Gotta say that this was the first bar I ever visited on my very first trip to Mammoth Lakes back in January 2005, so I'm always gonna love it. Not to mention that it was a very frequent hangout in the 4 1/2 years I lived there. Really friendly owners and staff, great specials, and lots of unique events. Never had a bad ride with the food or service. Sure, it gets a little hectic sometimes, but aren't most bars like that? Lots of good times and fond memories for me here. We came here for lunch on a quiet day and ordered plates to share. We were seated quickly and made our orders in a timely manner. The waitress and runners were very polite and attentive. We ordered the soup of the day (beef veggie), Kailua pork nachos, poutine, and sliders for 4 people. They were out of cheese curds, so we got chili cheese fries instead if the poutine. The servings were large and we didn't have to ask for plates to share. The sliders were REALLY good -- juicy, well seasoned, with grilled onions. The coleslaw on the side was good too. The chili cheese fries were delicious, just a little salty. And the nachos were awesome! The pork was good and the coleslaw/pineapple was a nice touch. The only disappointment was that it was more like just a chip dish than nachos, because they didn't use nacho cheese... Just shredded cheese that was not fully melted. Boo. Overall really recommend this place, they were polite, timely, and a great value with tasty, filling food and a varied menu. This was probably the worst meal I have ever eaten. Ordered a loco moco with Mac salad. How do you mess up a loco moco!!?! The gravy was too thick and way too salty. The Mac salad had no flavor and the jasmine rice was not cooked well. The rice was hard and probably cooked long enough. Our friend ordered the Philly cheese steak sandwich with fries and his order came with Mac salad. The waitress never came back for us to correct the wrong order. Shout out to Kyler behind the bar! The food here is great, the drinks are inventive, and a Hawaiian theme restaurant at a ski resort town? Brilliant. The main reason I'm recommending this place is because of their bartender, Kyler. He's a friendly, seasoned bartender that provides exceptional & efficient service with abundant humor, sharp wit, and local knowledge. We visited this place three times during our stay at the Village and he served us twice (Saturday & Sunday night) meaning I wish I could leave TWO 5-star reviews for this establishment on his merit alone. I would definitely recommend anyone visiting Mammoth for skiing/snowboarding to pop in here for some great island-style food and a cocktail served in a shell or bowl, for a tropical taste in a mountainous setting. It has a tiki theme, but really it's just your typical bar scene and there was nothing about it that really impressed me and my friend when we came here. We came here for happy hour, and I have to say they were not bad! $5 for some appetizers and $4 for drinks. We order coconut shrimp, buffalo chicken wings, fish tacos, and ribs. This place is what it is; a purposely cheesy Tiki Bar, and it's fun! I've been here twice. The food I've had was good and when it turns into a club, it's fun. It's a notch or two better than the Whiskey Creek but similar. It's not overstocked with people posing like Zoolander, it's just more of a casual vibe where people actually smile and have some fun... and not a dudefest, unlike Hyde, this place is more like 3:1 (guys to girls). I was there the week Lakanuki opened; it's owned by some wise-arses from Whistler and they brought a crew of partiers to Mammoth a couple summers ago to christen the joint with ladies underwear (hanging from the rafters) and dancing on the tables. Seriously; ladies love to dance on the tables here since then; even my so-called prissy USC lady-friends. Bumpin' and grindin' on the tables. Other than the thought of that spectacle, Lakanuki holds little appeal for this boring guy. My buddy Neal makes a killing here on cougars and "6's," but otherwise it is a dude-fest and just a bit too young for me. The bar itself is nice, but the DJ is usually clueless and the crowd a bit too derelict. Grown-ups usually head for Nevados, and now that Dublins/Fever has been re-born as Auld Dubliner, there's a new joint to hit. read more

So I am not a Mammoth local, so maybe another night would have been a much wiser choice. My friends and I only went here because everywhere else in the village was packed and hour wait for dinner. This place was empty (that should have been enough of a warning, but my appetite always takes the lead in life decisions). So we came on in. I ordered chicken tenders, because I thought, "hey no wrong can be done with such a standard epicurean dish." I was wrong...It tasted as though it was reheated and served the SECOND time around. I then feared for my intestinal wellbeing and just downed a beer to act as an anti-microbial agent. This place would be cool if I was still in college and didn't care about anything but alcohol (what am I saying I still only care about alcohol, but I guess now I just want a better environment to drink it in). I don't know what everyone's complaining about - this place was awesome! The food was delicious!!! We were blown away. We had the Tiki Coconut Shrimp served with plum sauce which was a wonderful combination. We had the happy hour truffle fries that were OUT OF THIS WORLD! We also had the grilled asparagus with organic sweet tamari and shaved parmesan and it was perfectly yummy. To finish it off we had the passion fruit caramel brownie which is a chocolate brownie with passion fruit caramel drizzled over the top with mango frozen yogurt or vanilla ice cream. Bomb! It was gooooood. The Mai Tai is also tasty. The only reason I didn't give them five stars is because they have limited vegetarian options (no veggie patty for burgers, etc.), they didn't have any souvenir ceramic tiki mugs (but they do have complimentary plastic souvenir cocktail cups if you order a specialty drink), and they played blues instead of Hawaiian music (I think because it was the Blues and Brews festival weekend). This is an update. I'm so sad that they got rid of not only my favorite dish to eat there, but my favorite dish at any restaurant period - the Koa Bowl. I am also disappointed that it is no longer a full-service restaurant. We walked in to utter chaos - it was not clear what was going on. We figured out that you need to be lucky enough to snag a table and then place your food order at the bar. Drink orders were handled separately for some reason. The food was still pretty good, though I was sorely disappointed about the disappearance of the Koa Bowl. My family had a burger, a pulled pork sandwich and chicken tenders, all of which were reported to be tasty (especially the pulled pork). In my dismay over the menu change, I ordered the pulled pork nachos. Unless you are a fan of Little League snack bar "cheese" goop, I would not recommend them. What little pork I could find among the chips and goop was very tasty, however. Sadly, I don't believe this will be one of our Mammoth "go-to" dinner places anymore. I came in just before 3pm on 2/17/18 with my teen girls who were ready to grub. There were maybe a dozen other customers at various tables. Asked one of the bartenders if we should seat ourselves, which we did. Sat down and waited 10 min w zero acknowledgement of our presence. I watched employees walked past us 10x (combined. I counted! ) The wait staff totally avoided eye contact with us, they had to pass our table to get across the restaurant. No "Hello", No "Be with you in a minute" and no drink order. Finally asked to speak w someone before leaving. I was directed to the male bartender who KNEW we had been sitting there and he offered to take our order. By this time I was leaving and wanted him to know why. I wasnt rude to him. Response? Byeeeee, Theres the door. Shocked because I've honestly never been treated so badly. This place used to be decent. USED TO. Now you can tell it's a hangout joint for the staff and not an actual place of employment. How do I know this? From the multiple times I saw them sitting on the bar (yes on), in the back talking, and just being on their phones. Meanwhile we waited for our food for way longer than expected for a non busy day. No updates. No check ins. No service. People left and their dirty tables just sat there while the people "working" just chilled. Customers notice these things and if they keep the open front dirty I wonder what the heck the kitchen looks like! Not to mention they even take the liberty to edit your order without telling you. I got a spring mix salad and when it finally came out it was all iceberg lettuce, not a heads up that they maybe ran out of anything, they just decided to serve a sad excuse for a salad anyway. The only silver lining is they they refunded us for it. They also got my mother's order wrong and forgot the grilled pineapple which took even longer to come out. My theory is that they know a lot of people coming are tourists so they don't care to make an impression or give good service since they know we're only here for a short time. read more

But this bartender started serving his friend even though he knew we were next. Again, not as big of a deal if he orders a couple beers or shots. His friend proceeded to order cocktails for his party of 10+. We expressed our frustration with this favoritism with bartender and he said "OK." Seems that they're used to these types of comments. I have been here twice over a two year period. The frist time I went, about a year ago, I had a 3 to 4 star experience. It was good food, as long as your expecting bar food. The service was kinda slow but the workers were laid back and very friendly. Frankly, them being so friendly was why it would have been a 3-4 star experiance over a 2 to 3 star experience. I went there again recently, for my second attempt. In there defense, the place was busy... not packed but sufficently busy. They did a decent job in seating us in a reasonable time but from there on out the service went down hill. They took forever to take our order.... there was 6 of us all starting to get irritated. Finally, when they brought our beer, they seemed to busy to understand that we needed more beers at the table. So that took a while and I had to literally wave my hands in the air to get her attention. Also, when our food was brought out, they brought the appetizers at the same time as the main course. This is not a huge deal but come on, its a simple thing that most people appritiate. The food over all was once again good. The order was accurate except one person never got their soup but since all the food was delivered at once, it wasn't a big deal and they didn't put it on the bill. Also, one person had specific request about NO ONIONS, and her meal still came with onions. Once again, not a huge deal but this would have been an easy way to keep customers happy. Lastly, if you are ordering burgers, they automatically make them rare to medium rare and they don't ask how you want them cooked... so specify. The only reason this place is getting 2 stars over 1 star is because the food itself is good and the staff is friendly. read more

Seemed like a line was forming at the front and thought the bar tender was asking people to come to the other side of the bar so we followed to the other side. He asked if we were with the couple in front of us and after saying no he very rudely told us to go get back in line at the front. No clear direction and doesn't seem to function like a normal bar. Drinks were absolutely awful and the woman who made our drinks was almost equally as rude. If I'm paying $17 for a shitty cocktail I expect the bartender to at least be a bit friendly. I should have checked Yelp beforehand, but the menu looked pretty good, so we went in for dinner on a Sunday. After waiting at the entrance for a bit, we were finally told if we could find a table outside, we could have it--kind of an odd way of greeting customers at dinnertime. In hindsight, we should have done a 180° on the spot. At first, our waitress tried to accommodate, but then it went downhill. I had to ask for napkins and utensils, and after the food was brought out, she disappeared and didn't check on us until we were almost finished eating, with a "you guys *still* doing ok?" as she strolled past. Still? How would you know how we were doing? She disappeared again. Finally, we had to ask a different waitress for the bill. It wasn't that busy, but it was a Sunday, so maybe they were understaffed (?). As for the food, I would say the burger was meh. It was overcooked. The red onions were raw, despite the menu and our waitress saying they'd be caramelized, and the other waitress who brought the burger saying "oh there are caramelized onions in there, too," (there weren't) after I pointed out the raw ones. The bun was a cheap, spongy substance that flattened into a pasty goo after absorbing what little juices the patty produced. The sweet potato waffle fries were all clumped together, as if they had been suffering from late-stage freezer burn. The rest of the food was just ok. To be fair, my wife enjoyed her koa bowl, so that's one redemption. But a tiki bar that serves food should at least be able to put together a decent hamburger. read more

My family and I went here for their happy hour a few weeks ago. It was not good! We ordered the Nachos $10, Laka Tacos with pork $9, and a very expensive kids meal of cold and dried up Kraft Mac and Cheese for $9! For happy hour prices it's expensive! The nachos were so small and unimpressive with not much cheese that we ended up giving back to our server and said no thanks. The Tacos were also very small and not delicious either unfortunately, but I was so hungry that I kept them. My husband did not eat any of it, and my son who is only 8 ate his after we asked the server to microwave it so it could be hot.
