Lago is amazing. I have visited Lago many times throughout the years and nearly every time, it's phenomenal. The overall atmosphere is cozy and inviting. With tables that look out onto the lake, as well as cozy booths, there's truly something for everyone to be comfortable. The bar area is nice. While it can get a bit loud and busy, the bartenders are wonderful and the bar itself has ample seating. The menu is great and has a lot of different choices. Definitely try their Antipasto platter and Burrata. They are amazing appetizers and will not disappoint.Their salads are great and always taste crisp and fresh. One of the nice things about Lago, is that they have some pasta items that you can get as an "appetizer" portion or as a "dinner" portion. This is great for those folks who like a lighter meal. Their other entrees are amazing (do yourself a favor and try the braised short ribs). The flatbread pizza specials that they have are delightful as well. Everything tastes wonderful and savory. We went for dinner before a play at the Winnipesaukee Playhouse because it isn't too far from there. We had called ahead so we were seated as soon as we got there. We were seated in a private little room with a view of the lake. The view was very nice, but we were right next to kitchen and it was very, very warm to be point where we were sweating just sitting there. We split a Cesar salad, which was yummy as they usually are at Common Man restaurants. The croutons were good. The bread was also good with the dipping oil. The free cheese and crackers were good as they always are at CM establishments. The waitress got my order wrong so we both ended up with chicken parm. It was one of the worst chicken parms we had ever eaten. It had a strange texture and did not taste good. My husband who loves chicken parm, and orders it at just about every restaurant, left most of it on his plate. After dinner they served chocolate covered espresso beans and shots of lemoncello. Both were good. Other than the great view, salad and complimentary items we were not impressed. I wish I had read the reviews on here prior to deciding on going here. Lesson learned! read more

This was our first dinner experience at Lago and we have to say we were truly disappointed with our dining experience. The wait staff was very nice and in training but the food was another story. Now for the food! All I can say is expect the unexpected at Lago... My wife and I both ordered the meatloaf with mashed but what we got was three meatballs each placed on top of a spoonful of mashed potatoes. This was not what we expected and not meatloaf hence the the descriptive word loaf. Now for the quality. This dish was so sweet to the taste with a barbecue sauce that it made us nauseous with a horrible case of heartburn later that evening. We ate here with another couple on our first night of vacation on Lake Winnipesaukee. When we pulled up we were struck but the great location - RIGHT on the lake at the end of Meredith Bay. When we walked inside it got even better - there are enormous paned windows on the entire side facing the water with huge curved booths to sit and enjoy the view. Unfortunately, the ambiance was the best thing about this place. Meredith is a very interesting place because all of the establishments seem to be owned by the same group - The Common Man. I told my husband multiple times that the whole town seemed like Epcott. Anyway, Lago is part of this group and the menu was seriously lacking. Given that we are from North Jersey where good Italian good abounds, I recognize that perhaps we're being snobs, but the food here was just really underwhelming. We got a flatbread pizza and bruschetta for appetizers, both which were described as having "fresh mozzarella" and both which arrived with what was obviously melted shredded mozzarella cheese. For dinner I had a pasta with spinach and ricotta that was completely lacking in taste. My favorite part of the meal (food-wise, since I've already covered the fantastic ambiance) was the dark chocolate-covered espresso beans at the end. Lago was recommended by a work acquaintance of Hubby's. Since we're a couple of Californians visiting the area as leaf peepers, we were open to suggestions. We walked in to a warm & bustling restaurant, but we were seated immediately. Loved the bowl of olives. Then to make the evening even brighter, our server told us it was "Wine Down Wednesday," 50% of bottles of wine under $50(1/3 off over $50) We had the Brushcetta Margrita for an appetizer. For dinner I had Vitello Saltimbocca(veal, sage, prosciutto, Marsala butter over fettuccini) & Hubby had Osso Buco(tomato braised pork shanks, risotto). We shared Torta di Ricotta(a ricotta & mascarpone cheesecake with fresh berries) It was all so good! Then they send you home with a shot of lemoncello & white chocolate. MMM! MMM! MMM! Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable with the menu. He added to the whole experience. The prices were reasonable too. I've paid more for a less satisfying meal. Lago is a cute, reliable spot for dinner that isn't too heavy. The service and food can sometimes be a little hit-or-miss on regular nights, but overall we usually have a very nice time there. I know it's part of a big chain, and that can be a little off-putting, but I am mostly writing this review because we ended up having our rehearsal dinner for our wedding here, and it was PERFECT. First of all, the managers who organize and plan special events are top notch. They are far and away among the most attentive and professional people I've probably ever dealt with in the restaurant business, and I used to plan private dinners every six weeks at my last job in LA. They were always available for quick questions and last minute changes (yikes! the curse of the rehearsal dinner! it is NEVER the number it's supposed to be :P ) I had called many other restaurants in the area (who will remain nameless) and they were disorganized, rude, tacky, overpriced or some combination of those things. Yay Lago! We had a beautiful spot near the windows overlooking the water and our waitresses were fantastic, taking excellent care of the group. Everyone really loved their food, but mostly it was just the great atmosphere of feeling at home that made everyone have a great time. I thought the restaurant did a good job of managing our group without anyone compromising- other diners, our guests, or the guests of the other large group nearby. it was just good planning on their part. After dinner we walked down to the Lakehouse where we had invited other out-of-town guests for informal drinks. You can't reserve any space in that bar, but the folks at Lago helped us coordinate with the Lakehouse so they would expect our large group, and help lead stray guests to the right spot. It all ended up being a perfectly easy and fun night, without any drama or stress. read more

Two people in my party of four had the chicken marsala and both said the same thing...it was more like chicken with brown gravy with not even a hint of marsala. I'm fairly surprised by the previous reviews of this restaurant. I went last Saturday with a group of friends and had a very good experience. We were a group of 11 people, and even with that large a party, we had very attentive and quick service. I shared the fried calamari appetizer and then had the grilled salmon with a fig relish and risotto. Meanwhile, many of my friends really enjoyed the mushroom ravioli. A few of the other things I liked about the restaurant were the cheese block (open to all) in the front of the restaurant and the after meal complimentary chocolate covered espresso beans. The food was good. The servers were friendly. The acoustics inside the restaurant weren't great it was hard to hear over everyone else's conversations. The prices were slightly high. The menu needs to be completely redone. The selections were fine but most of the menu was in Italian and the language was far from correct. It was slightly worse then Google translate. Location Location Location. Probably the only reason this place is still in business. The food is so-so and the service is poor. But the location is fantastic. Great décor overlooking the lake with a fabulous view. We had the mussels which were decent, wife had a salmon salad. Supposed to be Arugula but came mixed greens. Ate it anyway. The salmon was dry as dust. I had the Alfredo which had no flavor. We sat at the bar and with only one other person at the bar took a while to get a drink. Bar tender was busy making table drinks. Also took awhile for the food. Dirty plates sat in front of us for quit a while then took forever to settle tab. I should have just walked out. It was late afternoon on Sunday and not that busy either. So may be back for a drink and the view just because of the location but this place would die anywhere else. Came here on our way home from camp and not my first time here. Food was great. We started with the antipasto which is basically a chacutterie board. It was phenomenal. Plenty of options and toppings. Had the summer gnocchi which was delicious and my other half had a sausage broccholinni dish that she also loved. We sat at the bar and the service was just OK, hence the reason for 4 stars. She really wasn't personable and paid little attention to us. Forgot our bread. Other than that everything was great. Terrible service, cold entree that wasn't ever checked upon, the bar- what to say about the bar- was a circular firing squad of ineptitude, unfriendliness, and confusion more reminiscent of Soviet nuclear technology than a high-end dining experience. Wife and I enjoyed a very relaxed and enjoyable dinner at Lago. Tourists are gone which relaxes the at time "hoity toity" scene. Got right in, had a terrific app the burrata and outstanding dinner. We both had the statler marsala which was awesome! Chicken breast was roasted with the bone, then deboned and finished with the Marsala, cippino onions, mushrooms and prosciutto, all over gnocchi. Lagos is solid. Not the best itailan I have ever had but always good enough. They also have some great specials like "wine down Wednesdays" where they have legit bottles of wine for 1/2 off. I have no idea how this place has the rating it currently does. This was hands down one of our favorite dinners ever! Every single aspect of our experience was perfect. We are from Boston and I am really hoping to have my fiancé fall in love with this area and this dining experience sure did help. We were sat at a table next to the window for perfect viewing of the lake and the white lights that are strung around Meredith. For a drink we chose the hot and dirty which was a fantastic dirty martini with a splash of tobacco accompanied with blue cheese stuffed olives and a salt/pepper rim. Perfection. The Cesar salad was great and we both commented on how flavorful even the Parmesan cheese was! My fiancé ordered the bolognese which I was able to get one bite of before he scraped the plate. I had the eggplant over a bed of veggies and zucchini noodles. SO MUCH FLAVOR. One of the top three meals I have had to date, and we are debating going back again tonight! read more

Best dinner I ever had! Restaurant is a good size and with great views of the lake from almost every table. Server (Stephanie) was attentive and friendly and helped us make decisions since everything looked amazing. We ordered a hot cider frog drink and it was delicious! We also ordered a bottle of wine (Wednesday's are half price bottles of wine), many choices! There were so many good appetizers between the menu, fall menu specials and daily menu specials, it was hard to choose! We were happy with everything we ate- the appetizer, pistachio crusted sole and prosciutto wrapped bison meatloaf- all delicious! We ordered a raspberry chocolate ganache dessert (special) and it was to die for! The whole experience was amazing. Ok.... truly had such a wild and strange experience at this restaurant. The views sitting outside were great and the food was fine but the service was uncomfortable and strange. The servers are extremely strict about IDing customers. Out of the group of five of us (all around 30) one of our friends only had a photo of her ID. The server waiting on us while we waited for our table refused to bring her a glass for our shared bottle of Prosecco. When we got to our table, our new server ID'd all of us again and quizzed all of us on our birthdays (I guess this is fine, but it felt over the top to be ID'd twice and given such a hard time about this- it did not feel welcoming, we just felt like a burden). Our sever asked us what we wanted to eat about 10 seconds after placing down our menus. We thought she was joking but she wasn't! When we asked her about various dishes on the menu she made them sound extremely unappetizing (e.g. the alfredo is REALLY oily and it looks like there is no sauce on it, the eggplant is extremely thick and chewy and a lot of people don't like it). When our sever brought me the wrong meal for my dinner I told her the meal actually wasn't what I ordered. After I said that, she said nothing and awkwardly stared at me and the rest of the table in silence for about ten seconds. I think she was hoping I would say 'nevermind, this is fine'. She told me if I wanted a new meal it would take a really long time for the kitchen to make. I opted to eat the meal she brought me, and it wasn't comped on our bill. We ended up just paying for it because we wanted to get out of there by the end of the night. read more

1st rule of thumb. Don't try to go to any of the Common Man family of restaurants during the summer. It's a *zoo*!! The lakes region, in general, is a mess. BUT - if you're here and hungry Lago is one of your best bets. Don't bother with the full size pasta dishes, the appetizer bowls are plenty big. For $5 (plain spagetti and sauce) you have a beautiful bowl of hand made pasta topped with a flavorful and fresh sauce. Did I mention that their wine selection is excellent (go on Wednesdays for half price bottles). My only critique is that their decor needs updating. It's looking a little dingy. read more

Lago is a very popular local restaurant specializing in Italian cuisine. It's been about a year since we last dined there and I as extremely disappointed. The prices of the entrees are very reasonable but my experience with the rib-eye and scallop surf & turf was just awful. Two scallops and the steak was completely inedible - very fatty and stringy as was my friend's who ordered the same meal. I'm very surprised that those cuts of meat ever found their way onto a customer's plate. I've dined at Lago dozens of times over the years and have had little complaint with either the menu or the service but make sure to call ahead on the weekends. read more

We went to Lago last night for a quick dessert and glass of wine (after going there for dinner the night before and having a great meal.) We were blown away by the service and how the hostess and waitstaff went out of their way to accommodate us on a very busy Friday evening. We unfortunately did not catch the name of the hostess, but she was incredibly warm and personable, and found us a great spot outside with a beautiful view of the lake when there was no room inside. Our server Jason was clearly very busy, but never once let that effect his attentiveness to us and was incredibly friendly. They even went as far as sending us home with an extra dessert on the house. We were so incredibly impressed with our experience, it was hands down the best service I've ever seen at any restaurant! The review is mixed. We had 13 people at our table and the waitress Gracie was fantastic. She gets 5 stars. Appetizers were good, not great. Calamari was bland. Meatballs were very good and I'm not a fanatic about meatballs. Antipasto was mixed. The meats were not as flavorful as I would expect. The jam was very good. Oh, the bread they had for the table along with the dipping oil was great. On to the entrees. I had the ORECCHIETTE SAUSAGE BROCCOLINI which was so incredibly small. A handful of pasta, maybe half of a ground Italian sausage, and a small amount of broccolini. Besides being incredibly small, it didn't have much flavor. Add some garlic guys. I wonder if they were running short on pasta which costs almost nothing. My wife had the veal milanese. The crust was way too crispy. If you got thru the crust, the veal was tender. If you read what came with it, you see a salad which had prosciutto in it. This was the same prosciutto in the antipasto. It was not prosciutto de parma. Very low grade. Short rib was good as were the scallops. I would hesitate to go back. read more
