This is one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in all of Texas!! The food is always very fresh and flavorful with large portions. I really love the spring rolls here they are big with a good balance of ingredients and a really tasty peanut sauce to dip in. The Pho is really good with a flavorful and nicely balanced flavor that reminds me if Pho in Vietnam. Another favorite is the Broken Rice! If you are looking for some delicious Vietnamese good come here. The place is bright and extremely clean making a really welcoming environment. It seems to be a family run business and they really take a lot of pride in making sure you have a great experience with attentive service and delicious food that comes out quickly. This is a strip mall gem as another reviewer said. To me this place is a hole in the wall spot but it's very clean and cozy. Felt like I was in someone's house. This is your random strip mall restaurant gem. From the outside you wouldn't expect much. Going inside it looks like a family run joint. Overall food was pretty good. Service however was not. This restaurant is in Garland. Neighborhood is kind of ghetto so lock your car and hide your stuff. Interior is super spacious and great for large parties. The waitstaff was very friendly and gave good explanations for dishes like how to eat it, and how the sauces, veggies, and pastes were meant to be used. We ordered a Bun Bo Hue and Bun Mang Vit. The noodle soups were very authentic. The Bun Mang Vit came with blood cake, duck, and large pieces of bamboo shoots. The noodles were a little too soft. The Bun Bo Hue came with everything it's supposed to come with - it had the usual meats, one big piece of blood cake, and one pork trotter. The noodles were just right. They gave a side of shrimp paste so you can add more if you need extra flavor. I thought the flavor was fine as is. The broths for both were delicious. The bun Bo hue is amazing. And I love the Thai chilies that come with it for the extra spice if needed. Especially the extra side of shrimp paste as well for flavoring. Truly authentic. Thing I like about dallas is that each restaurant specializes in one thing. I had a craving for bun Bo hue and my great aunt recommended this place. Let's start of by saying that the bun Bo hue was delicious and satisfied my cravings. It was not too spicy but enough that I can tolerate it. The noodles were one of my favorite kinds. The broth had so much flavor and it was overpowering with the herbs where all I can taste is one herb. It was made just right where the entanglement of the herbs were perfect. Came here shortly after 11 on a Sunday and must have been at the tail end of an early lunch rush. All the tables were either occupied with customers or uncleared dishes. I was excited to try the food seeing how busy they are. I think 80% of the customers were eating bun bo hue (beef stew vermicelli noodle soup). I had a few bite from my husband's bowl and we both thought it was tasty. They didn't skimp on the meat toppings. This is the first Vietnamese place that I see offering fresh Thai chili and shrimp paste to enjoy with BBH. Pho and rice plate were just as good. This was definitely a family run business. It was cute seeing all generations pitching in. There appears to be an authentic Viet menu since it was only in Viet. I can't read Vietnamese, so I did not order anything. My rating for this place is more of a 3.5/5! Their BBH is decent here. I'm not a fan of their snail cha, but some people really like the taste and therefore the BBH is better to them. The broth is savory and not too oily or heavy. There is a good portion of food so I'm always feeling satisfied. However I think their hidden gem is their bun tieu and com tam. It's sooo good. The bun rieu tastes just like home. It's savory, a little sweet, and the tofu and meat is cooked perfectly. Their com tam (pork) is tender, juicy, and just outright delectable. If you're looking for good Vietnamese food, this is the place to go. I just want to say that many of the 1 star reviews for this place is for the poor service; while I understand where many of these individuals are coming from, I want to emphasize that I believe the poor service in Vietnamese restaurants is often a prerequisite for really good food. This was true in our experience. These are one of the places that was open late until midnight, which is good if you have late night cravings. Service aside, the food itself was delicious. The later in the night you come, the more limited the menu. We came around 7/8pm, and there was no more banh xeo. We got the hu tieu kho (dry), bun thit nuong, and com bo luc lat. The best thing we had was the hu tieu kho (dry), by far. The dry noodles provide a great medium to which the light drizzle of the delicious sauce clung well. It was a flavor explosion in my mouth, and with every bite that I took, there was another punch of deliciousness. The flavor was extremely complex, with the right balance of savory umami, sweetness, and acidity. Furthermore, you can also adjust to your specific palate as condiments were available at every table (a practice common to most Vietnamese restaurants). There was also a side of soup, which was also very flavorful. You could eat it separately or pour a couple of spoonfuls into the dry hu tieu (dry) to help create a more sauce-like consistency. The bun thit nuong was also very good; the meat had a good amount of char on it that added not only depth of flavor but also a fantastic textural contrast to the noodles themselves. The in-house fish sauce was also very good; I recommend the entire small bowl of sauce in your bun thit nuong if you're a real one. Also add a little bit of the tableside sriracha and spicy thing. Finally, the com bo luc lat was so very good. The meat was extremely tender, with a unctuous, slightly-sweet sauce coating. The broken rice itself was cooked perfect, a little bit fluffy and fully ready to take on the sauciness of the meat. However, the portion for this is extremely small, so be mindful of that. Overall, this is a fantastic place to eat at. The hours provide a little bit of flexibility when you can show up. The experience itself was as authentic as you can get: mediocre service that was greatly offset by the amazing food. Definitely recommend the hu tieu kho (dry)! 5/5 stars, will definitely come back! read more

With all the great reviews I Expect A lot more than what I received in quality. I'll leave it simple the pork tasted like it had been out all day. The pho (which is supposed to be one of the cleanest soups) definitely was not. It has been the greasiest phos I've had. The fresh spring rolls, had the pork and couldn't get myself to eat it. The vermicelli was the only one I was able to eat after taking out the pork. Hoping I can try this restaurant again with no pork and pho maybe order something else. read more

We came here on the way to get Asian groceries. We were seated right away and drinks came soon after. The place was clean and we didn't have to wait that long for our food. My husband and I ordered bun bo hue and banh xeo. The soup was decent and came with pork blood and pork, flank meat. The banh xeo was cooked perfectly and crispy with plenty of pork and shrimp instead. Our waitress was very nice and checked on us. We saw the cook came out to chit chat with her regulars. Craving Bun bo Hue? I am! This spot is perfect for Bun bo Hue and I stop by here any time that I'm in Dallas. I haven't ever had their Pho, but I really don't want to miss out on the chance of their Bun bo Hue, sorry! My usual order is the Bun bo Hue, Spring Rolls, and Coconut Juice which is a surprising value! The spring rolls are delicious, there is flavor both in the dipping sauce as well as the roll itself, which most rolls that I've had tend to have tasteless leafy rolls and a lot of sauce to cover it up. The egg rolls are also an unexpected treat. While not my favorite menu item, they certainly are unique to the restaurant and I easily have them every few visits. While they are used to be open late, they now close closer to 9PM due to COVID, which I completely understand, though with the changing COVID protocols and customer traffic, the hours may be back to normal now when the read this. Just be certain to call the restaurant if you think that you'll be there late, since there is no guarantee that they will still be open / willing to serve you if you're too late! I have been on the hunt for the best bun bo hue (spicy beef noodle soup) in the DFW metroplex and ermagerd (no pun intended even though I do have GERD) -- I have finally found it! Phuong Nam is tucked away inside this tiny plaza off Plano and Walnut but it's one you shouldn't miss out on. My boyfriend and I normally make the 4 hour trek to Houston for good bun bo hue and other good Vietnamese eats but now we won't have to go so far for a good, spicy, delicious bowl of bun bo hue! Phuong Nam's flavors are on point with the right amount of spice and the meats are so tender. I usually don't enjoy the meats in bun bo hue because they tend to be on the tougher side but Phuong Nam's execution is perfect! We always see people eating their rice dishes and they look amazing so we want to try them as well but we are so addicted to the bun bo hue. Most of the Vietnamese restaurants in Garland are located on Jupiter and Walnut but trust me when I say you need to go one street down away from the crowds and eat at Phuong Nam. read more

I've heard rave reviews about their BBH and it totally did not disappoint! The lemongrass flavor is really dominant and their cha OC is seriously money. I'm a little torn but I THINK I prefer this place over Pho Tay Do (I KNOW RIIIIGHT?!) The bun rieu was also super super yummy as well. I loved how both dishes had the perfect amount of broth, noods, and protein. I'm a broth lover so I really appreciated the balanced ratio (usually way too much noods). 1. Unfriendly staff & owner. 2. Cleanliness is nonexistent. 3. No employees of the restaurant wear masks. 4. Questionable final amount on the bill. When entered the restaurant, I noticed that the owner and his staff aren't wearing any masks, I was almost wanted to leave but my wife had been craving Bún Mắm, so I gave in and stay. After all, if the foods are good, the visit might worthwhile. We waited for maybe 3 minutes before the staff came over to take the order, it's no big deal. We came at around 12:30 pm but the restaurant is half full, so not sure why the 3 minutes wait though. The dishes (Bún Mắm & Bún Đặc Biệt Phương Nam) came at 7 minutes mark after the order is placed. As for the taste, the dishes are decent. The marinated grilled pork on my dish is a bit salty but I had worse, so as for the food, I would say not great but not bad either. If it wasn't for what I have witnessed next, I would not be on here leaving a review. 1. The owner was sitting at another table eating crab legs, naturally, with his hands, no big deal as that's very much how we all eat crabs, with our hands. However, when he was enjoying his crab legs, more customers entered, so he put the crab legs down, licked his hands to "clean up" the residue, then promptly get up, went to the counter, pick up the menus, and gave to the customers.... Hello, hygiene, do you have it? Yes, I know the menu is most likely full of germs already but come on... 2. The waiter, presumably, the owner's family member or son, dropped a to-go box on the floor by accident, instead of throwing that box away and getting a new one, he picked it up, and promptly bring that box to the customer who requested it.... Both actions from the owner and his staff are what caused me to write this review. If they are blatantly disregarding the cleanliness and do not display that they care about hygiene in front of customers, what else they would allow in the kitchen. Obviously, no restaurant is 100% clean as home-cooked meals, but come on, at least don't blatantly do that in front of the customers. Another straw that broke the camel's back is when my wife went to pay for the meal. The bill came out exactly at $28. I love the grilled pork with a a drizzle of oil and sauteed green onions. The seasoning is just perfect and the thin slices pork were grilled so nicely with the right amount of char. The fresh cucumbers and tomatoes with some pickled veggies were a nice touch to add some acidity to the richness of the grilled meats. The steamed rice or broken rice can be added to the order. The fish sauce is sweet and sour, not too spicy, that you can pour on the rice plate. All in all, the grilled pork is the super star on this dish.
