menu, in both dish selection and beverage variety, which actually align the restaurant better with contemporary tastes and dining trends. Traditionalists need not fear, however, as the old menu standards still remain and are as good as ever. (In fact, I didn't realize there had actually been a change in ownership until I directly asked our server after not seeing some of the usual staff over the last couple of visits; otherwise, I wouldn't have known.) In terms of ambiance, new booths were recently added (and are more comfortable), but the overall decor remains basically the same. Similarly, the service continues to be on point with dishes prepared upon order and delivered quickly, drinks refilled/refreshed regularly, and vacated tables cleared and cleaned in a timely manner. In summation, the Chopsticks House is as good as ever - and with a recently expanded menu, too. Portions are extremely generous, and they do not skimp on the proteins or quality of ingredients. Additionally, the popular lunch specials remain and continue to be a great value for early afternoon diners.

The champagne is more like prosecco, and I don't prefer so many places calling it champagne as a marketing gimmick if it's not actual champagne. The beef ribs, prime rib, and chilaquiles were great, while the shrimp, crab legs, fajitas, and most of the salad offerings were very poorly executed. I'd advise to take a little of each to find what's good so you can freely enjoy the subsequent rounds. I like the ambience here - I can see the potential of a nice dinner setting by the windows but during the daytime, it makes no difference where you sit - additionally, lighting is poor if you sit by the window during the earlier daytime. I like the mining theme which is all spread out around inside and outside the restaurant. Service is okay - some flagging down is required but requests are fulfilled in a timely manner.

Unfortunately, our celebration was surprisingly cut short for a 2-hour dining limit which we were unaware or ever experienced previously. Exactly at 12:40 PM, we were asked to leave our table. While I understand that high-volume restaurants track table turns, I was surprised because we have been coming for years, to celebrate milestones and this was never something we had experienced before. The manner in which your team executed this policy was professional , offering a place at the bar lounge, however, two of our party are elderly with one having recently had back surgery and needed the booth set up to sit easily. Instead of treating us like valued patrons celebrating a milestone, birthday and retirement, we were made to feel like an uncomfortable burden and we were forced to cut our birthday gathering short. As returning customers, we chose your restaurant specifically for its reputation and beautiful atmosphere. Regrettably, this experience left our guest of honor feeling rushed and unwelcome. I hope you will review how your team enforces these time constraints, particularly when dealing with families celebrating special occasions.
